Szeretné megismerni azt az illatot, amely valóban tökéletesen illik a stílusához és személyiségéhez? Az új párizsi parfümmúzeum, a Grand Musée du parfum segít kiválasztani ezt az illatot, sőt mi több, bemutatja a parfümkészítés titkait és világát. 2016. december 16-án a rue de Faubourg Saint Honoré utcában nyílt meg Párizs új parfüm szentélye. A múzeum interaktív kiállítása a legújabb technikákat használja fel. A látogatók többek között megismerhetik a parfümkészítés történetét, lépéseit... De bemutatják a szaglás és az illatok fontosságát is a mindennapjainkban. A digitális technikának, pontosabban egy tabletnek köszönhetően minden látogatót egyedi élmény vár. A látogatás során kiderül, hogy Ön melyik illatokat kedveli a kiállított 60 közül, így megismerheti a személyre szabott és Önhöz leginkább illő illatvilágot is. On December 16, 2016, Paris’s new perfume sanctuary opened in rue de Faubourg Saint Honoré. The interactive exhibition of the museum uses the latest techniques. Visitors can, among other things, learn about the history and steps of perfume making ... But they also show the importance of smell and scents in our everyday lives. Thanks to digital technology, more specifically a tablet, every visitor is looking forward to a unique experience. During the visit you will find out which scents you like from the 60 exhibited, so you can get to know your personalized and best fragrance. HENRI DE TOULOUSE-LAUTREC VILÁGA
A festőművész a franciaországi Albiban született, később Párizsban élt és alkotott. A Tarn megyei Albi büszkélkedhet a művész leggazdagabb nyilvános gyűjteményével a világon. Ezek az alkotások a város egykori Püspöki Palotájában, a Palais de la Berbie-ben vannak kiállítva, mely az UNESCO világörökség része. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec 1864. november 24-én született. Párizsba költözve a legnagyobb francia művészek közé emelkedett. A francia főváros pezsgése és hangulata elvarázsolta és hozzájárult, hogy Lautrec a litográfiák és az avantgárd reklámplakátok világszerte ismert zsenijévé vált.

The painter was born in Albi, France, later lived and worked in Paris. Albi from Tarn County was the proud owner of the largest public collection in the world. These art pieces are exhibited in the city’s former Episcopal Palace, called Palais de la Berbie, UNESCO World Heritage Site. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was born on November 24, 1864. Moving to Paris, he raised to the greatest French artists. The sparks and atmosphere of the French capital enchanted him, and contributed to the fact that Lautrec is known worldwide as the genius of the lithographs and avant-garde billboards.

A Bicske és Alcsútdoboz közigazgatási területére álmodott Budapest Gate Golf & Country Club üdülő és golf faluból – mint tudjuk – nem lett semmi. Az Oak Valley Kft. a kezdet kezdetén, a nagy fellendülésben bízva kizárólag hitelekből vette meg a tervezett projekthez szükséges 170 hektárnyi területet. A hírek szerint 1,3 milliárd forintot költöttek az ingatlan részeinek felvásárlására. A költségekhez az állam is vastagon hozzájárult: a vállalkozás csaknem 300 millió forintos támogatást kapott a Széchenyi-tervből, az MFB pedig több mint egymilliárdos hitelt folyósított. A felhalmozódott tartozások miatt 2012-ben dobra kellett verni a területet. Az ingatlant a Búzakalász 66 Kft. szerezte meg. A felszámoló 2,8 milliárdot kért a földekért. Most mindenki kíváncsian várja: mi lesz a sorsa a hatalmas földterületnek? Turisztikai beruházás, szálloda, esetleg mégis golfpálya születik? A Carnoustie Golf Link, melynek pályáit a The Open legnehezebbjének tartják, megkapta az engedélyt a golfközpontjának teljes átalakításához. A munkálatoknak be kell fejeződnie a 2018-as The Open Championshipre. Carnoustie Golf Links, hailed as the most challenging course on The Open rota, has been given the go-ahead for a major redevelopment of its golf centre, with works due to be completed in time for The Open Championship in 2018. The planned enhancements will see the current club building receive a complete renovation with a focus on creating open spaces for dining and relaxing after a round. ►– The planning permission has come through at an exciting time for us as we’ll be able to showcase the completed developments to a global audience during The Open Championship in 2018 – commented Pat Sawers, Chairman of the Carnoustie Golf Links Management Committee. – The new facilities will offer 21st century style and convenience to all of our visitors throughout the year, whether they’re world class professionals from across the globe, or locals looking for a place to relax and enjoy the stunning scenery – added the chairman. The star feature of the project will be the full length windows that will be installed throughout the upper floor of the building. This viewing gallery will reveal never-before-seen panoramas of the notoriously challenging closing holes of the links course, and will be accessible to all who visit the golf centre. As well as extensive renovations to the club building, cutting-edge golf simulator bays will be installed at the driving range to provide players with the latest technology to use during their warm-up and practice routines. Having lifted silverware three times on the LPGA Tour since turning pro in 2014, this victory is the 21-year-old from Perth’s fourth as a professional but her first on home soil. Szicilia a Földközitenger legnagyobb szigete, területe 25 ezer négyzetkilométer. Görögök, normannok, arabok és bizánciak, franciák, spanyolok uralkodtak itt. Szicíliában ezért keveredik sokféle kultúra. A szigetnek ötmillió lakosa van. Az olaszországi halászat huszonöt százaléka Szicíliában zajlik, ez a fő bevételi forrása, no meg a turizmus. Az európai Jet Set utazók kedvenc helye Taormina. A mediterrán civilizáció találkozóhelye volt ez mindig is, a kelet és a nyugat közötti híd. Már a 18. század óta kedvelt turisztikai hely.
Gardini Naxos üdülőhelyen állnak meg a nagy tengerjáró hajók – Taorminától pár kilométerre. Ez a kis település tengerparti szakaszokkal zsúfolt, ahol fürödni lehet, s sok az étterem, szálloda. Szép hotelek sorakoznak egymás mellett. Taormina fent van a hegytetőn, ide taxival lehet eljutni a partról. 25 euróért visz fel a taxi a városba, 30 euróért hoz le. Állítólag visszafelé hosszabb az út, de hogy miért, azt csak a taxisok tudják… A görög-római színház Taormina jelképe. A 3. században készült el, a görögök építették, s később a rómaiak megnagyobbították. Nagy nyári fesztiválokat rendeznek itt. 8 euró a belépőjegy. Van egy kisebb színház is, a római Odeon, amelynek egy részét fedi a Santa Caterina-templom. A nagy katedrális, azaz a Duomo az 1400-as években épült egy középkori templom maradványaira. Taormina gyalogos város, nem engedélyezik az autóforgalmat a falakon belül. Hömpölyög a tömeg, annyi a turista, kis autókról árulják a gyümölcsöt az utcán, a citrom hatalmas, de a héja szinte vastagabb, mint a húsa. Szinte minden házban és sikátorban étterem vagy bár üzemel. Taormina – the favourite place of Jet Set travellers.
With its 25,000 square kilometres, Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean. The Greeks, Normans, Arabs, Byzantines, French and Spanish have all ruled here. Hence Sicily has a very mixed culture. There are five million inhabitants on the island. Sicily accounts for twenty-five per cent of Italy’s fishing industry, which is its main source of income along with tourism. The favourite place of Jet Set’s European travellers is Taormina. It was and still is a meeting place of Mediterranean civilisations, a bridge between east and west, and since the 18th century it has been a favoured tourist destination. Large cruisers stop at the resort of Giardini Naxos, a few kilometres from Taormina. This small town has many beaches where you can swim, and there are many restaurants and places of accommodation. Small hotels stand ranged next to each other. Taormina is above, on the hilltop, and can be reached by taxi from the coast. The taxi takes you up to the town for 25 euros – it’s 30 euros to come down. Apparently, the road down is longer, but why that should be only the taxi drivers know. Taormina’s emblem is its Graeco-Roman theatre. It was built by the Greeks in the third century and later extended by the Romans. Big summer festivals are held here. Entrance tickets cost eight euros. There is also a smaller theatre, the Roman Odeon, part of which is covered by the Santa Caterina Church. The large cathedral, the Duomo, was constructed in the 1400s on the remains of a medieval church. Taormina is a town for pedestrians. Motor traffic is prohibited within its walls. The crowd surges along, there are so many tourists. Fruit is sold on the street from small vehicles. The lemons are huge and the peel is almost as thick as the pulp. There is a restaurant, bar or maybe a gift shop in almost every building and alley. The most luxurious hotel in the town is the San Domenico Palace, a member of the Leading Hotels of the World chain. It used to be a monastery. Mount Etna is the largest active volcano in Europe. You can see its peak clearly from the Greek theatre. The volcano has erupted 130 times, on eight occasions in the past three decades, spitting out its hot lava. The last time was just a few months ago. Nevertheless, what is interesting for such a dangerous place is that ski runs and restaurants have been established at the top of the volcano, and Italians regularly come here for winter sports. UTAZÁS/Travel A legluxusabb hotel a városban a San Domenico Palace, a Leading Hotels of the World lánc tagja, régen kolostor volt. Az Etna a legnagyobb aktív vulkán Európában. A görög színházból jól látható a csúcsa. Több mint 130 alkalommal tört ki ez a vulkán, s a legutóbbi 30 esztendőben már 8-szor működésbe lépett, s lövellte ki a forró lávát. Legutóbb éppen pár hónapja… Érdekesség: annak ellenére, hogy ez ilyen veszélyes hely, kialakítottak sípályákat és éttermeket a vulkán tetején, s az olaszok rendszeresen sportolnak itt télen. Az Etna domboldalán szőlőt termelnek, s bort csinálnak belőle, a neve nem túl fantáziadús: Etna bor. Az Etna Rosso és az Etna Bianco híres bor. A mediterrán konyhát ki kell próbálni Taorminában! Ez három részre osztható: keleti mediterrán, észak afrikai, és dél-európai. Itt ez utóbbi honos. A fő eleme a paradicsom. Érdekesség, hogy a 16. században a pápa betiltotta a paradicsomfogyasztást a mai Olaszország területén, de ez a tiltás nem volt, nem is lehetett sokáig érvényben. A mediterrán étkezés egészséges, sok hal, zöldség, gyümölcs, uborka, padlizsán és paradicsom. No meg bab. A húsok közül a bárány és a kecske az első számú kedvenc. Petrezselyem, oregánó, rozmaring. Friss sajt, és méz, joghurtok. S ne feledjük az olívabogyót és az olívaolajat, amivel a salátákat megbolondítják! A szicíliai makaróni paradicsommal, s padlizsánnal a csúcs, s persze egy kis parmezán sajttal a tetején. Nagyon népszerű a nyúlhús is Szicíliában. Marsala az ismert édes boruk a helyieknek, ezt a desszertekhez fogyasztják, vagy csak úgy magában az étkezés végén. Taorminába egész éven át látogatást tehetünk, itt mindig jó az idő, vagy még jobb. A hangulat tipikus szicíliai, az utcán minden hónapban nagy tömegek mozognak. ■

It has three elements – eastern Mediterranean, north African and southern European, the last-mentioned being indigenous. The main ingredient is tomato. Interestingly, in the 16th century the Pope prohibited the consumption of tomatoes in the territory of today’s Italy, but the ban
wasn’t, indeed couldn’t be enforced for long. The Mediterranean diet is healthy, comprising a lot of fish, vegetables, fruit, cucumber, aubergine and tomatoes, as well as beans. As for meat, lamb and goat are the favourites. There is parsley, oregano, rosemary, fresh cheese, honey and yoghurt. And let’s not forget olives and olive oil, which enliven the salads. Sicilian macaroni with tomato and aubergine is the tops, naturally with a bit of parmesan cheese added. Rabbit is also very popular in Sicily. Marsala is a well-known local sweet wine, drunk with dessert or on its own at the end of a meal. You can visit Taormina throughout the year, the weather is always good, and sometimes excellent. The atmosphere is typically Sicilian, with crowds of people thronging the streets in every month. ■

A prágai Kaiserstejnsky Palotában rendezték meg március közepén az ACCESS Luxus utazási kiállítást, amelyre immár 6. alkalommal került sor a cseh fővárosban. A rendezvényen a világ extra szállodái mutatkoztak be a szolgáltatásaikkal a kiutaztató irodáknak és a sajtónak. Mint minden esztendőben, ezúttal is sok újdonságot láthattunk, hallhattunk. A rangos esemény meghívott vendége volt a Jet Set golf és luxuséletmód magazin kiadója is, kiadványunk legfrissebb számát minden kiállító és vendég meg is kapta az ajándékszatyrában. Néhány említésre méltó hotelt kiemelnénk a résztvevők közül. Ilyen például a Grand Resort Lagonissi Athens, amely 72 hektáros privát félszigeten terül el. A tengerparti bungalóknak saját medencéik vannak, s privát tengerparti szakaszaik is. Különlegességnek számít a Kudadoo Maldives privát sziget, amely csak felnőtteket fogad. We would like to highlight some of the hotels introduced, such as the Grand Resort Lagonissi Athens, built on a 72-hectare private peninsula. Akik nem akarnak olyan messze utazni, azoknak az Adrian Hotels nyújt pazar kínálatot Tenerife-szigeten. A Jardines de Nivara, a Roca Nivara és a Colon Guanahani 5, illetve 4 csillaggal áll rendelkezésre. Ez utóbbi csal 16 évesnél idősebb vendégeket fogad. Tudni kell, hogy Tenerifén fekete homokos a tengerpart, mert vulkanikus sziget, de ez semmit nem von le az élvezeti értékéből. Szólni kell a Falkensteiner szállodákról és rezidenciákról is, amelyek 6 európai országban várják a vendégeket kiemelt luxussal, wellness és spa-központokkal, golfpályákkal. In exchange, their slogan is, “anything, anytime, anywhere” for the guests. Naturally, every suit has a valet. Europe’s „Maldives” is Sardinia. The Forte Village also offers some extras for the guests on the Italian island. It’s almost like a village, it’s so extensive. The leisure complex is 40 kilometres from Cagliari airport, where you can fly directly from Budapest. There are 21 restaurants in the resort, including Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant. White sandy beach and 6 seawater pools await guests. There is a Wonderland for children. Adults are dazzled at the Forte Arena, starred by artists from all around the world and with great musicals such as Mamma Mia! This is not only a holiday resort, but also a sports centre, ranging from go-cart to tennis, almost any sports. From the Seychelle Islands, the 5-star Constance Ephélia Hotel was introduced. This is one of the most luxurious hotel on Mahé, Seychelle Island. The uniquely located resort has a view of the Port Launary Marine National Park. The hotel complex is located on the North-East part of the Mahé Island, on 120 hectares of land. The junior suites, pools and restaurants and beach are on the south side of the estate. On the northern part, there are senior suites.. All together: 224 suites and 43 villas await tourists. Since this is a large area, guests can use golf carts, the drivers stop at all destinations every 5 minutes. The AM Resorts has somewhat similar goal, which operates all-inclusive houses in the Caribbean and Latin America. They rethought the all-inclusive catering, for example, not just the buffet but also the elegant a ‘la carte restaurant is included in the price. The Sofitel Dubai awaits its guests on the famous Palm Island, with some Polynesian influences. 237 rooms, 123 suites, 182 apartments and 4 private villas, 10 restaurants, bar and a huge Spa what this place can offer. You can expect an unforgettable holiday here, but it’s not recommended to come here between June and October, because of the high heat. For whom doesn’t want to travel so far, the Adrian Hotels has a superb offer on Tenerife Island. Jardines de Nivara, Roca Nivara and Colon Guanahani are available with 5 or 4 stars. The latter only accommodates person over 16 years of age. Tenerife has a black sandy beach, because the island is volcanic. A cseh főváros már húsvét előtt, dacolva a hűvös idővel, s a gyakori esőzésekkel megtelt turistákkal. Pedig 2018-ban nagyon korán volt húsvét. Mi lesz itt nyáron? A Moldva folyót átívelő Károly hídon, amely a legszebb, március közepén lépni sem lehetett, annyi külföldi kelt át rajta. Az emberek az óvárosból igyekeztek a Hradzsin, vagyis a várnegyed irányába, illetve vissza. Irigylésre méltó ez a tömeg a hotelek és éttermek szempontjából. Prágában jó előre kell foglalni szobát, vagy ebédet, vacsorát, annak ellenére, hogy a Staré Mestóban, vagyis az óvárosban szinte minden ház szálloda és vendéglő, mert ha valaki nem időben cselekszik, akkor nem talál üres helyet. Miért ilyen népszerű Prága? Sokféle választ lehet adni erre a kérdésre. Egyrészt viszonylag kis területen van sok látványosság, díszes terek, hidak, a vár. Másrészt a kanyargós utcácskák, a belső udvarok, a csarnokok, passzázsok hangulatossá teszik. Az épületeket mind felújították, különböző stílusokban lehet gyönyörködni, román boltozatok, gótikus ívek, reneszánszkori házak, buja barokk homlokzatok váltják egymást az utcaképben. A városháza híres órája sokakat vonz, főképp, ha éppen nem tatarozzák, mint most 2018 tavaszán. A Szent Miklós-templom, a Klementinum, a Kinsky-palota, a Boldogasszony-templom, a Fekete Istenanya háza, a régi-új zsinagóga és a zsidótemető, a Hradzsin tér, a Szent Vidus-templom, az arany utcácska, a Szent György-bazilika, a Vencel tér – mind ikonikus helyszíne a fővárosnak, amit nem szabad kihagyni. 30 • 2018 T avasz /Spring
A vibráló nyüzsgésű Prága következő nagy vonzereje a gasztronómiája. Se szeri, se száma a remek sörfőzdéknek. S az éttermeknek: a híres az U Fleku, a Svejk, s még sorolhatnánk tovább, mágnesként vonzza az embereket. Nem hagyja ki senki a cseh krumplilevest, vagy a cipóban tálalt gulyást, s csülköt, a kacsasültet párolt káposztával és knédlivel, azaz kenyérgombóccal, vagy a sertéslábszárat, s a nyílt lángon grillezett prágai sonkát! Az édességek közül messze viszi a prímet a parázson sütött kürtős kalács. Lépten-nyomon lehet kapni a prágai utcákon, húszféle variációban, kicsit, nagyot, vaníliakrémmel töltöttet, vagy fagyival tálaltat, tejszínhabosat, vagy csak fahéjasat. Szinte minden turista kezében látható egy kürtőskalács, ha az utcán sétálnak. A turistákat Prágában szép, régi típusú autókkal viszik körbe. Van olyan, amelyikben 6-8 ember is elfér. Nagyon hangulatos járművek ezek, s ha egy főre vesszük a 45 perces városnézés tarifáját, akkor a szolgáltatás ára is még éppen vállalható. Amúgy nagyon drága lett a cseh főváros. A belvárosi 4-5 csillagos szállodákban 45-60 ezer forint egy éjszaka, az éttermekben 4-5 ezer forint egy főétel, az utcán 700-800 forint egy üveg ásványvíz. Ez Prága meghatározó shopping centere. A parkolás nem könnyű Prágában. Néhány parkolóházban leteheti a turista az autóját egy kicsit olcsóbban, mintha a hotelek inassal történő parkoltatását választaná, amely éjszakánként „húzós”, 1015 ezer forint. Hány napot érdemes Prágára szánni? Sokan felteszik ezt a kérdést, főleg akkor, ha valaki európai körutat tervez. A válasz: 2 éjszaka és 3 nap alatt körbejárható a főváros, ennyi idő alatt a legszebb múzeumok és templomok megtekintésére is van lehetőség. Bár Prágában üzemel metró, sőt villamos is, de nagyon fontos, hogy mindenhova el lehet jutni gyalog. S ne hagyja ki senki a hajókázást se a Moldva folyón – főképp, ha jó idő van, s süt a nap! ■
The next great attraction of the vibrant bustling Prague is its gastronomy. There are also a great number of excellent breweries. And the restaurants: the famous U Fleku, the Svejk, etc. – they attract people like a magnet. No one fails to try the Czech potato soup or the goulash served in bread bowl, the trot, the roast duck with sauerkraut and dumplings, or the pork leg and the open flame grilled Prague ham. Of the sweets, the chimney cake is far the best, baked on ember. You can buy this on every corners of the city, in numberless variations, small, big, with custard or ice cream, with whipped cream or cinnamon. Almost every tourist has one on hand while strolling the city. The tourists in Prague are transported with old-style, beautiful convertable cars. Some of them can fit 6-8 people. These are very cosy vehicles, and if you count in the 45-minute sightseeing fee, the price is quite affordable. The Czech capital is however very expensive. The 4-5-star hotels in the city centre cost 45-60 thousand HUF per night, 4-5 thousand HUF for a main dish in the restaurants, and it’s 700-800 HUF for a bottle of water on the street. The Jet Set magazine recommends the Kings Court Hotel and the Art Deco Imperial Hotel, both walking distance from the old town, and the Palladium Shopping centre in the opposite direction, which is huge, full of world class brands. This is Prague’s most popular shopping centre. Parking isn’t easy in Prague either. There are a few parking houses, tourists can leave their cars a little bit cheaper than valet parking of the hotels, which can cost 10-15 thousand HUF per night. How many days to spend in Prague? Many ask this question, especially when making a European tour. The answer: 2 nights, 3 days is enough to see the capital, it’s possible to fit in the most beautiful museums and churches. Although there is an underground line and tram in Prague, you can also walk everywhere. And don’t miss cruising on the Vltava River – especially if the weather is good! ■
The Czech capital was full of people before Easter, defying the cold weather and heavy rain. Easter comes early in 2018, what will happen here in the Summer? The Charles Bridge over the Vltava River - which is the most beautiful - was so full of tourists we had difficulties crossing it in mid-March. People were trying to get to Hradzsin, the castle district, and back. This is great for the hotels and restaurants though. In Prague, you have to book rooms, lunches and dinners in great advance, because it’s hard to find space, despite the fact that in Staré Mestó (the old town), almost every house are hotels and restaurants. Why is Prague so popular? There are many answers to this question. On one hand, there are many spectacles, ornate squares, bridges, castle in a relatively small area. On the other hand, the mazy streets, the inner courtyards, halls and passages give the city a cosy feel. The buildings are all renovated in different styles. Romanian vaults, gothic arches, renaissance houses, lush baroque facades following each other on the street. The town hall’s famous clock attracts a lot of tourists, especially when it isn’t under construction, like now, Spring of 2018. The St. Nicholas Church, the Klementinum, the Kinsky Palace, the Church of Our Lady before Tyn, the House of the Black Madonna, the old-new Synagogue, Jewish Cemetery, Hradzin Square, the Saint Vidus Church, the Golden Street, the St. George Basilica, the Wenceslas Square – all iconic spectacles of the capital, shall not be missed. 2018 T avasz /Spring • 31

Tudta, hogy a fallal körbevett Óváros középpontjában található a világ legelső bevásárlóközpontja, a Posztócsarnok, mely a 13. században épült? Hogy a városka főtere az egyik legnagyobb középkori tér Európában? Üljön be egy kávézóba, igyon egy kapucsínót, egyen krémest, vagy kézműves csokoládét, s élvezze a nyüzsgést! Bámulja a konflisokat s vásároljon a Posztócsarnokban! A Szent Mária-székesegyház is a főtéren található, csodálatosan szép, kékre festett mennyezetével és híres, két szárnyú fából faragott oltárával a lengyel gótikus építészet remeke. A Városháza tornyából igazán szép a kilátás, ezt ne hagyja ki! Érdemes megcsodálni a falon kívüli csodás parkot is. Ha Krakkó történelmére kíváncsi, akkor a legjobb bevezetőt a Wawel, vagyis a magas dombon álló – ezért pazar kilátást nyújtó – vár biztosítja. A székesegyházat, a királyi fogadótermeket, a magánlakosztályokat, a Katedrális Múzeumot és a lenyűgöző értékeket felvonultató kincstárat és fegyvertárat nézegetve beleláthat egy kicsit a múltba. Krakkó évszázadokkal ezelőtt magához csábított lovagokat, papokat, szerzeteseket, kereskedőket, valamint az egykori Krakkói Akadémia számos, tanulni vágyó hallgatóját. Speciális kollégiumokban, szállodákban, kocsmákban, fogadókban voltak elszállásolva. Ma turisták tömegei érkeznek ide. Ha jót akar enni és mulatni, főleg a Schindler listájából is ismert régi zsidó negyedben (Kazimierz) találhat meg mindent, ami szem-szájnak ingere. Did you know that Cloth Hall, in the heart of the Old Town is the first shopping center in the world, built in the 13th century? That the town square is one of the largest medieval squares in Europe? Sit in a cafeteria, sip a cappuccino, eat a creamy French pastry or handcrafted chocolate and enjoy the bustle! Stare at the horse cabs for a while, and shop in the Cloth Hall! The St Mary Cathedral is also located on the Town Square, with its wonderful blue-painted ceiling and its famous two winged wooden altar, is a gem of Polish Gothic architecture. The view from the top of the Town Hall Tower is magnificent, you shouldn’t miss it. You should also visit the charming park surrounding the walls of the old town. If you are interested in Krakow’s history, the best place to start is the Wawel Castle, standing tall on a hill, providing fascinating panorama. Looking at the Cathedral, the Royal Reception Halls, the private suites, the Cathedral Museum and the impressive Treasury and Armory, you can have a glance at the past. Centuries ago, Krakow attracted knights, priests, monks, merchants, and many students who wanted to study at the former Krakow Academy. They were accommodated in special dormitories, hotels, pubs and inns. Today crowds of tourists arrive here. If you want good food and drink, you can find it all in the old Jewish Quarter (Kazimierz), which is also known from the movie Schindler’s list. Krakkó öreg belvárosában, közel a csodálatos, 1893-ban épített, barokk stílusú Juliusz Slowacki színházhoz, amelyet ugyanaz a Charles Garnier tervezett, aki a párizsi operaházat is megálmodta, található a Pijarska17 vendéglő. Ha szereti a lengyel konyhát, akkor egy ebédet, vagy vacsorát itt mindenképpen fogyasszon el! A Pijarska17 egész pontosan az egykori királyi út mentén helyezkedik el a Flórian kapunál, amely a város északi nyitott bejáratát védte, erre haladtak el a 15. században épült híres Barbican őrtoronytól a Wavel várba. Nincs az a turista manapság, aki ne járná be ugyanezt az utat, így szinte ki sem lehet kerülni a Pijarska17 éttermet. Én nem tudtam, de ma már tisztában vagyok vele: az a vendéglő, ahová beültem vacsorázni Krakkóban, 1875 óta üzemel. Vagyis a Pijarska17 maga a történelem. A lengyelek közkedvelt húsvéti levesével kezdtem a vacsorámat, mert ez az igazi ínyencség itt: zsurek lengyel kovászolt leves a neve. Közel áll a mi ízvilágunkhoz: a füstölt sonka leve és a kemény tojás nálunk is fontos szerepet játszik. Két dolog azért mégis szokatlan volt ebben az ételben: a házilag erjesztett rozskovász (zsur), a másik pedig a lengyelek fehér kolbásza, a kielbasa. Annyira finom volt, hogy el sem tudom mondani. Főételként talán nem is rendelhettem mást, mint húsos és káposztás lengyel pirogot. Ebben az étteremben maga a séf gyúrja tésztát ehhez a csodás ételhez, amelynek a neve valószínűleg a pir, lakoma szóból ered. Oroszországon kívül a többi szláv konyhában is ismert étel. A kelt tésztát készíthetik édesen vagy sósan, a tölteléktől függően. Ha sós tésztát készítenek, a töltelék lehet szinte bármilyen zöldség (káposzta, gomba, burgonya) vagy hús. Az édes tésztába pedig általában gyümölcsfélék (málna, szeder, eper, ribizli, alma, barack stb.) kerülnek. Ezután a töltött tésztabuckákat megkenik tojássárgájával, és vagy forró olajban, vagy sütőben sütik. Olyan nagy adagot kaptam, hogy alig bírtam megenni, de aztán mégis neki tudtam állni 10 perc múlva még egy lengyel főételnek, a tormaszósszal készített főtt füstölt marhanyelvnek, amely burgonyával érkezett. In Krakow’s Old Town, close to the magnificent Baroque-style Juliusz Slowacki Theater, built in 1893, designed by the same Charles Garnier, who invented the Paris Opera House, is the Pijarska17 inn. If you like Polish cuisine, then definitely have a lunch or dinner here! Pijarska17 is located exactly along the former royal road at the Flórian Gate, which protected the northern open gate of the city, people used to walk from the 15th century Barbican tower to Wavell Castle. There is no tourist today who would not go the same way, so there is no way to miss the Pijarska17 restaurant. I did not know before, but the restaurant I’ve been dining in Krakow has been operating since 1875. So Pijarska17 is history itself. I would call this restaurant a bistro that offers traditional Polish cuisine under the direction of Władysław Donimirski. I started my dinner with the popular Easter soup of the Polish, because this is the real treat here: Zurek, the sour rye soup. Similar to Hungarian cuisine, the smoked ham and the hard boiled eggs play an important part. Two things, however, were unusual in this dish: the home made sour rye (zsur) and the Polish white sausage. As a main dish, I could not order anything other than a meat and cabbage Polish pierogi. In this restaurant, the chef himself kneads the dough for this wonderful food, what’s name probably comes from the word pir, feast. In addition to Russia, this food is also known in other Slavic cuisines. The dough can be prepared sweet or savoury, depending on the filling. When preparing savoury dough, the filling can be almost any vegetable (cabbage, mushroom, potato) or meat, and in the sweet dough usually fruits (raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, currants, apples, apricots, etc.). Then the filled dough buckets are lubricated with egg yolk and cooked in hot oil or baking oven. I got such a big portion, I could hardly eat, but after 10 minutes I could try another Polish dish, beef tongue in horseradish sauce, which came with potatoes. The tongue was so soft it melted in my mouth, and the sauce was so special and delicious, I could not stop praising the chef. Dessert was a Krakow creamy french pastry.

Krakkó lenyűgöző város a Visztula partján. Bár Budapestről kocsival majdnem 6 óra alatt lehet odaérni, mert útközben legfeljebb 20-30 kilométernyi autósztráda van, de mégis megéri a fáradozást, mert remek hely egy hétvégére. A belváros, a konflisok, a sok templom, a vár, a zsidó negyed – mind elképesztően szép. Ha igazán elegáns hotelben szeretne megszállni, akkor az 5 csillagos Dwór Kościuszkó az ajánlott, amely ugyan 7 kilométerre van az öreg belvárostól, de a remek villamosösszeköttetése miatt mindössze pár perc bejutni a centrumba. A Hotel Dwór Kościuszkóban antik bútorokkal berendezett szobák vannak, mondják: ár-érték arányban ez a legjobb választás Krakkóban. Ezt e sorok írója is meg tudja erősíteni, s még tetézve a dolgot azzal, hogy remek étterme van a szállodának. A hotel-éttermeket sok turista elkerüli, de itt bátran vacsorázhat bárki, mert minőségi ételeket kap a pénzéért, s remek francia, olasz, lengyel, sőt magyar borokat is. Mi tradicionális lengyel ételeket választottunk a Zubrowka vodka aperitif után. A bölényfű, vagy más néven illatos szent perje, ami a Zubrowka vodka egyik alapanyaga, nem csak egy látványosság a vodkás üvegben, hanem ez adja az ital jellegzetes ízét és színét is. A lengyel–fehérorosz határ környékén fekvő Białowieża Nemzeti Park tisztásain nő ez a fű, aki itt jár, feltétlenül kóstolja meg ezt az italt! Braszcz levessel kezdtük a vacsorát, amely nemcsak csodásan volt tálalva, hanem az íze Michelin-csillagos nívót tükrözött. A pazar céklaleves után párolt fogast rendeltünk lengyel módra, keményre főtt fürjtojással, Portobello gombákkal és párolt burgonyával. Ez kellemesen könnyű fogásnak bizonyult, mint ahogy a félszáraz lengyel Noole Blance fehérbor is. A tányért többek között ehető virágok is díszítették. A desszertek közül tetszett az étlapon a krakkói stílusú sajttorta csokoládészósszal, sokáig szemeztünk is vele, de végül mégis az almás pite csábított el minket, amelyet vaníliaöntettel és egy gombóc fagyival tálaltak. A Hotel Dwór Kościuszkó étterme kifejezetten elegáns, s vacsora után mindenkit vár a szálloda kaszinója az alagsorban. Mi is betértünk ide, s meglepett, hogy milyen nagy tömeg volt, annak ellenére, hogy hétköznap jártunk ott. A rulett- és a kártya-asztalok, valamint a játékgépek mellett felfigyeltünk egy svédasztalra is, amely finomságokkal volt elhalmozva, aki akart, az folyamatosan eszegethetett. A szerencsések visszanyerhetik a kaszinóban a hotelszobájuk vagy éppen a vacsorájuk árát, persze erre egyáltalán nincs garancia… ■

One of the most elegant places in Krakow, the Hotel Dwór Kościuszko!
Krakow is a stunning city on the banks of the Vistula River. Although it takes almost 6 hours by car from Budapest to get there, with only 20 to 30 kilometers of motorway, but it is worth the effort because it is a great place for a weekend. The downtown, the hansom cabs, the many churches, the castle, the Jewish quarter - are all amazingly beautiful. If you want to stay in a truly elegant hotel, the 5-star Dwór Kościuszko is recommended in the Kościuszko Park, which is 7 km from the Old Town, but only a few minutes to get to the center due to the excellent tram connection. Hotel Dwór Kościuszko features antique furnishings, and is said to be the best choice in value for money in Krakow. This information can be confirmed by the authors of this article, furthermore, it has an excellent restaurant. Many tourists avoid hotel-restaurants, but you can rest easy to dine here, because you get quality meals for your money and great French, Italian, Polish and even Hungarian wines. We chose traditional Polish dishes after the wonderful Zubrowka vodka aperitif. The bison grass, also known as the fragrant holy hay, which is one of the ingredients of Zubrowka vodka, is not only a spectacle in the vodka bottle, but it also gives the typical flavor and color of the drink. This grass grows in a national park near the Polish – Belarus border, if you are in Poland, don’t miss to taste this alcoholic beverage. We started a dinner with Barszcz soup, which was not only eye-catchingly served, but tasted like a Michelin-star dish. After the polish beetroot soup, we ordered polish style poached zander with hard boiled quail eggs, Portobello mushroom and boiled potatoes. It was a pleasantly light dish, just like the semi-dry Polish Noole Blance white wine. Our plate was decorated with, among other things, edible flowers. From the dessert menu, we liked the Krakow style cheese cake with chocolate sauce. We hesitated long before I ordered, but after all, we were tempted by the apple pie served with vanilla sauce, and a scoop of ice cream. The portion was so big,we could barely eat it. Hotel Dwór Kościuszko’s restaurant is particularly elegant and after dinner you should not sleep just yet, because everyone is welcome at the hotel’s casino in the basement. We also took a look in there, and we were surprised how stuffed it was, even though it was a week night. In addition to the roulette and card tables, and gaming machines, we also noticed a buffet table, which was packed with delicacies that all the guests could snack on. Krakkó mellett található ez a világon egyedülálló sóbánya Lengyelországban. A legenda szerint Kingának, IV. Béla magyar király lányának köszönhető, hogy sót találtak itt. Mikor az ifjú magyar hercegnő feleségül ment Boleszláv lengyel herceghez, azt mondta édesapjának, nem kér aranyat és ékszereket nászajándékba, mert ezek csak boldogtalanságot és könnyeket hoznak. Olyasmit kért, ami segíti az emberek megélhetését új otthonában. Senki sem tudta, miért, de sót kért, ezért szerető apja a máramarosi sóbányákat ajándékozta neki. Mindenki meglepetésére a bányához érve a folyóba dobta gyűrűjét. Amikor Lengyelországba ért, csapatot bízott meg, hogy keressék a gyűrűt. Krakkó közelében meg is találták, Wieliczkában, egy hatalmas só tömb közepén. Elnevezték latinul Magnum Salnak, lengyel fordításban Wielka Sólnak (Nagy Sónak). A legenda szerint Kinga így hozta el a lengyeleknek a só luxusát… A só a következő lengyel királyok egyik legfontosabb jövedelemforrásává vált a középkorban, akárcsak napjainkban Wieliczka számára, amely egyrészről idegenforgalmi attrakciót, másrészről szanatóriumot, harmadrészről koncerttermet, negyedrészről templomot is jelent a turisták legnagyobb örömére. Wieliczka 1978-ban felkerült az UNESCO világörökség listájára. A wieliczkai bányában 9 szintet különböztetnek meg, melyekből az első – a Bono szint – 64 méter mélyen van, míg az utolsó 327 méter mélyen fekszik. A tárnák összes hossza az összekötő folyosókkal, tavakkal, termekkel, aknákkal együtt meghaladja a 300 kilométert, össztérfogatuk pedig mintegy 7,5 millió m³. Located next to Krakow, Poland this salt mine is unique in the world. According to the legend, they found salt here thanks to the daughter of IV. Bela, Hungarian king. When the young Hungarian princess married Polish prince Boleslaw, he told his father she doesn’t want gold and jewellery as a wedding present because these only bring unhappiness and tears. She asked for something that helps people’s livelihood in her new home. No one knew why, but she asked for salt, so his loving father gave her the salt mines of Marmaros. Everyone was surprised, when getting to the mine, she dropped her ring inside. Upon arriving to Poland, she entrusted a team to look for the ring. It was found near Krakow, in Wieliczka, in the middle of a huge salt block. It was named Latin in Magnum Sal, in Polish translation by Wielka Sól. (Great Salt). According to the legend, that’s how Kinga brought the luxury of salt to the polish people. Salt has become one of the most important sources of income for the Polish kings in the Middle Ages, as it is today for Wieliczka, which is a tourist attraction on one hand, on the other hand, a sanatorium, and thirdly a concert hall, and even a church for the delight of tourists. Wieliczka was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1978. There are 9 levels in the Wieliczka mine, the first of which - the Bono level - is 64 meters deep while the last lies 327 meters deep. The total length of the gallows with the connecting corridors, lakes, halls and mines exceeds 300 kilometres and their total volume is about 7.5 million m³. The world-famous underground hiking trail of the Wieliczka mine developed at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. About one million tourists visit the 64-135m (Level I-III), 20 room, 3 km long trail a year. The tour takes about 2 hours, and in the depths, there is a café, a restaurant and a souvenir shop, so you can spend some time there. Tourists like the St Kinga Chapel the most, which is also called the underground church. The holy relics of Kinga are here. This is the main attraction of the Salt Mine, as this hall is the largest underground church in the world. It is 101 meters deep, its length is 54 m, its width is 18 m and its height is 12 m. Its floor is of salt rock carved tiles, chandeliers made of huge salt crystals hanging from the ceiling in 12 meters high. The chapel is embellished with the reliefs of scenes from the New Testament (including „Escape From Egypt”, „The Twelve Jesus Teaches in the Church” and „Last Supper”) and a more than a hundred-year-old nativity. The main altar is Józef Markowski’s work, including the two sides, the statue of St. Kinga, the statues of St. Joseph and St. Kelemen. Since 1999, the statue of Pope John Paul II is to be found here, a work of Stanisław Anioł, local miner. In the chapel, mass is held on the day of St. Kinga and St. Borbála, and on Christmas Day. Thanks to the excellent acoustics, there are concerts organized in the chapel. Usually everyone is tired after the 2 hour tour, and happy to see that doesn’t have to climb the stairs all the way up, but an elevator takes the guests to the surface.

VIKING ORION The fifth ocean ship to be launched by Viking Cruises in three years, Viking Orion will be identical to her siblings (Viking Star, Viking Sea, Viking Sun, and Viking Sky), offering the familiarity and sleek Scandinavian design that made the line a pioneer in river cruising. The 930-passenger ship features five restaurants, six bars, and an atmospheric spa (there is no casino). After its June 19th inaugural from Barcelona to Venice, Viking Orion will cruise a trio of itineraries in the Mediterranean and Adriatic until mid-August, before heading to India and Southeast Asia (through November) and the South Pacific and Australia (through March 2019). AZAMARA PURSUIT When she sails on August 1 from Southampton on a 12-night Norway Intensive itinerary, the 690-passenger Azamara Pursuit will become the third ship in the Azamara Club Cruises’ fleet. And like her siblings, she’s not a new build (all were originally R-class ships in the former Renaissance fleet), but is undergoing an extensive refurbishment to create contemporary interiors that include seven restaurants and lounges (there is no casino). After spending September and October in the Mediterranean and Greek Isles, Azamara Pursuit will cross the Atlantic to embark on South American itineraries through March 2019. New direct flight from Budapest to Chicago! Hosszú évek óta nincs direkt légi járat a magyar fővárosból az Egyesült Államokba. De 2018-ban megtört a jég. 2018. májustól például heti két direkt járat indul hazánkból a csodás, felhőkarcolókkal teli Chicagóba. Saját tapasztalataink alapján bátran állíthatjuk, Chicago benne van a TOP 3-ban az amerikai városok ranglistáján – látványosságok tekintetében. Nyilván New York és Los Angeles a 2 fő „versenytársa” a városnak, ha arra kíváncsi, hogy mely USA településekkel vetekszik attrakciókban. Chicago szerencsés fekvésű, hiszen csaknem az USA közepén van, így innen két óra továbbrepülni a keleti parti városokba, s csak 4 óra 30 perc elérni a nyugati partot. Könnyű tehát összekötni egyéb városlátogatásokkal is. A minimum, amit ajánlhatunk: 72 óra Chicagóban. Persze ennél több azért jobb. A choosechicago.com turisztikai honlapon minden fontos információt megtalálhat arról, hogy mit érdemes feltétlenül megnézni a városban, de azért néhány extra látványosságot most mégis kiemelnénk. Az első napon érdemes körbemenni a városon a Big Bus cég buszával. Kellemes étálni a Chicagót átszelő folyó partján, vagy hajókázni, s csodálják meg a pazar felhőkarcolókat! Délután nézzék meg a Shedd akváriumot, ahol Beluga bálnák is láthatók a 32 ezer egyéb tengeri állat mellett! S ne hagyják ki a Skydeck Chicago kilátót, itt üvegaljú padlózaton át nézhetnek le a mélybe, ami lélegzetelállító! There was no direct flight from the Hungarian capital to the United States for many years. But in 2018 the ice broke. For example, two direct flights will depart a week, from our home to the wonderful, skyscraper city of Chicago, from the beginning of May 2018. Based on our own experiences, we can boldly say that Chicago is included in TOP 3 in the ranking of American cities - with regards to attractions. Obviously, New York and Los Angeles are the 2 "contestants" of the city if you are wondering which other US cities have the best attractions. Chicago has a fortunate location, it lays almost in the middle of USA, so it`s only two hours to fly further to the East Coast cities, and only 4 hour 30 minutes to reach the West Coast. It`s easy to make other city tours from here. The least we recommend is: 72 hours in Chicago. More is better of course. You can find all the most important information on what to see in the city on the choosechicago.com tourist site, but we would like to highlight some extra attractions. The first day is worth getting around the city with the Big Bus company. Have a nice walk on the banks of the river crossing Chicago or take a cruise tour to look at the magnificent skyscrapers. In the afternoon, check out the Shedd Aquarium, where you can see Beluga wheels, among 32 thousand other marine animals. Do not miss out on the Skydeck Chicago Lookout, where the floor is made of glass, and it`s breath taking to see the depth below you. For the evening, we recommend the Gibson Bar and Steakhouse, and a drink after at Cindy`s Rooftop Bar.
A második napon menjenek ki a Michigan-tó partjára, s tegyenek egy kellemes hajókirándulást! Ha jó idő van, akkor napozzanak, fürödjenek a tóparton! Utána menjenek be a belvárosba, s nézzék meg a világ második legnagyobb áruházát, a State utcában lévő Macy’s plazát! S tanulmányozzák a Michigan Avenue luxusbutikjainak a kínálatát is, még akkor is jó program, ha nem vesznek semmit! Délután a Navy Peirben vezessen a program, a kikötőben sok a látványosság! Üljenek fel itt az óriáskerékre, s csodás városi panorámában lehet részük! Ez után javaslom a Crystal Gardens hatemeletes fedett botanikus kert meglátogatását. Este vacsorázzanak a 312 Chicago nevű olasz vendéglőben! A harmadik napon kezdjék a Millenium Parkban, majd menjenek el a Lincoln Park állatkertbe! Délután kerékpározzanak egy kicsit, lehet bérelni sok helyen bicikliket a városban! A The 606 kerékpárút a legjobb, ha ezen végigmennek, nem fogják megbánni. Csak 4 kilométer hosszú, s meg is állhatnak közben bekapni pár falatot több kisvendéglőben is. Ha már kerékpároznak, el lehet tekerni a Buckingham szökőkúthoz is, nagyon szép. Estére a Naoki Sushi éttermet válasszák a Lincoln Parkban, de ha nem szeretik a japán ételeket, akkor menjenek a The Blanchardba, amely francia konyhát kínál! Éjszakára a város két legjobb jazz klubját javasoljuk, ezek a Green Mill Jazz Club, illetve az Andy’s Jazz Club. A kosárlabda rajongóknak egy ötlet: a Chicago Bulls egyik meccsét megnézni elképesztő élmény. Az a hangulat, ami ott van, felfoghatatlan, utánozhatatlan.
On the second day, go to the Lake Michigan and take a nice boat trip. If the weather is good, have a swim or sunbathe at the lake, there are plenty of beautiful beaches along the shore. After that, go to the downtown and check out the second largest mall of the world in State Street, the Macy`s Plaza. Also, look at the luxury boutiques on Michigan Avenue, it`s interesting even if you don`t buy anything. Head to the Navy Pier in the afternoon, there`s a lot to see in the harbor. Take a ride on the Ferris-wheel to see the beautiful panorama. Then I suggest visiting the Crystal Gardens six-story covered botanical garden. In the evening, dine at the 312 Chicago Italian restaurant. On day three, start at Millennium Park and then head to Lincoln Park Zoo. Take a bicycle tour in the afternoon, there are many rental stations all around the city. The 606-bicycle rout is the best, you wont regret riding along. It is only 4 kilometres long, and you can even stop by the several small restaurants to have a snack. If you are on the bike anyway, ride to the Buckingham water fountain, it`s beautiful. Tonight`s choice should be the Naoki Sushi Restaurant in Lincoln Park, or The Blanchard French cuisine in case you don`t like Japanese food. We recommend the two best jazz clubs of the city for the night, which are the Green Mill Jazz Club and the Andy`s Jazz Club. For the basketball lovers: it`s amazing to see a Chicago Bulls match at live. The atmosphere there is unbelievable and inimitable.
