NURSING, PUBLIC, AND ALLIED HEALTH UNDERGRADUATE

NURSING, PUBLIC AND ALLIED HEALTH Are you able to think clearly and act with compassion in times of challenge? If so, join us at the forefront of nursing, public and allied health at Liverpool John Moores University. Our courses combine practical experience with academic rigour, preparing you to make a meaningful impact on both individual patients and wider communities. Whether your focus is clinical care, emergency response or population health, you will graduate with the knowledge, skills and confidence to make a real difference. Students on our nursing, midwifery and paramedic science courses gain extensive hands-on experience through placements across a wide range of health and social care settings. Depending on your degree subject, you may learn to safeguard vulnerable people, provide access to essential services; or support women and families during pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period. Our Midwifery, Adult, Child and Mental Health Nursing degrees are approved and monitored by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Our Paramedic Science degree is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), with opportunities for placements through the North West Ambulance Service. For those already working in healthcare, our top-up degrees allow Nursing Associates to build on their professional experience and qualifications, and become a registered nurse.

Alongside our clinical degrees, our Environmental Health and Social Care courses focus on improving the health and wellbeing of individuals, families and wider communities. They explore the social, environmental and economic factors that influence health, and the role of public policy in preventing illness and reducing health inequalities. You will develop the skills needed to inform policy, support vulnerable populations, educate communities and protect public health. Our Environmental Health degree is professionally accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, ensuring your learning meets industry standards and prepares you for a career in regulatory and community health roles. The technology-enhanced teaching environments in our Tithebarn Building provide the realism necessary to prepare you to meet the challenges of providing care to real-life patients and service users. Our facilities will enable you to simulate many different scenarios relating to real life patient journeys – including home, ambulance and hospital settings.

The biggest challenge I’ve faced since coming to university has been raising a family, doing part-time work whilst being on placement or in university, and writing assignments - but the support network here is amazing and the challenges have been great. • Dual field NMC registration opens up more career opportunities than being registered in a single field

WORK-RELATED LEARNING The programme is 50% practice and 50% theory. You will undertake blocks of practice placements and blocks of theory-based learning. Each week covers 40 hours. Work-based learning will include hospitals, nursing homes, walk-in-centres and acute settings and a simulated practice placement in years 1,2 and 3. This gives you an invaluable opportunity to learn from experienced nursing practitioners while experiencing the full 24-hour working pattern. All placements are in the Cheshire and Merseyside area however; we cannot guarantee that they will all be close to your home.

CAREER PROSPECTS Once you have successfully completed your degree, you can apply for NMC registration as a nurse in both fields: you will have two entries on the register. This means you can apply for Band 5 roles in either field, across the NHS, private, or voluntary sectors. There are also a growing number of new opportunities for nurses registered in two fields. This is due to the increasingly integrated nature of health service delivery and the demand for practitioners who can work with complex conditions across the lifespan, and within different settings. Your dual registration can give you the edge, making you highly employable to healthcare providers. After entering practice, some graduates realise a passion for a particular area, such as community health nursing, and go on to achieve further qualifications enabling them to apply for specialist roles. Others may aspire to develop their nursing career in higher education teaching, research or management. Another benefit of dual registration is your ability to evidence postgraduate (level 7) study. This means you may be able to access education linked to advanced nursing roles more easily.
