2016 Electronics Recycling Results Ours is certainly an electronic age. For the fourth straight year, your LLHS has hosted days when the federation and the community can bring in virtually anything with batteries or a power cord and have us recycle it for you. You took us up on our offer yet again! Some numbers: 94 televisions, 62 computer monitors and a semi load of assorted other electronics, plus another semi-load of scrap appliances. Wow! What a blessing to know all this will be recycled at a minimum cost to our environment. The state of recycling today results in LLHS about breaking even from this event (except for cash donations). However, we are very happy to report that LL computer students were able to pick or repair 4 TVs and 6 monitors, a printer, a Roomba and assorted hardware that will be put to use right here at school. All in all, another “green” win-win!

Fed eration Connection Marry me?

A message for the month of weddings...

A young voice exclaimed, “That’s ridiculous! Why would someone get married and then cheat?” Here is someone who gets it! Reading tabloid headlines in a checkout line, this child discovered the story of a married celebrity being openly unfaithful to his spouse. True or not, it was obvious to this child: this is ridiculous! God establishes marriage as the lifelong union of a man and a woman. It is fitting that this month—the most popular for weddings—we consider his institution of marriage. Marriage is first described in Genesis. Soon after his own creation, Adam realized he had no counterpart as the other living creatures had. In love, the Lord proposed to “make a helper suitable for him” [2:18]. After putting Adam into a deep sleep, the Lord took part of him and formed it into a perfect being. From his own body, here was the one of whom Adam declared, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh” [2:23]. The holy writer Moses then adds that in this special union “a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh” [2:24]. God instituted marriage for three distinct purposes. First, it provides companionship. Husbands and wives complement each other in many ways. Secondly, God blesses marriage with sexual happiness; spouses share a special bond through physical intimacy. Thirdly, God blesses marriages with children. Offspring are “crowns” and “heritages”—blood-bought souls created to serve God now on earth and forever in heaven. Scripture’s view of marriage has recently endured heavy attacks. Human views of marriage are not simple personal interpretations or being “openminded.” Rather, they advocate marriage differently than God’s Word prescribes, and willfully and sinfully ignore his will. God—in this month of weddings and always—lead husbands and wives to first love and honor you. When they do this, they will also love and honor each other.
