Caring about loCal Community matters from te Puna to Waihī beaCh

Te Rā o Waitangi By Paula Gaelic e Rā o Waitangi Katikati 2025 was so special in many ways. Everyone really came together to celebrate as a community. Mana whenua really demonstrated manaakitanga, hospitality, kindness and support and the workshops were overflowing and busy the whole time. People were sharing their skills and traditions after a very welcoming mihi whakatau from kaumātua Sam Tangiia from Te Rereatukahia. He shared the sentiment of everyone who attended that Te Rā o Waitangi for all of us was community and unity. The food vendors made comment that the vibe, great music and community spirit had made the event one they won’t forget. This was the first time we have had a ‘festival’ type Waitangi event so next year will be even better. Western Bay Museum Facebook page has been overloaded with beautiful and encouraging comments. Kia kaha Katikati.
