Easter is getting ripped off
Easter is right around the corner—are you excited? Most of the world is not. Sometimes it feels like Easter gets “ripped off” as a holiday every year.
As Christians, we know that Easter is a very big deal—is it the biggest holiday in the Christian church? After all, the Bible says, “If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith” and “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins” (1 Corinthians 15:14-17). Without Easter, church services and sermons are useless. Without Easter, your faith is pointless, and you are on your own to solve that very big problem called “sin.” Without Easter, there’s no reason for Lakeside to exist. Is Easter the biggest holiday of the Christian church? Yes. We understand that it’s not the biggest holiday of the secular world. Halloween is bigger. Santa Claus is the biggest.
Valentine’s Day and the 4th of July fireworks are bigger. Easter is an afterthought in our “there-is-no-God” culture, a second-rate holiday that has been reduced to pastel-colored candy, giant bunny costumes, and little kids running around parks looking for plastic eggs. There are no nostalgic movies to watch connected to Easter, and no Easter songs are playing on the radio leading up to the holiday.
Don’t let the world’s ho-hum approach to Easter affect you! “He has risen, just as he said!” (Matthew 18:6) “Because

he lives, you also will live” (John 14:19)—even after you die! Because he lives, everything you believe is true. Every struggle you endure as a Christian is really worth it. Every sin you’ve ever committed is really forgiven.
There actually is a heaven and you’ll be there soon. God loves you! What makes all of this true? Jesus rose from the dead.
Look forward to Easter. Celebrate it! Christ is risen. He is risen indeed.
