New Faces!
Newfaces are everywhere here at Lakeside! We have 152 new freshmen faces. Ten new faculty and staff faces. Two familiar faces with new roles—Pastor Don Schultz and Mr. John Dorn as Principal and Assistant Principal. I am one of those new faces too.

Chances are likely you are one of the “new-to-me” faces I’ve met since beginning my role as LLHS Development Director this past July. I met 30 alumni at Forever Warrior Night at a Madison Mallards baseball game. Mid-August we kicked off Warrior football with our annual Appreciation Night with 180 faces joining us. Next was Homecoming and our Alum Zone event, when we welcomed 235 Forever Warrior family faces. In October, a record 240 grandparents of freshman and juniors visited campus for Fall Grandparents Day. Then, 90 veterans and guests graced our Veterans Day Observance. If I haven’t met you yet, I look forward to seeing you at one of our development office events—we host about one per month during the school year (see p. 11 for a calendar).
There are so many new faces for me, I sometimes struggle to keep track. That’s why it’s amazing to me that our God has known not just every face throughout time, but “the very hairs of your head are all numbered” (Matthew 10:30). He knows everything about us, and loves us still. He loves our faces so much that he sent his only Son as a sacrifice so we could spend eternity in heaven with him. What an amazing God!
Thank you for participating, with smiling faces and giving hearts, in our mission. You make it possible for Lakeside to educate, encourage, and equip our students for life and for eternity—when we will all see Jesus face to face.

Fall GPD
In October, we enjoyed another wonderful morning with the most wonderful people— our Warrior grandparents! For more than 15 years, grandparents have been invited to campus for breakfast, chapel, and classes on one of two “Grandparents Day” in what’s been a great way to connect grandparents to where their favorite teens spend hours and hours each day.

This year was another new way to celebrate these relationships—with ever-increasing enrollment and interest in what we fondly call “GPD,” this fall’s event saw use of the east gym and more communal time in order to accommodate the more than 240 grandparents who showed up for hugs, breakfast, conversation, laughs, and chapel with their freshmen & juniors. If you were one of them, thanks for joining us!

Chi “ ”
Dennis Leckwee
In this my first year, I have been blessed with the opportunity to teach the Old Testament to the freshman class. It has been an absolute blast getting to know such great kids, watching them grow in their faith and maturing as young men and women. Quite frankly, what I enjoy just as much as teaching is being in the hallway during passing times and interacting with students as they walk by with their smiling faces.
I am totally impressed by the many opportunities we offer for our students to grow through a variety of clubs, Teens for Christ, FFA, Operation Go, and the Cultural Awareness Group. They let their light shine as they build on the passions they have and display it for others to see and learn. There are multiple activities and electives help expose them to new experiences and identify skills God has given them, including the Lakeside Loop, forensics, woods, metals, foods.
What is so impressive is to see how teachers go the extra mile to support teens on this journey. It is truly a “family feel” as everyone works together to help them be successful through these important years, with the hope it will continue through their lives.
Dennis and his family still at home are members at St. Luke, Watertown, where his wife, Christin, serves as Music and Worship Coordinator. In addition to his duties in the Religion department, Dennis coaches JV2 Football, assists with Boys Golf and is co-advisor for the new student-run Cultural Awareness group. A 1993 Forever Warrior, he has served in South Dakota and multiple locations in Wisconsin. In 2001, he was part of starting Grace Lutheran School in Kenai, Alaska and the family lived there for eight years.

Left: Dennis joins the family in a banner year of new faces or familiar faces in new roles. We introduced eight new faculty faces in the recent edition of the LL Link. See it online at issuu.com/llhs/docs/lllink22
Right: The Leckwees have six daughters, Madison (Nathan) Boulden, Clara, Patricia, Aurora, Faith, and Bethel, who range in ages from recently married college grad to upper grade elementary student.

Colossians 2:2
My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united
Shelly Coron
Growing up on a dairy farm, I knew the value of hard work and the dedication it takes to succeed personally, academically, and spiritually. As a teenager, I wanted to grow in my faith and use the abilities God gave me. My parents let me choose where I wanted to go to high school, and I am so blessed to have chosen Lakeside.

High school was unforgettable. I was involved in marching band trips during the summer, sports, clubs, A Cappella and Swing Choir, Jazz Band—and more. While I was at a wonderful school with multiple opportunities, most importantly, I appreciated worshipping the LORD with my friends. It was truly a blessing to be around fellow Christian students and teachers, and being on the same page about our faith helped us create a stronger faith.
Fast forward to the present. I have coached JV volleyball at Lakeside for 12 years and am now the Extended Learning Center (ELC) Director. My previous career experience helped me move into a teaching/guidance role at Lakeside. I am thankful to be back in a Christian atmosphere where I can let my light shine daily and (hopefully) leave a positive influence on the students!
Staff and teachers at Lakeside go above and beyond their calls to work with students, pushing them to succeed. They are always making the next best effort because of their love for the LORD. God has truly blessed this school!
A 2004 LLHS graduate, Shelly is now, in addition to her ELC and volleyball roles, advisor for the student service group, Teens for Christ. Shelly and her family, including husband Steve, stepdaughter Olivia, and baby girl Coron (expected delivery date of Dec. 14!) are members at St. John in Juneau, her childhood church.

At left: Shelly took over the directorship of the LL Extended Learning Center when Mrs. Ruth Hirschfeld retired spring 2022. Center: The Coron family at their new home in Watertown in 2020. Right: Volleyball is a passion of hers, and Shelly has thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the coaching staff for the perenially successful Warrior program, including the WIAA D2 state champion 2017 team.

Kentro Fellowship

Members of the Kentro Fellowship have offered a gift or returned a commitment card to Lakeside Lutheran High School of $1,000 or more for the year. The Greek word, Kentro, meaning center, leads us to reflect on Christ as the center of our lives. Through Him we receive these blessings and are encouraged to offer them up to His glory.

As a thank you for these blessings you have shared, we offer you a subscription to The Legacy and invite you to join us at several fellowship events in your honor.
To remain a member of the Kentro Fellowship we encourage you to renew your gift annually through the enclosed commitment envelope.
