Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild
Вилла Эфрусси де Ротшильд расположена на юге Франции на Лазурном берегу в городе Сен-Жан-Кап-Ферра. Она была спроектирована и построена французским архитектором Аароном Мессиахом с 1905 по 1912 годы по заказу баронессы Беатрисы Ротшильд (1864-1934). Барон Морис де Эфрусси, взяв в жены Беатрис, члена семьи банкира Ротшильда, построил для нее виллу розового цвета на мысе Кар Ферра с удивительной панорамой на Средиземное море. Баронесса украсила виллу антикварной мебелью, работами известных художников на стенах, мастерские работы знакомых скульпторов нашли место в громадных по размерам помещениях виллы, коллекция редкого фарфора разместилась в шкафах или в одном из садов. Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild is a French seaside villa located at Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat on the French Riviera. The villa was designed by the French architect Aaron Messiah, and constructed between 1905 and 1912 by Baroness Béatrice de Rothschild (1864–1934). A member of the Rothschild banking family and the wife of the banker Baron Maurice de Ephrussi, Béatrice de Rothschild built her rose-colored villa on a promontory on the isthmus of Cap Ferrat overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The Baroness filled the mansion with antique furniture, Old Master paintings, sculptures, objets d’art, and assembled an extensive collection of rare porcelain. The gardens are classified by the French Ministry of Culture as one of the Notable Gardens of France. On her death in 1934, the Baroness donated the property and its collections to the Académie des Beaux Arts division of the Institut de France and it is now open to the public. The villa is surrounded by nine gardens, each on a different theme: Florentine, Spanish, Garden à la française, exotic, a stone garden, a Japanese garden, a rose garden, Provençal and a garden de Sèvres. They were created between 1905 and 1912 under the direction of landscape architect Achille Duchêne. The garden was conceived in the form of a ship, to be viewed from the loggia of the house, which was like the bridge of a vessel, with the sea visible on all sides. It was inspired by voyage she made on the liner Île de France, and the villa was given that name. The thirty gardeners who maintained the garden were dressed as sailors, with berets with red pom poms. The Garden à la française is the largest garden, and occupies the area behind the villa. Систему водоснабжения создали так, что из главного сада были проведены каналы в сады, расположенные ниже уровнем, тем самым организовав их орошение. Испанский сад, благодаря фонтанам и душистым растениям представляет собой райский уголок, где не ощущается зной юга. Во флорентийском саду расположена флорентийская лестница, в которую встроен каменный искусственный грот с мраморной статуей юноши. Каменный сад включает в себя элементы архитектурных древностей, принадлежавших древним, средневековым городам и выставленных здесь на память. В японском саду расположен деревянный чайный домик с маленьким мостиком и куполовидные фонари. И конечно, здесь присутствуют бонзаи. В розарии, в первую очередь, доминируют цветы розового цвета, так как это был любимый цвет баронессы. В провансальском саду можем заметить знакомые местному населению растения и конечно, лаванду. mal French garden and topiaries. Beyond the terrace is a park with palm trees and a long basin, ornamented with fountains, statues, and basins with water lilies and other aquatic plants. On the far end of the park is a hill covered with cypress trees, surrounding a replica garden of the temple of Love at the Grand Trianon palace. The slope below temple has a cascade of water in the form of a stairway, which feeds into the large basin. A stairway from the French garden descends to the circle of gardens on the lower level. The Spanish garden features a shaded courtyard and fountain, with aromatic plants, Catalanamphorae, and a gallo-roman bench. The Florentine garden, facing the rade of Villefranche, has a grand stairway, an artificial grotto, and an ephebe of marble. Beyond the Florentine garden is the lapidary, or stone garden, with an assortment of gargoyles, columns, and other architectural elements from ancient and medieval buildings. the Japanese garden has a wooden pavilion, a bridge, and lanterns. The exotic garden features giant cactus and other rare plants. A rose garden with a statue surrounded by columns adjoins it, with pink, the favorite color of the owner, the predominant color. On the east side of the villa is a garden of native plants of Provence and a garden with decorations of sevres porcelain. Today, France ranks 8th among nations that play this sport. According to the French Golf Federation, golf has been aracting increasing numbers of younger players since 2008. Historically, the French Riviera was the place to go for golf. One of its finest golf courses, the Old Course in Mandelieu-La Napoule, was founded in 1891, opening a page of history that continues to be written today. All year round, the French Riviera’s golf courses delight players - each shaped by its own history, but open closely linked to that of the French Riviera itself. The Monaco Grand Prix is a Formula-1 motor race held each year on the Circuit de Monaco. Run since 1929, it is widely considered to be one of the most important and prestigious automobile races in the world, alongside the Indianapolis 500, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The circuit has been called „an exceptional location of glamour and prestige.” The race is held on a narrow course laid out in the streets of Monaco, with many elevation changes and tight corners as well as a tunnel, making it one of the most demanding tracks in Formula-1. In spite of the relatively low average speeds, it is a dangerous place to race. It is the only Grand Prix that does not adhere to the FIA’s mandated 305 kilometres minimum race distance. The Circuit de Monaco consists of the city streets of Monte Carlo and La Condamine, which includes the famous harbour. It is unique in having been held on the same circuit every time it has been run over such a long period. The race circuit has many elevation changes, tight corners, and a narrow course that makes it one of the most demanding tracks in Formula-1 racing. As of 2010, two drivers have crashed and ended up in the harbour, the most famous being Alberto Ascari in1955. Despite the fact that the course has had minor changes several times during its history, it is still considered the ultimate test of driving skills in Formula-1, and if it were not already an existing Grand Prix, it would not be permitted to be added to the schedule for safety reasons. Triple Formula-1 champion Nelson Piquet was fond of saying that racing at Monaco was „like trying to cycle round your living room”, but added that „a win here was worth two anywhere else”. Notably, the course includes a tunnel. The contrast of daylight and gloom when entering/exiting the tunnel presents „challenges not faced elsewhere”, as the drivers have to „adjust their vision as they emerge from the tunnel at the fastest point of the track and brake for the chicane in the daylight.”. The fastest-ever lap was set by Kimi Räikkönen in qualifying for the 2006 Grand Prix, at 1m 13.532 sec. ■

For the globe trotters we suggest as the next destination: Peru. The best to go to the Andean region from April, to September, the days are dry, sunny and warm. Due to the altitudde, nights are cold all year round. January and February are the wettest months. Lima and the coast has a dry warm climate every seasons. Lima lies on the Pacific coast and offers some of Peru’s finest museums and monuments, as well as its best cuisine and nightlife. Highlights include the Plaza de Armas, a Unesco World Heritage Site around which stand the Government Palace, Cathedral and Town Hall, the city’s many colonial mansions and the San Francisco Church. Do not forget to taste here Peru’s famous pisco sour. From Lima it is suggested to fly to Cusco. The Sacred Valley is an area of outstanding natural beauty set against a backdrop of the Andes Mountains, the fertile Urubamba Valley is surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks. For the more actively minded the region is full of sites of great cultural and historical interest such as traditional villages, Indian markets and Inca sites. From your Sacred Valley hotel lets transfered by train to Aguas Calientes, and from here you can be transfered by shared bus to Machu Picchu. The spectacular Inca citadel of Machu Picchu is situated at an altitude of 2380 metres on a saddle between two mountain peaks, and set against a dramatic backdrop of cloud forest covered mountains. To the south of the ruins is the Machu Picchu mountain (Old Peak) after which the citadel was named, while towering over the site is Huayna Picchu (Young Peak). It lay hidden from the world until its rediscovery by the American explorer Hiram Bingham in 1911. The site consists of more than 200 buildings, as well as baths, temples, altars and houses constructed in terraces and connected by stairways carved from solid rock.

Although not all Hungarians are aware of this, each and every square inch of Hungary from Hegyeshalom to Hidasnemeti, and from Szob to Roszke is theirs, and each square inch requires the same love, care, and affection. Its beauty should be looked after, and not left abandoned. Why, this approach is not a utopian dream. From Austria to Belgium and from Switzerland to Sweden numerous European examples may be attractive and worth following, to make sure that Hungary becomes a better place to live in, a country increasingly liked by the outside world. Indeed, with the revealing of forgotten inner values may the cultural competence merely characterising small sporadic regions of the country today be expanded. There are some, who attempt to explore and improve those areas once shown as blank spots in our childhood maps (although they should rather be called dark areas in today’s Hungary), and they are actually aiming at reviving the old values of cultural history. With 800 to 900 inhabitants, Hernadvecse was a village associated with a large estate in the Hernad valley, on the southern slopes of the Cserehat hills in the shade of the Zemplen hills, almost half-way between the cities of Miskolc and Kosice. With the abolishing of the large estate, this settlement was trapped by history, and under the negative impacts of social changes it has recently become the second poorest settlement in Hungary, while its natural endowments and industrial circumstances did not change at all. There is a Hungarian proverb, which says ‘Any damage caused by people may only be repaired by people’. Is it true? May the abatements be removed from the coat of arms of a country? Built in 1790, the listed neo-Baroque building of the Count Vecsey – Baron Sardagna mansion was in ruins and showed signs of hardship, deterioration and neglect in 2007.
