Az Edgewood Tahoe golfpálya 1968-ban nyílt meg, a kaliforniai tóparti golflétesítményt George Fazio tervezte. AZ ETIQUS GOLFÓRÁT SZABADALMAZTÁK EURÓPÁBAN
Az Etiqus angol óramárkát a golfosok számára tervezték, s sikerrel járt a szabadalmaztatása Európában. Az óra megálmodója Gary Butler, most már az amerikai és az európai engedélyeztetés után egyértelműen nekiláthat a világhódításnak. A golfóra kifejezés eddig leginkább azt a szerkezetet takarta, amelyet a golfosok játék közben a csuklójukon viseltek, hogy GPS jelek segítségével információkat kapjanak a szakaszokról, a greenek távolságáról, rögzítsék az eredményeiket, s statisztikákat nyerjenek ki belőle. Butler mindig is meg volt győződve arról, hogy kell legyen egy űr még arra, hogy a golfosok ne csak GPS vezérlésű órákat viseljenek, hanem hagyományos szerkezetűeket is hordjanak, s ezekkel is felhívják az emberek figyelmét a golf szeretetére, akár a pályán, akár azon kívül is. „Az új órám különleges kinézete azonosítja az embereket a golfosokkal, bárhol és bármikor is viseljék a karjukon” – mondta Gary Butler.
ETIQUS FOUNDER SECURES EUROPEAN PATENT FOR GOLF TIMEPIECE
The founder of British watch brand ETIQUS, which offers elegant timepieces exclusively designed for golfers, has successfully secured a patent from the European Patent Office for his golf timepiece invention. This grant is in addition to the US patents that entrepreneur Gary Butler already holds, putting him in position to partner with a major international watch manufacturer to take the ‘golf timepiece’ concept worldwide – particularly into the luxury end of the watch market. The term ‘golf watch’ is traditionally associated with GPS-based devices that golfers wear on their wrist, predominantly while playing the game, to provide course information, swing tempo, performance data and other stats. However, Butler has long believed that there is a gap in the market for traditional, horology-based wrist watches that passionate golfers can wear - mainly off the course - to show their love for, and knowledge of, the game. “The unique bezel design of my timepiece clearly identifies the wearer as a golfer who embraces the unique spirit of the game of golf wherever and whenever they choose to wear it.”-said Gary Butler.
A KORDA CSALÁD SIKEREI
Nelly Korda amerikai golfjátékos már a negyedik ember a családjában, aki nyílt ausztrál bajnoki címmel büszkélkedhet. A korábban cseh színekben versenyző Petr Korda 1998-ban nyert ausztrál bajnokságot teniszben, hat hónappal azelőtt, hogy megszületett volna kislánya, Nelly. 2012-ben Nelly nővére, Jessica, aki akkor 20 éves volt, megnyerte az ausztrál golfbajnokságot a női mezőnyben, s 2018-ban az akkor 18 éves bátyja, Sebastian teniszben lett Ausztrália bajnoka a juniorok között. Nelly az ISPS Handa nyílt ausztrál női golfbajnokságon, amit nemrégiben Adelaide-ben rendeztek, végig megőrizte a nyugalmát, s az utolsó 18 lyukon 67-et ütött, hogy ezzel beállítsa a -17-es eredményét a tornán. A címvédő Jin-Young Ko az utolsó játéknapon az egész versenysorozat legjobbját ütötte, 64-el zárta a kört, de így is csak -15 lett a végeredménye, ami a második helyhez volt csak elég. Nelly Korda az LPGA versenysorozaton a második győzelmét aratta Adelaide-ban, s ezzel előrelépett az eddigi 16 helyéről a legjobb 10 közé.

American golfer Nelly Korda has become the fourth member of her family to win an Australian Open title. Former Czech tennis player Petr Korda won the 1998 Australian Open singles title in 1998 six months before his daughter Nelly was born. The 20-year-old’s sister Jessica won the Australian Women’s Golf Open in 2012 and her tennis-playing brother Sebastian, 18, won the 2018 Australian Open junior title. The 20-year-old held her nerve to lead throughout the final round of the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open at The Grange Golf Club in Adelaide recently, posting a final round 67 to be 17-under for the tournament. Korda held off fast finishing defending champion Jin-Young Ko who shot the low round of the week – an 8-under 64 – to finish two shots back at 15-under. A magyar golfedző képzés 2017-ben elnyerte a PGA’s of Europe teljes jogú akkreditációját, és mint ilyen jogosult európai minősítésű „PGA Coach” oklevél kibocsájtására. Az oklevél minden EU tagországban érvényes. A képzés 3 éves, a PGA’s of Europe (EELS) akkreditációs feltételekben előírt kötött tartalommal és követelményrendszerrel működik.

Nem akadt kihívóra a háromszoros magyar bajnoknőnk, Vadkerti Adél, aki végig uralta a nők mezőnyét, így a magyar bajnoki cím elnyerése után megérdemelten emelhette magasba a nyílt bajnokság serlegét is. A férfiaknál szoros versengés alakult ki a fináléban, végül a szlovén Jakob Balkovecnek egyetlen ütéssel sikerült megelőzni Csányi Olivért és a mezőnyt végig vezető Ziga Straseket. ■ Adél Vadkerti played very well all the three days at Lake Balaton, the runner up had no chance to get close to her, so the three times Hungarian Champion became the winner of the Open in 2019. Olivér Csányi’s successes. Az Egyesült Államokban tanuló és golfozó (William Jessup Egyetem) Csányi Olivér számára véget ért a 2019. évi európai szezon. A magyar tehetség a nyári 3 hónapban összesen 26 versenykört játszott, az átlag ütésszáma Par + 1.53 lett. Hétszer játszott Par alatt, a legjobb köre 66 (-6) volt. Hét világranglista (WAGR) versenyen indult, köztük a magyar, az osztrák, a szlovák és a szlovén felnőtt nyílt bajnokságokon. Két versenyen lett első, egy viadalon második, egyen ötödik, egyen tizedik, kettőn pedig a Top 25-ben végzett. A szezon elején a HCPje 0.1 volt, ma +0.9. (10 ütés javítás!) Csányi Olivér 2018 augusztus elején került fel a világranglistára (WAGR) az 5348. helyen, ma a 2002. (!), azaz 3346 helyet lépett előre egy év alatt. A magyar sportolónak már komoly szponzora is van, a segítségével juthatott el gyönyörű helyszínekre, komoly versenyekre. ■
Olivér Csányi, who is studying and golfing in the USA (William Jessup University), finished his 2019 Summer season in Europe. He participated during the last 3 months in 26 rounds and his average score was Par +1,53. He finished seven times under Par, and his best score was 66 (-6). He started on seven WAGR competition, among them the Hungarian, the Austrian, the Slovakian and the Slovenian Open. He won 2 times, once he was second, and fifths and tens, and two times he was in the Top 25. At the beginning of the season his HCP was 0.1 and now it is +0.9 (better with 10 score!) Olivér Csányi was on the 5348. place on the world ranking list at August, 2018, and now he is on the 2002. (!!) place, so he improved with 3346 places – just in one year period. The Hungarian golfer has a serious sponsor, with the help of his sponsor he was able to travel to big competitions and nice places of Europe. ■ 2019 Ő sz / Autumn •

Egész évben 18-25 fok van a legnagyobb Kanári-szigeten. Spanyolország turisztikai népszerűsége nem szorul hosszú magyarázatra: az Atlanti-óceán és a Fölközi-tenger által körülölelt szárazföld és a számos kisebb-nagyobb sziget összesen majdnem 5000 km hosszú tenger- illetve óceánparttal rendelkezik. A Spanyolországhoz tartozó tengerpartok közül szinte mindenki megtalálhatja azt, amelyik a leginkább megfelel igényeinek. Homokos strandot keres? Vagy inkább drámai, sziklás partszakaszt? Romantikus utazásra vinné párját? Vagy golfozni szeretne? Biztosan talál kedvére való helyet. A golf szerelmeseinek Tenerifét javasoljuk, ez a Kanáriszigetcsoport legnagyobb tagja. A sziget szokatlanul változatos, lenyűgöző és kontrasztokban gazdag. Sziklaszirtek és mély szakadékok, sokszínű vegetáció és romantikus öblök váltakoznak. A nyaralóparadicsom fölé magasodik a sziget szívében Tenerife és Spanyolország legmagasabb hegye, a Pico del Teide. A Teidétől délre található egy gigantikus, holdbéli táj a Las Canadas kráterrel. Amíg délen a legnagyobb üdülőparadicsomok homokos strandokkal csábítják a fürdeni és pihenni vágyókat, addig a háttérben a sziget hófödte jelképe magasodik lélegzetelállítóan; színpompás növényvilág borítja a sziget északi részét, ahol hatalmas pálmaültetvények, buja virágoskertek, gondozott parkok, erdők és egyedülálló növényzet párosulnak. Egész évben kellemes, meleg, egészséges klíma uralkodik a szigeten, amelyet a hegyvonulat oszt két zónára. A 18 és 25 fok közötti hőmérséklet ideális a pihenni érkezők, a strandolni vágyók és a kirándulók számára is. Tenerifén lehetőség van szinte minden sport kipróbálására, és a szabadidős programok is rendkívül sokrétűek. S ez a sziget maga a golfparadicsom a sok csodás pályájával. Mi most felhívnánk a figyelmet az Abama golfklubra, amely talán a legdrágább, amikor nálunk tél van, ott akár 200 eurót is elkérnek 18 lyuk játékért. A Golf Las Americasban feleennyiért is lehet játszani, s itt a golfkocsi bérlése is elfogadható árú, csak 40 euró 18 lyukra, míg az ütőbérlésért is csak 40 eurót kérnek. A legnagyobb pálya a 27 lyukas Costa Adeje, amelynek hosszú szakaszai vannak. Képzett golfosoknak való. A legolcsóbb az Amarillo klubban golfozni, akár hihető, akár nem, itt csak 20 eurót kell fizetni 18 lyukért. The largest course is the 27-hole Costa Adeje, with long stages. Best suitable for skilled golfers. Cheapest is the Amarillo club, believe it or not, you only have to pay 20 euros for 18 holes. Évi 2,8 millió turista keresi fel, hogy túrázzon, kempingezzen, sziklát másszon, vagy csak élvezze a park látványát. A legnagyobb forgalom októbertől májusig van a parkban. A park egyik legkedveltebb piknikhelye a Quail Springs, amely a nyugati oldalon található. Nyolc étkezőasztal, grillező hely, szemetes, s illemhely nyújt kényelmet a vendégeknek. Surreal geologic features add to the wonder of this vast wilderness in southern California. Explore for yourself. Joshua Tree National Park is open year-round. There are few facilities within the park’s approximately 300 000 hectars, making Joshua Tree a true desert wilderness just a few hours outside Los Angeles, San Diego. About 2.8 million visitors come to the park each year to enjoy activities such as hiking, camping, photography, rock climbing, and simply enjoying the serene desert scenery. The busy season in Joshua Tree runs from October through May. Quail Springs is a small picnic and day-use area located along the western portion of Park Boulevard. This area is one of the more popular picnic spots because it is the first turn-off available after you enter the park from the town of Joshua Tree. Rock climbers frequent this spot because it offers easy access and beginner friendly routes.

Az egész nemzeti parknak talán ez a leglátványosabb része, számos hegymászó keresi fel, hogy leküzdje a monumentális sziklákat, sokan pedig csak azért állnak meg itt, hogy bámulják a sziklamászók küzdelmét a természettel. Különböző források szerint 1936-ban Bill Keys robbantásokat hajtott végre ezen a vidéken, hogy a tehenei könnyebben bejussanak a szikláktól akkor még körbezárt területre. Ma ez a Hidden Valley főbejárata. A Barker duzzasztógáthoz is vezet kiránduló út a parkban. 2,2 km hosszú oda-vissza. Sok madarat lehet látni útközben, s ha valakinek szerencséje van, akkor nagy szarvval rendelkező sivatagi birkákkal is találkozhat a sziklák tetején. Kedvenc desztinációja a turistáknak a Keys View, innán panoráma nyílik a Coachella-völgyre s a San Jacinto, valamint a San Gorgonio hegyek ormaira. A Nemzeti Park további érdekes helyei, ahol érdemes megállni: A Black Rock kanyon, ahol kempingezni is lehet, többféle túraútvonal indul innen, a vadvilág jól megfigyelhető, s ezen a területen kiterjedt Yucca pálma erdő látható. The picnic area has 8 tables, pit toilets, garbage and recycling, and fire pits with grills. This parking lot also serves as the trailhead to Johnny Lang Canyon, an off-trail route that heads into the hills to the south. This is a great spot to stop and provides a memorable first taste of Joshua Tree National Park. Hidden Valley is a self-guiding, 1,5 km loop trail that winds among massive boulders through what was believed to be a legendary cattle rustlers’ hideout. It is one of the most popular and scenic hiking trails in Joshua Tree National Park. The area is also a popular rock-climbing area. Many visitors enjoy just watching the climbers in action. According to various sources, in 1936, desert pioneer Bill Keys blasted a notch through the rocks walls to improve access for his cattle herds. Today this serves as Hidden Valley’s main access point. Barker Dam trail is 2,2 km loop. It is a popular hike. It is a gathering place for desert wildlife, including many species of birds and Desert Bighorn Sheep. Keys View is a favorite destination for those seeking panoramic views of the Coachella Valley, the San Andreas Fault, and the high peaks of San Jacinto and San Gorgonio.
Other attractions in the park: The Black Rock Canyon page describes the campground, hiking trails, and wildlife that you might see at this area just south of Yucca Valley, in the northwestern corner of the park. The Black Rock area is home to a beautiful Joshua tree forest. Cottonwood Spring, located 10 km inside the South Entrance, lies in the Colorado Desert. There is fascinating cultural history associated with the Cottonwood Spring Oasis, as well as great opportunities for birding and hiking. Covington Flats, located in the northwestern part of the park, is accessible via a dirt road; high clearance vehicles are recommended. West of Twentynine Palms, Indian Cove is the site of a popular campground, a nature trail, and access to the aptly named Wonderland of Rocks. Skull Rock is a popular stop along the main park road, near Jumbo Rocks Campground. ■

San Diego szívében található az öreg városrész, amely a spanyol hódításra emlékeztet, s a mexikói telepesek örökségét mutatja be 4,8 hektáron. Korai kaliforniai stílusú éttermek, mexikói ételeket kínáló vendéglők, múzeumok, színház, színes üzletek kavalkádját kínálja ez a „skanzen”. A szépen restaurált Cosmopolitan hotel is itt található. A parkban megtapasztalhatja a turista, hogy miként éltek itt a kezdetekben az emberek, s hogyan született Kalifornia. A történelmi épületek sokat mesélnek, a múzeumban a korai idők emlékei láthatók, 1820-tól 1870-ig kalauzolja végig a látogatót a kiállítás. Az öreg városrész híres az autentikus mexikói vendéglőiről. Szinte vibrál ez a negyed. Ha valaki tradicionális ízekre vágyik, akkor érdemes felkeresni az El Agave éttermet, egy hacienda stílusú ház
második emeletén található, s az ételek mellett itt lélegzetelállító tequila kollekció is várja a turistákat. A másik sláger étterem a Café Coyote, ennek a dekorációja lenyűgöző, mintha állandó fesztivál lenne itt. A Death Valley (Halál-völgy) a Föld egyik legforróbb területe, nyáron a nappali átlaghőmérséklet eléri a 47°C-t, és nem ritkák az 50°C fölötti értékek. A szélsőséges klíma ellenére ezernél is több növényfaj honos a völgyben, amik közül huszonegyet sehol másutt nem találni. A vízhiány és a sós talaj ellenére sokféle hüllő, madár és emlős otthona is a völgy, melyek mind jól alkalmazkodtak a sivatagi környezethez. Az elmúlt 10 000 évben négy népcsoport is élt a Death Valleyben, akik közül az utolsó, a nomád timbisa törzs i. e. 1000 körül telepedett le, s vadászattal és gyűjtögetéssel foglalkozott. Az első fehérek a kaliforniai aranyláz idején érkeztek, de hamar kiderült, hogy kevés arany van a földben, ezért csak néhány bánya tudott nyereséges lenni, majd 1915 körül a völgyben időlegesen befejeződött a bányászat. 1883-ban a szappankészítéshez szükséges bóraxot és zsírkövet kezdtek bányászni. Death Valley National Park is located in California, Southeast of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, about 4 hours from Los Angeles. Death Valley is one of the hottest areas on Earth, with the average daily temperature reaching 47 ° C in the Summer and temperature over 50 ° C is not uncommon either. Despite the extreme climate, there are more than a thousand species of plants native in the valley, twenty-one of which cannot be found anywhere else. Despite the lack of water and the salty soil, the valley is home to many reptiles, birds and mammals, all well adapted to the desert environment. For the past 10 000 years, there have been four ethnic groups living in Death Valley. The latest one was the nomadic Timbisa tribe, who settled here around 1000 B.C. and lead hunting and gathering lifestyle. The first white people arrived during the California Gold Rush, but it soon became obvious the soil is not actually rich in gold, therefore only a few mines were able to make a profit. Around 1915 mining in the valley was temporarily postponed. In 1883, they started to mine borax and soapstone, which are used when manufacturing soap. Death Valley was declared a National Monument in 1933, and in 1994, together with the adjacent protected areas, it was declared a National Park in 1994. The word says the valley was named after the 20 wagoners wandering through the mountains and deserts during the Gold Rush for two months before reaching the Death Valley. The hills beyond the valley cannot be crossed by carts, so they slaughtered the oxen for their meat, and chopped up the carts to have firewood to roast the meat. They continued on foot until they finally found the way out. One of them looked back and said goodbye to the place with the words "Goodbye, Death Valley!" The name stuck, even though only one elderly man died from the squad, who was already poorly before arriving to the valley. Yet, this bleak and barren area attracts many visitors as many points of attractions can be seen during the tour. The Badwater Basin is the deepest point of the US, 86 meters below sea level. There are springs in the lake, so there is always water here. More in the Winter, less in the Summer because it evaporates quickly. The water of the lake is three times saltier

A Badwater-medence az USA legmélyebben fekvő pontja, 86 méterrel van a tenger szintje alatt. A tóban források törnek fel, ezért itt mindig van víz. Télen több, nyáron kevesebb, mert hamar elpárolog. A tó vize háromszor sósabb a tengernél (innen a hely neve). Ennek ellenére több állat és növény él itt, köztük a sehol máshol elő nem forduló, mikroszkopikus méretű Badwater csiga. A tó mellől indul évente a világ egyik legextrémebb és legnehezebb versenye, a Badwater-maraton. A futóknak 217 kilométert kell megtenniük a Mount Whitney-hegy lábáig. Útközben három hegyvonulaton kelnek át, összesen vagy négyezer méter szintemelkedéssel! A Dante’s Peak a Badwater fölé magasodó, 1700 méteres hegy csúcsa. Fantasztikus kilátás nyílik innen az egész völgyre. Itt általában 10-15 °C-kal hidegebb van, mint a völgy alján, ami a nyári melegben különösen vonzóvá teszi. A Pacific Coast Borax bányavállalat nevezte el a helyet Dante Isteni színjátéka után, mert olyan a kilátás, mintha a mennyből néznénk a purgatóriumot. A Devil’s Golf Course (Az ördög golfpályája) a Death Valley talán legérdekesebb képződménye. Sziklakeménységű sókristályokból álló, csipkésen töredezett felszínű mező, milliónyi egymásba kapcsolódó, szabálytalan, 10–50 cm átmérőjű mélyedéssel. A sok egymásba érő lyuk miatt néhol inkább göröngyös talajnak tűnik. Közelről nézve láthatóvá válnak a mélyedésekben megbúvó apró sókristály-barlangok, melyekből a mező felépül. Nevét onnan kapta, hogy ezen a talajon csak az ördög tud golfozni.

They cross three mountain ranges on the way with altitudes of up to four thousand meters! Dante's Peak is the summit of the 1,700-meter high mountain above Badwater. The view is fantastic for the whole valley from the top. It is usually 10-15 ° C colder than at the bottom of the valley, which makes it particularly attractive in the Summer heat. KALIFORNIA /California A Racetrack Playa misztikus helyszínnek számít, mely rejtélyesen mozgó köveiről híres. A terület teljesen sík és vízszintes, a 4,5 kilométerre lévő két vége között mindössze 4 centiméter a szintkülönbség. Az év nagy részén száraz, néhány centiméteres darabokra töredezett agyagréteg borítja, növényzete nincs. A ritka, nagy esőzésekkor a közeli hegyoldalakról leömlő víz rövid ideig megmaradó, sekély tavat alakít ki. Itt találhatóak az akár több mázsás súlyt is elérő vándorló vagy vitorlázó kövek, amelyek több száz méteres csíkokat húzva maguk után változtatják helyüket a síkságon, mozgás közben azonban még senki nem látta őket. A leghíresebb talán a Zabriskie Point. A furcsa alakú sziklák anyaga aleurolit (iszapkő), ami szárazon nagyon kemény, ezért a növények nem tudnak gyökeret ereszteni rajta, ha azonban víz éri, felpuhul. A Death Valleyben ritkán esik, de akkor hirtelen, nagyon nagy mennyiségben. Mivel az iszapkövön nincs növény, nincs, ami megtartaná a vizet, így az eső rögtön le is folyik a szikla oldalán, kis csatornákat vágva a felpuhult kőzetbe. Évezredek alatt a kis csatornák kimélyültek, amíg el nem érték a mai bordázott formát. Ez az, ami másutt nem látható, csak itt, a sivatagi hőség közepén. A látvány főleg napkeltekor és napnyugtakor a leglenyűgözőbb, amikor a sziklák alakját kihangsúlyozzák a sötét árnyékok. A csodás kősivatagot egy kilátóból lehet megtekinteni, amit Christian Brevoort Zabriskie-ről, a Pacific Coast Borax bányatársaság igazgatójáról neveztek el. Világhírűvé Michelangelo Antonioni filmje tette. Az 1970-ben forgatott film a varázslatos, szavakkal nehezen leírható szikla-folyamról nehezen felejthető képsorokat rögzített. Mindezt egy nap alatt nem lehet bejárni, de mint minden sivatagban, itt is találunk egy oázist! S az oázisban két szállodát, melyek buja növényzetükkel és medencékkel felüdülést nyújtanak a megfáradt utazónak. A The Inn, a ma már elegáns, 88 szobás szálloda eredetileg 1927ben épült, s pár évvel ezelőtt 100 millió dollárból újították fel és bővítették 4 csillagos hotellé. A szobák teraszairól lenyűgöző látvány nyílik a Death Valley kietlen szikláira, miközben a kertben buja növények és pálmafák biztosítják az árnyékot. Racetrack Playa is a mysterious place, famous for its mysteriously moving stones. The area is completely flat and horizontal with only 4 centimetres difference between the two ends at 4.5 kilometres. Most of the year it is covered with a dry layer of clay crumbled into few centimetres pieces, with no vegetation. During the rare, heavy rainfalls, water flowing from nearby hillsides forms a shallow lake for a short period of time. You can find the several 100kg heavy "wandering" or "sailing" rocks here, carving long lines in the ground while moving, but no one has actually seen them moving yet. The most famous is probably Zabriskie Point. Strange shaped rocks are made of aleurolite (mudstone), which is very hard when dry, so plants cannot root on it, but when exposed to water, it softens. It rarely rains in the Death Valley, but then suddenly in very large quantities. Since there are no plants growing on the mudstone, there is nothing to hold the water, so the rain flows right off the side of the cliff, cutting small channels into the soft rock. In millennials, the small canals deepened until the ribbed forms developed. This cannot be seen anywhere else except here in the heart of the desert. The scenery is most impressive at sunrise and sunset when the shape of the rocks is highlighted by dark shadows. The magnificent rock desert can be seen from a lookout named after Christian Brevoort Zabriskie, director of the Pacific Coast Borax mining company. Michelangelo Antonioni's film made these rocks world-famous. Filmed in 1970, the movie captured sequences of the magically moving rock streams that are difficult to describe with words. It is impossible to see all of it in one day, but like in every desert, here is an oasis too! And there are two hotels that provide refreshment to the travellers with their lush greens and pools. Originally built in 1927, The Inn, now a stylish 88-room hotel, was renovated and upgraded to a 4-star hotel for $ 100 million a few years ago. The rooms' terraces offer stunning views of the barren cliffs of Death Valley, while the garden provides lush plants and palm trees. KALIFORNIA /California A Mono-tó egy lefolyástalan, mocsaras sós tó Kaliforniában. Észak-Amerika legöregebb tavai között tartják számon. A Mono-tónak nincs kifolyása az óceán felé, így feldúsult benne a só, és lúgos lett a víz. Ez a sivatagi tó egy szokatlan ökoszisztéma része lett, a sórák kedvelt élőhelye, és ennek következtében milliónyi költöző madár látogatja a medencét, akik itt fészkelnek. A Mono Lake 760 000 éve alakult ki egy nagyobb tó maradványaiból, mely egykor befedte Nevada és Utah mai területét. A legutóbbi jégkorszak idején a tó 270 méter mély lehetett. Jelenleg a Mono Lake egy geológiailag aktív terület a Mono-Inyo kráterek vulkanikus láncolatában. A tó közel 280 millió tonna oldott sót tartalmaz. A sókoncentrációja függ a tó vízszintjétől, mely változó. A magas sótartalom és a lúgosság miatt (pH=10) őshonos halak nem élnek a tóban. Sórákok egy faja endemikus élőlények a tóban. Egy melegebb nyári hónapban 4-6 billió rákocska lakik itt. Ezek
a rákok emberi fogyasztásra alkalmatlanok, de a tavat látogató madarak egyik fő tápláléka. A sórákok mikroszkopikus algákat esznek. Az élelemlánc ezeken az algákon alapul. Márciusra zöldell a tó a sok algától. A lúgos légy a tó partjai mellett él, és betokozódik egy kis légbuborékba, ahol tojást rak le. Ezek a legyek fontos táplálékaik a költöző madaraknak, akik idelátogatnak. Közel 2 000 000 vízimadár 35 faja látogatja a Mono Lake vizeit. Partjához közeledve már messziről szürkésfehér oszloperdő tűnik fel; lehetnének görög templom romjai vagy termeszvárak, de nem azok, hanem mésztufa tornyok; a tó fenekéről feltörő édes vizű források teremtményei. A tufák a parttól távolabb a szárazföldön is előfordulnak. Ha valaki ellátogat a Mono-tóhoz, s sétálgat a partján, akkor a Holdon érezheti magát, annyira furcsa hely. ■
Mono Lake is a saline soda lake in California, formed at least 760 000 years ago. It is among the oldest lakes in North America. The lack of an outlet causes high levels of salts to accumulate in the lake. These salts also make the lake water alkaline. The limnology of the lake shows it contains approximately 280 million tons of dissolved salts, with the salinity varying depending upon the amount of water in the lake at any given time The hypersalinity and high alkalinity (pH=10) of the lake means that no fish are native to the lake. The whole food chain of the lake is based on the high population of single-celled planktonic algae present in the photic zone of the lake. These algae reproduce rapidly during winter and early spring after winter runoff brings nutrients to the surface layer of water. The lake is famous for the Mono Lake brine shrimp, Artemia monica, a tiny species of brine shrimp, no bigger than a thumbnail, that are endemic to the lake. During the warmer summer months, an estimated 4–6 trillion brine shrimp inhabit the lake. Brine shrimp have no food value for humans, but are a staple for birds of the region. The brine shrimp feed on microscopic algae. Alkali flies, Ephydra hians live along the shores of the lake and walk underwater, encased in small air bubbles for grazing and to lay eggs. These flies are an important source of food for migratory and nesting birds. 2 million birds are visiting yearly the Mono lake. Many columns of limestone rise above the surface of Mono Lake. These limestone towers consist primarily of calciumcarbonate minerals such as calcite. This type of limestone rock is referred to as tufa, which is a term used for limestone that forms in low to moderate temperatures. If you are visiting Mono Lake and walking on the shore of the lake you can feel yourself in the Moon it is so strange place. ■

A Tahoe-tó „koronaékszere” az Emerald-öböl.
Lake Tahoe’s crown jewel is Emerald Bay. A Tahoe-tó a legnagyobb édesvízű tó Sierra Nevadában (USA), s a leghatalmasabb alpesi tó egész Észak-Amerikában. 1897 méter magasan fekszik Kalifornia és Nevada határán. 501 méter a mélysége, s ezzel a második helyen áll az USA-ban, mert az oregoni kráter tó 594 méter mély. 106 km a Tahoe-tó partszakasza, ebből 63 esik Kalifornia területére és 43 Nevadáéra. A tó 33 km hosszú és 18 km széles. Soha nem fagy be, mert a víz folyamatosan mozgásban van, s alulról felfelé áramlik. A Tahoe-tó kiemelt turistalátványosságnak számít mindkét államban, ami a vizének hihetetlen tisztaságával magyarázható, s azzal, hogy a környezetében lévő hegyek fantasztikus panorámáját élvezhetik a látogatói. Télen és nyáron egyaránt vonzó hely, egész évben látogatható. A sípályák jelentős részét képezik a területnek, a nevadai oldalon pedig a tóparti kaszinók jelentenek komoly vonzerőt. A téli sportok, illetve a kaszinó iparág jelenti a térség gazdasági alapját. A Fanette-sziget az Emerald-öbölben majdnem annak közepén, de inkább egy kicsit jobbra helyezkedik el, s egy teaház épült rajta mindössze. Ez a kis sziget az öböl extra látványossága. Lake Tahoe is a large freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada of the United States and the largest alpine lake in North America. Lying at 1897 m, it straddles the state line between California and Nevada. Its depth is 501 m, making it the second deepest in the United States after Crater Lake in Oregon (594 m). The shoreline is total 106 km, 63 km in Califiornia and 43 km in Nevada. The lenght of the lake is 33 km, and the width is 18 km. The locals are proud of the diverse variety of beaches and all they have to offer. Family fun and quiet sandy beaches waiting for you. Lake Tahoe’s crown jewel is Emerald Bay. Due to Lake Tahoe’s incredible clarity and depth, the colours of the lake are surreal and Emerald Bay is the perfect place to take in the entirety of the scene. Emerald Bay was declared a National Natural Landmark in 1969 by the federal Department of the Interior. Emerald Bay is a short drive from South Lake Tahoe and can be accessed via Highway 89. It is the only inlet on the lake and is home to Lake Tahoe’s only island, Fannette Island. As soon as you drive in, one of the most iconic stops along Highway 89 to Emerald Bay is Inspiration Point. This drive-up overlook is the perfect place to capture the dramatic landscape and historic Fannette Island. There are many different spaces to pull over and admire Emerald Bay, so don’t be discouraged if you can’t park directly at the point. Fannette Island, located right in the middle of Emerald Bay, is home to Mrs. Knight’s teahouse. If you want to drive around the lake it take about 2-3 hours, depends on how many times you stop to take photos. It is a must to stop in Tahoe City to visit the dam, (built here in 1870). Do not miss Truckee, the western city, Kings Beach, Incline Village, the Cave rocks and Zephyr Cove. Cruise with Ms Dixie II ship, you can have a lunch or dinner cruise. Éppen emiatt komoly veszély fenyegeti az országot, hogy egyszer ellepi majd az óceán, az ENSZ környezetvédelmi szervezetének tanulmánya szerint a globális felmelegedés hatására növekedni fog a vízszint, s 2100-ra a Maldív-szigetek lakhatatlanná válnak. The Republic of Maldives is a small country in South Asia, located in the Arabian Sea of the Indian Ocean. It lies South-West of Sri Lanka and India, about 1000 kilometres from the Asian continent. The Maldives consists of 1192 coral islands grouped in a double chain of 26 atolls, along the north-south direction, spread over roughly 90 000 square kilometres, making this one of the world’s most dispersed countries. Population is around 427 000 inhabitants. Malé is the capital and the most populated city, traditionally called the „King’s Island” for its central location. Maldives is the lowest country in the world, with maximum and average natural ground levels of only 2.4 metres and 1.0 metres above sea level, respectively. More than 80 per cent of the country’s land is composed of coral islands which rise less than one metre above sea level. As a result, the Maldives are at high risk of being submerged due to rising sea levels. The UN’s environmental panel has warned that, at current rates, sea level rise would be high enough to make the Maldives uninhabitable by 2100. You will arrive by air to Velena International Airport. From here you can have a speedboat transfer or sea planes transfer to your resort. Montenegro a világ egyik legérdekesebb helye. A fekete hegyek országa 670 ezer lakossal, 14 ezer négyzetkilométeren Dél-Európában, a balkán félszigeten, több olyan látványossággal, amely a világörökség része. Podgorica a fővárosa, de a legkedveltebb turistaközpontja Kotor. Ez egy középkori, fallal körülvett város, sok templommal és szoborral, gyönyörű terekkel, szép piaccal, remek éttermekkel. A 12. és 14. században alakult ki. Montenegro 1910ben lett királyság. 1918-ban vált Jugoszlávia részévé, s 2006-ban vívta ki a függetlenségét, a 192. nemzet az UNESCOban. A St. Tryphon katedrális, az ország szimbóluma a római kultúrát hirdeti, 809-ben épült. Fel lehet mászni a St. John erődhöz. A tetőről fantasztikus a kilátás a kotori öbölre. A kotori öbölben hét kis szigetecske nyújt hatalmas látványosságot. A fő attrakció vitathatatlanul az „Our Lady of the Rocks”. Kis sziget egy templommal és temetkezési hellyel. A 17. századból való. Minden évben július 22-én a közeli városkák lakói ideeveznek és köveket dobálnak a tengerbe, hogy jelképesen stabilizálják a kis szigetet. Kotorban vízilabdázott Kásás és Kiss, a két olimpiai bajnok magyar pólós. Hősök voltak itt. Miattuk szeretik a magyarokat. Sok taxi áll a kotori kikötőben, 20-25 euróért elvisznek bárkit Budvába és megmutatják a Sveti Stefán magánszigetet is. Csak hotelek vannak itt, méregdrágák, 700 eurót is elkérnek egy éjszakára. Olyan világsztárok járnak ide pihenni, mint például Sophia Loren, Sylvester Stallone, vagy II. Erzsébet brit uralkodó. Bezár a sziget október közepén és csak áprilisban nyit ki, annak ellenére, hogy itt nincs kemény tél, körülbelül plusz 10 fokot mérnek januárban is. Budva az öreg város 2500 éves. Montenegro certainly one of the most interesting places in the world. Even though it covers solely around 14 000 km2 and it only has about 670 000 citizens, its contribution to the world cultural heritage is impressive comparing its size. The capital of the country is Podgorica, but the most attractive tourist destination is Kotor. Montenegro has changed its name many times, from the Latin era under the mane of Prevalis, to the medieval state Zeta, and then to the modern name Crna Gora (Montenegro). As the name changed, so did the land, thanks to the influence of all the civilizations which for a shorter or longer period settled the territory of Montenegro, turning it into a mosaic of cultural heritage. Even today, Montenegors mosaic of cultural heritage is its most valuable aspect. Montenegro born in the 12-14. century. It became kingdom at 1910. In 1918 Montenegro was annexted to Jugoslavia and became independent at 2006 as the 192. nation in the lis of Unesco. The symbol of the country is St.Tryphon cathedral, which was built at the year of 809. Anybody can climb up to the fort St. John as well, from the top of the hill the panorama is breathtaking. The Bay of Kotor is one of the most beautiful bays of the world. It consists of four connected straits. High cliffs that surround the bay from all sides reflect in the deep blue waters of the Adriatic Sea. Seven island decorate the Bay of Kotor: Saint Marco (Sveti Marko), the island of Mamula, the island of Our Lady of the Rock. Every year at 22nd July the inhabitants of the nearby villages are gatjhering in the small island, collecting small stones and thowing them to the water to make the island more stabil. Two Hungarian olympic champion water polo players, Kásás and Kiss used to play polo here in Kotor. They were heros of the city. There are a lot of taxis in the posrt of Kotor and it cost just 20 euro to take you to Budva city or Sveti Stefan private island. UTAZÁS /Travel hoteleket, apartman házakat. Mindenhol oroszul van kiírva a házakra, hogy eladó-kiadó, nem szerbül. A legnagyobb beruházás: épül az első európai One and Only hotel a régi hadikikötő helyén. Egy azerbajdzsáni milliárdos vállalkozás 500 millió euróért húzza fel az ultra luxus komplexumot. 500 exkluzív lakosztály, 120 hotel szoba, és 200 villa lesz a luxustelepen, amely 3000 alkalmazottnak ad majd munkát. Jelenleg ez egész Európában a legnagyobb szabású beruházás. Nem véletlen, hogy még a montenegrói miniszterelnök is fogadta Peter Munk beruházót, aki jegyzi a projectet. A pénz tehát Montenegróba vándorol, ahová pedig ömlenek a külföldiek és az oroszok egyaránt. 342 ezer négyzetméteres az üdülőtelep, amelyhez 250 jacht kikötésére alkalmas kikötő tartozik és 70 luxusbutik. Természetesen számos étterem, kávézó, bár, teniszklub is létesül. A vendégek részére egy másik beruházó nemrég nyitotta meg a montenegrói golfpályát, ahol 18 lyuk várja az úri sport rajongóit, fantasztikus környezettel. Mindent megtesznek itt a vendégért, csak jöjjön és költse a pénzét. Még pár hónapot kell várni, hogy a már megkezdett építkezés befejeződjön, s addig is sok más új hotelt adnak át, mert egymást érik az építkezések a tengerparton. Természetesen mind nagy összegű beruházás. Megvesznek egy telket, ledózerolják a rajta lévő ingatlant, s ráhúznak egy csodapalotát. Ez a menete. Ha kell, napok alatt oázist varázsolnak, akár 2000 hatalmas pálmafát is hoznak kamionokkal és elültetik, hogy legyen pálmaerdő. S ugyanezt teszik a ciprusokkal, a fenyőkkel. Nem várnak évekig, hogy kinőjön a vegetáció. Olaj- és eukaliptusz fák tömege is érkezik, ezek mind mediterrán hangulatot teremtenek. Amúgy a lakosság nem keres túl jól, csak 400-500 eurót egy átlagember havonta. S a normális élethez legalább 1000 euró/fő kell. Emiatt sokan másodállást vállalnak, vagy nagyon szerényen meghúzzák magukat és figyelik az oroszok dőzsölését. A kommunista rendszerből kifolyólag utálják az oroszokat, most viszont lehet, hogy éppen ők lesznek a megváltók, mert munkalehetőséget kínálnak. ■

The sea, the lakes, the canyons or the mountains enable everyone to decide on the best way to enjoy a quality vacation. In one day, the curious traveler can have a coffee on one of the numerous beaches of the Budva Riviera, eat lunch with the song of the birds on Skardar Lake and dine next to a fireplace on the slopes of the Durmitor Mountain. These are all characteristics of Montenegro as a tourist destination that has a lot to offer. One of the most famous and prestigious places in Montenegro – Sveti Stefan (St Stephen) is located only 15 minutes drive from Budva. Sveti Stefan is certainly one of the tourist icons of Montenegro. It’s no wonder, when you visit this beautiful place you’ll immediately feel why Sophia Loren, Sylvester Stallone, Queen Elizabeth II and many other celebrities, just chose Sveti Stefan for your favorite place to vacation. In this island one night cost at least 700 euro in a five star hotel. The island is closed every year from November untill the end of March. Montenegro is going to be in the future the new Monte Carlo. More and more Russian oligarcha are travelling to the country to buy real estates in Montenegro. The billboards are written in Russian language instead of the Serbian and advertise which houses are for sale. Borne out of the vision of its chief investor, Canadian businessman Peter Munk, Porto Montenegro’s state-of-the-art marina utilises the existing infrastructure of the former Yugoslav naval facility upon which it is built. It will feature 630 berths for yachts, including the largest superyachts, and will provide the highest level of service and amenities for vessels of all sizes – including nearby drydock and repair facilities. In addition, the development will create a vibrant coastal community of waterfront residences, hotels and restaurants, shopping, water sports and leisure facilities. There will be 500 exclusive apartments, 120 new hotel rooms 200 villas... But this is just a part of the story – the rest is the destination itself. Porto Montenegro lies within one of the world”s most idyllic nautical playgrounds: the Bay of Kotor. An Unesco World Heritage site, the Bay of Kotor is Europe”s southernmost fjord and the largest natural harbour in the eastern Mediterranean. Yachts are getting bigger and bigger and people are complaining that they can’t find proper berths for them. That’s no problem in Tivat. It used to cater to warships. Sportolás, pihenés, romantikázás a szlovéniai Bledi-tó partján. Ön melyiket választaná? Hat kilométer hosszú séta és kerékpárút várja a kirándulókat körbe a Bledi-tó partján. Ez éppen olyan hosszú, ami kellemes, sportos kikapcsolódást nyújt. Ez az útvonal amúgy látványosságokhoz is vezet, így például a tó mellett magasodó hegy ormán álló várba, ahonnan pazar a panoráma. Érdemes a Bledi-tó partján csak úgy üldögélni is egy padon, és nézni a kacsák, meg a hattyúk úszkálását. A csúcs ajánlat azonban a Bledi-tótól csak pár kilométerre lévő Vintgar-szoros felkeresése, amelyet jól kiépítettek a turistáknak. Egész pontosan nyugati irányban 4 kilométerre található ez a természeti tünemény a tótól, amit Jakob Žumer, Gorje polgármestere fedezett fel Benedikt Lergetporer térképész és fotós társaságában – még 1891-ben. Eleinte nem lehetett átjárni a szoroson, de annak érdekében, hogy a turisták is megnézhessék, kinyitották a járhatatlan szakaszait, s mára olyan fejlesztést kapott, hogy pazar fajárdákon lehet végighaladni a szorosban. Olyan természeti szépségben gyönyörködhet a látogató, ami ritkaság, s ez az oka, hogy minden évben egyre több turista keresi fel a szorost, amely Szlovénia egyik legnagyobb látványosságává vált. Maga a szoros csak 1,6 kilométer hosszú, függőleges sziklaképződmények között zubog a víz, a Hom and Boršt hegyek vízesései tarkítják a látványt, néhol nagyobb medencék is láthatók a zuhatagok után. A legcsodásabb a Sum vízesés, amely 13 méter magasból ömlik alá, egy hídról lehet megtekinteni. A szorosban egyébként több fahidat is építettek, hogy megkönnyítsék a haladást. Látványosságnak számit az 1906-ban épített kőhíd is, amelyen a bohinji vasútvonal haladt át, 33,5 méter magasságban, s van egy gát is, s a felduzzasztott víz segítségével elektromos áramot termelnek. ■

This ravine in the immediate vicinity of Gorje, approximately 4 km north-west of Bled, was discovered by Jakob Žumer, the Major of Gorje, and the cartographer and photographer Benedikt Lergetporer in 1891. The natural form of the gorge was impassable, but was soon arranged and opened for public due to the tourist development of Bled which took place already in those days. Due to its natural beauty, Vintgar was classified among the more important tourist sights in Slovenia and the number of visitors increases every year. The 1.6 km long Vintgar gorge carves its way through the vertical rocks of the Hom and Boršt hills and is graced by the Radovna with its waterfalls, pools and rapids. The educational trail leads you over wooden bridges and Žumr’s galleries, and ends with a bridge overlooking the mighty 13 m high Šum waterfall. The Vintgar gorge also includes two man-made sights. The singlearch stone bridge of the Bohinj railway, constructed in 1906, which crosses the gorge 33.5 m above the trail, and the dam from which the water is routed to the small Vintgar hydroelectric power plant under the Šum waterfall. The Bled's Vintgar leaves an impression on every visitor. Many oak trees used to grow in this area, that’s why the city was named Dubrovnik after the word dubrava (oak). It became the most important part of the former Yugoslavia in 1929. It is part of Croatia since 1990. In 1991, it suffered damages during the South Slavic War, but fortunately it was quickly restored after the peace was established. Marble-paved squares, monasteries, churches, clock towers, medieval narrow streets and fountains are the attractions in Dubrovnik. The Onofrio Fountain is the most famous building and the Rectors Palace where the Government of the Republic of Dubrovnik met in the 15th century. It is a gothic palace, with late renaissance and baroque elements, which were implemented during reconstructions. Today, there is a historical and cultural museum in the building. The city itself is the most beautiful looking down from the bastion. The ticket is 12 Euros for one, but it’s worth the price. The walkway on the wall is 2 kilometres long. This wall is the symbol of the city. There are 5 small fortresses along the wall, three of which are fully integrated into the wall. It is easy to see all the new building rooftops that had to be renovated because of the war. From here you can see the beautiful landscape, the yachts rocking on the Adriatic Sea, big ships, eternal water. Nearly 1000 cruises dock annually at the Dubrovnik port. This is a huge income for the subtropical climate city, that also have sandy beaches. The old town is stuffed with a crowd all day and night. The alleys get so stuffed, often a traffic barrier builds up. There are so many people on the wider streets, it resembles the end of a football match when everyone is trying to exit the stadium at the same time. Terrace restaurants offer delicious meals, Croatian specialities like grilled squid, cevapcici and delicious wine. The guests also like the plum spirit, Maraschino liqueur, cherry liqueur and brandy. ■
Sok tölgyfa nőtt errefelé, ezért nevezték el a várost a Dubrava tölgy szó alapján Dubrovniknak. 1929-ben lett az egykori Jugoszlávia legfontosabb kikötője. 1990-től Horvátország része. 1991-ben a dél-szláv háború idején sérüléseket szenvedett, de szerencsére a béke beálltával hamar restaurálták. Márvánnyal lerakott terek, kolostorok, templomok, óratorony, középkori keskeny utcák, szökőkutak jelentik a látványosságokat Dubrovnikban. Az Onofrio szökőkút a leghíresebb építmény és a Rectors Palota, ahol a 15. században a Dubrovnik Köztársaság kormánya ülésezett. Gótikus palota ez, késő reneszánsz és barokk elemekkel, amelyek a rekonstrukciók során kerültek beépítésre. Ma történelmi és kulturális múzeum üzemel az épületben. Maga a város a legszebb, ha a bástyafalon körbesétáljuk. 12 euró egy főnek a sétajegy, de megéri kiváltani. 2 kilométeres a sétány. Ez a fal egyébként a város szimbóluma. A falon 5 kis erőd látható, ebből három integrált része a falnak. Látszik a sok új háztető, amelyeket a háború miatt kellett felújítani. S innen belátható a szép táj, az Adriai-tengeren hullámzó jachtok, a nagy hajók, a végtelen víz. Évente közel 1000 tengerjáró hajó dokkol a dubrovniki kikötőben. Ez óriási bevétel a szubtropikus klímájú, homokos partokat is kínáló városnak. Bent, az óvárosban egész nap, sőt este is hömpölyög a tömeg. A sikátoros utcákban néha még forgalmi akadály is keletkezik. A szélesebb utcákon annyian vannak, mint egy focimeccs végén a stadion kijáratánál, amikor mindenki egyszerre szeretne kijutni az arénából. Hangulatos teraszos éttermek kínálják a finom étkeket, a horvát specialitásokat, a tintahalat grillezve, a cevapcicát, s hozzá jófajta borokat. The Jet Set staff had a 4 hours food tour in early September, 2019, with „Taste of Lisboa” Food Tours company in Lisbon. Filipa Valente, the founder of „Taste of Lisboa”, is passionate about food, travelling and meeting new kindred foodies around the globe, so she decided

Megtapasztaltuk a túra során, hogy a portugálok újragondolták a gasztronómiát, s olyan recepteket alkottak, amelyek világhíressé válhattak. Mindenhol kaptunk finomságokat amerre vittek, ahol jártunk, s valamennyi étel, s italkóstoló ára benne volt a 75 euró/ fő jegyben. Megmutatták nekünk a rejtett kincseiket, olyan helyeket, ahová a helyiek járnak, amelyeket azok ismernek igazán, akik ott élnek. A túravezetőnkkel a Santo Condestável-templom bejáratánál találkoztunk. A híres 28-as lisszaboni villamossal közelítettük meg a helyszínt, egy megállóval a végállomás előtt szálltunk le, a Prazares elnevezésű állomáson, ami a templom jobb oldalán volt.

The meeting point was at the front door of Santo Condestável Church, located just next to Campo de Ourique Market, what we enjoyed a lot. We took the famous Lisbon Tram 28 to get there, exit the tram one stop (called „Prazares”) before the last, as this left us right by the church.

UTAZÁS /Travel Sok szépet láttunk, történelmi épületeket, templomokat mutatott az idegenvezetőnk, Catarina, aki fiatal kora ellenére nagy tudással rendelkezett, érezni lehetett, hogy Lisszabonban, a Campo de Ourique negyedben nőtt fel, s vérében van a helyi kultúra, gasztronómia. A túránkat a Bolo de Chocolate cukrászdában kezdtük, ahol találkoztunk Carlos Braz Lopez úrral, aki megalkotta a világ legjobb csokoládétortáját, amit ma már több földrészen is árusítanak. Második reggeliként elfogyasztva egy szelet szuperfinom tortát, nagy energiát kaptunk a továbbiakra. Catarina elvitt ezután a piacra, bemutatta a friss halas standokat, ami nagy élmény volt, majd a piac egy Petiscaria elnevezésű vendéglátóhelyén csicseriborsós kod-hal salátát, portugál konzerv szardíniát, s tonhalsalátát kóstoltunk Vinho Verde zöld borral, isteni volt. A következő állomásunk Padaria do Povo étterem volt, amelynek teraszán olajban sült szépiafalatokat ettünk, s hozzá a ház fehérborát kortyolgattuk, majd Bulhão Pato stílusú fekete kagylót tálaltak nekünk a Moules and Beer étteremben, házi kenyérrel és házisörrel. Az élvezet ekkor már majdnem a tetőfokára hágott. A csúcs a Pigmeu vendéglőben jött el számunkra, ahol disznósült falatkákat kínáltak számunkra, többek között 6 órán át szuvidált hússal töltött szendvicset, vörös borral. A záróakkord az Aloma kávéházban történt, ahol a portugálok híres és kedvenc édességét, a Pastel de Natat kóstolhattuk meg, amely nekünk is a favoritunkká vált. We had a very nice young guide, Catarina, with great knowledge of local culture and gastronomy, who showed us fantastic sites; buildings, churches, the market, restaurants and some food tastings were included as well. She grew up in the city, in love with Lisbon, its food culture and local lifestyle, a skilled expert, good choice by Filipa Valente. We started our tour at Bolo de Chocolate coffee bar, where we met Carlos Braz Lopez, who „invented” the best chocolate cake of the world, what he sells all over the globe. Serving as a „second breakfast” for us, his cake was really delicious. Following this tasting, we headed to the market to check out the fish stalls and to the food court Petiscaria, where we had codfish and chickpeas salad, Portuguese canned sardines and tinned tuna with Vinho Verde green wine. We loved it. Later we visited the Padaria do Povo restaurant where we tasted fried cuttlefish and wine on the balcony, then in another place, called Moules and Beer, mussels Bulhão Pato style were introduced for us, with artisanal beer. All were more than fine. At the Pigmeu restaurant we were served pork tidbits, pork croquette, crackling with veggies in season (tomato) and 6 hours slow cooked pork sandwich with red wine. This was the highlight of the food tour. The final stop was Aloma Caffe to taste the famous Pastel de Nata, the favourite cake of the Portuguese, which became our favourite as well. At the end of our tour we got some, tips from our tour guide to explore other unique, reinvented spaces, food markets, restaurants, bars, wineries in Lisbon. Két éjszaka Bordeaux-ban elég idő arra, hogy nagy vörösborokat kóstoljunk és vegyünk.
Gondolt már arra valaha, hogy megismerje azt a vidéket, ahol a világ legjobb vörösborait készítik? A Jet Set magazin stábjának az Azamara Journey hajóval az angliai Southamptonból indulva lehetősége nyílt 2019. augusztus végén, szeptember elején, hogy 2 éjszakát eltőltsön Bordeaux-ban, kóstoljon és vásároljon nagy borokat, megismerjen híres pincészeteket, s olyan világhíres körzeteket, mint Margaux, Saint-Emilion és Sauternes. Bordeaux mellett persze más fantasztikus desztinációkat is érintett az Azamara hajóút, olyat, mint például a régi városfallal körülvett St. Malo, vagy a közelében lévő Mont-Saint-Michel kastélysziget – a legendás apátsággal. De megemlíthetjük a sziklákkal és homokdűnékkel ékesített Belle-Íle partszakaszait, strandjait is, s az impozáns Le Palais citadellát. Two nights in Bordeaux, plenty of time to learn, try and buy great wines.
Have you ever wanted to experience the terroir that produces the world’s finest red wines? With the Azamara Wine and Romance cruise which departed from Southampton, UK, end of August 2019, spending two nights in Bordeaux, France, the staff of Jet Set magazine had plenty of time to learn, try and buy great wines. We had time for tours and tastings in Bordeaux, we visited famous wineries in Sauternes, Margaux and Saint-Emilion. The other destinations of the cruise were also fantastic, includeing the ancient walled city of St. Malo, home to the jewel of MontSaint-Michel and a legendary Benedictine Abbey in an astonishingly scenic setting. From the jagged cliffs and dune dotted beaches of Belle-Île we spotted the imposing Citadel of Le Palais. Toured the pastel-colored harbor of Sauzon, then indulged in a regional tradition with a sweet snack from a nearby crêperie and a delectable feast of fresh-caught seafood paired with a gorgeous glass of wine.

Az Azamara vezetőségének meghívására Bilbaóban megismerkedhettünk a baszk kultúrával, zenével, tánccal, a csodásan restaurált Campos Eliseos színház kifejezetten nekünk előadott műsora keretében. A köznyelv csak „Csokis doboznak” hívja ezt a színházat, amit 1902-ben Alfredo Acebal tervezett, s amit 2010ben újítottak fel – az eredeti tervek alapján. A show előtt az Azamara program igazgatója szívhez szóló megnyitóbeszédet tartott számunkra, majd az egész kontinensen szenzációszámba menő Korrontzi tangóharmónika művészetét élvezhetük a színpadon, s a modern táncokat figyelhettük, amelyek gyökerei a baszk kultúrából eredtek. 40 táncos lépett fel egyszerre, szinte vibrált a színpad, s az előadás lázba hozta közönséget. A lisszaboni végállomás előtti utolsó kikötőnk a spanyolországi Gijonban volt, fel-alá sétáltunk a La Playa de Poniente területén a kikötőben és környékén, s megismertük a La Playa de San Lorenzo hosszú promenádját is a város másik felén. Természe-
tesen itt is hívogattak a tapasz bárok, a csodás pékségek, s az utánozhatatlan ízű spanyol cider. 2020. szeptember 2-án az Azamara Pursuit újra elindul Southamptonból Lisszabonba, hogy végighajózza majdnem ugyanazt az útvonalat, amelyen a Jet Set stábja is részt vett. Ha valaki kíváncsi a „Bor és Romantika” hajóútra, akkor érdemes minél előbb lefoglalni egy kabint, amíg még van hely. 2020. május 14-től 24-ig szintén az Azamara Pursuit 10 éjszakás utat bonyolít le Lisszabonból Southamptonba, Portot, Bilbaót, Bordeauxot és St.Peter Portot érintve. In Bilbao, Spain we did not miss the world-renowned Guggenheim Museum and a hearty Basque-style tapas, called pintxo paired with Spain’s famous Rioja wines at one of the many excellent restaurants in town.
Our final stop before Lisbon, Portugal was Gijon, Spain where we took a stroll on La Playa de Poniente at the harbor and the long promenade at La Playa de San Lorenzo, as well as on the other side of the city. We did not miss the regional tapas and wines and a taste of Asturia’s fabulous pastries, cakes and ciders. We could tell the food were made by accomplished bakers. Thanks to the invitation of the Azamara staff, we experienced the passion of Basque music and culture during a performance at Bilbao’s wonderfully restored Theatre Campos Eliseos. Commonly called “The Chocolate Box” in reference to its unique façade, this stunning showplace was designed in 1902 by renowned architect, Alfredo Acebal. Renovated and reopened in 2010, on this night it was reserved solely for Azamara guests. Prior to show time, the ship’s captain provided a heartfelt welcome and said a few words regarding the venue and the night’s entertainment. Then, as European sensation, Korrontzi, takes to the stage, performing their unique blend of Basque, and modern dance art, whose roots are based in the movements and steps that defines the basque Culture, as a symbol of the province and other sounds. A vibrant troupe of 40 dancers took the show to a feverish pitch during this musical extravaganza. From 2 September 2020 Azamara Journey will cruise again from Southampton to Lisbon, 9 nights, the Wine and Romantic cruise will be repeated. Egy desztináció lehet egy hely, vagy egy életmód megtestesítője. Meglátogatható egy múzeum, amely feltárja az adott hely történelmét, vagy bejárható minden sarka, hogy felfedezze a látogató a szinte végtelen ismereteket a településről. Mondják: kétféle módon lehet megismerni egy várost. Az egyik, ha odautazik az ember, a másik, ha ott él… A Jet Set magazin stábja – a Bilbaói Turizmus Hivatal meghívására – elutazott Bilbaóba, s szeptember 1-jén, egy helyi idegenvezető segítségével végigjárta a baszk város régi negyedét, hogy felfedezzen mindent, amit lehet és érdemes. Bilbao ősi szívében, az alapnak számító 7 utcában tapasztaltuk meg, hogy miként alakult át a település az ipari, kereskedelmi központból művészeti és turisztikai központtá, amelynek éke a Guggenheim Múzeum. Experience the Old Quarter of the city and the Guggenheim Museum! A destination can be a place or a way of being. It can be visiting a museum to know its history or discover all the corners that have endless stories to tell you. Maybe that’s why they say: there are two ways to know a place. One is to visit it. And the other one to live it. Bilbao Turismo and Convention Bureau invited Jet Set staff for as walking tour in the Old Quarter of the city with a local guide at the first day of September, 2019. We discovered the history of Bilbao through its Seven Streets, the ancient heart of the city. We got a lot of info about the Basque city’s spectacular transformation from the industrial to the artful, crowned by the addition of the stunning Guggenheim Museum. The tour showed us Bilbao’s urban development and architecture from the 19th century to the present day. We strolled through narrow streets dotted with Renaissance, Baroque and Modernist architecture. Meander past the 14th-century Cathedral of Santiago and into the Plaza Nueva, a lovely arcaded square, or the Arriaga Theatre.
UTAZÁS /Travel tuk, megtekintettük a 14. századi Santiagho-katedrálist, eljutottunk a Plaza Nueva elnevezésű árkádos térre, s az Arriaga színházat is megörökítettük a fényképezőgépünkkel.
A Ria de Bilbao folyó partján meglátogattuk a La Ribera piacot, megálltunk az öreg városban több bárnál, hogy kóstoljunk tapaszokat, amelyeket a helyiek pintxonak hívnak, s igyunk hozzájuk jófajta spanyol bort, kávét meg üdítőt. Az idegenvezetőnk pontosan tudta, hogy hol, melyik pintxo bárba érdemes betérni falatozni, s így a legjobb ínyencségeket kóstolhattuk meg, mielőtt elmentünk volna bilbaói panorámafényképeket készíteni az Archanda fotópontra. Bilbao fénypontja a világhíres modern és kortárs művészeti alkotásokat bemutató Guggenheim Múzeum meglátogatása, amelyet az ünnepelt kanadai-amerikai építész, Frank Gehry tervezett (17 euró a belépő fejenként). Az emberi teljesítmény csodája ennek a dekonstruktivista, gyökeresen faragott, szerves körvonalakból álló, hajót formázó épületnek a megalkotása, amelyet 33 ezer titán lemez borít. A múzeum a Bilbao folyó felett „lebeg”, s hatással van mindenkire a forradalmian új tervezés, alakformázás. Bent az épületben vezetett túrát tehetnek a látogatók, több nyelven ismertetik a különböző szinteken, s termekben látható műalkotásokat, az avantgarde szobrokat, multimédiás kiállításokat, amelyek a kortárs művészetek magasabb szintjének a megértésére és elismerésére ösztönözhetnek minket. Mondhatjuk, hogy a bilbaói Guggenheim Múzeum a 20. század legreprezentatívabb épülete. A múzeum előtt egy hatalmas, színes virágokból alkotott kutya díszeleg, ez lett a város egyik legkedveltebb fotópontja, mindenki itt szelfizik, ezt tettük mi is. Fontos tudni, hogy Budapestről van direkt repülőjárat Santanderbe, amely csak 1 órányi autóútra található (100 km) Bilbaótól. Ha valaki a baszk városban jár, érdemes vennie Bilbao Bizkaia kártyát, amely 24, 48, 72 órára biztosít bérletet a közlekedési eszközökre, illetve kedvezményeket múzeumokba, éttermekbe, boltokba. Ha valaki Bilbao különlegesen tiszta öreg városrészét már bejárta, akkor érdemes új Bilbaót is felkeresni, a Lopez de Haro sugárút, a Plaza Moyua tér, a Gran via Don Diego sugárút üzletei, áruházai kiváló bevásárlási lehetőséget nyújtanak. ■
During our walk in the old city and in the river bend (Ria de Bilbao) in La Ribera Market, we stopped at various bars to savour scrumptious selections of pintxos paired with fine Spanish wine, or coffee or soft drinks. Pintxos are the city’s own take on Spanish tapas and our local guide knew just where to bring us for the best eats in the city. We enjoyed a taste of local cuisine and culture before wrapping things up with a panoramic photo taking opportunity of Bilbao from the Archanda Viewpoint. We saw one of the world’s foremost collections of modern art, housed inside what’s arguably man’s greatest achievement in modern architecture – Bilbao’s Guggenheim Museum, designed by legendary Canadian-American architect, Frank Gehry. (Entrance fee: 17 euro/person). Its seductive beauty defies all convention. Free flowing and gleaming with some 33000 titanium sheets, the Guggenheim rises above Bilbao’s riverfront to stir the imagination, and has been credited with spurring the “Bilbao
Effect”, a revolution of urban design and development you can experience first-hand. Inside, we embarked on a narrated tour led by a local expert, who provided fascinating insight into the museum’s most heralded pieces. Witness stunning works on canvas, avant-garde sculpture, multi-media art, and other exhibitions that were sure to leave us with an even greater appreciation for contemporary art. The Guggenheim Museum is the most representative buildings of the 20th century. In front of it there is a huge dog made of coloured flowers, this is one of the best photo spots of the city. Every tourist takes selfies here, we did as well. From Budapest you can have a direct, cheap flight to Santander which is just one hour away from Bilbao by car (100 km). In Bilbao it is worth to buy a Bilbao Bizkaia Card, which provides access to transportation and offer discounts at museums, restaurants and shops. Card options: 24, 48, 72 hours. If you finish your tour in the Old Quarter, which is very clean, visit the new Bilbao, Lopez de Haro avenue, Plaza Moyua, Gran via Don Diego for shopping. ■

Kóstoljon bele egy középkori francia város hangulatába és ízeibe! Experience the flavours and ambiance of a medieval village in France. A francia Saint-Emilion bortúra nemcsak az itt kóstolható nedűk miatt érdekes, hanem maga a középkori város is rendkívül vonzó, amely fekvése alapján kimagaslik a tájból, s dominálja a Dordogne-folyó völgyét. Ez az első szőlőbirtokok által uralt település a világon, amely 1999-ben felkerült az UNESCO világörökségi listájára mint „kulturtáj”, s amely mindmáig megőrizte az eredeti jellegét, egységét, s ahol jelenleg is folyamatos szőlőtermesztés és borkészítés zajlik, csakúgy, mint a múltban.

Saint-Emilion French wine route is renowned not only for its wines but for the village of Saint-Emillion itself, dominating the Dordogne valley from its hilltop position. This place makes up the first vineyards in the world to be awarded the title of ‘Cultural Landscape’ by Unesco on the World Heritage List in 1999 as a historical landscape that remains intact and continues as a working activity. Saint Emilion is an ideal place to start a wine tour in the vineyards, a wine tasting workshop or a simple winery tour. Visit the St Emilion wine route if you are travelling to the Bordeaux region. Nearby St. Emilion village Pomerol is much smaller but shares its Roman history with that of St. Emilion with the tiny appellation of Lalande de Pomerol at its northern tip. This is a land of reds, blends with majority of Merlot.Jet Set magazine staff had a 4 hours tour with BordOvino company to St. Emilion in the end of August, 2019 with the help of Bordeaux Tourism Office and Atout France. We immersed ourselves in the flavours and rich history of Saint Emilion on this journey. In Saint Emilion, we embarked on a stroll past the town’s ancient ramparts and monuments. Wandered the maze of narrow, cobblestone streets and discovered stone stairways connecting breath-taking town squares. We took photos of the famous monolithic church, the underground religious building dugged in the early 12th century of gigantic proportions (38 metres long and 12 metres high) and the bell tower. After discovering the charms of an old medieval village, we visited a part of the 200 km long underground cellars and stopped to sample one of the town’s famous St. Emilion macarons.

Vörösborok készülnek itt is, csakúgy, mint St. Emilionban, olyan cuvée nedűk, amelyekben a Merlot szőlő dominál. A Jet Set magazin stábja 4 órás St. Emilion bortúrán vett részt 2019. augusztus végén a BordOvino cég szervezésében a Bordeaux-i Turizmus Hivatal és a Francia Idegenforgalmi Hivatal (Atute France) támogatásával. Ezen az úton nemcsak az ízek világában merülhettünk el, hanem a történelemben is. Kellemes sétát tettünk St. Emilion dimbes-dombos macskaköves, régi, keskeny utcáin, megcsodáltuk a tereit, amelyeket sokszor kőlépcsők kötnek össze. Lefényképeztük a 12. században a hegyoldalba vájt híres templomot (38 méter hosszú és 12 méter magas), valamint a harangtornyát. Miután kiélveztük a középkori kisváros minden szépségét, felfedeztük a település alatt húzódó, mintegy 200 km hosszú pince-
rendszer egy részét, megálltunk egy pillanatra, hogy megkóstoljuk St. Emilion feledhetetlen macaronját, amit a bor mellett minden turistának ajánlanak. Az idegenvezetőnk egy nagy tudású, a borokat, s a várost is jól ismerő fiatal hölgy volt, Estelle, aki bemutatta nekünk St. Emiliont, valamint 3 borászatot, a Chateau Tour Baladoz, a Chateau La Croizille és a Chateau Jean Faure pincészetet. Mindegyik különbözött a másiktól: a Chateau Tour Baladoz a tradicionális, klasszikus technológiával készíti a bort, a Chateau La Croizille modern módszereket alkalmaz, míg a Chateau Jean Faure egy olyan különleges borászat, amelynél a tulajdonos is részt vesz a borkészítésben, sőt a borászat épületében lakik a családjával. (Más chateau-k inkább befektetők tulajdonában állnak.) A Chateau La Croizille szőlőbirtoka bizonyult a leglátványosabbnak, amely St. Emilion talán legmagasabb pontján található. A szőlőtáblákat fentről a völgy felé telepítették, csodás, felejthetetlen látványt nyújtanak. Háromféle bort kóstoltunk ebben a borászatban, amelyek a bordeaux-i régió sokféleségét mutatták be számunkra. A borbárban öntötték a poharainkba a nedűket, de a borászatnak van egy panoráma kóstolóterasza is, gyakorlatilag ez a legjobb hely itt a borok megismerésére. A Chateau Jean Faure borászatnál a kóstolás étel- és csokoládépárosítással zajlott. Francia kolbászt és sajtot, valamint keserű csokit kínáltak a vörösborok mellé, amelyek így együtt nagyon finomak voltak. Meg is állapítottuk, hogy a bor ételek fogyasztásával együtt a legfinomabb. Összességében leszögezhetjük, hogy valamennyi bor, amit megkóstoltunk, nagyon aromás volt, selymes, kiegyensúlyozott savakkal rendelkezett, s megmutatta a helyi talaj karakterét, ahonnan a szőlőt szüretelték. ■
Our guide was Estelle, who showed us St. Emilion village and 3 wineries, Chateau Tour Baladoz, Chateau La Croizille and Chateau Jean Faure. All the three wineries were different. Chateau Tour Baladoz wines are made with traditional, classic technology, the Chateau La Croizille wines with modern, high tech and Chateau Jean Faure winery is a unique place where the owner is participating in the wine making and living with his family in the chateau itself. The vineyards of Chateau La Croizille were the most picturesque, located at one of the highest points of the area. The gorgeous scenery was unforgettable just as the 3 different wines that we tasted. The 3 wines represented the diversity of Bordeaux region. The wine bar has a panoramic terrace as well, this is the best place to taste. In the Chateau Jean Faure, we paired the wines with food and chocolate. First the French sausage and cheese complimented the wines, than we tasted dark chocolate with the red wines . We made a conclusion: wines are better with food than without food. All wines were very aromatic, mellow, extremely fine, balanced and perfect, while expressed the natural characteristic of the terroir. ■

A fiuk, Roger Bardet 1962-ben létrehozta a Chateau Pontet-Fumet, St. Emilion Grand Cru borászatot. 2008-ban, Philippe Bardet, aki Roger Bardet fia, a Chateau Franc le Maine, St. Emilion Grand Cru borászat tulajdonosa lett. Vinobles Bardet Since 1704, St. Emilion Grand Cru.
The history of Vinobles Bardet begun on the banks of the Dordogne River in 1704. Mr. Seigneriau was a river boatman, who transported barrels of wine to the port in Saint-Brice de Vignonet, where he sold them. The port became an important trading station in the wine business. Then the Seigneriau family acquired some vines. In the same period, the expansion of the railway network brought an end to river transport of goods, enabling the descendants of the Seigneriau family to focus exclusively on cultivating the vines. In the 1920’s, Mr. Seigneriau’s granddoughter, Mathilde Roy married Henri Gabriel Bardet, who founded Chteau du Val d’Or, a Saint Emilion Grand Cru. In 1962 their son, Roger Bardet founded Chateau Pontet-Fumet, also St. Emilion Grand Cru. In 2008, Philippe Bardet, the son of Roger Bardet, became the owner of Chateau Franc le Maine, another St. Emilion Grand Cru. In turn, Philippe Bardet handed his legacy down to his children, Paul-Arthur and Thibault Bardet. In 2013, they acquired Chateau du Paradis, a Saint Emilion Grand Cru. In recognition of their family history, the Vignobles Bardet adopted the Gabarre, a Dordogne river boat, symbolising the family’s intrepid adventure. The Bardet family invited the JetSet crew at the beginning of September, 2019 to visit their properties and study their work.

Thibault Bardet volt az idegenvezetőnk, aki a családi cégnél a marketingtevékenységért felel. – Törekszünk a környezetvédelemre a borászatunknál, hogy minél inkább egyensúlyt teremtsünk a munkánk során a természettel – mondta magazinunknak Thibault Bardet. – Éppen ezért a szőlősorok között füvesítünk, s a tőkék közé telepített növénytakaró hatékony védelmet jelent az eróziótól. Nagyon odafigyelünk a pontos helyi időjárásjelentésekre, amelyek befolyással lehetnek a szőlőtermesztésre, geotermikus energiát használunk a borászatunkban, s a hulladékgazdálkodásunk szigorú szabályoknak megfelelően zajlik. Philippe Bardet az állandó újítási szándéka okán, s abban a hitben, hogy érdemes megreszkírozni új módszereket a szőlőművelésben, ki tudta hozni a legjobbat a talaj adottságaiból. Ráadásul két forradalmian új gépet is tervezett, amely segítette a szüretet és a minőségi borkészítést. Az egyik találmánya a szőlőfürt szortírozó volt, ez az eszköz eltávolította a szőlőszemeket a fürtről, elkülönítette a kocsányt és a leveleket, s az éretlen szőlőszemeket is. A másik találmány egy szőlőszem válogató berendezés volt, amely a nagyobb cukortartalmú kisebb szőlőszemeket elkülönítette a nagyobbaktól. Ezek a technológiai fejlesztések, no meg az a tény, hogy kis tankokban történt a bor erjesztése, lehetővé tették, hogy dűlőszelektált borkészítés történjen. Philippe Bardet jelenleg a bordeaux-i borvidék Környezetvédelmi Bizottságának elnöke, társelnöke a Bordeaux-i Bortanács Technikai Bizottságának, s elnöke a St. Emilion Bortanácsnak. Mindezek a pozíciók jelzik, hogy Philippe Bardet milyen elismert, nagy név a szakmában a bordeaux-i régióban. Thibault Bardet a stábunkat – megtisztelő módon – a Chateau du Paradis vignonet-i központjába hívta meg borkóstolóra, amely jelenleg egyben a család otthona is. Hétféle bort kínáltak a Bardet család négy borászatának termékeiből, köztük a legnemesebbet is, a The Paradis 2015 évjáratú borát, amelynek palackja 68 euró a pincészetnél. Különlegességnek számított megkóstolni a 2016-os évjáratú Dornish bort, amelynek elkészítését a Trónok harca filmsorozat inspirálta, amelyben a szereplők rendszeresen „dorni” bort ittak. A The Imp’s Delight bor szintén a Trónok harca alapján készült, ez a „dorni” bor magasabb minőségű, amit az ára is mutat, hiszen az előbbi 17 euró/palack áron kapható, ez utóbbi pedig 29 euró/palack. Mindkét bor jól iható, igen népszerű a fiatalabb korosztály körében. A Bardet család az alkoholos erjesztés során a saját élesztőjét használja. A boraik tölgyfahordóban érnek 12-18 hónapig, s jellemzően megtartják a gyümölcsösségüket. Thibault Bardet was our guide, who is responsible for marketing activities in the family. – We seek to reduce the impact of our activities on the environment by adopting practice that protect nature’s balances, such as using grass as a cover crop between the rows of the vines, developing fedging around the different plots to reconstitute natural ecosystems, maintaining the weather station to observe local weather patterns affecting the vines, strictly sorting waste and exploiting geothermal energy – said Thibault Bardot. Because of his belief and relying on his inventiveness, Philippe Bardet always take a risk and test new practices if it leads to taking the best possible care of his terroir. He designed two revolutionary machines that help him harvest top quality grapes. The Tribaie „grape sorter”sorts and cleans grapes, eliminating debris, leaves and unripe fruit. The Calibaie „grape calibrator”, picks the best grapes and separates the smaller ones, that have the most concentrated sugar content. These innovations and making the wine in small tanks makes it possible to bring out the distinctive characteristics of the different plots of the vineyard. It is more than a plot-by-plot selection, Philippe Bardet manages to pick quality at the level of individual grapes. Philippe Bardet is president of the Environmental Management system of Bordeaux wines, and co-president of the technical commission of the Bordeaux Wine Board. He is chairman of the
technical commission of the Saint-Emilion Wine Council. All these positions show how much of a „big name” Philippe Bardot in the Bordeaux region is. Thibault Bardot invited our staff to the historical house at Chateau du Paradis, Vignonet, which is now the family home on the River Dordogne bend, for wine tasting, as a great honour. We had 7 elegant wines to taste from the different Chateaus of Bardot family, and among them we found the best of the best, The Paradis, 2015 which is 68 euro in the winery/bottle. It was unique to taste Dornish Wine, 2016 - inspired by Game of Thrones and The Imp’s Delight, also inspired by Game of Thrones. The first wine costs 17 euro/bottle and the latter one is 29 euro/ bottle. Both were very good and popular among the costumers, mainly younger people. The Bardot family controls alcoholic fermentation, using its own yeast. Their wines must be kept in wood all the time, as this is how they keep their fruitiness best, aged over a period of 12 to 18 months. Their technique makes possible to separately vinify the grapes from different areas of each plot and to contribute rounded tannins to the wine. Bordeaux is the capital of the French Region of Aquitaine that stretches south along the west coast all the way to the Pyrenees Mountains. The city has expanded along the banks of the Garonne River that connects Bordeaux with the Atlantic Ocean. The river was Bordeaux’s most important trade route and enabled the city to grow in wealth and prestige. The staff of Jet Set arrived to Bordeaux with an Azamara Journey cruise ship at the end of August, 2019, which was small enough to be able to dock in the downtown port. We stayed 2 nights here to have enough time to explore the city. The people of Bordeaux are justifiably proud of the fact that in 2007 Unesco designated the city as a World Heritage Site due to its beautifully preserved architectural heritage. Though Bordeaux has been pillaged and plundered many times over the past two millennia the city was very fortunate in the twentieth century. During World War I, due to simple geography, the city was spared the ravages of that horrible conflict. Again, in World War II, with its lack of strategic value, Bordeaux was again spared the devastation visited upon so many other European cities, town and villages. Bordeaux’s international claim to fame, of course, is wine. The Bordeaux region, with nearly 120 000 hectares under grape cultivation, arguably produces some of the finest wines in the world. The people of Bordeaux refer to the different districts of their city as “Quartiers” and each has its own name and distinctive feel. The Saint Pierre Quarter, for instance, is the old historic heart of the city with beautiful classic architecture, churches and dramatic

Az első világháború azért, mert földrajzi értelemben nem esett a harcok zónájába, a második világháború pedig azért, mert nem számított stratégiai jelentőségűnek a város. A Saint Michel negyed arról ismert, hogy fiatalos, energetizáló, ötvözi a különböző kultúrákat. Bordeaux tehát egy izgalmas, dinamikusan fejlődő metropolisz, amely hatalmas pénzeket áldozva megőrizte a 18. századi hangulatát, báját. Bordeaux legnagyobb látványosságai: 1. A Saint Andre-katedrális: az öreg város déli részén található, méretében vetekszik a párizsi Notre-Dame-mal. 1100-ban kezdték építeni, s az évszázadok során több alkalommal átalakították, illetve felújították. Ebben a katedrálisban tartották meg 1137-ben Eleanor, Aquitaine hercegnőjének és Lajos hercegnek az esküvőjét. Nem sokkal később a herceget királlyá koronázták, ő lett Franciaország 7. uralkodója. 2. Place du Parlement (Parlament tér): a város központjában. 1754-ben épült, jó példája a 18. századi stílusnak. 3. Monument aux Girondins: ez egy hatalmas szökőkút a Quinconces tér közepén. Egy szobor is látható itt, amely 1894 és 1902, között épült a francia forradalom áldozatainak tiszteletére.

The Saint Michel Quarter is known for its young and energetic feel and diverse cultures. Bordeaux is an exciting and dynamic metropolis that has, at no small expense, taken great care to preserve its stunningly classic 18th century charm. Places of interest in Bordeux – Must see!
1. The Saint Andre Cathedral rivals Notre Dame in size and as such is the largest church in Bordeaux. It is located in the southern part of the Old City. Construction first begun in the 1100s. Various changes and renovations have taken place over the centuries. It was in this cathedral in 1137 that Eleanor, Duchess of Aquitaine, married Prince Louis. Not long afterwards the Prince was crowned Louis VII, King of France. 2. Place du Parlement (Parliament Square) is in the centre of the city. Built in 1754, this square is just one example of the beautiful 18th century architecture that is found throughout Bordeaux. 3. Monument aux Girondins is a large, stunning fountain in the middle of Quinconces Square. The statue, built between 1894 and 1902, honours victims in the moderate Girondins political party who perished during the period of the French Revolution known as the Reign of Terror. 4. The St. Eloi Gate was built as part of the city’s fortifications in the 1400s. Not long after completion a giant bell was added. A “new” bell was put in place in 1759. The gate and bell are part of Bordeaux’s official symbol. 5. Place de la Bourse (Bourse Square) is another majestic area in Bordeaux, this time looking out upon the Garonne River. Built in the 1700s there are refreshing fountains and elegant statues surrounded by stately 18th Century buildings. 6. Jardin Public (The Public Garden) was designed and built in the mid-1700s. One hundred years later it was redesigned in the English Style. Covering an area close to 10 hectares in the heart of the city the garden is 2019 Ő sz / Autumn • 49

The Jean Moulin Museum is named in honour of the leader of the French Résistance during World War II. The museum tells the history of the deportation of the Jews and the struggle of the French Underground during Nazi occupation. 8. The Basilique & Fleche Saint Michel (Church & Steeple of Saint Michel) begun in the late 1400s and has seen many repairs and refurbishing over the centuries. The free-standing, Gothic Style tower rises over 113 metres. The tower is one of the most cherished and recognizable landmarks of Bordeaux. ■
