

Weoften think that broken is bad. After all, broken dreams, broken bones, broken promises all leave us heartbroken. Thanks to Jesus, Lakeside is broken—and blessed! We began the school year blessed with 538 students, breaking the previous record of 523 in 2005. On April 8, we broke ground for Free to Act: Phase II building project, a cafeteria expansion/remodel and a front entry/office remodel that will accommodate another expected record-breaking student body. We continue to pray that this project will finish debt-free (without breaking the bank, you might say!). Thanks to God, we currently have over $2.75M raised of $3.5M needed (see more on page 9).
More recent blessings include ... Faithful faculty. Two long-time servants are retiring: Mark Toepel and Paul Bauer have served a combined 72 years at Lakeside. Jeff Meske (11 years with us), Hannah Uher (5 years) and Katie Edwards (2 years), are moving on to other opportunities. We have been blessed to have all of them serve so faithfully in their time with us, and we’ve been blessed with a full staff for fall.
Faithful students: The class of 2024 were blessed in the classroom and in cocurriculars. Each in the Academic Top 10 had a GPA above 4.0 (having taken 31 APA classes). Eleven more in a class of 118 had 3.9 GPAs. Our Warriors won titles at conference math meets, boys AND girls cross country meets, volleyball, and forensics (14th consecutive!). Boys cross country and boys track & field BOTH took D2 STATE titles, and boys basketball was the D3 state runner-up. We won the WIAA sportsmanship award at the state tournament, a reflection of all that is Lakeside— including coaches, players and office, the student section and all Warrior fans.
Above all other blessings, however, is this broken collection of families who know we live in a broken world, but who get to share every day—in school and everywhere else we go— how Jesus’ brokenness gives us unbreakable blessings.

Your LLHS is indeed “Simply Blessed,” the theme of this past spring’s Grand Event #13 on April 13, 2024 that celebrated all of God’s blessings on the entire Warrior family.

We are thrilled to share that we were gifted over $160K from sponsors, donors and bidders. This year’s for our mission as well as “fund-a need”s that included volleyball net and standards system, a piano microphone (which we had in place for Commencement Concert, and wow! did it make a difference in amplification level and quality), as well as new board games for our Board Game Club and our annual support of the Operation Go mission trips. Our paddle raise for building improvement (including the Phase 2 addition, see p. 9) raised more than $20K that was then matched by an anonymous donor. These opportunities are blessed beyond measure because of your heart for Lakeside and Christian education!

Lakeside has given me many opportunities to show my God-given talents, whether on the golf course or a robotics field.
Being able to play varsity golf all four years was a blessing, it allowed me to meet new people and grow as a person. Another thing that’s great about Lakeside is the opportunities outside of sports, such as for me, robotics. My freshman year I got cut from the basketball team and I was a little bummed about it, but then my friend told me about robotics and I was hooked. Being able to build and code these complicated machines was right up my alley, and allowed me to grow in knowledge about technology.
If it wasn’t for Lakeside having this path available for me, the robotics team and I wouldn’t have gone to state for four years in a row! My coaches in both of these programs inspired me to be an educator so I can have the opportunity to guide kids just like they guided me.
Cooper plans to attend Martin Luther College in the fall to study Elementary Education. He and his family are members at Bethany, Fort Atkinson.
Captions: In addition to golf and robotics, Cooper was part of the A Cappella Choir his senior year. Along with 45+ other juniors and seniors, he worshiped at more than 15 area congregations through out the year, adding his voice in praise to the Savior. At right, he is pictured with Ted Turnquist (‘85) who awarded the Morgan Turnquist Memorial Warrior Scholarship to Cooper for demonstrating a Warrior spirit to persevere through personal trials.
Members of the Rho Fellowship, with the Lord’s guidance, have provided multiple gifts totaling less than $1,000 within the last year to Lakeside Lutheran High School. The Greek letters Rho and Chi form the symbol for Christ. This symbol, displayed in the center of our school seal, serves as a reminder that Christ is the center of our faith at Lakeside. Through this faith we return our blessings to continue His work.

Over my time here at Lakeside, I have been blessed with countless opportunities to let my Light shine and grow my faith through organizations I took part in. Teens for Christ reinforced compassion, responsibility, and seeing people through God’s eyes. The National Honor Society and Student Council taught me commitment and time management. Varsity soccer showed me the value of hard work, dedication, and friendship. All these life skills I have learned, strengthened, and enhanced—through Lakeside—are priceless.
The teachers here are more than just teachers, they are family. My list of people here at Lakeside who have touched and changed my life is truly remarkable. Mrs. Lori Tetzlaff in particular has made the biggest impact on me. Over the years, she has gotten me through my highest of highs and lowest of lows. She has shown me love and compassion. She has provided a safe and comforting space to talk about the tough and amazing moments in life. I also had the opportunity to go on an Operation Go mission trip to New Jersey with her as my chaperone. That week spent with fellow classmates, Mrs. T, and the congregation who hosted us was one of the best experiences I have been a part of at Lakeside. Mrs. T is just one of the teachers here that strive every day to help students, to get to know them more than just inside the classroom, and to share the love of the Lord.
This fall, I plan to attend Martin Luther College for elementary education. I hope to embody the characteristics that I gained and learned here at Lakeside and implement them in my future classroom.

Your Lakeside Lutheran High School is blessed beyond measure, but a few stats can offer a glimpse of our Phase 2 progress. $2.871 million (82%) has been raised toward the $3.5M goal ($629K remaining). The contractor broke ground April 8, 2024.
After nine trucks and 82 yards of concrete, footings were complete for the footprint of the total 5,535 ft2 of addition (includes cafeteria, storage, front entrance and redesigned front office/reception space). The subsequent day of wall-building involved that again and more. No one has been able to keep totals of the number of trucks arriving with forms, backfill and gravel!
Demolition has certainly changed the front entry and facade of the building, as well as the inside the main entrance. The enhanced entry will clarify our main doors for visitors, as well as give a much needed face lift and useful space redesign to the original restrooms and front office area.
The floor tile has been removed and the cement floor ground smooth in the cafeteria. While the new caf space will extend south, the existing cafeteria will be remodeled and ready for students when school starts in August. The 2,600 ft2 caf addition is to be complete before the end of the calendar year.

Located in the lobby of the east school entrance, our Leaves of Legacy tree is a symbol of deep roots bearing much fruit for the future, a recognition of support for quality Christ-centered education. Individual leaves are engraved with individual and family names and shine like the light these donors have provided for the future of our ministry here at Lakeside Lutheran.
