Welcome to the 19th annual High Bluff Stock Farm Bull Sale Thank you for taking the time to look through our catalog and for considering High Bluff Stock Farm bulls and females for your herd. This is our 19th sale but only the third sale that we’ve included replacement females!

On the bull side to meet the variety of our customers’ needs we have easy calvers and performance bulls in both the Charolais and Simmental breeds, no matter the breed or style all have been selected for disposition and sound structure, no exceptions. If you are able to stop by we’d be pleased to take you through the bulls before the sale or give us a call anytime to talk about your herdsire needs. We love talking cattle and finding a bull that will be a good fit for your herd.

On the female side we’re pleased to be offering females in our sale again this year. At the time of writing we’ve had a few folks send us pictures of their females purchased last year with a fresh healthy calf at side with beautiful udders and that’s just what we like to see. These are honest hard working females that could go into commercial or purebred herds alike, we’d be happy to help identify which females would match your needs.

Covid of course brought challenges to the last couple years sales. We would like to thank everyone for adapting quickly to the limitations the last couple years while continuing to support our program. This year our plan is to have an in-person sale. We would love to see you on sale day, but please do whatever you are comfortable doing, whether that is coming to the sale or staying home and bidding on the phone or on DLMS or leaving a bid with any of us or our sales team. Our pens are available to tour anytime, we would love to tour you through them anytime prior to the sale. Videos of the bulls and heifers will be posted on-line at cattlevids.ca On the family front we have a new grandson Farley, and there is a Doonanco baby arriving this summer. We’re so lucky to get to spend so much quality time with all of our family throughout the year. The contributions of our family and the folks who work on the farm, who pretty much are family, can’t go understated. Their contributions are fundamental to making our operation run successfully and smoothly.

For many reasons it’s been a challenging year. It really has shown the resiliency, dedication and determination of everyone. Cattle markets are looking strong, beef demand is high, things are looking up! We’re looking forward to spending another year doing all the things we love.

The bulls are fully guaranteed to be a breeding bull as outlined by the Charolais and Simmental Breeder’s Guarantee Guidelines. Semen tests will be done when recommended by our veterinarian. High Bluff Stock Farm reserves the right to be the first to know about any problems you might have with your bull. Should any bull fifteen months of age or over fail to prove a breeder after being used on females known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller immediately when the problem is detected. The matter shall be reported in writing to the seller, enclosing a report prepared by a licensed veterinarian, within six months following the date of purchase or date of first exposure, or six months after the bull has reached 15 months of age. Any bull that does not prove to be a satisfactory breeder will be returned to High Bluff Stock Farm at the buyers expense. The seller will have the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. Should the bull prove to be a breeder, he will be returned to the buyer, and the matter will be considered closed. If the bull fails his semen test or proves not to be a breeder we will replace your bull with another bull of equal quality or lend you a bull to make sure your cows get bred or give you a sales credit. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze.

We are committed to raising cattle the best we can in the environment we have.

Animal health, temperament, fitness and longevity are important to us and key to our own and our customers success. The bulls are developed on a TMR ration of silage, chopped hay, rolled barley, corn, minerals and vitamins as well as free choice hay. We work with a nutritionist to make sure all of our cattle’s dietary needs are met. We have a complete herd health and vaccination program with Roblin Vet Clinic. Prior to the sale bulls will be measured and inspected by one of the vets at Roblin Vet Clinic. All bulls have been treated with Ivermectin twice.

We have room in our pens and can keep your bull at no cost until May 1. After May 1 we will keep your bulls for $2.00/day until you are ready for him. Bulls left at the farm must be insured. High Bluff Stock Farm is not liable for injury or mortality if left at the farm.

Right to Semen

We reserve the right to draw semen on any bull in the sale for in herd use, at our expense and the buyer’s convenience.

Delivery Yes, we can make sure your bull gets to your farm free of charge up to 200 km. Other destinations can be arranged at cost. We will start delivering bulls on March 22nd at our convenience; otherwise pick-up will be available at the farm. Delivery is between March 22nd and May 1st.

For US purchases we will split delivery costs to the border crossing. The buyer is responsible for vet and border costs.

Welcome from Transcon Livestock Corp The Charolais breed is probably the most attractive, economically-driven breed in Canada right now! I would commend Charolais breeders on a whole and say, give yourselves a big pat on the back for developing the Charolais of today’s world, that are designed by intention to be profitable. You also have the best catch-phrase in my opinion, NO TAG REQUIRED, love it! Now this leads me to the HBSF program whom have bred for all the right things into their Charolais herd as good as anybody. As many of you know, we tour many of the Western Canadian herds and the Jacksons’ cowherd and annual bullpen stands among the best.

Herdsires have always been an important and continued research project at HBSF. As a new sire group represented with several sons are the “Mescalitos”! They pack the payweight with their exceptional length and appropriate frame. These guys are handsome as well, possessing a proud presence.

“Game On”, owned by Alberta breeders, KSL, has one son who was a successful winning member of last fall’s display team. The “Game On” sons are thick and attain that heavy hair-coat that has been purposefully bred into them.

Well you would have to be living under a rock if you haven’t seen or heard of the impact the “Triumph” bloodline has had on recent Charolais sales.

The interesting part is this line, whether it be 2135 himself or his son 50B, these very impressive cattle are etched deeply into the program here at High Bluff! Several direct sons from Triumph 2135 & 50B are included but also many of the top end bulls are mothered by “Triumph” daughters!

It could be argued that “Hank” put High Bluff on the Charolais map. Nostalgic reasons of proven genetics plus the fantastic daughters this great breed legend left still keeps him a part of today’s breeding program. Sons available!

Some fresh genes, with a calving ease derivative, come through another new sire group in the “Tried and True” sons. These flashy guys will work well on the younger females in your herd.

Earlier I praised the Charolais breed for a job well done, but “giving credit where credit is due”, let’s turn to the Simmental breed. Simmentals are solidly entrenched as a base in the nation’s commercial cowherd, and for good reason. The same breeding principles have applied to the SM herd as to the CH side at High Bluff.

Resident walking herdsire, “Driller”, has another excellent group of sons on offer. “Driller” boasts a very notable pedigree, namely being a maternal brother to the great KOP Crosby! “Driller”, like his famous brother, posses the ability to leave fantastic male and female offspring, with bombproof personalities. Disposition is an economic trait in today’s industry and the Driller progeny get an A+ for that!

Some nostalgia also exists in the Simmi group with sons of the breed foundation sire, Circle S Leachman 600U. They have great length combined with a smooth profile.

“289G” has his first set of sons on offer. This is a uniform group of well patterned bulls that anybody could use.

“Playmaker” is an A.I. sire that was incorporated into the breeding program last year and has a good group to represent him.

Not a lot of registered High Bluff females are ever offered to the public, but a select group have become part of the bull sale in recent years. This is a great way to tap into a program like this, take your pick, Charolais or Simmental, or both!

We decided to keep a semen interest in JJ’s sire High Bluff Game On 78G who was purchased by KSL Simmentals and Charolais and we’re sure glad we did!

High Bluff JJ 85J is an attractive bull that catches your eye when you walk in the pen.

He’s a nicely made bull who is smooth made but well muscled and soft sided, with a tremendous amount of depth of body and natural thickness. He’s clean fronted LT LEDGER 0332 P with a good-looking skull. He has that herd bull presence, lots of nuts, a ton of hair DRD LEDGER STAR 942D PFC705535 and a nice big foot under him. As an extra bonus he is about as good-natured as they JWX RED RUBY 942B come. He might just be the easiest animal to halter break we have ever worked on.

He has had a successful show career winning Intermediate Champion Charolais bull calf PERFORMANCE EPD’s at Agribition, and Judges and Peoples Choice at the International Charolais virtual show.

The Triumph x HD cross might be one of our favourite tried and proven combinations to get a standout bull with a lot of presence and power. Johan is a bull that really commands your attention in the pen with his presence. He is a proud, attractive made bull that is masculine through the front end with an attractive and masculine head. His hip and thick hair coat are a nice added bonus. He is a bull that almost always meets you at the gate, where he is looking into the heifer pen. He is a late March born bull calf that has no problem keeping up with his older pen-mates. He has an impressive weaning weight and ranks in the top 2 and 3% of both weaning and yearling weights. His dam Easy Haida 110A is a Polled Full French cow that has been a solid producer here, registering 7/7 calves and has a Curtis Wallace baby on the ground this year. Jones is a Triumph 2135 bull that we had our eye on all summer. Jones and his Casanova dam made a good-looking pair in the pasture. He is an attractive, smooth made, nice headed bull that goes back to the Laura cow family. We currently have 4 females and the matriarch DIG 941W herself still working here in our herd. 941W is a great uddered, youthful looking, hard working female that is still in our herd raising another top notch calf this year. Jones' dam HBSF 27E is a nicely made, moderate Casanova female with a nice udder and a good disposition. We are very happy with the Casanova females in production in our herd. They are structurally correct, nicely shaped with good udders. With the combination of Triumph and Laura genetics you know there is longevity and predictability backing this bull. This is a bull we would feel very comfortable using in a 2nd calver pasture.

We’re pretty excited about the tan bulls on offer this year! HBSF Jack Daniels 124J is a bull we strongly considered bringing in to take on the show road, and maybe we should have, but we were trying to keep our show numbers more manageable this year so we didn’t. The presence, masculinity, depth, volume and muscle shape this bull possesses is admirable. He has a nice masculine head and really possesses the characteristics we look for in a herd bull. His dam is a dark red female with an excellent udder. She’s only produced females before for our herd, so we were pretty excited when she had a bull calf. She has a Hendrix red bull calf beside her this year. Jack Daniels is darker than he appears in his picture.

Here’s a solid, hairy, soggy, structurally sound horned Hank son with a great disposition. Yes you read that right, an original Cougarhill Hank son. We’re kicking it old school to get more of the predictable genetics that we and our commercial cattle people know and love. When we think about Cougarhill Hank we think - predictability, longevity, length of body, disposition and hair.

Some things never change in raising cattle, these are still qualities we strive for today. His dam is a big bodied, good-looking, tan Red Vinaza cow with a bit of extra punch. Jameson has 2 nice looking maternal sisters working in the herd. And a few paternal sisters as well. We’re excited to add some Hank genetics back into our herd.

Another solid Cougarhill Hank son on offer that we think follows suit closely to his sire. High Bluff Johnny Walker is a complete, loose made, hairy, bull with a great hip and muscle expression. These might be old school genetics but he fits right in with the top end of our bullpen. You really have to appreciate the thick haircoat that Game On stamps his calves with.They all have it, and what an asset especially on a winter like this. While it’s never our favourite when the dam of one of our high sellers from last year has twins, it does happen. The last few months this Game On calf has really taken off and there is a lot of natural thickness, and softness to appreciate. You are going to have to search long and hard to find a bull with this much jam and performance backed by maternal strength and predictability. Jefferson is a powerful, complete made bull, with a nice big foot underneath of him. He has that herd bull presence and has a nice head.

A moderate made bull with lots of natural muscling and thickness that is soft in his makeup. The Judge’s dam is the one and only EGC Muchmore 72P, a family favourite for years and the matriarch of the Lashes cow family. We think very highly of 72P and her daughters. We’re pretty excited about the offspring from flushing 77B to Playmaker! Jager is a dark red, well balanced, eye appealing, nicely muscled Playmaker son that we rank highly. He has a gorgeous, powerful full sister in the replacement pen. We have been very happy with our Playmaker offspring, a nice combination of calving ease and performance, backed by a solid set of EPD’s. His calves are born vigorous and with a nice dark coat colour.

Jago is an attractive made, soft sided, hairy, Epic son that we like quite a lot with a super disposition and a nice hind quarter. 3 years of using Epic in our heifer pen and he has once again proven himself to be a great fit in our heifer pen. When we bought Driller and brought him home we were very pleasantly surprised by his quiet and gentle disposition. This disposition seems to be very genetic as all the Driller females we have are a treat to work with. EGC Jeddah 147J very much has his sire’s quiet, gentle and friendly disposition. Kicking it old school here! Dad remembered the old Leachman 600U bull favorably and when the opportunity came to buy some he took it. We have had really good luck using some old school Charolais genetics, so thought we would try some old school simi genetics as well. The plan was to make some solid females with a bit more size. We got a couple powerful females but a few more powerful bulls.

When we think about the 600U bulls on offer the first few things we think of are - undeniable length of body and mass, a bit of extra frame, nice square hip and exceptional weaning weights and yearling weights. Bulls that have a nice big square foot under them, are masculine, nice skulled and really look like bulls. These are cattle that have the ability and the size to grow and have great carcass numbers.

As a sire group they are undeniably the heaviest Simmental bulls in the pen.

At last year’s bull sale I had the pleasure of being on the phone and bidding on Drama Queen’s 3/4 sister with a 15 year old from Ontario. Fast forward a couple months and I get frequent updates of how Hadlee is doing, and that their 6 year old has decided that because she is so quiet and lovey that he wants to halter break and show her. Getting pictures of them working on her and showing her and seeing the confidence and love of showing grow in a 6 year old through pictures is pretty fantastic. Fast forward another couple months and the 15 year old that was bidding on the phone with me is helping with our show string at Agribition. Now we have the most wonderful new friends all from selling a heifer. The cattle industry really is the best!

This is our first year's offspring from BLCC Mr 5015C 289G and we’re really liking how they are developing. Jennabel’s dam is a nice looking Driller female with a blaze face. They were a great looking and friendly pair in the pasture. Jennabel’s disposition has been fantastic since day one.

An Authority bull that goes back to the great flush cow KOP MS Bengie 6P. Authority is a deep bodied, heavy muscled beef bull with impressive performance that brings a total outcross pedigree for Canada. We are very happy with Driller as a breeding bull. He is well made, travels exceptionally well and has a super disposition. Driller’s progeny also have great dispositions, are consistent, very eye appealing and structurally sound. Driller has an impressive set of EPD’s. He is in the top 30% for 10/13 EPD’s, 8/13 of those are in the top 10%. He is in the top 4% for weaning and 2% for yearling weight. Homo polled. After 3 years of calving to Epic, he has proven himself to be a great fit in our heifer pen. The calves have consistently been born the right size and make. The Epic calves grow well and push the scales down hard at weaning time, having the offspring off of heifers easily competing with the cow offspring. Our Epic cattle are deep bodied, soft made, hairy, have a dark red coat, and the dispositions on them are really good. Epic has total outcross genetics, impressive phenotype, and a great set of EPD’s. His CE, BW, WT and YT are all in the top 3%.

Mescalito is a bull we found at Cody Cattle Company in Kansas and bought with Harvie Ranching and Kay-R Charolais. Recently we sold the walking rights back to Cody Cattle Company. Mescalito is a bull that we are pretty excited about for his power, presence, style and big time volume and hip.

A bull that has a great big foot and travels well. Mescalito has sired a group of bulls that have a lot of style, presence, muscle shape and mass, natural thickness who push the scales down hard at weaning. They are a consistent, uniform group. Semen available for sale. Homo polled. “Cook” Triumph 50B, not to be confused with Triumph 2135, has turned out to be a great breeding bull for us. When touring Triple C Charolais we fell in love with SCX 128W, when she had a Triumph 2135 bull in the sale we knew he would be a good fit to carry on the Triumph bloodline in our herd. He possesses many traits we look for in cattle: tremendous body depth, easy keeping, a big wide top, sound structure, masculinity, and that great herd bull presence.

It’s hard to find a fault in his or his sire’s structure. The way they move and cover ground is impressive to watch. It is hard to find a bull that breeds as consistently and as uniformly as Triumph 50B. His genetics have been admired and chased by both purebred and commercial breeders alike. Like his sire, he is in the top 1% for weaning weight and yearling weight. Our Cook females are a uniform bunch, shaping up to be good mother cows with nice udders.

Triumph possesses a lot of traits we look for in our cattle: lots of capacity, a big wide top line that carries right down the quarter, sound structure, easy keeping, and a good disposition. Triumph’s sire, Tuffy, was selected as a multi-trait leader in the US spring sire summary.
