Year in review... blessings beyond measure!

B

lessings abound! As we celebrate and reflect upon another year of Lakeside, another class of graduates, another year of God’s story for us, it is full of gratitude and thankfulness.

How can we not be filled with appreciation, hope, and encouragement?

Our year in review begins in August when Lakeside began its 64th year welcoming over 450 students, 5 new teachers, and 70 other faculty and staff. We saw several debt-free improvements on campus—a study hall redo and relocation, a library transformed into the media center, and a boys’ locker room renovation. Our student-athletes marked many accolades in all seasons. Band and Choir members traveled near and far to highlight, compete, and display their talents. Student Council, Teens for Christ and Operation Go showcased their servant hearts (near and far) through mission trips, blood and school supply drives, New Friends, bake sales, food collections, and a car wash. Forensics, FFA, and Math and Robotics Teams presented or competed, and Theater entertained. The list goes on ... what a joy to be serving and glorifying the Lord in so many ways.

We offer prayers of thanksgiving and celebration for three long-time faculty, Mr. James Grasby, Mr. James Buege, and Mrs. Ruth Hirschfeld, retiring at the end of this school year. Their laughter and bright spirits will be greatly missed. We also pray for the 2022 graduates. May they be brave in the world, may their faith continue to grow, and may they always keep Jesus in their hearts.

Year after year. For the generations before and the generations yet to come, Lakeside’s story is an amazing one. May the important teen ministry continue to be meaningful, inspiring, and appreciated.

Another milestone in sight ...

Summer 2022 will see another incredible milestone at Twice is Nice Resale

June 2022 is likely to be the month that store sales surpass $10 million!

We were rightfully amazed at sales in 1994, our first full year, of $56,676, but ... by 2005, in 11 years, store volunteers had gifted LLHS more than $1 million ... by 2015, 10 years later, that number was more than $4 million ... by 2021, only 6 years later, gifts were over $6.25 million. See the trend?

Sales are now regularly over $5,000 on a typical Saturday. LLHS has always received at least 66¢ of each dollar in sales, and the store remains 100% volunteer-run. With 30 departments and thousands of donations being turned over each week, we need your time and energy to continue this success!

A volunteer or team of volunteers is still needed in the following areas: • • • •

Fall/Halloween items or costumes (sorting, pricing, packing) Christmas (sorting, pricing wall hangings, table tops, stockings, hats) Coats (sorting, pricing) Seasonal Stuffed Animals, and more!

Fellowship

Members of the Chi Fellowship, through the fruits of the Holy Spirit, have provided a single gift of less than $1,000 during the last year to Lakeside Lutheran High School. With the Greek letter Chi so evident in our churches and schools, your association with this fellowship is a reminder of God’s love, and every gift is significant to Lakeside.

Reflections from the Class of 2022 Morgan Mlsna Lakeside provides many opportunities to its students. It offers an array of advanced classes in a variety of subjects, so that those who choose to pursue certain interests are able to do so.

I particularly enjoyed my classes with Mr. Kuehl. They caused me to interpret and view literature in a whole new way. I also really enjoyed my Anatomy class with Mr. Dorn, where I was able to learn about the amazing complexity of the human body. It has really been a great demonstration of the miracle of God’s creation.

I am excited to learn more about the gift that is God’s creation of our bodies through my study of biology on the pre-med track at Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee.

Thanks to staff members such as Mr. Rosenau, Mr. Hackbarth, Mr. Matthies, Mr. Kuehl, Mr. Doering, and Mrs. Krauklis, I feel prepared both academically and spiritually to handle the next stage of my life.

Morgan and her family are members at St. Paul, Lake Mills. During her Lakeside years, she participated in basketball, volleyball, cross country and track.

Additionally, she’s been active with Teens for Christ and served as Editorin-Chief of the school newspaper, the Warrior Times Weekly, this past school year. She also helped with yearbook and was treasurer in the LL chapter of National Honor Society.

At right, Morgan was a member of the senior prom court this spring (top) and her OpGo mission trip to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, last summer allowed her to use her God-given abilities to spread God’s Word.

Rho

Fellowship

Members of the Rho Fellowship, with the Lord’s guidance, have provided multiple gifts totaling less than $1,000 within the last year to Lakeside Lutheran High School. The Greek letters Rho and Chi form the symbol for Christ. This symbol, displayed in the center of our school seal, serves as a reminder that Christ is the center of our faith at Lakeside. Through this faith we return our blessings to continue His work.

Reflections from the Class of 2022 Austin Schwab Lakeside has given me many different opportunities, choices, and challenges—opportunities to grow, choices to show that I am growing up, and challenges which push me to better myself and my friends.

Lakeside showed me how growing up and presenting myself in the Christian faith can be great for making friends and connecting with others. Lakeside offers students multiple and varied extracurricular activities, whether athletics, fine arts or academic possibilities. I recommend trying at least one thing in order to meet new people and find what interests you the most.

I was always participating in math meets because I love math, and the teachers here have only fed the flame of that love. So much so, that in the fall I will be attending Martin Luther College to become a math teacher. Math is not for everyone, which is completely understandable; but no matter what you like, you will find teachers and classmates who agree with you and share the same interests. I have loved my friends, my teachers, and my experience at Lakeside.

Austin and his family are members at St. Paul in Fort Atkinson. In his years at LLHS, he was on golf team and played or managed football all four years; he was also in bowling club since its charter year in 2019. In addition to math meets, he was involved in forensics, Academic Bowl and National Honor Society. Austin, a class of 2022 Academic Top Ten, ranked third in his graduating class.

Leftside: Whether singing with A Cappella or entertaining a concert crowd at Commencement, Austin “enjoys using his voice to encourage others.” Center, he and other math team members celebrate another Capitol Conference title. Varsity placed first in each of the six math meets they competed in this year; Austin was at every one. At right, he helped raise funds this spring for new weight room equipment with his guest interactions (& impressive vertical jump) at the Grand Event.

Kentro

Fellowship

Members of the Kentro Fellowship have offered a gift or returned a commitment card to Lakeside Lutheran High School of $1,000 or more for the year. The Greek word, Kentro, meaning center, leads us to reflect on Christ as the center of our lives. Through Him we receive these blessings and are encouraged to offer them up to His glory.

Located in the lobby of the east school entrance, our Leaves of Legacy tree is a symbol of deep roots bearing much fruit for the future, a recognition of support for quality Christ-centered education.

Individual leaves are engraved with individual and family names and shine like the light these donors have provided for the future of our ministry here at Lakeside Lutheran.

We give thanks to God for those who share our vision and have left a legacy to Lakeside, recently including a legacy gift from David Thiele, class of 1988. We celebrate his eternal life in heaven.
