EXCELLENT INDUSTRY LINKS

PROFESSIONAL ACCREDITATION

Thanks to our close partnerships with industry, our courses are responsive to the changing needs of government, local communities, industry and professional practice. Partners work with us to provide ‘real life’ industrial projects for assessments, as well as delivering guest lectures and facilitating site visits.

All of our property, construction and surveying degrees are fully accredited by organisations such as the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Chartered Institute of Building and Chartered Institute of Architectural Technicians.

You will also have a wide range of opportunities to complete work-related learning, both at the University and out in industry. Such experience will help enhance your professional skills development and enable you to put what you have learnt at LJMU into practice out in the workplace. If you choose to complete a year-long paid placement, our dedicated Placement Learning Support team will help you identify potential employers and support you while you are out working. A large number of organisations also take part in our annual employers’ day and get involved in employer interest/support groups. Activities like these give you the best possible chance of securing a placement and are useful contacts for future employment opportunities.

STUDY IN LIVERPOOL CITY CENTRE The School of Engineering and Built Environment is located at the Byrom Street complex in LJMU’s City Campus, in the heart of Liverpool city centre. In addition to Schoolspecific facilities and resources, Byrom Street has a large Starbucks café, social spaces plus high quality meeting and seminar rooms and lecture theatres. The Avril Robarts Library is also located just minutes away on Tithebarn Street.

WE WANT YOU TO GET A JOB AFTER GRADUATION WHY?

DEGREE APPRENTICESHIPS @LJMU

Every single one of our undergraduate students has the opportunity to do a yearlong industry placement (last year 100% of students who took up a placement got a graduate job)

A degree apprenticeship is a route into work-based learning that enables apprentices to achieve a full degree while developing practical skills in the workplace.

n

n

Employer engagement – every year we host up to 100 companies from a multitude of engineering and technology sectors at our jobs fair

n

We offer a range of opportunities to gain experience outside of the lecture hall, for example you could go on a site visit or travel abroad to maximise your skillset.

• The apprentice spends 80% of their time at work and a minimum of 6hrs per week off the job learning which includes studying part time • Offers a more practical and work- related approach to gaining a qualification • Apprentices need to meet the entry requirements for the degree, just like any other student • There are no tuition fees for the apprentice. Apprenticeship training is funded through employer and Government apprenticeship funding NB: If you aren’t already employed by a company that is willing to take you on as an apprentice, you’ll need to find one. You can do this by regularly checking the Government’s Find an apprenticeship website.

ALUMNI PERSPECTIVE I graduated from LJMU’s Quantity Surveying course in 2024, and less than two years later I became RICS Chartered, achieved NEC4 Project Manager accreditation, and was promoted to Cost Consultant (Manager Level) at Mace Consult. Since graduating, I’ve worked on major projects across the UK and internationally, giving me the chance to travel and collaborate with teams around the world. My placement year was invaluable, providing real industry experience and helping me move smoothly from university into a professional role. I’ve also enjoyed staying connected with LJMU and sharing my experiences with current students. Peter McKillop, Cost Consultant at Mace Consultant and Quantity Surveying graduate 2024

Since I started at LJMU, my eyes have been opened to so many career opportunities. I have dreams of what I want to do and LJMU is helping to make those dreams a reality. Jacey Brown, current student
