Your faith DNA
Genealogy is “all the rage.” In recent years, millions have taken DNA tests, performed online research, and searched family Bibles and letters, all to find out about themselves through their ancestors. Perhaps they feel their past will also reveal their future. As God’s people, we have a “faith-genealogy.” It tells us about ourselves by looking at the lives of believers who preceded us. It also gives us the sure hope of our future life to come. The Apostle Paul warned the Galatian churches about “a different gospel” [Galatians 1:6] that some of them embraced. As an “apostle to the Gentiles” [Galatians 2:8], the Holy Spirit led him to explain how Christ perfectly fulfilled the law of Moses. As such, the law’s requirements —particularly circumcision—no longer bound believers. Unfortunately, some Galatians believed the false teachers’ lies that they were obligated to live by the law. Near the letter’s midpoint, Paul states, “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” [Galatians 3:28]. In God’s eyes, we “are all one.” When God views us, he does not see us as we are. He sees us as Christ has made us. Without Christ’s righteousness, a holy and righteous God sees all humans as sinners. He views us “like one who is unclean.” In this state, even our attempts to fulfil the law by “righteous acts are like filthy rags” [Is. 64:6]. For this, we deserve only God’s wrath and eternal punishment. Through Christ’s atoning work, God sees us in a wholly different way. We are not “Jew nor Gentile … slave nor free … male and female.” Rather, we “are all one in Christ Jesus.” Through him, we are also “without blemish and free from accusation” [Colossians 1:22]. If you researched your ancestry, you may have made interesting discoveries. Some of them may even have provided you with personal insights. Never forget your greater ancestry with all believers by faith in Christ. Through him alone, we “are all one.”
Lord, as your family members by faith, lead us to thank you daily with our words and actions.

lakeside good news E notes cc The STEM Club hosted the iGems Team from Wisconsin Lutheran College, which includes Forever Warrior Emma Guld (‘18, St. Paul, Lake Mills). iGem attends an international competition that challenges participants to use proteins and DNA in unique and innovative ways. After a brief presentation, club members were led through a DNA isolation activity. cc Congrats to senior Brianna Preskar (St. John, Juneau), who won a State FFA Alumni scholarship toward expenses of the Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. She met the rest of the $1,200 cost with help from our Warrior chapter, the FFA Alumni, and Culver’s Scoopie night. cc Teens for Christ kicked off 2020 by hosting our second New Friends event, which brings together Warriors and young adults with special needs for activities and fun and a devotion. Next event is March 8. cc At the end of January, members of Teens for Christ met for several hours after school to assemble freezer meals for 10 local foster families. “They just go at it and get it done!” says TfC advisor, Ruth Hirschfeld. “The foster families have been very appreciative of the meals.” Teens for Christ were also featured on the community page of Forward in Christ. cc Ensembles, choirs, and bands took care of business & kept everyone entertained at our Pops Concert on Feb. 2. That same day, our grade school friends displayed their artistic gifts at our Visual Art Fair. cc Lakeside’s senior robotics team clinched a state tournament berth by finishing third in skills at the Wisconn Valley VEX competition. Katelyn McGurk (St. Paul, Lake Mills); Trevor Geerdts (Wisconsin Lutheran Chapel), and Gilbert Haw (St. Paul, Lake Mills) comprise this first-ever state
qualifying team in the 3 year-old Warrior VEX Robotics program. cc A decade of dominance! The Lakeside Lutheran High School forensics team participated in the Capitol Conference Tournament at Lake Mills High School on Feb. 3. Students competed against each other within 17 speaking categories. Of the 10 conference schools at the tournament, your LLHS, coached by Steve Lauber, finished first with a total of 333 points, more than 140 more than the next highest score. The win marks our 10th straight conference championship. Congrats to our first place performers: Megan Jones (Immanuel, Farmington) Demonstration; Evelyn Schauer (St. John, Watertown) Farrago; Matthew Gunst (Trinity, Hartford) Informative; Logan Wensel (St. Paul, Lake Mills) Moments in History; Brontë Perkins (Holy Cross, Madison) and Ella Butzine (Holy Cross) Playacting; Connor Dobson (Immanuel, Farmington) and Megan Grambsch (Zion, Columbus) tied for first place in Prose; Abbie DiGiovanni (St. John, Jefferson) Solo Acting Humorous; Annika Bilitz (Wisconsin Lutheran Chapel) Solo Acting Serious; Kaylee Raymond (Peace, Sun Prairie) Special Occasion; and Ryann Burger (St. John, Newville) Storytelling. cc On Sunday, Feb. 9, 56 grade school dancers braved “Elsa’s snowstorm” to be at the Warrior dance clinic. They then performed at halftime of boys home bball Feb. 13. cc On Feb. 12, the Introduction to Engineering Design class took a field trip to John Deere Horicon Works, which manufactures premium lawn equipment and Gator utility vehicles. cc Great news! Mr. Todd Hackbarth and Pastor Don Schultz both returned calls to serve elsewhere and will be staying with us!
