HERD HEALTH: A complete herd health program has been developed by Dr. Curt Vogel, Heritage Veterinary Service of Utica, KS. The cowherd is vaccinated each fall at preg checking. The calves all receive two rounds of modified live vaccines while on the ranch, with the first administered in the spring along with Vision 7 and Multimin®. The calves received pre-weaning shots and are boostered at weaning along with injectable Ivomec. All calves have been PI tested negative. All bulls in the sale will have been semen checked and passed a fertility and soundness exam. Health certificates can be issued on any animal in the sale making them all eligible for interstate shipment. Dr. Paul Ritter, Monument Station Ultrasound of Monument, KS performed the collection of ultrasound data. Dr. Darrel DeGrofft and Deb Rest of Colorado Genetics, Inc. work with us on the synchronization of all our donor cows and the collection and placement of all our embryos. They also assist us with the artificial insemination of the main cowherd. The cowherd is on mineral and/or protein supplement tubs year around. GUARANTEE: Each animal becomes the risk of the buyer as soon as sold. LAR will guarantee all bulls selling for $3,500 or more against breeding injury for the first breeding season. Breeding season is defined as the 90-day period following the first turnout of said bull. Breeding injury is defined as injury to penis or preputial tear with inability to extend. This guarantee does NOT cover non breeding injuries resulting from accident or gross negligence. If a replacement bull is available, he will be provided or if the buyer prefers, credit toward one bull will be given in the following year’s sale, less salvage value of the injured bull, less $10 per day the bull has been in use since first turnout. Please notify us as soon as possible should injury occur and prior to the injured bull being sold for salvage. Guarantee ends 8/31/20.

VIEWING OF SALE ANIMALS: All sale animals will be located at the ranch by Wednesday, February 19th for viewing. YEARLING BULL DEVELOPMENT: The yearling bulls were developed by Frank Wedel of Wedel Beef Genetics, Leoti, KS. The bulls are developed on a roughage based ration allowing them to express their growth potential while maintaining long term soundness. The bulls have been handled on foot, on horseback, on 4wheelers and with dogs, so they should be able to adapt to your operation very easily. GENOMICS TESTING: All of the animals in this year’s sale offering have been genomics tested. The results are incorporated into the EPD calculations of each individual, which results in increased accuracies on these young animals with no offspring. SEMEN INTEREST: LAR will be Retaining 1/2 Revenue Sharing Semen Interest in every bull sold in this year’s sale. The buyer will receive the remaining interest in the bull, full possession and full salvage value on the bull, unless otherwise referenced. LAR is reserving the right to collect semen on these bulls at the buyers convenience and the sellers expense for the purpose of in herd use or potential semen

sales, which the buyer could also benefit from. COOP HERD - Solomon River Cattle (SRC) The Greg Beougher family continues to be a cooperator herd of the LAR program. Greg has built a nice set of cows through purchases made from some of the top Kansas Angus breeders. Greg has purchased a number of females and herd bulls from LAR, resulting in the genetics of SRC being very similar to the LAR herd. The SRC cattle are run in Gove county under similar management and the bulls have been developed together since weaning. How $Profit

Works:

The $Profit™ financial index takes into account the effects of both income and expenses to help determine the ultimate value contribution an individual animal can make to an operation. The model assumes the following: ▪ Average commercial bull will sire 100 progeny in his lifetime ▪ 30% of the heifers will be kept as replacements ▪ Producer retains ownership on balance of the calf crop and markets on a value based grid. Even though many producer sell calves at weaning, cattle with predictable post-weaning performance and carcass quality can see increased value even when being sold as calves. $Profit™ allows you to compare the profit potential different bulls can have on your operation. For example, if Bull A has a $10,000 $Profit™ figure and Bull B has a $6,000 $Profit™ figure, then Bull A should contribute an additional $4,000 (or $40 per head on 100 progeny) worth of profit to your bottom line. Because this is a multi-breed analysis, it allows for any two bulls to be made comparable to one another. In order to get a full picture of this profit potential, all traits that have an impact are identified as either being a revenue or cost trait. The model categories the traits in the model as listed below (some traits are less easily characterized - Milk for example, is a good thing until you get too much and then see more negative effects on fertility than positive effects on weaning weight):
