families: look for summer advantage

Another summer issue of our family magazine—The Lakeside Lutheran Advantage— is on its way to the mailboxes of grade school families and church offices. In it families will find another opportunity at what’s becoming an anticipated new tradition: contests for grade school students. In our first three contests, we’ve had students searching for items at Lakeside, submitting photos and writing down what they like about Lakeside. Now, in our fourth issue, grade school students get to emulate a project that Lakeside students took on this spring: a video clip contest called “Pass It On.” Families can use cell phones and other video recorders to get 8 seconds of video showing a cross moving left to right across the frame. Lakeside students had a blast, and so will younger students! Lakeside videography will produce a video like the teens’ afterward, and there’s a chance for one of 20 prizes! See the magazine for the full story. Look for the LL teens’ video on the home page at www.llhs.org

Federation Connection June 2013

a publication of Lakeside Lutheran High School Volume 2: Issue 10

I’ll take the bubble wrap! In 1957, two men attempted to create three-dimensional, plastic wallpaper. Although their initial idea failed, the by-product of their work became a staple of daily life. Today, bubble wrap protectively cushions millions of shipped items.

Christian education is bubble wrap for its students. Parents send their children to Christian schools for an environment where Jesus is Lord and he is all in all. His Word reigns supreme, and it is the basis by which everything is viewed, taught, and practiced. Critics of Christian education cite its insular nature. They say that its students are cocooned from the real world. On the contrary, our children today need the truth of God’s Word in their lives more than ever. Daily, they hear Satan’s lies, they are pressured to conform to this corrupt world, and they struggle with their own sinful natures. Particularly in Christian high schools, students are only months or a few years from having spoken their Confirmation vows. This is a crucial period. Young Christian adults need the full support of family and school working together to develop habits and patterns of Christian living. Young people need daily exposure to the Word of God, contact with Christian adults, and the support and encouragement of Christian peers to grow in their knowledge of Jesus, and their confidence that he is their Savior and the Savior of all believers. Christian education—at all levels—provides a protective layer—a bubble wrap—to its students. Students in Christian school are protected as they grow and mature in the saving faith. “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my Savior.” 2 Samuel 22:2-3 Mr. Jim Grasby is principal of Lakeside Lutheran; his column is featured in every FedCon.
