We would like to sincerely thank our citizens for your continued support and contributions throughout 2025. Your involvement, feedback, and commitment to our parks system played a critical role as we worked to recover and rebuild following Hurricane Helene. Because of that support, 2026 will be an exciting year, with multiple park projects reaching completion and new improvements coming online across the system. We look forward to another great year serving you and your family and are grateful to be part of a community that values parks, recreation, and quality of life. Thank you for being part of our parks system—we’ll see you in the parks! Sincerely,

WAYNESVILLE PARKS & RECREATION

MASTER PLAN What is a Parks & Recreation Master Plan?

A Parks & Recreation Master Plan is a long-range guide that helps our town plan for parks, trails, green spaces, community facilities, and recreation programs over the coming years. Think of it as a road map that shows how Waynesville can best serve current residents and future generations — from playgrounds and sports fields to walking trails and natural spaces. Master plans look at existing conditions, community needs, and priorities, and recommend projects, timing, and strategies to make sure investments are smart, equitable, and sustainable.

Who is conducting Waynesville’s Master Plan? Our Master Plan is being developed by WithersRavenel, a multidisciplinary planning and engineering firm with decades of experience helping communities like ours envision and implement parks, recreation, and open-space improvements. WithersRavenel is an employee-owned civil and community planning firm founded in 1983, with professionals in planning, landscape architecture, engineering, and public engagement working together to shape community plans and spaces. Their Parks & Recreation planning process includes gathering data, assessing current facilities and programs, engaging residents and stakeholders, and developing a vision and actionable recommendations that reflect what the community wants and needs.

Why Your Voice is So Important — Take the Community Survey! A key part of the Master Plan is public input, and that’s where you come in. The survey we’ll be sharing soon is your chance to tell us what matters most to you — which parks and programs you use, what’s missing, what could be improved, and what future projects are priorities for Waynesville. Public surveys are crucial because they give planners a real, community-wide snapshot of what residents want and need. This feedback helps ensure the Master Plan doesn’t just reflect expert analysis, but also the opinions and experiences of the people who live here. Survey responses help guide decision-making, shape priorities, support grant applications, and improve transparency — ultimately leading to better parks, programs, and public spaces that reflect the community’s true needs. Whether you’re a daily park visitor or someone who rarely uses recreational facilities — your input matters. The Master Plan’s success depends on hearing from as many voices as possible so that the final plan truly represents all corners of our community.

Stay Tuned — Survey Coming Soon! Watch for the upcoming survey link in our newsletter, social media channels, and town website. We encourage you to participate and share it with your family, neighbors, and friends. Together, we can shape the future of parks and recreation in Waynesville for years to come!
