Fed eration Connection

You can run, but you can’t hide This phrase, attributed to boxer Joe Louis, was his declaration that no one could hide from him in the boxing ring. This statement parallels one that a conference speaker recently made: “You can dull the natural knowledge of God, but you cannot get rid of it!” Everyone has innate knowledge of God. Although it is insufficient for salvation, it provides a consciousness of God: he exists, he created the world and everything in it, and he daily directs its actions. The Apostle Paul wrote, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities his eternal power and divine nature - have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made” [Romans 1:20]. All humans know there is a God. However, Paul observed how sinful humans attempt to corrupt this knowledge, exchanging it for something “higher.” Humans use man-made philosophies, beliefs, and teachings to replace the natural knowledge of God for humanistic, sinful ones. Humans will try nearly anything to “[exchange] the truth about God for a lie” [1:25]. But they can’t. Despite all that they do to eliminate God from their lives, the natural knowledge of him remains. It always will. Paul even notes “people are without excuse” for knowing that God exists [1:20].

Your Lakeside Lutheran is preparing to host another Community Electronics Recycling Event! This year’s dates are Friday, April 22, 3:30-6pm & Saturday, April 23, 8am-2pm. Most electronics and appliances are accepted for recycling. Go to llhs.org/recycling to download a list of all recyclable items. Items do not have to be in working condition (e.g. computers, stereos, copiers, phones, cameras, hair dryers, remotes, toaster ovens, fans, metal tools, vacuums, and much more). Go to the west end parking lot anytime during the hours listed. Volunteers can help unload and get you back on your way in no time!

We, too, try to substitute worldly things for God: fame, relationships, money, and the like. In an effort to push away God, we exchange his presence for temporary, earthly lies. Too often these things are harmful. We only fool ourselves thinking that we can rid ourselves of God. Thank God that he loves us and daily forgives us. Through his Word, he continually reinforces our natural knowledge of him. He blesses what we hear in his Word to take root and grow into saving faith. His Word reminds us that salvation is found in him alone through his Son, Jesus, our Savior. Thank God for his love and forgiveness! “You can run [from God], but you can’t hide.” Thank God for his grace by which he continually embraces us sinners as his dear children.
