The dictionary defines “ ” as “adhering firmly through fidelity.” However, based on the decline in society, family, and the church, faithfulness may well be something from the past. Although Christians know and practice faithfulness, we sometimes make our own definitions of it. We replace “adhering,” “firmly,” and “fidelity” with “trying” and “as best as.” This twisted view of faithfulness is nothing new. Three millennia ago, David lamented, “Help, Lord, for no one is faithful anymore; those who are loyal have vanished from the human race” (Psalm 12:1).

God does not have a variable scale of faithfulness. Rather, it is essential to him. He declares, “My eyes will be on Principal Grasby the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; the one whose walk is blameless will minister to me” (Ps. 101:6). Jesus reinforces this saying, “Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown” (Rev. 2:10). What does faithfulness look like in our faith-life? Is it attending worship weekly? Is it bi-weekly attendance, occasionally taking the Lord’s Supper? Is it going to church just once annually? God does not play a numbers game, keeping score by what’s written in a pew register. At the same time, he does not leave it up to us either. Faithfulness to him is listening to and following his Word. He commands, “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy” (Exodus 20:8). He exhorts us to “not [give] up meeting together … but encouraging one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:25). Faithfulness is essential to God. If it is precious to us, then we will imitate the early Christians who “devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer” (Acts 2:42). How grateful we can be that in spite of our unfaithfulness, God is faithful. Paul reminds us of this with the words of a common saying among the early Christians: “If we are faithless, [God] remains faithful” (2 Timothy 2:13). God’s faithfulness to us is perhaps best seen in the sacrifice of his only and only Son for our sins. Even as he hung on the cross, our Savior comforts us unfaithful sinners saying, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34). What is faithfulness? It is continually directing our hearts toward God. It is our faith-inspired response to his undeserved love and mercy.
Lord, give us faithful hearts that seek you first and foremost in our words, thoughts, and actions. Amen.

At the May 14 Call Day for Martin Luther College, two graduates were assigned to us: Miss Katelyn Edwards, Hanover, Minn., will teach a variety of English classes. Miss Rebecca Johnson, Bear, Delaware, will be part of the Extended Learning Center staff. During Distracted Driving Awareness Month, thanks to community sponsors, sophomores participated in UNITE’s Arrive Alive Tour. Using a state-of-the-art simulator and virtual reality, students experienced the ramifications of driving distracted, drunk, or drugged without the real-life consequences. Three Warriors signed their ceremonial letters of intent to play D3 college golf next year. Will Popp [Our Redeemer, Madison] signed with Concordia University Wisconsin, Mequon, Kaylea Affeld [St. Mark, Watertown] with Wisconsin Lutheran College, Milwaukee, and Lauren Lostetter [St. Paul, Lake Mills] at North Park University, Chicago. Forever Warrior Will Neitzel (‘08) stopped by Matt Doering’s American Government classroom to share with our seniors—who held their own mock elections—his work as a Congressional Staffer for Bryan Steil.
Badger State reps selected for the boys convention, at UW-Eau Claire June 12-18, are Jack DePrey [Holy Cross, Madison] and Isaac Winters [St. Luke, Watertown]. The girls reps, at UW-Oshkosh June 19-24, are Rose Hissom [St. Matthew, Oconomowoc] and Elizabeth Kendall [Willerup, Cambridge].
After a 2-year absence, the annual Lutheran Elementary School Math Meet for grades 5-8 welcomed a record 300 mathletes back to campus. First place teams were given trophies and individual winners were awarded ribbons and a $100 tuition credit should they decide to attend Lakeside. Our stage rocked the house from Apr 29-May! More than 45 teens were part of School of Rock–The Musical, whether on stage or behind the scenes. In addition, several alum were involved, including director Kristina Meinel ‘06 [St. John, Jefferson].
The annual Art Show was held the same weekend as the musical when a dozen senior artists displayed their portfolios. We celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week May 2-6. From coffee giftcards to taco bar lunches, the Warrior family stepped up to thank faculty with acts of love. On May 6, we celebrated School Lunch Hero Day, acknowledging the hard work of serving approximately 50,000 meals to Warriors this year, adhering to strict federal nutrition guidelines, navigating student food allergies, adapting to supply chain issues—all with a smile, our school nutrition professionals are true heroes. Thanks, Vicki Sukow [Immanuel, Farmington] Sandy Schafer, Lisa Baker and Rose Goers [all St. Paul, Lake Mills]. National Honor Society teens held a car wash, raising over $1,200 to support the people of Ukraine through Christian Aid & Relief. Prom glowed with a “Hanging Lights” theme. 11th annual Grand Event looks up in Thankfulness
On April 9, more than 200 guests and 50 student and adult volunters joined us in person to celebrate and support our mission to educate, encourage, and equip teens for life and eternity. Generous alum donated items, attended in person, bid online, and volunteered to make the day so fabulous. We are thrilled to share YOU helped us raise more than $101,000!

On May 11, the last event with the original bleachers was held in the West Gym. The Academic Awards night honored scholarship recipients as well as students’ academic achievers. Sophomore and some juniors were inducted into the National Honor Society and the Top Ten from the class of 2022 were honored.
