The Autumn is here, new opportunities open to get to know the city again, and while I walked with one of my old friends in the completely renovated Castle Garden (today’s Lánchíd Street), I realized astonished it will become the new Vaci Street in 2018. Cosy lights, cobblestone Danube, Chain Bridge characterize this idyllic setting. There are restaurants and cafés, but the Imperial Cream & Sweet stands out like a small diamond. This tiny shop immediately reflects peculiarity. Selection of coffee specialties with an up-to-date design, hot chocolate for lovers, handcrafted ice cream rolls for warmer days, and an exclusive packaging of sweets for special occasions completes the harmony. But the reason I entered the shop were the beautiful boxes. Dozens of handmade, sweet wonders are waiting for the buyer to take them home and gift an everlasting memory to their loved ones. There are just about infinite assortment options for the boxes, Nutella, Smarties, Oreo, Raffaello, Toblerone, Ferrero Rocher, Kinder, Bounty ... Why do I write about it? A z angol nyílt golfbajnokság
The Open Championship
A golf egyik legnagyobb ünnepe az angol nyílt golfbajnokság, amelyet idén a Royal Birkdale golfklubban rendeztek. A Jet Set golf és luxuséletmód magazin főszerkesztőjeként részt vehettem ezen a fantasztikus eseményen, s bár a nyár közepén rendezték a viadalt, még mindig ennek a lázában égek. Tízezrek zarándokoltak ki a Liverpooltól 45 percnyi autóútra lévő pályára, s én a zárónapon együtt mozogtam a tömeggel a különböző szakaszokon, hogy minél több világsztárt láthassak. A szervezés lenyűgöző volt, amint elhaladt egy két főből álló flight, azonnal megnyitották a fairway-t, s keresztbe át lehetett menni, hogy elérjük a nekünk tetsző újabb lyukat. Nem egyszer előfordult, hogy egy méterre tőlem ütöttek a versenyzők, volt módom kielemezni a mozdulataikat. Néha még a lelátókra is feljutottam, bár ez nem volt könnyű, hiszen olyan sokan szerették volna velem együtt ülve bámulni a világsztárok végjátékát egy-egy greennél. Lenyűgözött a szurkolói „falu” is, ahol a VIP sátrakat állították fel, meg a kávézókat, éttermeket, üzleteket üzemeltették. A Royal Birkdale Pro Shopja olyan óriási volt, mint egy nagyáruház – dugig emberekkel, s méregdrága The Open emblémás termékekkel. Több mint egy órát böngésztem itt, hogy mit vegyek emlékbe. A Master Card klubjában külön kényeztettek, megkóstolhattam a legendás golfos, Arnold Palmer dobozos üdítőjét, amely jeges tea és limonádé keveréke. Fotózkodhattam itt Palmer Claret Kupájával is, amelyet egy szép vitrinben állítottak ki, s kaptam ajándékba The Open feliratú labdákat, amelyekkel aligha fogok játszani, mert félek, hogy valamelyik pályán beütöm majd azokat a tóba, vagy az erdőbe. Jordan Speithnek a drámai küzdelmét a vasárnapi záróeseményen az utolsó 5 szakaszon a Champagne bárban néztem végig, mert ekkor zuhogott az eső, s a tévén kényelmesebb volt követni a küzdelmet Spieth és Kuchar között. Az alkalomhoz illően francia rozé champagne-t ittunk alkalmi ír ismerőseimmel, s közben csodáltuk a texasi hőst, aki nem vesztette el a lélekjelenlétét a legnehezebb szituációban sem a 13. szakaszon, amelyről bővebben írok a helyszíni riportomban. Életem egyik legnagyobb élménye volt a 2017. évi The Open, s Spieth győzelme.
One of the major events in golf is The Open, which was held at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club this year. As the editor in chief of Jet Set golf and luxury lifestyle magazine, I could attend this fantastic event. Although, it was organized mid-summer, I`m still fired up. Tens of thousands of people took off to the course 45 minutes from Liverpool. On the closing day, I moved along with the crowd to see the stars. The organization was impressive, as soon as a two-person flight passed, they opened the fairway to let us cross it and move to the next hole we choose. Not only once, the players were striking just a rock throw away from me, so I could analyse their technique. Once or twice I even had the opportunity to sit on the stands, though it wasn`t easy to get there as so many people wanted to stare at the world famous stars on the green. The Spectator Village was also fantastic, where VIP tents were set up by the patrons of The Open, cafes, restaurants and shops were operating. The Royal Birkdale Shop was as huge as a shopping court, stuffed with people and costly products with The Open logo. I was further-more spoiled at the Master Card club, and tasted the soft drink of the legendary golf player Arnold Palmer, which is a mix of iced tea and lemonade. I was posing for photographs with Palmer Claret`s Jug, that was displayed in a nice cabinet. I got The Open marked golf balls as a gift, which I most likely won`t use as I`m too afraid to lose it the woods or hit them in the lake. I watched Jordan Speith`s dramatic struggle from the Champagne bar on Sunday on the closing event for the last 5 holes, as it was heavily raining, and it was more comfortable to watch the battle of Speith and Kuchar on the TV. To suite the occasion, we had French Rose Champagne with my casual Irish friends, while we admired the Texan hero, who did not lose composure in the most demanding situation on hole 13th, which I write more about in my onsite report. The Open 2017 and watching Spieth’s victory, was one of the greatest experiences of my life.

A 146. Angol Nyílt Golfbajnokságot a Royal Birkdale klubban rendezték, ahol 2008-ban játszottak legutóbb a díszes trófeáért a sportág legjobbjai. A klubot 1889-ben alapították, s az első Angol Nyílt Golfbajnokságot 1954-ben rendezték itt, azok után, hogy 1922-ben teljesen átalakították a pályát. Tulajdonképpen a pálya már 1935-ben megfelelt a The Open sztenderdjének, de a világháború közbeszólt, s így csak sok évvel később került sor itt az első viadalra. A Royal Birkdale számít manapság az egyik leginkább elfogadott The Open helyszínnek a Royal Lytham klubbal együtt – a St. Andrews után. A Royal Birkdale klub Southport városában található a tengerparton. Kifejezetten népszerű üdülőhely ez a település, amelynek más híres golfpályái is vannak, ilyen például a Southport & 8 • 2017 Ő sz /Autumn
The 146th British Open is played out at Royal Birkdale. The tournament returned to Birkdale for the first time since 2008. Having hosted its first Open in 1954, the course which was first established in 1889 went through an extensive redesign in 1922. Royal Birkdale was brought up to Open standard in 1935 and due to the war, the course had to wait for its Open debut until 1954. Since first hosting The Open, the course has been (alongside Royal Lytham) the most regular venue for the Championship other than St Andrews. Royal Birkdale Golf Club is located in the town of Southport, a large seaside town in Merseyside. The town is one of The UK’s most popular seaside town’s in the country extrmely popular in the summertime. Royal Birkdale is not the only well known

Spieth -12-es eredménnyel zárta a The Open 2017 küzdelmeit, míg a második helyen a Ryder Kupa csapattagja, Matt Kuchar végzett -9-es eredménnyel, aki amúgy a 14. szakasznál még vezetett. Spiethben megvan az X faktor. Most már 3 nagy tornagyőzelmet aratott a 24 éves kora előtt. A Royal Birkdalen zajló viadal zárónapjai drámaian alakult. -11es állással kezdett Speith, míg -8-cal Kuchar, s a texasi golfos 4 lyukon háromszor bogeyt ütött, ami egyben azt is jelentette, hogy elszállt az előnye. A legérdekesebb a 13 lyuk megjátszása volt az egész verseny során. Spieth az első ütését beküldte a susnyásba, a labdája egy domboldalon landolt, mélyen a fűben, megjátszhatatlan volt. A versenyző odakérette magához a bírót, s úgy döntött, hogy egy büntetőpontért felveszi a labdáját, s hátraviszi, amennyire csak akarja. Nagyon okosan azt a döntést hozta, hogy a legjobb lenne a gyakorlóhelyről ütnie, ami 230 méterrel hátrébb volt, mint

From the championship markers the course measures in excess of 7100 yards to a stern par of 70. Royal Birkdale is only 45 minutes away from Liverpool and 1 hour away from Manchester. The neartest airport is Liverpool John Lennon Airport again only a 45 minutes drive. If you are travelling via train, there are services running every 15 minutes from Liverpool to Southport, so the golf club is very easily accessible. The Texas (USA) golfer, Jordan Spieth was 23 years and 362 days old, when he became the youngest winner of the Claret Jug at 2017 July 23rd. - since legend Seve Ballesteros in 1979. At the Royal Birkdale Golf Club he finished The Open 2017 with -12 result and the second was his Ryder Cup team-mate, Matt Kuchar with -9, who led against him at the 14th tee. Spieth truly has the X factor. He has won three different Majors before he turns 24. The final day of The Open 2017 was dramatic. Spieth started with -11 and Kuchar with -8. Within four holes Spieth had bogeyed three times and his lead has evaporated. The most interesting part of the championship was the 13th hole. Spieth carved his drive right into the dunes. Spieth called for the official with his group and decided to take a one shot penalty for an unplayable lie under the rule28B. Spieth was
allowed to pick up his ball and take it back as far as he wanted and drop it on the line with the flag. He cleverly realised the best place to drop and get a decent lie was on the practice ground was behind him. It would mean playing his third shot from almost 230 metres back but that was a better option then drropping it back into the long grass. This is where it got even more complicated and involved another rule, relating to his line of sights – due to the fact that there were now equipement manufacturers trucks in the way. Spieth located the exact spot to drop directly between the two lorries. Now, under rule 24-2 he was entitled to get further full releif and drop his ball again, where the trucks would not obstruct his line to the flag. He brilliantly smashed his third shot back over the dunes and fanes to just short of the green. His fourth shot was a deft chip over a bunker which left a 2,5 metres putt, which he holed to card the bogey five. In all, it took 30 minutes to play the hole. After this drama Spieth went on a rampage, five under par for the next four holes and finally won The Open 2017. 2017 Ő sz /Autumn •

Olasz és bolgár bajnokok A 39. OTP Bank Magyar Amatőr Nyílt Golf Bajnokság végeredménye.
Tizenhárom ország 114 versenyzője vett részt a 39. OTP Bank Magyar Amatőr Nyílt Golf Bajnokságon, melynek augusztus 11-13. között a Pannonia Golf & Country Club adott otthont. A rendkívül erős mezőny közel fele külföldről érkezett. A három forduló során az időjárás alaposan próbára tette a játékosok felkészültségét, rekkenő hőséggel, orkánerejű széllel és esővel is meg kellett birkózniuk. A bolgár Vladislav Marinov és az olasz Caterina Tatti nyerte a bajnokságot. Nagy Klára a harmadik helyet szerezte meg, a legjobb bruttó hazai eredményt Závaczki Bálint 225 (75,80,72) érte el, aki a férfiak mezőnyében az ötödik helyen végzett. A díjakat a Magyar Golf Szövetség elnöke, dr. Szivek Norbert és főtitkára, Makszin Áron adta át a győzteseknek. ■

A nézők nem hittek a szemüknek, mert sikerült neki pár méterre a green elé ütni, ahonnan átemelte a labdáját a homokcsapda felett, majd remekül gurított 2,5 méterről, s végül plusz egy ütéssel fejezte be a lyukat. 30 perc volt szükség ennek az egy szakasznak a lejátszására. Hihetetlen, de igaz, hogy a következő négy lyukon -5 ütést ért el az amerikai játékos, s ezzel megnyerte a 2017. évi The Opent. Miután Spieth átvette a Claret Kupát és az 1,8 millió dolláros csekket a győzelméért, így nyilatkozott: „Elképesztő élmény, hogy sikerült a győzelem, s felkerült a nevem a kupára. Ez volt az álmom, s most a következő célom az, hogy megcsináljam a Grand Slamet, s begyűjtsem az idei negyedik major tornagyőzelmemet is Quail Hollow-ban a USPGA viadalon.” A korábbi világelső, a 28 éves észak-írországi Rory McIllroy csak árnyéka volt önmagának a Royal Birkdale pályán. Három évvel ezelőtt két major tornagyőzelmet is aratott egymás után, most azonban csak -5-ös eredménnyel zárta az angol nyílt bajnokságot, ami a negyedik helyhez volt elég, a harmadik a kínai Haotong Li lett -6 ponttal. A USPGA bajnokságot 2017. augusztus 7-13. között rendezték meg, s Jordan Spieth eredménye nem volt említésre méltó. A 24 éves amerikai Justin Thomas győzött, aki a 4. napon 8 birdie-t ütött, s így 2 ütéssel megelőzte társait az idei utolsó grand slam tornán, mögötte holtversenyben Patrick Reed, Francesco Molinari, Louis Oosthuizen végzett a második helyen. ■ 10 • 2017 Ő sz /Autumn

My goal now is to try and complete a carreer Slam at Quail Hollow USPGA Championships.” Rory McIlroy the former world No1 ranked 28 years old golfer from Northern Ireland was only a shadow of his former self during The Open 2017. Three years ago he won two of his major titles, but now, he finished with -5 result just at the 4th place, the third, Haotong Li (China) finished his game with -6 result. The USPGA was held from 7 to 13. August 2017. and Jordan Spieth result was not enough good to mention. Justin Thomas became the winner of the 99th USPGA Championship at Quail Hollow. The 24-year old American reached eight-under par with a closing 68 to claim the year’s fourth and final Grand Slam title by two shots. Three players – Patrick Reed, Francesco Molinari, Louis Oosthuizen – tied for second place. ■
Italian and Bulgarian Champions 39th OTP Bank Hungarian Amateur Open Golf Championship final results.
Thirteen countries and 114 competitors participated in the 39th OTP Bank Hungarian Amateur Open Golf Championship, hosted by the Pannonia Golf & Country Club 11-13 August. Nearly half of the extremely strong field came from abroad. During the three rounds, the weather had thoroughly tested the players' skills, with fierce heat and orchestral wind and rain. Bulgarian Vladislav Marinov and Italian Caterina Tatti won the championship. Klára Nagy scored third place, Bálint Závaczki 225 (75,80,72) achieved the best national gross result, who finished fifth in the men's field. The awards were given by the President of the Hungarian Golf Association, dr. Norbert Szivek and his general secretary, Áron Makszin, handed over the winners. ■ 2017 Ő sz /Autumn • 11

Chelsea Pezzola a Michigan egyetem korábbi golfosa volt, akit nemrégiben felkapott a Playboy és a Maxim magazin Amerikában. Chelsea Pezzolának 26 000 követője van az Instagrammon, s mindezt csak 300 poszttal érte el. Pezzola közben komoly golf karriert épít, tavaly például indulási jogot kapott az Omega Dubai női Masters viadalon. Ennek kapcsán, az ismert riporter Andrew Tursky interjút is készített vele, kíváncsivá vált, hogy ez a nagyfokú média figyelem milyen hatással van és lesz a golfozására? ►– Mikor kezdett sportolni, s mikor érezte azt, hogy beléphet a profik világába? ►– Öt éves koromban volt először ütő a kezemben. Chelsea Pezzola, a former University of Michigan golfer who recently caught the attention of Playboy and Maxim and has amassed 26 000 followers on Instagram with just 300 posts, is following in Spiranac’s footsteps. Pezzola is teeing it up at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters last year, and Andrew Tursky caught up with her to discuss what’s in her bag, her newly found media attention and the benefits of social media in growing the game. ►– When did you start playing golf, and when did you begin realizing you could play professionally? ►– I actually started playing golf when I was 5. My step dad got me into the game, and I started on a little par-3 course in Yardley, Pennsylvania. As I grew older, I started getting involved in more junior golf programs, and eventually my parents uprooted and we moved to Bradenton, Florida, where I went to IMG Academies. During that time I was competing against some of the world’s greatest players, from all around the world… that’s kind of when I realized that this is not only my passion and my love, but something I wanted to do career wise. Going through college, I had a

Ennek érdekében nagyon keményen dolgozom. Ez az álmom 5 éves korom óta. Másik célom a női golf népszerűsítése, s ennek érdekében használom fel a közösségi médiumokat. Segít lebontani a falakat, mert vannak a golfjátékkal kapcsolatban ilyenek. Bízom benne, hogy egyre több nőt, sőt férfit is be tudok vonzani a személyiségemen keresztül a sportágba. Megmutatom mindenkinek, hogy milyen különleges körülmények között és környezetben lehet golfozni, ha kell, tanítok is, s bebizonyítom, hogy a golf élvezet. ►– Gondolja, hogy modellt ad a fiatal lányoknak? S ha igen, akkor tulajdonképpen mi is az üzenete? ►– Megpróbálok olyan befolyásos egyéniséggé válni számukra, aki képes rá, hogy megmutassa a különböző utakat, hogyan lehet egyre magasabbra jutni a golf világában. Hiszek abban, hogy mindenkiben van valami különlegesség, amit fel tud használni, csak rá kell jönni az alanyoknak, hogy mi az, s tudatosan alapozni kell erre vagy ezekre az álmok megvalósítása érdekében. Az a tanácsom, hogy mindenki legyen őszinte saját magával és soha ne adja fel a küzdelmeit. ►– Az utóbbi időben akadtak olyan golfosok, akik modellként „felrobbantották” az Instagramot. Ilyen volt például Paige Spieranac is. Ő adott valami bátorítást önnek? ►– Igen, természetesen. Felhívta a figyelmet a női golfra, ami korábban nem történt meg soha. Nagyon tisztelem azért, amit tett. Sok kritikát kapott, de ez nem számít, tudom, hogy keményen dolgozik. Biztos vagyok benne, hogy csakúgy, mint az én esetemben, más fiatal lányok is kapnak ösztönzést a golfra általa. Elhiteti mindenkivel, hogy van az az út, amin végig lehet menni, s el lehet jutni a csúcsra. ■
really strong focus, and I was focused on my schooling and my academics. ►– You don’t hide your love of beauty and fashion on social media. What are your ultimate goals in professional golf, and how is social media helping you achieve those goals? ►– I think, well, definitely my main goal is to make it to the LPGA, obviously. I’m working really hard to do that. It’s been my dream since I was 5 years old to be out there on the LPGA. At the end of the day, my other goal is to grow the game of women’s golf, and I think that’s where social media comes into play. It helps break down the walls and that exterior barrier of the intimidation of golf, and getting other females involved — and even males involved — via social media, showing them what I’m doing to train and showing them how much fun golf can be and the different environments you can take golf into. Just getting more people involved and growing the game, that’s where social media comes in for me. ►– Do you see yourself as a role model for young girls? And if so, what’s your message to them? ►– I try to look at myself as more of an influencer, to really help them get involved and show them the different avenues that they can take to really make it to the next stages. I’m a big believer in everyone brings something unique to the table, and I think you just have to find what that is and embrace it and follow your dreams. My advice to anybody is to be true to themselves and never give up. ►– In the last few years, there’s been a wave of Instagram models making a splash in professional golf. Does it give you encouragement that if golfers like Paige Spiranac can do it, you can too? ►– Yea definitely. It just shows that there are other avenues. It brings attention to women’s golf, and that’s something golf hasn’t had in the past years as much. I think that’s what she really did and I admire her for that. I admire her for her hard work and dedication, despite all the hate, and criticism that she’s gotten. And it gives inspiration not only to me, but to other young females that are really trying to get involved. And it shows them ways they can get involved, and unique things they can do and ways to kind of show their journey. Like I said, everybody has their own unique path that they’re trying to take, and just by embracing that like Paige has, it shows they can really do it. ■ 2017 Ő sz /Autumn • 15

Sophie Horn has been golfing, she said, for as long as she can remember. She was crowned Norfolk County Champion three years in a row, and at the age of 15, won the Under-21 title. She is also the winner of the Midlands Championship, and she went on to become Champion of Champions in 2001. Her golf hero is Tiger Woods. ►– He completely changed the game and watching him play truly inspired me to get out there and improve. In 2005, Sophie Horn became The Golf Nurse for “Golf Punk Magazine,” in which she contributed articles and advice. She said about 70% of her fans are in the United States, and she hopes to make golf more accessible and more fun. In 2007, Sophie Horn was a co-presenter for “Show Me The Golf” for Setanta, as well as “The Golf Show Pilot” for Sky Sports Online. Aside from golfing, Sophie Horn is also a personal trainer and was a finalist in the “Maximuscle Body of 2009” competition. She has also appeared in “Sport Magazine” and “Sports Illustrated.” After her appearance in “Sports Illustrated,” she became the most searched name on Google for two days. Több mint 6 millió ír vándorolt ki Amerikába, Új-Zélandra, Ausztráliába és Kanadába a nagy éhínség idején, és közülük több mint 3 millióan Cobh-ból indultak. A Cobh Heritage Centre pontosan bemutatja ennek a történetét. A múzeum előtt áll Annie Moore és két

More than 6 million Irish migrated to America, New Zealand, Australia and Canada during the Great Hunger, and more than 3 million of them from Cobh. The Cobh Heritage Center accurately presents this story. Annie Moore and her two-brother’s statue stands front of the building. They were the first successful American emigrants. The beauty of the city is given by the colorful houses on the shore and the mountain up the road. You can find numerous hotels, restaurants and pubs in the crowded, colorful city. Mi jut eszébe Írországról? Guinness sör, whiskey, eső, birkák? Ennél azért a zöld sziget sokkal többet tartogat. Itt van például Cork (Cobh). Az ország déli részén fekvő, második legnagyobb ír város könnyen elérhető országúton Dublinból, csak 200 km-re van, s meseszép.
Cork híres kikötője Cobh, ez az a hely, amelyben leginkább gyönyörködhet, népszerűségét mély vizének köszönheti, mely alkalmassá teszi kikötőjét a hatalmas tengerjáróhajók kikötésére. Az 1912-ben az észak-írországi Belfastban épített Titanic is itt, Cobhban vert horgonyt utoljára – elsüllyedése előtt. Ez volt tehát az utolsó állomása, amikor is 123 ír utas csatlakozott a fedélzeten tartózkodókhoz, és így indult az elsüllyeszthetetlennek hitt Titanic 2207 fővel első és egyben utolsó útjára. Itt alakult meg egyébként a világ első yacht klubja is, 1720-ban, Royal Cork Yacht Club néven. Az eredetileg Queenstownnak nevezett várost 1922-ben nevezték át, ekkortól viseli a Cobh nevet. What pops in to your mind when I say Ireland? Guinness beer, whiskey, rain, sheep? The Emerald Isle has a lot more to offer than this. Here is Cork (Cobh) for example. The second largest Irish city in the southern part of the country, easily approachable by car from Dublin, it`s only a 200-km distance, and it`s magnificent. Cork`s famous port, Cobh might be the most amusing in the city. This harbour is popular because of its deep water, which makes it suitable to dock huge ocean-liners. In 1912, the Belfast built Titanic anchored here for the last time before it sank. This was the last stop for the so believed unsinkable ship, where 123 Irish passengers boarded, and it sailed away with 2207 people for its first and last journey. The city`s name was originally Queenstown, but renamed for Cobh in 1922. Lucky that happened, so nobody confuses it with Queenstown, New Zealand. The port-town has many attractions. Here to be found one of Irelands largest buildings, the St Coleman`s Cathedral, built on a

Ennek ellenére megéri ellátogatni, a sziklafalak menti séta még így is óriási élményt nyújt. A távcső mindig jó szolgálatot tesz. Láthatjuk ezzel a sziklafalakba fészkelő sirályokat, tengerből felbukkanó fókákat és bármikor tiszteletét teheti egy bálna is. Tömegek érkeznek az év minden szakában a Blarney-kastélyhoz, ami a környéken az egyik kötelező látnivaló. A 15. századi várat az ország egyik legnagyobb törzsfőnöke építtette és már több száz éve vonzza a látogatókat. A kastély egy része romos állapotban van, néhány terme azonban nyitva áll a látogatók előtt. A gyönyörű látkép és főként a Blarney-kő azonban a világ minden tájáról ren-

The giant garden of the mansion includes natural rock formations, arboretum and a special garden full of poisonous plants. Everyone enters here at their own risk, as it`s full of plants from all over the world that can cause lethal poisoning, so you should not touch them. Plants containing toxic substances have been used as medicine for centuries, as the garden’s motto says: “It will either kill you or cure you!” ■

Történelmi utcáin sétálva a látogató lépten-nyomon a skót történelem olyan nagy alakjainak emlékeivel találkozhat, mint Stuart Mária vagy Robert Louis Stevenson. A Skót parlament is kötelező látványosság, amely tízszeresébe került, mint eredetileg tervezték, nem kirívó és nem is kiemelkedő, belesimul a környezetébe, mégis minden ízében különleges. Edinburghban van az Elephant House kávézó (30-34 Candlemaker Row), ahol a majdani világsikerről mit sem sejtő J. K. Rowling papírra vetette a Harry Potter első részét... A könyvet tizenkét kiadónak küldte el, melyek mind elutasították a kéziratot. Egy évvel később a Bloomsbury kiadó azonban megvette – mert az elnök nyolcéves lánya rátalált az apja íróasztalán az első fejezetre, és elolvasva követelte a többit... Edinburgh Castle is part of the World Heritage. The castle protected many Scottish rulers, including Saint Margaret of Hungary who died here in 1093, and Mary, the Queen of the Scots, who gave birth to her son, later known as King James VI. The Royal Mile descends from the Castle, with smaller side streets running steeply from the hillside in a fuzzy pattern. Markets and historic buildings, including the St. Giles Cathedral to be found in this area. Walking on its historic streets, the visitor can trace the memories of such great figures in Scottish history as Mary Stuart or Robert Louis Stevenson. The Scottish Parliament is a must-see spectacle. Built for ten times the price originally intended, not flamboyant and not prominent, mingles with its surroundings, yet special by all means. The sitting room is just like a modern and bright interior of a church. It doesn`t represents confrontation, but cooperation, characterized by bulky beams, that resembles sailboat masts, curved tables and small detailed figurative motives. The building complex itself is heavily divided, not just a closed block. Yet, it suggests safe protection as once Scotland’s castles. The Scottish National Museum building resembles a castle, within visitors can learn about Scottish history. The castle built on the basilica of Castle Rock, Edinburgh, was perfectly placed to defend itself against the many conquest efforts that threatened the Roman times until the middle of the 18th century. In the 12th century another building stood where the castle is today, St Margaret Chapel, Edinburgh’s oldest building. Glasgow mintegy hatszázezres nagyváros, de vonzáskörzetével együtt 1,7 milliós. Különös területen tartja a csúcsot: a 10 legsötétebb, pontosabban napsütéses órákban a világ legszegényebb városainak listáját vezeti. Mindössze 1203 órán át süt a nap egy évben. Depresszió-gyanús hely ez a sötétség miatt. Miért is olyan népszerű akkor Glasgow? Hisz rengeteget esik az eső, fúj a szél, a nyár is hűvös. Európa egyik leglátogatottabb városa, évente több mint 2 millió turista keresi fel. Ezt a titkot kutatta e sorok írója is személyesen 2017 nyarán a városban. Skócia legnépesebb települése hatalmas változáson ment keresztül az elmúlt 20 évben. Igazi, modern, kozmopolita város lett. Itt minden megtalálható egy helyen, ami a turistának kell: múzeumok, galériák, történelmi emlékek, menő üzletek, hangulatos éttermek és – utoljára, de nem utolsósorban – vibráló éjszakai élet. A városnézést általában mindenki a – méltán híres – St. Mungo-katedrálisnál kezdi, majd a Városházánál folytatja. Glasgow has about six hundred thousand inhabitants, if including its agglomeration, 1.7 million. It holds the first place of a strange ranking: the 10 darkest cities, more accurately the cities having the least sunny hours per year. The sun is only shining 1203 hours a year. Depression is highly likely at this place because darkness. Why is Glasgow so popular then? There is plenty of rain, wind, and the summer is chilly. Still, it`s one of Europe’s most visited cities, with over 2 million tourists a year. The author of this article researched this matter personally, the summer of 2017. Scotland’s most populous settlement has undergone tremendous changes over the past 20 years. It’s a real, modern, cosmopolitan city. Tourists can find everything they need in one place: museums, galleries, historical monuments, cool shops, cosy restaurants and, finally, vibrant nightlife. Usually everyone starts with the well-known St. Mung Cathedral, followed by the City Hall. Walking down the streets, you discover Victorian buildings all over, and hear Scottish bagpipes. Most of the museum are free of charge to enter, including the Museum of Religion, the Burrell Collection and the Contem-

El Greco és Baker alkotásait feltétlenül nézze meg, aki erre jár! Ha Glasgow-ban jár, ne hagy ki a Culzean-kastélyt se, érdemes ide kirándulni, ez egy Ayrshire tengerparti, sziklatetőre épült, páratlan kilátást nyújtó, romantikus, 18. századi épület, Maybole település közelében. You shouldn`t miss the Italian Centre, with its special atmosphere and excellent cafés. It would be hard to count how many restaurants are in the city, it`s a real gastronomic hurly-burly. Among them, the restaurant The Ubiquitous Chip is outstanding, drawing attention with quality meals and drinks. There are countless pubs and nightclubs in the city, on the West End for example, where you can taste the legendary locally made Tennent’s Lager beer, the most famous Scottish whiskey and cider. People are friendly, humorous, and natural, local patriots first of all, chatting away in restaurants, telling everyone possible about their praised football team, the Celtic Glasgow. The city’s main attractions include the Kelvin grove Art Gallery and Museum, the University of Glasgow, Buchanan Street and Pollok Country Park, right in the middle of the city. Just five miles from the city centre is Pollok House, a beautifully restored Edwardian building, built in 1750. The furniture and paintings are impressive. El Greco and Baker’s creations must be seen! If you`re in Glasgow, do not miss the Culzean Castle, take a trip to this romantic, 18th century building, near Maybole, built on Ayrshire’s coastal rocky hilltop. The castle is surrounded by a beautiful park of 500 hectares. At present the park and the castle are both partly closed. The main attraction is the glassoval staircase at the centre of the building and the semi-circular sea-facing salon. In addition to sports, an internationally recognised cultural centre operates in the city, and most importantly is the birthplace of the Beatles band. In 2008, Liverpool was the European Capital of Culture. Liverpool is located at the lough of the Mersey River, just a few miles from the sea. Did you know here is one of the largest ports in the world that doesn`t depend on the ebb and flow? One of the centres of transatlantic navigation, full of historical buildings, grand parks and gardens, museums and all kinds of recreational facilities. The historical city centre shelters many UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Modern művészeti alkotások láthatók itt a 20. század elejétől kezdve, mégpedig a világ minden tájáról. A négyemeletes épületben a kortárs alkotók munkái is helyet kapnak. A Brown Streeten áll a korinthoszi oszlopokkal és szobrokkal díszített St. George Hall épülete. Ezt is látogassa meg, ha Liverpoolban jár! Nagytermében látható a világ egyik legnagyobb orgonája, melyet napjainkban is rendszeresen megszólaltatnak koncertek alkalmával. Liverpool legszebb épületének tartják. S akkor most hadd szóljunk a legendás angol popzenekarról. A The Beatles beatzenekar volt a popzene egyik legnagyobb hatású és legsikeresebb zenekara, amely 2004 végéig világszerte több mint 1,3 milliárd lemezt adott el. ,,Yesterday” című dala a modernkori zenetörténet legtöbbször feldolgozott száma, több mint 3000 változata létezik. Évtizedek teltek el azóta, hogy a Beatles meghódította a világot, sok turista mégis a mai napig kifejezetten az ő nyomaikat keresni érkezik Liverpoolba. Sokat nem kell keresgélniük, számos útikönyv szentel külön fejezetet a város Beatleshez kapcsolódó nevezetes helyszíneinek. Köztük van a Penny Lane, az Abbey Road és a Forthlin Road is, ahol Paul McCartney egykori otthona található. Az 1950-es években épült ház ma már műemléki védettség alatt áll, rengeteg rajongó számára zarándokhely. The Albert Dock is the main tourist attraction of Liverpool. It was the first building complex in England built exclusively with iron and brick. The five-story building blocks are surrounded by the sea, the harbour cove, where tobacco, cotton and sugar were once unloaded from commercial vessels. An arcade runs along at the base of the stunning, Victorian-style buildings, where once Moorish ships were tide to its Tuscan Columns. Nowadays there are luxury apartments, offices, designer boutiques, restaurants, cafés and art galleries in the decoratively refurbished warehouses. Albert Dock is home to other attractions of Liverpool, including the Beatles Museum, the Merseyside Maritime Museum and the International Museum of Slavery. The Tate Gallery is also to be found here! One of England’s most visited galleries, with special, always renewing exhibitions, to keep up the interest of fans of culture all year round. The gallery was established in the 19th century, based on the legacy of the sugar magnate Sir Henry Tate. To keep it classy, the museum was set up in an old sugar store. Modern art works can be seen here from the beginning of the 20th century, from all over the world. The four-story building also houses works by contemporary artists. The St George hall whit its Corinthian columns and statues is located on Brown Street. You should also see this if you are in Liverpool! One of the world’s largest organs stands in the saloon, which is still often used. Let’s talk about the legendary English pop music. The Beatles was one of the most influential and successful pop music band, which by the end of 2004 sold more than 1.3 billion albums worldwide. The song Yesterday is the most covered song in modern music history, with more than 3,000 different versions. Decades have passed since the Beatles conquered the world, yet many tourists still come to Liverpool looking for their traces. They do not have to search a lot, many tour guide books dedicate a separate chapter to the city’s famous sites associated with Beatles. Among them are Penny Lane, Abbey Road and Forthlin Road, where Paul McCartney’s former home is located. The house built in the 1950’s is now under the protection of historical monuments, and pilgrimage place for many fans. You can find all the information about the Fab Four at the award-winning Beatles Story Museum, not to mention the balconies displaying relics like George Harrison’s first guitar or John Lennon’s spectacles. Not so much of an attraction, yet world famous, the airport is in the Speke district in southern Liverpool, named after John Lennon in 2001, paying tribute to one of the most famous figures in the city, the former Beatles member. The airports logo is Lennon’s scratch of himself, underneath the motto of the airport, a line from the song Imagine: “Above us only sky”. Beat music fans can`t miss it. ■

Alaszkában és Kanadában több helyen is lehet látni télen a sarki fényt, de nekünk, európaiaknak elég csak Izlandra repülnünk, hiszen késő szeptembertől kora áprilisig lehet élvezni ezt a jelenséget a fővárostól, Rejkjavíktól nem messze. The Icelandic winter is one of the natural wonders of the world and visitors who get to witness the incredible Northern Lights are truly blessed. But the delights of Iceland aren’t restricted to its nature. The capital Reykjavík is a vibrant, friendly and clean city that boasts state-of-the-art buildings, exceptional restaurants and a buzzing nightlife. Reykjavík is also a city brimming with culture and there are plenty of galleries, museums and theatres to enjoy. There is plenty to discover outside of the capital. There are also plenty of activities to keep you busy such as climbing, glacier trekking, horse riding, fishing and whale watching. The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis are a spectacular natural phenomenon, often seen dancing around in fantastic colours across the Icelandic Arctic sky. They are caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the North Pole. That creates this wonderful light effect. The lights are formed from fast-moving, electrically charged particles that emanate from the sun. These are driven towards the poles by the Earth’s magnetic field – their varying colours are a result of the different gases in the upper atmosphere. In the northern hemisphere they are known as the aurora borealis and hang above the planet in an oval-shaped halo. The snowy wilds of Canada and Alaska are fine viewing spots, but for most of us it is more affordable, and convenient, to fly to Iceland. Cheddar. Ez egy délnyugat-angliai kis falu, amely a sajtkészítéséről híres. A cheddar sajt Anglia legkedveltebb sajtja. Tehéntejből készül kemény sajt, színe szalmasárga, illetve színezve narancsvörös. Állaga enyhén törékeny, gyakran szinte elolvad az ember szájában. Íze erőteljesen aromás, kissé fanyar, a dióra emlékeztet. Cheddar típusú sajtot sok helyen készítenek a világon, de az igazi cheddar csak néhány, erre jogosult brit megyében készülhet. Ilyen Somerset, Devon, Dorset és Cornwall. A Cheddar nemcsak falu, hanem egy szurdok neve is, amely a település határában húzódik. A Cheddar-szoros meredek, szűk mészkő hegyszoros, a Mendip-dombságot szeli át. Nagy sziklák veszik körül. Ez Nagy-Britannia legnagyobb hegyszorosa, mélysége 113 méter. Évente mintegy 300 000 látogatót vonz. A hegyszoros sziklái a karbon időszakból származnak, 280-340 millió évvel ez előttről. Maga a szoros kb. 18 000 éve alakult ki, amikor a glec�cserek Nagy-Britannia-szerte elolvadtak, és az így felhalmozódott, hatalmas mennyiségű víz erodálta a mészkövet. Ma kanyargós út vezet át a szoroson, ez jelzi az egykori folyó medrét. Régen a szurdok barlangjaiban érlelték és tárolták a sajtot, ami nyilván más állagot és aromát eredményezett, mint a ma ismert sajt esetében. Cheddar is a small village and civil parish in the Sedgemoor district of the South English county of Somerset. Cheddar cheese is the mnost popular cheese of England. Cheddar cheese is a relatively hard, pale yellow to off-white (unless artificially coloured), and sometimes sharp-tasting, cheese. The taset of cheddar is a little bit similar to the nut. Originating in the English village of Cheddar in Somerset cheeses of this style are produced beyond this region in Devon, Dorset and Cornwall and in several countries around the world. Cheddar is not only a village but it is a gorge as well. It is situated on the southern edge of the Mendip Hills, 14 km north-west of Wells. The depth of the gorge is 113 metres, It has 300 0 00 visitors/year, the rocks of the gorge have 280-340 million yeras past. The birth of the gorge was 18 000 years ago. Cheddar has been produced since at least the 12th century. The master of the cheddar producing was dairyman Jospeh Harding (1805-1876). For his technical developments, promotion of dairy hygiene and unremunerated propagation of modern cheese-making techniques he has been described as the father of cheddar cheese. Harding introduced new equipment into the process of cheese making, including his “revolving breaker” for curd cutting, saving much manual effort. The “Joseph Harding method” was the first modern system for cheddar production based upon scientific principles. Harding stated that cheddar cheese is “not made in the field, nor in the byre, nor even in the cow, it is made in the dairy. He and his wife were behind the introduction of the cheese into Scotland and North America. Joseph Harding’s sons, Henry and William Harding, were responsible for introducing cheddar cheese production to Australia and facilitating the establishment of the cheese industry in New Zealand respectively. A legenda szerint egyébként a dél-angliai Észak-Somersetben egy feledékeny fejőlány véletlenül kint hagyott egy sajtár tejet hűlni a Cheddar-szoros barlangjában. Itt egész évben 7°C hőmérséklet. Mire a lány visszatért, a tej ízletes anyaggá alakult át, így született meg a cheddar sajt. A Cheddar-barlangok már nagyon korán menedéket nyújtottak az embereknek. Bizonyítékok vannak rá, hogy a kőkorszakban is emberi tevékenység zajlott itt, ezt a felső, késő paleolit kori maradványok igazolják. Az ember ekkor, mintegy kétmillió éve, a pleisztocén korszak hajnalán kezdett kőszerszámokat használni. Itt, a Cheddar-barlangokban találtak rá Nagy-Britannia legöregebb teljes emberi csontvázára is: a 9000 éves cheddari emberre. ■

Older remains from the Upper Late Palaeolithic era (12,000–13,000 years ago) have been found The caves, produced by the activity of an underground river, contain stalactites and stalagmites. Gough’s Cave, which was discovered in 1903, leads around 400 m into the rock-face, and contains a variety of large rock chambers and formations. Cox’s Cave, discovered in 1837, is smaller but contains many intricate formations. ■

Lima a Csendes-óceán partján fekszik. Általában hűvösek itt a reggelek, s a délutánok naposak, 17-20 fok körüli a hőmérséklet. Az idő általában párás, minimum 80% az átlagos páratartalom. Aki a perui fővárosban jár, annak azt javasoljuk, hogy kezdje a túráját a Surquillo piacon Miraflores városrészben. Sokféle friss halat, s a tenger más gyümölcseit, valamint az esőerdőből, s a magas hegyekből származó növényeket, gyümölcsöket, húsfélét lehet itt kapni. Nem szabad kihagyni a piacon a friss gyümölcsleveket! Ha a piaccal végeztünk, akkor irány az öreg Lima, a gyarmati stílusú épületekkel teli öreg városrész, amelyet az UNESCO a Világörökség részének választott. 1500-tól 1900-ig Lima volt a legnagyobb városa a spanyol uralom alatt lévő Dél-Amerikának, s a Királyok városának hívták. A legcsodásabb épület, amelyet feltétlenül meg kell látogatni, a 17. századból való San Franciscokolostor, s a katakombák, ahol egykoron temetkeztek. Kis sétára innen található a főtér, ahol – többek között – a kormányzó palotája, valamint a nagy katedrális is felépült. A Casa Solar de Aliaga egy kiválóan megőrzött, gyarmati stílusú ház, amelyben 16 generáción át élt ugyanaz a család. A Don Jeronimo de Aliaga egyike volt annak a 13 parancsnoknak, aki a híres Pizzaróval érkezett, s Lima születésekor földet kapott a főtér mentén, hogy itt építkezhessen. Az épületet bejárva könnyű visszatekinteni gondolatban a múltba, s a bútorok, valamint antik tárgyak segítségével elképzelni, miként éltek itt évszázadokkal ezelőtt. Érdemes Limában egy öreg, tradicionális tavernát is meglátogatni, ilyen például a Cordano’s, ahol bárki megkóstolhatja a legfinomabb perui koktélt, a Pisco Sauer elnevezésű italt. Ez szőlőpárlat, lime dzuz, tojásfehérje és cukorszirup elegye, jól felrázva. Sok állami és magán múzeum is található Limában. Ezek közül a legkülönlegesebb a Larco Múzeum. Egy elő-kolumbiai templom helyén áll maga az épület, amelyben 300 éves tárgyakat, kerámiákat, textíliákat, arany és más nemes fémekből készült tárgyakat mutatnak be. Lima lies on the Pacific coast. In Lima, we have cold mornings and mild sunny afternoons, weather is going from 17 to 20 Celsius degrees. Do note this city has a very humid weather, we face about 80% of humidity at least. The best tour begins with an early morning visit to Surquillo local market in Miraflores. Here, you can see many types of fresh fish, as well as a variety of produce from the coast, the highlands and the jungle. You can try different fresh fruit from the coast, highlands and rainforest. Continue to Lima’s colonial centre, a Unesco world heritage site. Between its foundation in the 1500s up to the 1900s, Lima was the chief city of Spanish South America and known as the ‘City of Kings’. You will visit the magnificent 17th-century San Francisco Monastery with its cloisters and catacombs, an architectural masterpiece. A short stroll leads to heart of the old city and the Plaza Mayor main square, surrounded by yellow edifices, the Government Palace and the imposing and grand cathedral. You will also visit Casa Solar de Aliaga, a superbly preserved colonial mansion that has been occupied by 16 generations of the same family since 1535. Don Jeronimo De Aliaga was one of the 13 commanders to arrive with Pizarro and was given land around the main square to build his house when Lima was founded. The mansion is decorated with ornate antiques and fine furnishings and it is easy to get a feel of the history of the family. End your tour with a visit to one of the oldest traditional taverns in the city, Cordano’s, where you can taste Peru’s famous pisco sour. There are many public and private museums in Lima, but none as unique or pleasing as the Larco Museum. Housed in a former mansion, itself built on the site of a pre-Columbian temple, the museum offers a varied collection of 3,000 years of ceramic, textile and precious metal artifacts. There are also mummies that show off the different ways ancient cultures, including the Incas, preserved their dead. Two things really set this museum apart. First, visitors are allowed into the museum’s store rooms to see what’s not on display: a

A hotelnek van nyitott medencéje, jól felszerelt fitnesz központja és szépségszalonja is. A másik hotel, amit ajánlunk, a Libertador Lima Westin. Magas épületben van, jó a kilátás a szobákból, s az egyik étterme, a Maras különlegesen remek. Rafael Piqueras a tulajdonosa a vendéglőnek, aki Peru egyik leginkább ünnepelt séfje. A perui tradicionális ételeket keveri a molekuláris konyha elemeivel, s így mindig extra ételeket tálalnak az asztalokra. Olyan illusztris éttermekben tanulta a szakmát a séf, mint például az El Cellar de Can Roca Gironában, vagy az El Bulli szintén Spanyolországban, s így nem meglepő, hogy a saját éttermét is a legnagyobbak közé emelte hazatérve Peruba, Limában. ■
vast array of ceramic objects crafted by ancient Peruvians; there are tens of thousands of pots in the shapes of animals, plants and people. Second, there’s a special room devoted to erotic archaeological treasures. These are not your run-of-the-mill phallic symbols, but a collection of ceramic pots portraying a variety of sexual positions and acts — the Kama Sutra in clay, basically. Many such erotic pots were destroyed by Spanish conquerors, who were mortified by the explicit depictions, which makes this collection all the more important. The Larco Museum is about 25 minutes by taxi from San Isidro/Miraflores. There are a lot of great hotels in Lima. One of the best is the 5-star Country Club, a luxurious Hotel set in a 1927 English mansion, 5 km from Miraflores. It offers access to Lima´s Golf Club and a stained glass restaurant. The elegant suites at Country Club Lima Hotel have antique beds, chandeliers, and lush cream carpeting. All feature kingsize beds and air conditioning. Some have private balconies. Guests at Country Club Lima can enjoy the outdoor pool, surrounded by shady palm trees, or make use of the well-equipped gym and beauty parlour. Lima´s premier Golf Club features 18-holes. Another great hotel is Libertador Lima Westin. Dinner at Maras in this hotel becomes a whole life memory. Enjoy a special meal at Maras. Panama-csatorna
Több mint 100 évig épült, s egy évszázada segíti a hajózást.
Az építés során kiderült, hogy képtelenség a csatornát a világóceánok szintjére mélyíteni, ezért a terveket megváltoztatták. Felhagytak a csatorna további mélyítésével, az új tervek szerint az építés második, majd végső szakaszában a csatorna két végét zsilipekkel zárták le, sőt még a közepén is épült zsilip. A Jet Set magazin stábja nemrégiben Panamában járt, hogy bemutathassuk olvasóinknak a csodás építményt. Colonban kötünk ki. Panama északi részén található ez a település. Kolumbusz Kristófról, a nagy hajósról kapta a nevét, ő fedezte fel. Iszonyatos szegénység van a városban, bármerre nézünk a településen, csak kosz és szemét látható. Sok utca szögesdrótos kapuval van bezárva, vagy éppen kinyitva, nem tudni, hogy milyen szisztéma alapján. A szögesdrótok mindenesetre azt jelzik, hogy van mit félteni, s van mitől tartani.

A Panama-csatorna mesterséges építmény, mely a Csendes- és az Atlanti-óceánt köti össze. Hossza 77 km. Az építése 1880. január 1-jén kezdődött. A Panama-csatorna 1914-re készült el. Becslések szerint építése során 27 500 ember vesztette életét. A munkát járványok és földcsuszamlások nehezítették. Megépítése az emberiség történetének legnagyobb vállalkozásai közé tartozik. A csatornának köszönhetően a hajózási útvonalak jelentősen lerövidültek, a New York–San Francisco út például kevesebb, mint a felére (22 500 km – 9500 km) csökkent. Az elkészülése óta nem kell megkerülniük a hajósoknak a dél-amerikai földrészt, spórolva ezzel 25-27 nap hajózást a vad vizeken. A csatornaépítés során sok alapanyag tűnt el, s még több pénz. The Panama Canal, which connects the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans, is an artificial construction, 77 kilometres in length. Construction of the canal began on 1 January 1880 and was completed by 1914. 27,500 people are estimated to have lost their lives during the construction process, which was impeded by epidemics and landslides. Its building is regarded as one of the largest ventures in the history of mankind. Thanks to the canal, routes were significantly shortened. For example, the route between New York and San Francisco decreased by more than 50 per cent (from 22,500 to 9,500 kilometres). Since it was built seafarers have not had to go round the South American continent, thus saving 25-27 days of shipping in rough waters. During construction of the canal much basic material and even more money disappeared. Instead of the originally planned 120 million dollars, the cost amounted to 235 million already in the first phase of the building. 104 MPs in Panama’s Parliament were affected by widespread corruption. The notion of “panamizing” in Hungarian, meaning the involvement of fraud, came into being,
Mindenki azt tanácsolja, hogy a kikötőben rögtön szálljunk autóba, s ne próbáljunk meg sétálgatni a városban, mert nagyon veszélyes. Túl sok látnivaló nincs is itt, maximum a San Lorenzo erődítmény, vagy a szabadkereskedelmi zóna modern épületei, így nem okoz gondot betartani az íratlan szabályt, s a biztonságot előtérbe helyezni. A fő látványosság természetesen a Colontól egy óra autóútra levő Gatun-locks, vagyis a Panama-csatorna első zsilipje, ami a Karib-tenger felől érkező óriás hajókat fogadja, amelyek a Csendes-óceán felé tartanak. A Culebra Cut a csatorna legkeskenyebb szakasza, ez 12,7 kilométer hosszú. A csatorna létrehozásakor összesen 200 millió köbméter földet mozgattak meg, ez háromszor körbeérné a bolygónkat, ha ráhordanánk a felületére. A Panama-csatorna, mint említettük, közel 80 km hosszú, s a megnyitása óta több mint egymillió hajó haladt már át rajta. Az egymilliomodik hajó 2010-ben, szeptember 4-én kelt át, a konténerszállító Fortune Plumról volt szó. Éjjel is működik a zsilip, a Gatun-locksnál és a Culebra Cutnál floureszkáló világítással segítik a hajósok navigációját. Az Atlanti-óceán és a Csendes-óceán összeköttetése 3 zsiliprendszer segítségével zajlik: Gatun Locks, Pedro Miguel Locks, Miraflore. Az átkelés még akkor is megéri, ha méregdrága, 1999. december 31-ig az amerikaiak fennhatósága alatt üzemelt a csatorna, de ekkor átvették a panamaiak, azóta ők kezelik, s nekik termeli a pénzt. 26 méter a szintkülönbség a Karib-tenger és a Csendes-óceán között, ezt hidalja át a zsiliprendszer és a mesterséges Gatun-tó, amely a világon a legnagyobb, ember által kialakított tó.

During the construction it turned out that it was impossible to deepen the canal to the level of oceans, therefore the plans were changed. Further deepening of the canal was abandoned and according to the new plans in the second and then the final phase of construction locks were added at each end of the canal. Moreover, a lock was also built in the middle. The crew of Jet Set Magazine has recently been to Panama so we can introduce the miraculous edifice to our readers. We moored in Colón, which is in the northern part of Panama. It was named after the great seaman Christopher Columbus who discovered it. Poverty is horrific in the town and wherever you look you see dirt and rubbish. Many streets have barbed wire gates, sometimes closed, sometimes open. One wonders how it works. In any case the barbed wire indicates that there is something to fear, something to be afraid of. Everyone recommends immediately taking a car at the port and not trying to walk around in the town, since it is very dangerous. Anyway, there is little to see, apart from, at most, the San Lorenzo Fortress or the modern buildings of the free trade zone. Thus it is not difficult to keep to the unwritten law and choose safety. Of course, the chief attraction is the Gatun Locks, an hour’s drive from Colón. This is the Panama Canal’s first sluice gate which receives the giant vessels arriving from the Caribbean sailing to the Pacific Ocean. Culebra Cut is the narrowest section of the Canal and is 12.7 kilometres long. The large volume of earth that had to be scooped out from the rocky mountain would have been enough to shape 63 buildings the size of Egyptian pyramids. A total of 200 million cubic metres of earth was moved during the construction. This would, if laid on the surface, stretch three times round our globe. As mentioned, the Panama Canal is nearly 80 kilometres long, and more than a million ships have passed through since its opening. The one millionth vessel, the container freighter Fortune Plum, passed through on 4 September 2010. The locks continue to work at night, when fluorescent lights help navigation at the Gatun Locks and the Culebra Cut. The Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans are connected with the help of three lock systems: the Gatun Locks, the Pedro Miguel Locks and the Miraflores Locks.
Passing through is worth it, even if exorbitantly expensive. The canal operated under American authority until 31 December 1999. Then Panama took over and since then it has been managed by and is producing money for the country. 2017 Ő sz /Autumn • 37

UTAZÁS/Travel Évente 14 ezer hajó kel át a csatornán, s a zsilipeken összességében 10 ezer ember dolgozik. Karbantartás, fejlesztés, modernizáció, s üzemeltetés – ez a feladatuk. Most is komoly építkezések zajlanak, épül két újabb átemelő zsilip, hogy még több hajót tudjanak kiszolgálni a 21. században. Az új zsilip egyike 427 méter hosszú lesz és 55 méter széles, ez éppen négy futballpálya mérete. Ez tehát szélesebb és hosszabb, így nagyobb hajók is átkelhetnek majd rajta. Állandóan mélyíteni kell a csatornát, egy gép 10 millió dollárba kerül, ezt a munkát belgák és olaszok végzik. Panama a csatornája révén a legfontosabb logisztikai és szállítmányozási központtá vált, óriási raktárbázisok, kereskedelmi központok és kikötők épültek például Colonban és környékén, amelyeknek nemcsak hajó-, hanem vasúti- és légi összeköttetésük is van. Ottjártunkkor, mint mindig, óriási a tömeg a Gatun-locksnál. Sorra érkeznek a turistabuszok, hogy az érdeklődők lássák, miként működik ez a csoda. Lelátók vannak, mint a sportpályákon, innen figyelheti a kíváncsiskodó a zsilipelést, s a hangosbeszélőn folyamatosan adják az információkat. Mi az első sorban kapunk helyet, így jól látunk mindent. Beérkezik a nagy konténerszállító az első medencének a bejáratához. Innen kiszívják a vizet egy oldalsó medencébe, majd kinyitják a zsilip kapuját, s a beáramló víz feltölti a medencét. A hajót nagy erejű motorvonatok húzzák, csak 5-5 centi van a medence fala és a hajó oldala között, ha bekapcsolná a kapitány a motorokat, alighanem szétvetné vele a betonépítményt. Amikor megtelik vízzel a medence, a következő zsilipnél leengedik a vizet, majd kinyitják az ajtót, és beúszhat a hajó a második medencébe, majd ugyanezzel a szisztémával jön a harmadik medence, ami már összeköttetésben van a Gatun-tóval. A hajók útvonala: Gatun-locks, Gatun Lake, Culebra Cut, Pedro Miguel-locks, Miraflores-locks, és Bay of Panama. Legalább egy óráig nézzük az áthajózást, s csodáljuk az emberi tudást. A turisták távozáskor kapnak egy info grafikával ellátott tájékoztatót, amely pontosan leírja a Panama-csatorna működését, s egyben emlék is lehet, mert nagyon szép kiállítású kiadvány. ■

The difference in level between the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean is 26 metres, which is bridged over by the system of locks and the artificial Lake Gatun, the world’s largest man-made lake. 14,000 ships pass through the Canal annually and a total of ten thousand people work on the locks. Their tasks involve maintenance, development, modernisation and operation.
There is large construction work going on these days, too. Two new lift locks are being constructed so that even more ships can be served in the 21st century. One of the new locks will be 427 metres long and 55 metres wide, which is the size of four football pitches. So this will be longer and wider, and as a result larger vessels will also be able to pass through. The Canal has to be constantly deepened. One machine costs ten million dollars and the job is done by Belgians and Italians. Due to its canal, Panama has become a very important logistic and freight centre – huge warehouse bases, commercial centres and ports have been built, for example in Colón and its vicinity, which not only have shipping but also rail and air connections. When we were there as always there was a huge crowd at the Gatun Locks. Tourist buses arrive one after another so that people can observe how this miracle works. Stands like at sports grounds have been built for visitors who from there can watch the process, and information is continuously provided via loudspeakers. We had places in the first row, so we could see everything well. A large container freighter arrived at the entrance of the first pool. From there the water was drained into a side pool, then the lock gate opened and the inpouring water filled the pool. The ship was pulled by high powered motor trains. There was only five centimetres on each side between the wall of the pool and the side of the ship. Should the captain switch on the engines, he would most likely shatter the concrete structure. When the pool filled with water, the water was let out at the next lock, then the gate opened and the ship could sail into the second pool. The same system was used for the third pool, which was already connected with Lake Gatun. The route for the ship was Gatun Locks, Lake Gatun, Culebra Cut, Pedro Miguel Locks, Miraflores Locks and Bay of Panama. We were watching the crossing for at least an hour and could only marvel at human achievement. On leaving, tourists receive an information leaflet with infographic charts, which precisely describes the operation of the Panama Canal. At the same time it is also a souvenir, since the publication is of truly high quality. ■

A borászatoknál, a kitelepüléseken, a bor- és egyéb fesztiválok standjain is bizalmat, pozitív üzenetet ad, ha poharak, a dolgozók ruházata, a szóróajándékok és a megvásárolható kereskedelmi termékek is a kialakított arculat meghatározó jegyeit viselik. Tapasztalatból tudom, hogy egy borospince meglátogatása után néhány nappal, a kiváló italok és borkorcsolyák ízén kívül nem sok kézzelfogható emlékem marad az adott helyről. Nincs elérhetőség, esetleg már a pince nevét is elfelejtettem. A barátaimnak, ismerőseimnek nem tudom azt mondani, hogy „ide és ide menjetek, mert megéri”. Ezért is tartom fontosnak, hogy a borászatok, pincék tartsanak különböző szóró- vagy megvehető ajándékokat. Mindenki szeret kapni valamit, főleg grátisz. A tollakat, boralátéteket és egyéb ajándéktárgyakat csekély ráfordítással be lehet beszerezni, a vendégek mégis úgy érzik, sokkal többet kaptak. Konyakszínű borok Portugália és Magyarország között sok a hasonlóság. A két állam szinte egyidős, királyi vérünk is csörgedezik a portugál uralkodó dinasztiákban. Területünk, népességünk, nemzeti jövedelmünk közel azonos. Mindkét nép szereti a bort, több száz éves hagyománya van a szőlőtermesztésnek. Különlegesség, hogy boraink karaktere igen hasonló, pedig Portugáliában más szőlőkből készülnek a nedűk, mint nálunk. Nincs annál kellemesebb őszi-téli szabadság, mint elrepülni Budapestről Portugáliába, s végigkóstolni a Duoro-folyó völgyében, s Porto városában a legfinomabb portugál nedűket. A TAP légitársaság direkt járatot üzemeltet Budapestről Lisszabonba, ahonnan csak egy „ugrás” Porto. Portugália egyik legfontosabb exportcikke a portói bor. 1757-ben határolták el a borvidéket, ahol szigorú eredetvédelem alapján készítik a portói borokat. A Duoro-völgyében 40 ezer hektáron terem szőlő. Magas minőségi követelményeknek kell megfelelniük a portói boroknak, amelyekre jellemző, hogy alkohollal erősítik, a hosszabb ideig való eltarthatóság érdekében. A Ruby portói 3 év, a Tawny 6 év érlelést kap, ízük mézre, szárított gyümölcsre emlékeztet. 90 g/liter a cukortartalma. A legnagyobb borkészítési hagyománya Portugáliában a VinAF_TAP Hu OPO 180x148mm.pdf 1 29-08-2017 14:37:34 hos Borges cégnek van, 1884-ben alapították ezt a borászatot. A
Borges évi több mint hatmillió palack bort értékesít, s a fő terméke a Vinho Verde Gatao, vagyis a zöld bor, ebből legalább kétmillió üveggel adnak el évente. A cég ötven országba exportál. A Borges fehér borai közül érdemes kiemelni a Meia Encostát, a Lellót, és a Borges Duorót. Hangsúlyozni kell, hogy a Meiai Encosta érett, gyümölcsös, a szájban hűvösséget áraszt. A vörösboroknál a fűszeresség jobban megjelenik, mint a gyümölcsösség. Ha valaki kedvet kap egy portugáliai kiránduláshoz, s Lisszabonból elrepül Portóba, akkor érdemes a főhadiszállását a Portóval szemben lévő Gayo településen felállítani. Portóból sok hajó indul a Duoro-folyón, amelyről a különböző pincészeteknél ki lehet szállni, hogy részt vehessünk a kóstolókon.

A mazing Vibe in Budapest
L. Kelemen Gábor tudósítása a FINA vizes világbajnokságról. A vizes vb lázában égett 2017 júliusában Magyarország. A július 14–30. közötti vizes világbajnokság versenyeit csaknem félmillió, 485 ezer néző tekintette meg az öt helyszínen, s milliók a tévé képernyője előtt. Sportújságírói pályafutásom során vizes közegben éltem évtizedekig, így nagy öröm volt számomra, hogy most Budapesten láthattam a vizes sportok sztárjait. Ki is használtam a lehetőséget, s sok időmet töltöttem a stadionokban – a Jet Set golf és luxuséletmód magazin hivatalos tudósítójaként. A Duna Aréna Fun Parkjába is elmentem, ahová ingyenes volt a belépő, s hatalmas kivetítőkön láthatta bárki a vb eseményeit, szurkolhatott a sportolóinknak, miközben sörözhetett, fröccsözhetett, finom falatokat ehetett!
Ha személyesen csak kevesen találkozhattak a vb első számú sztárjával, Hosszú Katinkával, a Duna Aréna Fun Parkjában az IronNation standon megvehette bárki a Katinkát ábrázoló plüss kabalababát, s edző férjének, Shane Tusupnak a babáját is, a Katinka naptárt, a Katinkáról szóló képregényeket, Katinkás bögrét, s még sok minden mást. Sőt, hatalmas Hosszú Katinka poszter elé állva lefényképeztethette magát a szurkoló a háromszoros olimpiai bajnok versenyzőnkkel is, ami szép emlék lehet. Minden helyszínen jártam, így első kézből tudok beszámolni, hogy pazar körülmények várták a sportolókat. Nem ijedtem meg, ha a Terror Elhárítási Központ tankját láttam az utcán, ha gépfegyveres piros sapkás katonai rendészek járőröztek, ha lovas rendőröket pillanthattam meg, s ha biztonsági örök százai vettek körbe. The excitement reached the fever pitch in Hungary on 14-30 July. 485 000 people watched the World Championships in live on five different venues, and millions on TV. During my career as a sport journalist, I spent decades in the aqueous environment, so it was a great pleasure for me to see the stars of water sports in Budapest. I seized the opportunity and spent a lot of time in the stadiums - as the official correspondent of Jet Set golf and luxury lifestyle magazine. I also visited the Danube Arena Fun Park. The entry was free, everyone could watch the events of the World Championships on huge projectors and support our athletes, while drinking beer and enjoy delicious snacks! Even though only a few people had the chance to personally meet the number one star of the World Championships, Katinka Hosszú, at the Danube Arena Fun Park on the IronNation stand, anyone could buy the plush figurines of Katinka and his coach husbands, Shane Tusup`s, or Katinka’s calendar, Katinka’s comics, mugs, and much more. The fans could even pose for a photograph with Katinka`s huge poster. I went to every venue, so I can tell first hand that the athletes had profuse ambience. I was not frightened when I saw the tanks of Counter Terrorism Centre on the streets, the heavily armed patrol, the red-capped military police officers, the horse-riding officers, or being surrounded by security. Szépek és ügyesek voltak a vízi balettos lányok, csak az a bosszantó, hogy annyira szubjektív ez a sportág, a pontozók nem mindig azokat látták jónak, akik a közönséget magukkal ragadták. Régen a műkorcsolya eredményeken bosszankodtam annyit, mint most a műúszáson: akit egyszer valamiért elkönyvelnek kimagaslónak, az akár hibázhatott is, nem biztos, hogy hátrébb csúszott a ranglistán. A műugrók versenyét is nyomon követtem. A Duna Arénában sok néző között ültem. Nekem például a 10 méteres szinkron toronyugrás döntője tetszett leginkább, amit végigizgultam. Maguk az ugrások pár másodperc alatt lezajlottak, de a hatalmas kivetítőkön lassítva látni az ismétlést, különleges élmény volt. Elképesztő, hogy hány csavar fér bele pár másodpercbe az ugrások során. Balatonfüreden zajlott a nyílt vízi úszás, ami különleges élmény volt. Olasz Anna 10 km-es küzdelme meghatározó volt számomra július 16-án, vasárnap. Elképesztő, hogy a versenyzők men�nyit verekednek a vízben, s érdekes volt, hogy miként etetik, itatják őket az edzők az úszó stégről – verseny közben. Én ilyet korábban még nem láttam, de szerintem sokan mások sem. A margitszigeti Hajós Alfréd uszodában a női és a férfiválogatottnak szurkolhattunk. Bár aranyéremre nem voltunk esélyesek, de megtáltosodtak a magyar fiúk, s bejutottak a döntőbe. Majdnem megőrültem, amikor a fináléban elhúzott az ellenfél, a horvát válogatott 4-ra, s az is nagyon bosszantó volt, hogy sorozatban hagytuk ki az emberelőnyöket. Ha csak egy kicsit kevésbé ideges a magyar válogatott, akkor „behúzta” volna az aranyat, de azért az ezüst is szépen csillog. Ma már biztosan örülnek ennek is a játékosaink. A sportban bármi megtörténhet, így aztán az is megtörtént, hogy bánatunkra csak 5. lett a magyar női pólóválogatott, amely ennél többre hivatott.
Az úszóversenyek július 23-án kezdődtek, ez volt a csúcspontja a viadaloknak. Szakmailag és anyagilag is sikeresen zárta Hosszú Katinka (28) a vizes világbajnokságot. A 200 és 400 méter vegyes úszásban világbajnok, 200 m háton második, 200 m pillangón harmadik, 200 m gyorson hetedik lett, a 4x200-as nő gyorsváltóval pedig hatodikként végzett, s mindezért járt neki a jutalom. A háromszoros olimpiai, s immár hétszeres világbajnok úszó volt a magyar csapat legjobbja. Az Iron Ladynek becézett sztár összesen 26,37 millió forintnyi összeget tempózott össze a medencében bemutatott kiváló produkcióival. 48 • 2017 Ő sz /Autumn

Fantasztikus érzés volt ezen a világbajnokságon ilyen csodálatos közönség előtt versenyezni! Elképesztő hangulat uralkodott mindennap a Duna Arénában, az első napon izgultam is, pedig nem szoktam – értékelte teljesítményét Hosszú Katinka. – Elégedett vagyok azzal, amit elértem, hiszen négy érmet is szereztem, ráadásul a két vegyes számban első lettem. Itt tényleg a világ legjobbjaival találkozunk, így aki dobogóra állhat, valóban boldog lehet attól függetlenül, hányadikként ért célba. Hosszú Katinka mellett örülhettünk más magyarok érmes helyezéseinek is. Cseh László, Milák Kristóf és Verrasztó Dávid ezüsttel lepett meg minket, s volt még négy bronzérmünk is. A vizes világbajnokság kimagaslóan jó hatással volt Magyarország imázsára, a külföldi turisták elégedettek voltak az országgal. Nőtt az átlagos tartózkodási idő és megjelentek a sport-, valamint az üzleti turisták is. A megkérdezettek kétharmada biztosan tervezi, hogy máskor is idelátogat, 98 százaléka nyitott a visszatérésre, és ötből négyen azt mondták, ajánlják majd ismerőseiknek Magyarországot. A vizes vb megrendezésével olyan új vendégkört is sikerült az országba csábítani, akik egyébként nem látogattak volna el az országba. A felmérés szerint a külföldiek felénél pozitívan változott a Magyarországról kialakult kép, elégedettségük az országgal tízes skálán 8,73 pont lett. Az infrastruktúrával – közlekedés, szállás, tisztaság – való elégedettség is magas lett, minden vizsgált érték 8 feletti lett a 10-es skálán. Az idelátogatók jellemzően fiatal diplomások, közel felük a 18–29 éves korosztályba tartozott, 62 százalékuk szállodában lakott. ■

ful and skillful. It`s a bit of a bummer, that synchronized swimming is a highly subjective sport, it`s not always the ones who win the heart of the audience, win the competition. I used to be annoyed at figure skating like I was now. Once someone was marked as outstanding, won`t go down on the leaderboard even if they`ve made a mistake. I also watched the acrobatic diving, sitting in the Duna Arena among a lot of other spectators. The 10-meter synchronized platform final was the one I most liked. The jumps themselves only took a couple of seconds, but they were re played on huge projectors in slow motion. It was a special experience. It is truly amazing how many twist they can squeeze in to that couple of seconds. The open water swimming competition took place in Balatonfüred, it was a memorable experience. Anna Olasz`s 10 km swim, July 16th, was a defining race for me. It is unbelievable how much the swimmers fight each other in the water. It was also interesting, how their coaches feed them from the floating islands – during the competition. I`ve never seen this before, and I think neither did many others. In the Hajós Alfréd swimming pool on the Margit Island, we were cheering for the men, and woman national water polo team. Although we were not supposed to have a chance to win the gold medal, the boys boomed and got into the finals. I almost lost my mind when the Croatian National Team took the lead with 4 scores, and it was also annoying that we never took the chance on player advantage. If the Hungarian National Team was a bit less nervous, we could have won the gold medal, but the silver is shiny enough too. I`m sure the players are glad about it. Anything can happen in sport. So it happened that the woman water polo team ended up on the 5th place despite the expectations. Swimming competitions began on 23 July, which was the highlight of the runway. Katinka Hosszú (28) closed the world championship with great professional and financial success. World Champion in 200 and 400-meter individual medley, second place in 200 m backstroke, third place in 200 m butterfly, 7th place in 200 m frontstroke, and 6th place in 4x200 medley relay, so she deserves the reward. The three-time Olympics and now seven-time world champion swimmer was the best of the Hungarian team. The so-called Iron Lady earned a total of 26.32 million forints with those great strokes. ►– It was a fantastic feeling to compete in this world championship with such a wonderful audience – said Katinka Hos�-
szú - The whole atmosphere was amazing in Duna Aréna every day, I was even a bit nervous, which I`m usually not. I`m happy with my achievements, as I got four medals, and I won in both medleys. Here we really met the best of the world, so anyone who can stand on the podium can be happy, no matter which place they ended up on. Besides Katinka, we have a few other medals to be happy for. László Cseh , Kristóf Milák and Dávid Verrasztó surprised us with silver, and we had four bronze too. The aquatics world championship had a remarkable impact on the image of Hungary, and foreign tourists were satisfied with the country. The average length of stay increased and sports and business tourists appeared. Two-thirds of those surveyed are planning to visit again, 98 percent open to return, and four out of five said they would recommend Hungary to their acquaintances. The world championship also attracted a whole new circle of travellers, who wouldn`t have visited without. According to the survey, the image of Hungary has changed positively in half of the foreigners, and their satisfaction with the country has been 8.73 points on a ten-point scale. Satisfaction with the infrastructure - transport, accommodation, and cleanliness - was high as well, with every test value above 8 from 10. Visitors are typically young graduates, nearly half of them aged between 18 and 29 and 62% of them slept in hotels. ■

Tudta Ön, hogy Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) nemcsak olajfestményeket alkotott, de voltak csodás vízfestményei is! S hallott róla, hogy a kezdetben realisztikus művész impresszionistává vált, s a technikáját oda fejlesztette, hogy a színek különböző árnyalatait képes legyen vászonra vinni. Vincent van Gogh alig ismert festő volt életében, a halála után vált híressé. A festő csak egy művét tudta eladni aktív korában, a Vörös Szőlőhegy címűt, amelyet 400 frankért vásárolt meg tőle egy gyűjtő, Anna Boch. Ő a történelem egyik legnagyobb festője, s fontos szerepet játszott a modern művészet megalkotásában. Késő húszéves koráig nem is festett, s a legismertebb munkái a pályafutása utolsó 2 esztendejében születtek. Több mint 2000 műve maradt hátra, 900 festmény és 1100 rajz, illetve vázlat. 2013-ban fedezték fel a Naplemente Monmajournál című munkáját, ez volt 1928 óta az első teljes méretű olajfestmény, amire ráakadtak a történészek. Manapság nagyon sok festménye, így önarcképek, tájképek, portrék, napraforgók, a világ legelismertebb s legdrágább alkotásai között sorakoznak. Az íriszről készült festményéért 53,9 millió dollárt, a Dr. Gachet portréjáért 82,5 millió dollárt fizettek különböző árveréseken. Az amsterdami van Gogh múzeumot a híres művész munkáinak bemutatására hozták létre. ■

Vincent van Gogh fame grew in the years after his death.
Did you know that Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) painted not only oil paintings, but also beautiful water colours? And that he developed from a realistic to a more impressionist painter, refined his pointillism technique and eventually focused totally on experimenting with colours? Vincent van Gogh was little appreciated during his lifetime, his fame grew in the years after his death. According to the legend van Gogh sold only one painting, The Red Vineyard, bought for 400 Francs by the art collector Anna Boch. Today, he is widely regarded as one of history’s greatest painters. Van Gogh did not begin painting until his late twenties, and most of his best-known works were produced during his final two years. He produced more than 2000 artworks, consisting of around 900 paintings and 1100 drawings and sketches. In 2013 Sunset at Montmajour became the first full-sized van Gogh painting to be newly confirmed since 1928. Today, many of his pieces - including his numerous self portraits, landscapes, portraits and sunflowers - are among the world’s most recognizable and expensive works of art. On March 30, 1987, Irises was sold for a record US $ 53.9 million at Sotheby’s; on May 15, 1990, his Portrait of Dr. Gachet was sold for US $ 82.5 million at Christie’s. The van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam is dedicated to van Gogh’s work and that of his contemporaries. ■
