A FALL ORDER

And just like that, summer is done! Bring on the fall season, with all its autumnal goodness like sweater weather, pumpkin special editions, and bags on bags of snackable Halloween candy.

There’s also something else to look forward to this year that’s entirely new - our first ever Wellness & Lifestyle Awards! We scoured the city for our fave brands earlier this year, from gyms and yoga studios to homeware brands and holistic wellness centres, and asked you, our esteemed readers, to cast your votes for the best in the biz. Along with our crack team of judges and a math whiz sibling to help calculate along the way, we’ve finally announced the winners of the 2020 WLA Awards! See who ranked most favourably on p.14.

Did you know that most retinol uses animal byproducts like fish liver oil or egg yolks? If you’re trying to be more ethical about your skincare routine, consider the case for bakuchiol, a totally plant-based alternative to retinol. We explain how it works and which beauty brands are using it on p.32.

Diets come and go, but eating like a monk will never go out of style. This month we also explored the ancient culinary tradition of temple food, the cuisine that Buddhist monks and nuns in South Korea pioneered. Find out why it’s catching on with non-monastic foodies on p.10.
