Federation Connection September 2012

a publication of Lakeside Lutheran High School Volume 2: Issue 1

With tongue in cheek, it is said that the four most important groups in schools are janitors, secretaries, bus drivers and cooks. While all four serve important functions, the group that directly impacts the most students every day is the cooks. If “an army marches on its stomach,” a school moves forward with well-fed students. After all, one cannot learn if his stomach is rumbling. Soon after Jesus fed the 5,000, he redirected his followers. Many viewed him as a mere bread king to satisfy their earthly hunger. Even after he explained that he offered them life-giving bread, some still looked for a miracle. At this point Jesus

stated, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day” (John 6:35, 40). With this statement, Jesus identifies himself, as well as testifies of his origin and purpose. Jesus is the life-giving bread that the world so desperately needs. With him are eternal life and a sure future. Without him is death and destruction. Lutheran schools provide for the spiritual well-being of their students in a nurturing environment. Every day, Lutheran teachers feed their students the “bread of life” to satisfy their spiritual hunger. At the same time, Lutheran schools provide an excellent education in the core subjects and electives to train their students to productively serve God and one another. Lutheran school students enjoy the best of both worlds - training for the real world as Christians and preparation as the future citizens of heaven! — see Principal’s Pen, inside
