Your LLHS is preparing to host another Community Electronics Recycling Event! This year’s dates are Friday, April 21, 3:30-6pm & Saturday, April 22, 8am-2pm. Most electronics and appliances are accepted for recycling. Go to llhs.org/recycling to download a list of all recyclable items. Items do not have to be in working condition (e.g. computers, stereos, copiers, phones, cameras, hair dryers, remotes, toaster ovens, fans, metal tools, vacuums, appliances, batteries and much more). Go to the west end parking lot anytime during the hours listed. Volunteers can help unload and get you back on your way in no time!

Not just an option “I’m checking out the options.”

Every parochial school administrator has likely heard these words. Parents sometimes become dissatisfied with their child’s current school.

When this happens, they explore the options.

However, Christian education is not just an option. It is true education. God gives us two reasons for this.

First, God commands parents to train their children in his Word. He says, “Impress [my commands and promises] on your children” (Deuteronomy 6:7). The psalmist adds, “We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord,...which he commanded our ancestors to teach their children...and they in turn would tell their children” (Psalm 78:4-6). Christian education is God’s directive to parents. In addition to what they teach in their homes, many parents use Christian schools to reinforce the message. It is their joy to provide this opportunity for their children.

Secondly, God promises to bless his Word. Christian schools employ the Word of God in every possible situation. Students in Christian schools are immersed in Scripture from “bell to bell.” They are continuously exposed to the blessings of God’s Word in school. Isaiah writes, “[My Word] will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it” (Isaiah 55:11). Our Savior also attests that his Word is “full of the Spirit and life” (John 6:63).

Most education trains only the mind and body.

Christian education also does this by first reaching the heart. God’s Word has the power to effect true change in all learners for now and eternity.

Christian education is not just an option. It is true education.

5 questions GC faculty “Five Questions with the Faculty” is a light-hearted look at the teaching staff at Lakeside Lutheran High School. This edition features Mr. Damon Tracy, who joined the faculty in 1996. He teaches upper level sciences, advises the Tech Club, and coordinates the A/V on campus.

Here are some other things you may—or may not— know about Damon Tracy:: Damon and his wife, Leah, who drives bus for LLHS, are members at St. Paul, Lake Mills. They have two children: Hannah (‘14), who is a chef, and Autumn (‘16), who will be attending UW-Whitewater.

What is your favorite thing to do on a Saturday?

Being a storm chaser, an astronaut, or a benevolent dictator of a small country (none of which I have actually done (yet.....)).

When you’re at your fave restaurant, where are you & what do you order?

I’m at the restaurant at the end of the universe, and my favorite things would be anything deep fried and/ or covered with melted cheese.

What is your favorite movie or book of all time?

Movies: The Star Wars sagas Book: The Whispering Rabbit and Other Stories by Margaret Wise Brown.

Especially liked the section “I like cars.”

What’s one of your most humorous moments at LLHS? In Physics class, we were launching water bottle rockets behind school with no wind that we could feel. A very well-built rocket went up few hundred feet and got carried over to the parking lot by the upper level wind—and put a significant dent in the roof of a student car. It was within 2 inches of taking out the windshield.

We have not launched those rockets in a while . . . for some reason or another.

What’s one of your most heartwarming moments of your time at LLHS? It happens at the start of every year: seeing new faces looking forward to new adventures.

End of another quarter brings

Cast has been chosen and rehearsals have begun for the LLHS drama production of the Wild West comedy Is There a Doctor in the House? The cast of 22 cowboys, doctors, sheriffs and other townsfolk, along with behindthe-scenes workers, are gearing up for performances Friday and Saturday, April 28–29. Tickets will be available to the public beginning April 7— look to llhs.org for links and more details.

March and April bring a new round of Jesus’ lambs to campus as Mr. Lauber hosts Federation 2nd grade classrooms on 13 different days in March and April for fun and education in our Science and Videography departments. Mr. Tracy (see faculty profile at left) uses Legos® and Cheetos® to teach physics and chemistry, while Mr. Hackbarth puts these little lambs to work in front and behind the camera for a video that will be released at Eastertime. See our photo archive at the end of April at llhs.smugmug.com Student Council members and their advisor Pastor Toepel organized and ran the annual drive for the BloodCenter of Wisconsin in March and hit a new campus record with 108 people through the door, and 79 pints collected!

Our winter sports teams held their annual awards night, when coaches, families and boosters gather to celebrate another season in wrestling and basketball. Our Warrior wrestling team placed 3rd in Region and three wrestlers earned a trip to sectionals, including honorary team captain Zech Schleef. Senior Clark Thiele was conference champ at 145# weight class and was named team MVP. Boys Basketball made it into the 2nd round of regional play and ended with a 6-4 record in conference and 16-8 overall. Senior Cam Kuepers was named to 1st team All-Conference, and two sophomores, Will DeNoyer and Jack Monis, were named to the 2nd team. Girls Basketball took a share of the Capitol Conference champion title with a record of 8-2 (15-8 overall) and ended their season in the 2nd round of WIAA tournament play. Senior Laura Hafenstein was named to 1st team All-Conference, sophomore Kaitlyn Shadoski earned a spot on 2nd team, and juniors Kalies Birkholz and Kelsey Birschbach received honorable mention.

On March 16, the Warrior Forensics team performed at the District Festival and will advance a perfect 25 of 25 entries on to the State Festival at UW– Madison in April. Special recognition to three speakers....Lillie Johnstone in 4-Minute Speaking, Maddie Triebold in Storytelling and Abbie DiGiovanni in Solo Acting– Humorous, who each received a perfect 25 in all 3 rounds.

At the District WSMA Solo-Ensemble Festival, 16 Warrior Class A entries earned a starred first rating, including Swing Choir and the Percussion Ensemble along with 10 solos and 4 duets and a trio. Starred first ratings in Class A, the highest level of music selection, qualify the musicians to perform at the State Festival in April.

Overall, Lakeside had 59 solo or ensemble entries involving more than 75 students.
