Not goodbye... see you around!

At the end of December, Scott Gronholz transitioned from his role as our Development Director to a position in the grounds and maintenance department here at dear ol’ Lakeside. He also transitions into a much more familiar face to students as he drives both a morning and afternoon bus route!

“As I reflected on the growth and blessings of the Development Office over the past 16 years, it has truly been a blessing serving in this capacity,” he says.

The Lord has provided for LLHS in the past and “I pray the Lord will continue to provide Lakeside with enthusiastic students, talented and dedicated faculty, staff and friends who are committed to the mission of spreading the gospel.”

As far as the future of the Development Office is concerned, he knows it is in good hands—God’s hands. “It is with great thankfulness that I can visualize its future with a new face, continued passion and dedication to Lakeside’s ministry,” he shares.

Until that “new face” is found, our Executive Director, Kirk DeNoyer, will work with Bari Vredeveld, Development Assistant, (center) and Jess Meyer, Alumni and Events Coordinator, (right) to carry out all department activities.

Better sit down before you read this!

2021 Giving Tuesday sets an all-time giving record We are humbled and excited for such an outpouring of support in the days leading up to and following Tuesday, November 30, 2021. The focus of our #takeyourseat challenge resonated with 100+ supporters who gave more than $55,000 for our 4th annual Giving Tuesday.

The entire Warrior fam—staff, students, parents, alum and other faithful friends of the ministry— were invited to “take a seat” to help us reach the debt-free goal of auditorium seating and an aesthetic/acoustical makeover in the west gym this coming summer. Every donation brings us closer to a new and improved chapel and fine arts experience featuring 600+ cushioned bench seats in place of the current bleacher seating.

In addition to being an enhanced worship atmosphere for our students’ chapel experiences, the seats can be configured to allow for full-court sports event seating, or fully extended to more than halfway across the gymnasium floor, allowing for expanded comfort in musical and stage performances. Proceeds from Giving Tuesday 2021 are fully designated toward this $600,000 debt-free spending project. See llhs.org/freetoact/ to see more plans for debt-free spending.

Fellowship

Members of the Chi Fellowship, through the fruits of the Holy Spirit, have provided a single gift of less than $1,000 during the last year to Lakeside Lutheran High School. With the Greek letter Chi so evident in our churches and schools, your association with this fellowship is a reminder of God’s love, and every gift is significant to Lakeside.

Retiring after 19 “special” years James Grasby My first contact with Lakeside came during high school. I attended Luther in Onalaska. Our school orchestra came to Lake Mills twice for Heritagefest. In 1971, I stayed with the Kniefs in Watertown. Kimara (Knief) Winters is now Lakeside’s Publications Coordinator. The following year, the Quandts in Jefferson were my hosts. Ironically, I currently live almost directly across the street from that home.

Already as a teenager, I sensed that Lakeside is a special school.

Throughout my earlier ministry, I met different Lakeside teachers, mostly through music activities. To this day, I value friendships with John Nolte, Jim Wade, Jim Buege, and Dave Fenske. I thought about how I might seriously consider a call to Lakeside if I ever received one.

Little did I know how this would turn out.

Soon after receiving the principal call, I ran into Pastor Lloyd Huebner, Lakeside’s first principal. I did not tell him about the call; rather, a mutual friend at the same event did.

Pastor Huebner instantly lit up. I have never received such encouragement to accept a call.

But, coming from the man who started Lakeside and whose personality remains in the fabric of this school to this day, such encouragement was only natural.

Over the years, I’ve witnessed many changes at Lakeside. However, it goes back to what I stated earlier: Lakeside is a special school. The students, alumni, parents, teachers, staff, board members, and the people of the Federation love this school. They go above-andbeyond to support it. I leave after 19 years knowing that Lakeside is in good hands with the current board, school leadership, faculty, and staff. There is a clear future plan for ministry.

The changes and blessings of the past two decades reinforce how Lakeside is a special school. Our gracious God has shaped it into what it is today.

Indeed, Lakeside is a special school!

Rho

Fellowship

Members of the Rho Fellowship, with the Lord’s guidance, have provided multiple gifts totaling less than $1,000 within the last year to Lakeside Lutheran High School. The Greek letters Rho and Chi form the symbol for Christ. This symbol, displayed in the center of our school seal, serves as a reminder that Christ is the center of our faith at Lakeside. Through this faith we return our blessings to continue His work.

1 John 4:19

Retiring after 28 years at LLHS James Buege Mr. Buege is retiring from public ministry at the end of the 2021–22 school year.

Serving the students and parents at Lakeside, watching students grow academically and spiritually, and working side by side with fun, dedicated teachers and staff has been a joy. I have had the privilege to serve my Lord and this Federation for 28 years, 25 of them as director of the A Cappella Choir.

Taking A Cappella to the federated churches, having the opportunity to connect with church members, connecting with the elementary school children by having them join the A Cappella Choir in singing an anthem … these experiences were so faith-strengthening for me. I pray that these experiences were spiritually uplifting for the congregation members and for the choir members as well.

Will I miss it? Absolutely! I love working with these high school students, but it’s time to close the door on 48 years of the teaching ministry. Our Federation is blessed to have Steven Springborn, a very musically-gifted man, joining the faculty next fall. Please welcome him and be as supportive of him as you have been of me.

May our Lord Jesus continue to bless Lakeside and all of you.

Located in the lobby of the east school entrance, our Leaves of Legacy tree is a symbol of deep roots bearing much fruit for the future, a recognition of support for quality Christ-centered education.

Individual leaves are engraved with individual and family names and shine like the light these donors have provided for the future of our ministry here at Lakeside Lutheran.

We give thanks to God for those who share our vision and have left a legacy to Lakeside, recently including a legacy estate gift from David Burrow, Class of 1966. We celebrate his eternal life in heaven.
