This quote is from John MacArthur’s 1994 book titled Reckless Faith: When the Church Loses Its Will to Discern. In it, he calls to task segments of the Christian Church for conforming to a society with no absolutes and tolerating faith in any form. In short, he asserts that some within the visible Church embrace false doctrine so often that they can no longer distinguish between truth and falsehood. To know the truth, one must “master the look of the real thing.” Shortly before his crucifixion, our Savior declared, “I am the good shepherd” (John 10:11). In his discourse, Jesus warned of the “stranger” (v. 5), “thieves and robbers” (v. 8), the “hired hand,” and the “wolf ” (v. 12). False teachers and their teachings constantly work to undermine the Church and cause the downfall of God’s people. How do we avoid this evil? The answer is to “know his voice” (v. 4). Jesus’ figure of speech points to the gospel. Those who “know his voice” know the gospel because it is the foundation of their lives. They “know his voice” because they learn the Word of God, study it, build their lives on it, and live it every day. They “know his voice” so well that they freely share the Word of God with others who need the truth. You don’t get to know the real thing by studying counterfeits. You know the real thing when you “master the look of [it].” In the same way, you know the truth by learning the Word of God, believing it, and heeding the voice of the Good Shepherd.
Lord, give us discerning hearts to hear and believe the truth - the voice of our Good Shepherd. Help us also to share the truth. Amen.

lakeside good news E notes cc In All-Conference selections for boys basketball, soph Levi Birkholz (Trinity, Watertown) was unanimously awarded 1st team honors. He also received honorable mention for D3 All State. Seniors Gabe Uttech (Zion, Columbus) and Ian Olszewski (St. John, Jefferson) made 2nd team all-conference. Ian was also selected “UW Credit Union Student Athlete of the Week” in Feb. Senior John O’Donnell (Shepherd’s Fold, Madison) and soph Trey Lauber (St. Paul, Lake Mills) received honorable mention. cc Warrior girls basketball finished the season at 9-11. In All-Conference team selections, junior Lily Schuetz (St. Paul, Lake Mills) was awarded 1st team honors. Sophomore Jenna Shadoski (St. Matthew, Janesville) 2nd team, and senior Mia Murray (St. Andrew, Middleton) earned honorable mention. cc National FFA Week Feb. 22-26 was like a mini Winter Carnival on campus. From fun morning games where teens could win candy bar prizes to a week of dress up themes to a fundraiser that ended with six faculty members performing the chicken dance, it was a great week to break up the winter blahs. cc 40 girls in K-8 joined SWELL (Society of Women Engineers at Lakeside Lutheran) in a girls-only STEM Workshop. The young scientists explored making Oobleck (cornstarch slime), ocean in a cup, a board spinner, CD Bubbles, STEM cookies and driving Spherobots. cc The Lady Warrior golf team heard in Feb. that they earned the D2 Bronze in 2020 Girls’ Golf Team Academic All-State awards. Congrats to Maya & Ava Heckmann (St.
Andrew, Middleton), Lauren Lostetter (St. Paul, LMills), Kaylea Affeld (St. Mark, Watertown) and Ella Butzine (Holy Cross, Madison) cc Lydia Buxa (Immanuel, Farmington) has been named a Finalist in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program. Based on her Finalist standing, she has received a full scholarship to Liberty University, Lynchburg, Va., where she will pursue a degree in nursing. cc Both JV & Varsity Warrior mathletes took first place at the Spring Capitol Conference meet. Sophomore Isaac Winters (St. Luke, Watertown) earned a perfect score on JV. cc Pastor Helwig (St. Paul, LMills) and Mrs. Uher (Peace, Sun Prairie) traveled to New Ulm with 30 juniors and seniors considering Martin Luther College to study for the public ministry. The students heard from some Forever Warriors, professors, and took a tour of the city. cc FFA held its 7th annual banquet March 7 with 105 guests who heard from speakers, celebrated chapter and member accomplishments and welcomed new student officers for next year. Donors and bidders combined to raise more than $5,300 from 43 live auction items, sold by Mike Stade (St. Peter, Helenville), who’s been our auctioneer every year.

Thanks to producers and onair talent Brock Schneider (St. Paul, Lake Mills) and Jacob Griedl (Bethany, Fort).
cc A young Warrior robotics team (l-r) soph programmer Isaac Winters, soph builder Ethan Gulczynski (Peace, Sun Prairie), freshmen driver Cooper Jensen and builder Daniel Ertman (both Bethany, Fort) designed their robot to slam dunk balls in baskets in the competitively cutthroat tic-tac-toe game tournament framework. After their skills test on Feb. 27 qualified them, they joined 24 teams from across Wisconsin at the state VEX tournament in Appleton March 13, where they became an announcer favorite who dubbed theirs the “Dunkbot” and earned a respectable 17th place among much more experienced teams. We’ll keep an eye out for next year! cc In March, we wrapped up the sixth module of resiliency training for the entire student body. Partnering with Christian Family Solutions, students studied the Cornerstone curriculum which addressed resilience, crisis survival, reality acceptance, mindfulness, emotion control, and thought distortion. After an introductory all-school assembly at the start of each session day, three counselors then met with students during religion class. The small groups allowed presenters to equip teens with specific strategies to develop resilience and decrease stress and anxiety.
