blessings at christmas

Do you consider your family a past, present or future “Lakeside family”?

If so, please send

Lakeside one of your 2013 Christmas family photos! Many of our families take photos and turn them into Christmas greetings to share with family and friends. We have a group of Lakeside friends who plan to again transform the main bulletin board here at Lakeside into a collage of families who are proud to call themselves Lakeside supporters. Let us add your photo to the board! Drop off a photo in the office, send it with a student or visitor, even e-mail to info@llhs.org and we will print it out! Then come to campus and enjoy the wonderful collection of families blessed by Christian education at Lakeside!

in the End Times

“Bookends” are props that keep a line of books in place. Usually, they begin and end a row of books. The Church Year also has bookends: the seasons of Advent and the End Times. Advent begins the Church Year. The word comes from the Latin adventus, meaning “coming” or “arrival.” The season focuses PRINCIPAL’S PEN on the “coming” of Jesus as the Christ and our King. Advent worship themes, Bible readings and prayers spiritually prepare us for Christmas (his first coming), but frequently refer to his second coming. The End Times are the final four Sundays of the Church Year. This season focuses on Jesus’ final return. It emphasizes the events leading up to the world’s end and Christ’s triumphant arrival on Judgment Day. Advent and the End Times are strongly flavored with both the law and the gospel, evident through their readings. As we move through the end of the Church Year, it is fitting to consider the theology of the End Times. The law in the End Times readings is evident through terms like pay back, blazing fire, punish, and everlasting destruction (from 2 Thessalonians 1). These words remind us sinners what we truly deserve: eternal death in hell. There are no second chances, no opportunities for do-overs, and no possibilities of self-justification. It is what it is: we are lost in sin with no hope for salvation on our own. Yet, in those same readings, the gospel shines forth. Words like worthy, relief, glorified and marveled (also from 2 Thessalonians 1) reflect the message of free grace from God alone through faith. To believers, End Times offers joy and — see Principal’s Pen, inside
