Be strong and ...
WAIT
“Good things come to those who wait.” Like many sayings of promise, its origin is in Scripture. The psalmist declares, “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” (Psalm 27:14). We usually don’t like waiting. We view it as wasting time. Perhaps no time of year puts more pressure on us to speed up than Christmas with its celebrations and events. Still, the time leading to and following Christmas may well be the best time for us to learn to wait. To truly observe Christmas—God with us—slow down and wait. It will come soon enough. Christmas is a period of time, not a moment. If we learn to wait and avoid the rush of Christmas, then we can absorb and retain its blessing. The early Christian Church surrounded Christmas with Advent and Epiphany. Those seasons help believers experience the wait of Old Testament Israel for the Savior. But, the psalmist does not intend for us to wait passively. We are to “be strong and take heart” as we wait for the Lord. Jesus commands us, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation” (Matthew 26:41). We are to actively wait and pray about our spiritual condition. Paul writes, “But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently” (Romans 25:39). We are to actively wait for and be assured of our own salvation through faith in Christ and then respond with faith-inspired living to him. Each year, Christians can hardly wait for Christmas. It is exciting. But the time before and after Christmas is also meaningful. In them, we wait and reflect how God came to earth as our substitute. Waiting is worth it. After all, “good things come to those who wait.”

lakeside good news E notes ØØ During homeroom, Teens for Christ members write letters to shut-ins from our Federation churches—and some are responding. Agnes Froemming, a longtime Lakeside family member and former librarian, wrote back. When we shared this story on social media, members of the class of 1989 started a conversation on their Facebook page about Agnes, who turned 102 on Nov. 6.
ØØ Warriors celebrated “Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch Day” Students and staff were invited to enjoy an apple courtesy of our food service staff and sourced locally from Jelli’s Market. ØØ Hands on STEM learning! In Engineering Essentials students were challenged to design the strongest container to hold disaster survival materials with the most cost-efficiency. In Aerospace Engineering, students learned about the physics of flight and aerodynamics through a hands-on glider project and created airfoils to test against a new donated windtunnel.
ØØ Our ag-loving students joined in the Virtual National FFA Convention 2020 as they watched the live sessions being held in Texas. ØØ National Honor Society members spent a warm November afternoon cleaning up their adopted stretch of Hwy 18, which stretches from the Jefferson city limits to Hwy 89.
ØØ The Warrior Fall Band Concert was held on YouTube this year. The band performed six songs including patriotic pieces, the theme from “Remember the Titans,” and a preview of the summer 2021 parade fave, “Distorted.” See the link to the 15-min. event with the Veterans Day report. >>> ØØ Two Warriors are currently in youth apprenticeships: Ethan Degner (St. Mark, Watertown) at Ryan’s Auto and Haylee Meske (St. John, Jefferson) at Aztalan Engineering. With these opportunities, students work in manufacturing, automotive, and agriculture as part of their course load. ØØ This semester, Jared Witkowiak, a PE major at Martin Luther College, is student teaching under A.D. Todd Jahns (St. Paul, Lake Mills).
Substitute Food Service Workers Needed:
LLHS is seeking lunch aides available on a substitute basis during the school year. Must be able to lift 40 lbs and stand or walk on hard surfaces for most of the 9a–2p shift. Training provided. Pick up an application at the LL office or download at llhs.org/apps/ pages/jobs. We weren’t able to invite veterans to campus this year, but we still honored our military on Veterans Day. In our Hall of Honor, we displayed photos of people who have served and continue to serve, including faculty and alum, family members of students and community members. Photos scrolled on monitors throughout the day, and flags lined our sidewalks for each name. Over 300 flags were displayed.

It’s a good fall to be a Warrior fan! ØØ All five Lady Warriors on the state golf tournament team are Academic All-State honorees, including Kaylea Affeld (St. Mark, Watertown), Ella Butzine (Holy Cross, Madison), Ava & Maya Heckmann (St. Andrew, Middleton) and Lauren Lostetter (St. Paul, Lake Mills). ØØ Our boys soccer team won the regional championship. ØØ Four CC runners went to sectionals and three continued to the WIAA state meet: Abigail Minning (St. Luke, Watertown), Paige Krahn (Eastside, Madison), and Cameron Weiland (Zion, Columbus). ØØ After taking regional and sectional titles, the volleyball team continued to the State Finals, bringing home the silver ball. Senior setter Kaylee Raymond (Peace, Sun Prairie) was named Wisconsin’s Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 2 - 8 by MaxPreps/American Volleyball Coaches Association, and 3 players earned all-state team status: Payton Kuepers (Our Redeemer, Madison) on 1st team, Kylee Gnabasik (St. John, Jefferson) on 2nd and Ella DeNoyer (Wisconsin Lutheran Chapel, Madison) honorable mention. ØØ The football team went 5-0 in regular season play and achieved a double overtime victory in the 2020 Slider Bowl. They earned a #1 seed in post-season culminating events. Senior Micah Cody (St. John, Juneau) was named a semi-finalist for WisSports.net’s Elroy “Crazylegs” Hirsch Award!
