/Greeting It’sПриветствие not enough just to produce good wine, you have to sell it as well. That is why the marketing of wine has become so important. The change that has taken place in recent years is remarkable. Wineries have become tourist attractions in themselves. The shelves of specialist wine shops have seen a transformation from a homogeneous appearance to a differentiation between different producers’ wines. Wine regions are presented in exhibitions, specialist journals and magazines aimed at foreigners. Wine as a commodity and its related services in a ‘European’ guise are offered to all interested parties. A brand image is not simply achieved with the labels of wine bottles. At wineries, at the stands of wine and other festivals, and in reaching out to the public in general, confidence and a positive image are generated if the glasses, the clothing of employees, the promotional gifts and the commercial products on sale have a set appearance and reflect the character of the brand. I know from experience that several days after visiting a wine cellar, apart from the excellent drinks and the taste of savouries accompanying the wine, not many tangible memories remain about the given place. Many countries of the European Union have their own governmental programs in the framework of which national permanent residence permit is granted through an investment. The amount of the investment and the terms and conditions are different, but there is a general rule of thumb. A permanent residence permit may only be issued 5 years after acquiring a temporary permit. The investment program of the Hungarian government offers a special opportunity for obtaining a permanent residence permit, which is possible after as short a time as 6 months, provided that an investment into governmental bonds is made. The required sum of investment is 300,000 EUR, which shall be fully refunded after a 5-year fixed term. The Picasso Museum is housed in a castle built on the ancient Greek acropolis of Antipolis, occupied until 1608 by the Grimaldi family, which left its name to the Château. In 1928 the city of Antibes purchased the castle and transformed it into a museum of history and archaeology. In 1946, Picasso who was living in Golfe-Juan, was delighted with the offer by the museum curator. ■

The gardens are named “Boulingrins” Gardens, a Francization of « bowling green », the typical British game, whose elegance is reminiscent of Monte-Carlo in the 1930’s. Using the words « bowling green » as a theme, the inaugural evening at the end of 2014 was full of surprises (butterfly release, fragrance promenade of Jasmin or a typical English brass quartet) for the most prestigious guests. The event was an opportunity to discover and relive the atmosphere of a bowling green party in a quirky retro-chic setting, staged by a dozen of English actors. Bowling green is also a version of « bowling », joyful and fun, and especially of « green », or the inescapable reflection of the Societé des Bains de Mer group’s commitment towards ecology and sustainable development. The preservation of gardens and trees is one of Société des Bains de Mer’s priorities, which preserves an important expanse of green spaces and flora. Accordingly, landscape architect Jean Mus successfully integrated the Pavillons Monte-Carlo in Monaco’s urban landscape by designing a lush botanical universe, merging with the Jardins de la Petite Afrique. The boutiques herald a future ensemble, one that will reshape the Monte-Carlo vicinity into a place of animation and conviviality, while remaining focused on its commitment to innovative ecological urbanism. At the forefront of fashions and trends, these ephemeral constructions will house the most prestigious brands, previously located on Avenue des Beaux-Arts for the next four years. ■

В этом году администрация президента Франции продала 1200 бутылок коллекционных вин – это десять процентов от общего количества – для того, чтобы на сумму от продажи отремонтировать Елисейский дворец. Безусловно это были очень дорогие вина. На аукционе, который состоялся в аукционном доме Дрюо, вина были проданы за 250 тысяч евро. В основном это были вина из Бургундии и Бордо. Самым дорогим стало вино Petrus из Бордо урожая 1990 года, проданное за сумму, составляющую почти миллион в пересчёте на венгерские форинты. Эти вина предназначались для ужинов и приёмов, устраиваемых французским президентом для высокопоставленных лиц – глав других государств или иностранных премьер-министров. Франсуа Олланд обвинил своих предшественников в чрезмерных тратах. Коллекция вин Елисейского дворца, насчитывающая 12 тысяч бутылок – это, по его мнению, ненужная роскошь. This year the French presidential office sold ten per cent of its wine stocks, comprising 1200 bottles, with a view to using the income to finance renovation of the Élysée Palace. Naturally, the wines were very expensive. The sale was organised by the Drouot auction house, and more than 250,000 euros was raised. Primarily batches of Burgundi and Bordeaux were involved. The most expensive was a Bordeaux Petrus, which in Hungarian forints went for about a million. All the wines had been intended for dinners held by the French president or very elegant receptions for prime ministers and heads of state. François Hollande accused his predecessors of overspending and it had caught his eye that since 1947 the Élysée Palace had increased its wine stocks to 12,000 bottles. The wine cellar has been strictly guarded, since it contained a fortune, but from now on that won’t be necessary as Hollande wants to fill it with cheap French wines. In his opinion, French wines of modest quality are worthy of being served to internationally famous politicians. The Financial Times, one of the world’s most authoritative newspapers, took up the theme. It recalled that in the early 1970s the British ambassador in Paris successfully convinced French decision makers about the advantages of British membership in the European Community (at the time the European Union didn’t exist), while consuming a tremendous amount of expensive wine. For years Charles de Gaulle had used his veto against the British, but after the get-together the boycott was over. As regards the British, two years ago the government of David Cameron decided to auction off its best French wines instead of serving them to its prestigious guests. According to the new rules, every year a written report has to be submitted to the UK parliament about the content of Her Majesty’s wine stocks and the number of bottles. Currently the oldest wines in the cellar are a 1955 Bordeaux red and a 1964 Champagne-Ardenne, while the oldest cognac dates from 1878. Consumption of the latter is very sparing, since every drop is worth much more than an ounce of gold. ■

At Bargino, just a half an hour by car away from Florence, the new headquarters of the Marchesi Antinori firm and the new Chianti Classico winery rised. A extraordinary work of architecture, concealed among the olive groves, the vineyards, the stands of oak and holm oak. A hidden cavern where wine is at the center of all movement, of work, of the reception of guests and visitors. A temple dedicated to wine, but above all a homage to the Tuscan landscape and its vineyards. In the heart of Chianti Classico, the place of origin of the Antinori family, the future of these vintners, whose sole passion, for 26 generations, has been to make great wine, began anew. One discovers piece by piece this extraordinary atelier dedicated to wine, passing curve after curve and finally landing on a terrace which gives onto the countryside. whose heart is wine, an integral part of a journey which crosses the barrel-aging cellar, the fermenting cellars, the museum area, a library, a shop, the restaurant, the auditorium. The architectural project was born in 2005, created by the florentine architect, Marco Casamonti, who chose natural, Tuscan materials such as the terracotta of nearby Impruneta, the stones, the Corten iron, a lovely rust-colored alloy of steel, copper, nickel, and chrome. But who wanted, above all, an edifice inextricably linked to Nature. Everything has done with transparency and constant circulation in mind: the sinuous lines of the cellar architecture, the suspended bridges just a few meters away from the tanks where the wines ferment. The phase in which the wines are created can be observed just as in a theatrical event, watching cellar workers and the technical staff as they de-stem the grape bunches, move the must into the stainless steel tanks and, from the tanks, to the barrels and casks and, finally, from the oak to the bottle. The new winery is the place where the “pleasure of breathing wine” will be discovered. And of understanding the phases of its life cycle: the fermentation and the aging. This airy edifice is the place where wines such as Villa Antinori, Vinsanto del Chianti Classico, Pèppoli Chianti Classico, the Pèppoli extra-virgin olive oil are produced. The structure was conceived in order to allow gravity-flow fermentation and aging, without any use of mechanical pumps:

this leads to important energy savings and a functional use of the spaces below the fermenting tanks, more dynamic and efficient working procedures, and a great respect for the wine itself. Gravity-flow fermentation and aging, in fact, is a method which allows the grapes to be worked in a less traumatic way, with results which are already evident in the glass: the wine is more balanced and elegant with smoother, suppler tannins. The process begins at the upper floors, where the grapes arrive from the vineyards and where expert hands select the better bunches: only the finest berries are utilized in order to create the cellar’s great wines. The pressing is carried out with light breaking of the berry skins. There is a triple selection process: in the vineyard, of the bunches, and of the berries. Maximum attention has been given to the environment: minimal environmental impact and minimal use of energy. The temperatures which are necessary for the barrel-aging of the wines are those of the earth, not of refrigeration units. The new Marchesi Antinori winery was inspired as well by this principle: maintaining an ideal temperature for the production and conservation of wine by absolutely natural methods. ■

The Royal Palace, where many battles and wars took place from the 13th century, is a symbol for Hungary. With the Buda Castle in the background, the Hungarian capital’s first bridge, now a monument, is a fascinating spectacle that has attracted many tourists to Budapest. The bridge was built upon the request of Count István Széchenyi by designer William Tierney Clark and engineer Adam Clark between 1839 and 1849. Like many other Danube bridges, the Chain Bridge did not survive the ravages of the World War, so it had to be rebuilt in 1949, marking the centenary of its first opening. Visitors also have the opportunity to walk onto the top of the tunnel located on the Buda side, offering a marvellous view of the Danube, its bridges as well as the nicest parts of Pest. PARLIAMENT. The Parliament, built in Neo-Gothic style and located on the bank of the Danube, serves as the permanent seat of the National Assembly. The building complex, the biggest of its kind in Hungary, was erected between 1884 and 1904 on the plans of Imre Steindl. The building has 691 rooms, and it is 268 metres long and the dome 96 metres high. Since 2000, the Hungarian coronation symbols – St. Stephen’s crown, the sceptre, the orb and the Renaissance sword – have been on display in the Parliament. The Parlaiment has a brand new Visitor Center with café and in front of the building there is a beautiful park for walking. In the Visitor Center you can buy your ticket to visit the Parliament inside. ST. STEPHEN’S BASILICA. St. Stephen’s Basilica, or Lipót City Parish Church, is one of the most significant ecclesiastical buildings of Hungary as well as a major tourist attraction of the capital. It serves as the main site of worship for St. Stephen. The Basilica is named after St. Stephen, the founder of the Kingdom of Hungary, whose incorruptible right hand, known as the Holy Right, is kept here as a relic. It is the largest church in Budapest, the dome of which can be seen from all parts of the city. The Classicist Basilica was built between 1851 and 1905. Famous masterpieces in the church include statues by Alajos Stróbl as well as a painting of St. Stephen offering his country to the Virgin Mary by Gyula Benczúr. The dome of the building offers a wonderful 360° view of the Budapest.

техника /Technique HERO’S SQUARE. Located at the end of Andrássy Avenue, Heroes’ Square is the entrance to the City Park as well as one of the most spectacular venues in the very beautiful capital city, Budapest. The three main sites of the square include the Hall of Art, built in 1896, the Museum of Fine Arts, inaugurated in December 1906, as well as the Millennium Monument, linking both buildings visually. The latter includes a 36-metre central column, topped by a statue of the archangel Gabriel who holds the Holy Crown as well as a two-barred apostolic cross, the same way as the founder of the Kingdom of Hungary, St. Stephen did in his sleep according to a legend. The crescent-shaped monument was built in Eclectic style. The semi-circular arcades of the monument on the left and right-hand side each hold bronze statues of seven outstanding personalities of Hungarian history. It is one of the most important photo venue in the Hungarian capital, do not miss it. GELLÉRT HILL AND THE CITADEL. The Gellért Hill is the capital’s popular excursion place. All the Hungarian people from all over the country visit his place, as well as the foreign tourists. The Citadel can also be found here. It used to be a fortress, which was erected in 1854 by the Habsburg emperors after overcoming the Hungarian army in the revolution of 1848-49. In the old and new photos of Budapest, you can see all the time this Citadel building, so popular. A unique Budapest panorama, which is part of the world heritage, can be also enjoyed here. Other sights on the hill: the sculpture of the bishop St. Gellért, the St. Gellért Cliff Church and the Liberty Statue. ■

The city of your dreams in the Cserehát region: VÉCSECITY Although not all Hungarians are aware of this, each and every square inch of Hungary from Hegyeshalom to Hidasnemeti, and from Szob to Roszke is theirs, and each square inch requires the same love, care, and affection. Its beauty should be looked after, and not left abandoned. Why, this approach is not a utopian dream. From Austria to Belgium and from Switzerland to Sweden numerous European examples may be attractive and worth following, to make sure that Hungary becomes a better place to live in, a country increasingly liked by the outside world. Indeed, with the revealing of forgotten inner values may the cultural competence merely characterising small sporadic regions of the country today be expanded. There are some, who attempt to explore and improve those areas once shown as blank spots in our childhood maps (although they should rather be called dark areas in today’s Hungary), and they are actually aiming at reviving the old values of cultural history. With 800 to 900 inhabitants, Hernadvecse was a village associated with a large estate in the Hernad valley, on the southern slopes of the Cserehat hills in the shade of the Zemplen hills, almost half-way between the cities of Miskolc and Kosice. With the abolishing of the large estate, this settlement was trapped by history, and under the negative impacts of social changes it has recently become the second poorest settlement in Hungary, while its natural endowments and industrial circumstances did not change at all. There is a Hungarian proverb, which says ‘Any damage caused by people may only be repaired by people’. Is it true? May the abatements be removed from the coat of arms of a country? Questions, which need answers. Will they be answered? Built in 1790, the listed neo-Baroque building of the Count Vecsey – Baron Sardagna mansion was in ruins and showed signs of hardship, deterioration and neglect in 2007. Which of these traits was needed by someone to buy this building, unwanted and unloved by anyone else? The decision and the underlying reasons are explained by Dr Tibor Takacs and his wife Lidija Takacs Plibersek (from Debrecen), the buyers of the castle and the surrounding park. The primary incentives were the architectural challenges of saving a beautiful building, protecting the existing values, and then adapting the building to a new function which caters for survival and further existence. This is how Hotel Vecsecity, ‘the city in a castle’ was established. This is indeed a beautifully implemented fourstar superior quality hotel, where the past meets the present, and where from the world of antique furniture and museum pieces radiating the flair of several centuries, a straight path leads to a well-matched present, which actually points to a vibrant future. The environs of the hotel are extremely rich in historical and natural values from the Castle of Fuzer to the Zemplen hills, and from Kosice to Aggtelek.
