Interest rates unlikely to go into negative territory The Reserve Bank of Australia announced that the cash rate will be held at 0.25% with the Board re-affirming it will not increase the rate until progress is being made towards full employment and it is confident that inflation will be sustainably within the 2–3% target band.

Ms Nerida Conisbee, chief economist at realestate.com. au, said she believes interest rates probably won’t be cut any further as the Reserve Bank continues to look at quantitative easing to make sure that the financial system continues to operate.

“We’ll continue to see more fiscal measures announced, so major infrastructure projects and the like. We’ve got the budget coming up in a few months so that will be really interesting to see what is proposed.”
