FED eration CONnection Easter all summer

On Easter Sunday, Christians throughout the world greeted each other with an age old salutation, “Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!” What do these words mean for you and me?

First, Jesus’ resurrection means that we, too, will rise from the dead.

The Christian faith depends on Jesus’ resurrection. Without it, there is no reason for Christianity and no purpose to this life. The resurrection gives us the sure hope that we, too, will rise from the dead.

Secondly, Jesus’ resurrection means that we will rise to new lives.

Faith in Christ produces fruits of faith. Christians know that their former lives were controlled by sin. It was our master. The power of God’s Word and his Holy Spirit has changed our lives into loving, productive lives that serve him and others.

Finally, Jesus’ resurrection means that we will rise to share God’s message of salvation with others.

Christians truly prize God’s grace in their lives. We realize what changes it has caused in us and we know that this change can belong to others. Our desire is to share the Word of God with others so that they, too, can have the Easter joy that is ours through Christ.

“Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!”

This is not a hollow greeting. It is a call to action. Christians, rise to love your God and serve him at Easter and always!

Corlett shares a sweet class of 2014 memory in memory

Two ministry-bound seniors reflect on time and teachers

This article is sixth in a series of faculty and staff responses to why they’re thankful to serve at your Lakeside, along with recollections of moments that demonstrates the value of the investment of time and resources for the families who choose LLHS for their children.

Family and Consumer Education (FACE) teacher Sandi Corlett has had experience in both public and Lutheran schools. “The Christ-centered atmosphere at LLHS is priceless,” she says. “I can go to fellow Christian teachers if I have concerns and know I’ll receive loving & Christ-centered encouragement. When students come to me with concerns, I can give them Christ-centered counsel. That’s invaluable.”

This year’s graduates are missing one of their own when they walk across the stage on Memorial Day weekend.

Morgan Turnquist was with the class of 2014 until her passing last summer as a result of her almost lifelong cancer.

Several of this year’s seniors walked that rough road with Morgan, celebrated her good days, sat by her side on tough days, and were strengthened by a young woman who was a mighty witness to God’s grace throughout her 17 years.

Morgan’s journey was one of the reasons for the class of 2014 chose Romans 5:3–4 as its graduation verse: “ Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings,

because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”

Mrs. Corlett shares a memory that reminds us of the extra special relationship Christian school teachers and students can have: “One of the joys of teaching at LLHS for me has been having students that I had as preschoolers, come to Lakeside for their high school years.

“Morgan was one of these students. As a preschooler, she received her diagnosis of brain cancer; I was then the only teacher to have Morgan in class for her last day of high school last spring. The Christian love and concern of the other students was amazing to see. Her friends walked her to sewing class since Morgan’s balance no longer allowed her to do that independently. Knowing that Morgan really wanted to complete the valances for her bedroom, other students in Sewing volunteered to help Morgan with the project. According to her mom, that polka-dot valance now hangs in Morgan’s former bedroom in memory of the Christian love Morgan experienced here.”

Your Lakeside Lutheran graduates 98 seniors at the end of May, and in so doing, ends another successful school year filled with blessings for students and staff alike. Of those graduates, 87 have indicated plans for further schooling at college or tech schools and five are planning to serve God and country in the military (one is returning to her home in Norway!). We are proud to prepare each of our grads for excellence and faithfulness in whatever their future courses hold, and of course, we are very pleased when some choose to prepare for the public ministry after their years here. The following two students are two of up to nine from the class of 2014 who have indicated plans to attend Martin Luther College, our WELS pastor & teacher training college. spencer jensen

Lakeside is a great place where you not only grow in your faith, but you also make friends who grow in their faith with you. The teachers at Lakeside are always encouraging you to strive to do your best and at the same time they use the Word of God in everyday lessons in their classes. Lakeside is also a great opportunity to excel in the talents that the Lord gave you, whether it is in sports, forensics, band, choir, publications or technology.

The two teachers who inspired me the most were Pastor Clark and Mrs. Tetzlaff. PC inspired me to put my best foot forward. He also encouraged me in my faith and also to pursue a career in the public ministry. Mrs. T was always there for me; I could go to her and she would just listen no matter what. She also is the art teacher, so you can express yourself in the art that you create.

My future plans including going to MLC for pastoral studies. After graduating, I plan to attend Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary to finish out my studies to become a pastor. victoria lober

Attending Lakeside has been the best four years of my life. I think that Lakeside is a great school. Not only do you get to make new Christian friends your first year, but you also get to hear the Word of God every day.

There has been a teacher that I look up to and that I still look up to: Mr. Buege. Mr. Buege has played a very important role in my life, not only in music, but also in English. I enjoyed singing in the many different choirs here and taking Language Arts with Mr. Buege and Composition. After I graduate, I plan on pursuing a career as a called worker. I am going to MLC to become a grade school teacher. I can’t wait to use the talents that I have been given by God to serve my Lord and Savior!
