“Whatever became of them?”

Everyone remembers people from their past—classmates, neighbors, friends, even relatives. At some point, they were separated and eventually lost contact. Later, we may wonder, “Whatever became of them?” By nature, all humans are sinful. There isn’t a time in which we live without sin and its effects in this life. David asserts, “Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me” (Psalm 51:5). Paul echoes, “There is no one righteous, not even one” (Romans 3:10). Indeed, since the fall into sin, no human knows righteousness or holiness. But God sees it differently. He does not see us for who we are. Rather, he sees us for who we have become by faith in his Son. Paul writes, “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21). Instead of seeing us as we are, God sees what we became through the perfect work of Christ. Through faith in him, we become pure and blameless. God sees us as holy because of what Jesus became for us. Many writers have explained Jesus’ substitutionary work for sinners. Perhaps none so effectively states it as Luther who wrote, “Learn to know Christ and him crucified. Learn to sing to him, and say, ‘Lord Jesus, you are my righteousness, I am your sin. You have taken upon yourself what is mine and given me what is yours. You have become what you were not so that I might become what I was not.’” Lakeside’s biennial theme is Become. In a single word, we hope to remind our students and families, our faculty and staff, board members, and those in our federation that we have become righteous through Christ alone. By God’s grace, we have “become the righteousness of God.” This is far better than any earthly gift or achievement. It creates in us godly self-worth and value. It encourages and moves us to glorify Christ through whom we have become righteous. “Whatever became of them?” By God’s grace, we know and believe that all believers have become the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus.

Lakeside Lutheran has immediate openings for: Varsity Dance Coach - Position runs 8/1/21–3/1/22 (time: 3x/wk practice 3:30–5:30 plus scheduled events)
Boys Golf Coach - Position runs 3/21–6/4, 2022 (time: daily practice 3:30–6 plus scheduled matches)

summer @ llhs news E notes: zz Warrior Marching Band traveled to St. Louis July 1-4 and placed 2nd place overall with an Outstanding Marching Performance caption award at America’s Birthday Parade in St. Louis. Next summer they’ll be headed to the Calgary Stampede in Alberta, Canada! zz Warriors filled Jefferson County Fair July 7-11 either with FFA or through their 4-H groups to show animals, including first-timers at Jefferson Maria Meier (St. Luke, Watertown) and Nina Litherland (Zion, Columbus). More congrats to Nina in vying for the Master Showman award by showing 6 species, horses, pigs, goats, sheep, beef and dairy. Other LL participants were Jenna and Ethan Degner (St. Mark, Watertown), Kendall Lemke (Immanuel, Farmington), Ian Olszewski (St. John, Jefferson), Devin Splinter (St. Matthew, Oconomowoc), Emma and Nora Statz (St. Peter, Helenville), Emma Wiedenfeld (St. John, Newville). zz Ten Warrior track & field team members—the boys 4x800 relay & 5 individual events—earned a trip to the State meet. Senior Christian Schmidt (St. Luke, Watertown) took second place in the D2 100m hurdles! The relay team were Nate Krenke (St. John, Jefferson), Tyler Gresens (Peace, Sun Prairie), Mark Garcia (Bethany, Fort), Karsten Grundahl (Blackhawk Church, Madison), and (alt) Cam Weiland (Zion, Columbus). Jonah Heyerholm (Holy Cross, Madison) in Long Jump, Kyle Main (St. John, Juneau) in 200m dash, Mya Hemling (St. Stephen, Beaver Dam) in 400m Dash, and Paige Krahn (Eastside, Madison) in the 1600m run rounded out the state crew. Congrats! zz Brothers Rudy and Hank Goessling (St. Paul, Fort) represented the Warrior FFA chapter as they manned the Wisconsin Corn Growers booth during the career show at the State FFA Convention in Madison. zz Five Lady Warriors were awarded softball all-conference honors, with Nora Statz (St. Peter, Helenville) and Olyvia Uecker (St. Luke, Watertown) on 1st team; Kylee Gnabasik (St. John, Jefferson) and Jenna Shadoski (St. Matthew, Janesville) on 2nd team, and freshman pitcher Kieghtan Rank (Eastside, Madison) receiving honorable mention. zz Warrior Baseball went to the regional final again this year. Nine earned all-conference honors, including 1st team Riley Schmidt (Peace, Janesville); 2nd team Gabe Uttech (Zion, Columbus), Ian Olszewski (St. John, Jefferson), Eli Buchta (St. Paul, Ixonia), Nathan Chesterman (Peace, Sun Prairie), and Nate Yaroch (Zion, Columbus); and honorable mention to Ben Krueger (St. Mark, Watertown), Tyler Marty (St. Paul, Fort) and Brock Schneider (St. Paul, Lake Mills). zz Warrior girls soccer saw Mia Murray (St. Andrew, Middleton) and Kendra Wilson (Eastside, Madison) receive all-conference 2nd team honors, and Lillian Runke (Peace, Sun Prairie), Lily Schuetz (St. Paul, LMills) and Ella Ristow (St. Luke, Watertown) honorable mention. zz From Texas to Alaska, Salt Lake to New Orleans, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Long Valley, New Jersey, Operation GO saw a total of 16 trips and more than 80 Warriors and 14 different adult chaperones spend every single summer day June 1–August 8 somewhere working for Jesus and his Kingdom. We look forward to the presentations and stories we’ll hear over the year from these Witnessing Warriors! July was host to running and golf camp, youth football and volleyball as well as a STEM Camp. How wonderful to be reminded that it’s all to God’s glory, even in sports and science!
Bus driver Jim Redfield (St. Luke, Watertown) retired this spring and left us a note that includes our exact thoughts about HIS faithful service to the Warrior family: “I have been truly blessed by this experience and want to say thank you...” Thank YOU, Mr. Redfield -may your testimony about the pleasures of bus driving for our teens motivate your replacement to come forward!
