They like their jobs

Do you like your job? Not everybody does. I was at a car dealership this past month, and I was wondering if the person working there liked his job. It seemed to me that he didn’t. His demeanor, his manner of speaking—there was something about him that made me wonder: “Does he really want to be here?” Maybe he was just having a bad day. This summer, I’ve noticed that Lakeside teachers “like their jobs.” They like to be here—even though it is summer vacation! Many of them are modifying their teaching spaces, organizing things, getting materials ready for next school year—and they like what they are doing! And then there are teachers who are working with students as coaches, as advisors, as directors—and you can see that they are truly enjoying the experience.
Why? What makes the teachers like what they do? There are probably many reasons, but here is one: they find joy in fulfilling the mission of the school. Lakeside exists to “educate, encourage, and equip students for life and for eternity.” Our teachers know that they are part of something bigger, something greater: “I’m getting my classroom ready to encourage kids with the Word of God.” “The more prepared I am, the better I will be for those students who need that extra help.” To be a part of a ministry where the ultimate goal is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with every student—this is motivation for a teacher to “go to work” every day. Every teenager needs to hear that although they are sinful, God in his grace and mercy has taken their sins away! And not only that. Every teenager also needs to hear that this same gracious God is changing them more and more into a new person who is learning how to serve and glorify God. The teachers are the ones who convey this good news. They are “on a mission,” and that mission is to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them… and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19 This mission is why teachers at Lakeside like what they do, even to the point of coming to campus, even during the summer. May God bless them as they prepare for the school year ahead.

lakeside good news E notes We’re going to need more than one month to introduce all the new faces on campus this coming school year. In no particular order, welcome to:
Mrs.Tanya Tomfohrde Math Dept. (Algebra & Geometry) Cross Country assistant coach “I’m most excited to get back into full-time teaching with my own classroom, since I have been away from it for the past four years in order to spend more time with my family,” she says.
“I have heard great things about how Lakeside is growing and that it has a great culture and reputation. I am excited about being a part of that and having the opportunity to share the message of Jesus’ love with each and every one of the students.” Leckwee enjoys hunting, boating, and fishing. He and his wife, Christin, have six daughters: Madison (Nathan) Boulden, Clara, Patricia, Aurora, Faith, and Bethel. Faith will be a freshman at LL this year. The family has just moved to Watertown and are members at St. Luke, where Christin has accepted a call to be Worship Coordinator.
Ms. Katelyn Edwards English Dept. (English 9, World Lit, Responses to Lit, College Prep English) Yearbook advisor, Dance team asst. Miss Edwards graduated from Martin Luther College in May and assigned to us for English, where she says she is excited to discuss novels in depth.
Mrs. Tomfohrde (Tom-four’-dee) went to Nebraska Lutheran High School and Martin Luther College. She recently completed a master’s degree in mathematics education from the University of Nebraska– Kearney. She and her husband, Matt, an electrician, have three children: Kaylee (11), Aaron (9), and Nathan (6). They love to go to the beach and travel out west. The family are members at St. Paul, Lake Mills and will live in town.
Mr. Dennis Leckwee Religion Dept. (Freshman OT) JV2 Football, Boys Golf asst. Mr. Leckwee, a 1993 Forever Warrior, has served in South Dakota and multiple locations in Wisconsin. In 2001, he was part of starting Grace Lutheran School in Kenai, Alaska and the family lived there for eight years.
The oldest of nine children, she was homeschooled through eighth grade and then attended West Lutheran High School, Plymouth, Minn. Summer with the Warriors
? The A Cappella choir sang the National Anthem to open the Brewers vs Cardinals game on June 22. ? Three students represented the Lakeside FFA chapter at the 93rd State FFA convention June 14-15 at Alliant Energy Center, Madison, including Elizabeth Gunst [St. John, Juneau], Allen Lester and Paige Lester [St. John, Waterloo].
? Our Warrior Times Weekly won two awards this past year. The editorial team took first place in Senior High Schools with Enrollment Under 500 and Most Outstanding High School Weekly Newspaper for 2021-2022. ? We welcomed hundreds of elementary & middle school students to our Warrior camps this summer. We offered camps for basketball, volleyball, wrestling, football, distance running, soccer, and STEM.
? Over 60 Warriors attended the WELS International Youth Rally in Tennessee to grow closer to Jesus and each other. Among them were faculty chaperones, including, L–R, Hannah Uher [Peace, Sun Prairie], Jenny Krauklis, Steve Lauber [both St. Paul, Lake Mills] and Dustin Yahnke [Trinity, Watertown].
? Warriors filled Jefferson County Fair July 13-17 either with FFA or through their 4-H groups to show animals. We love seeing their hard work and commitment: Jenna Degner (St. Mark, Watertown), Ethan Hoyt, Adria Saxby, Tyler Schuld (St. Paul, Lake Mills), Kendall Lemke (Immanuel, Farmington), Paige Lester, Mara Skalitzky (St. John, Waterloo), Nina and Elana Litherland (Zion, Columbus), Tessa Schmocker, Hunter Schwab, Vivian Stahl (St. Paul, Fort), Nora Statz (St. Peter, Helenville), Emma and Molly Wiedenfeld (St. John, Newville), and Ava Wilson (Eastside, Madison). Forever Warriors also participated by showing, mentoring, or working at the fairgrounds: Caitlin Condon 19’, Jordyn Jaeger 21’, Ian Olszewski ‘19, Meghan ‘20 and Devin Splinter ‘19 and Emma Statz ‘20. ?
