Dear Friends, We welcome you to be part of our second annual bull sale. For those of you just getting to know us now a little background, we have been selling registered angus bulls for 14 years formerly with Freeburg Ridge Angus, Joe Hammel. We have purchased foundation females from Marda Angus, Peterson Angus, Johnson Family Cattle and purchased a large number of embryos from Mohnen Angus that were just born in 2020. We are extremely proud of the bulls being showcased in this year offering. It is our goal to raise bulls that will produce progeny with calving ease and tremendous growth potential. The development of these bulls is done very carefully, we raise the bulls to be athletic and muscular so they can get out and cover some ground on those hot summer days. We are growing the bulls so that they will last for years in your operation. The maternal side of our operation has a been the focus since we began. We have focused on retaining females that calve in the first 42 days of the calving season through this practice we have found a direct correlation between granddam, dam and daughter calving intervals. We see it year after year when the dam calves at a 365-day interval the daughter will as well, often times we have granddams, dams and daughters all calving within days of each other. This is exceptionally important to our customers who want uniform calf crops and great fertility in the dams. We also focus on udder quality and feet and legs because along with fertility they become some of the most important factors in longevity of our females. Also, with having 4 young children that are often along for calving checks and pasture walks docility is of utmost importance. Our goal is for our customers new and old to find this offering to meet the needs of their program and buy with the confidence of knowing that we will be there to stand behind the cattle and we are always just a phone call away if any questions arise. Exciting news for 2020, we have acquired donors for our ET program from Mohnen Angus to push our operation to the next level in producing seedstock and we have also expanded to working with a third cooperator herd. Please take a look at this offering and call Ryan with any questions (507) 429-3755 Join us at the Open House to view the cattle on Saturday, March 7th, 2020 at the Dakota Farm near Lanesboro, MN. Thank you, The Oians Ryan and Kristin, Amelia, Johannna, Lincoln, Eleanor

SO GOD MADE A
Farmer
And on the eighth day, God looked down on his planned paradise and said, “I need a caretaker.” So God made a farmer. God said, “I need somebody willing to get up before dawn, milk cows, work all day in the fields, milk cows again, eat supper, then go to town and stay past midnight at a meeting of the school board.” So God made a farmer. God said, “I need somebody willing to sit up all night with a newborn colt and watch it die, and dry his eyes and say, ‘Maybe next year.’ I need somebody who can shape an ax handle from a persimmon sprout, shoe a horse with a hunk of car tire, who can make harness out of haywire, feed sacks, and shoe scraps. Who planting time and harvest season will finish his 40-hour week by Tuesday noon and then, painin’ from tractor back, put in another 72 hours.” So God made a farmer. God said, “I need somebody strong enough to clear trees and heave bales, yet gentle enough to yean lambs and wean pigs and tend the pink-combed pullets, who will stop his mower for an hour to splint the broken leg of a meadow lark.” So God made a farmer. It had to be somebody who’d plow deep and straight and not cut corners. Somebody to seed, weed, feed, breed, and rake, and disk, and plow, and plant, and tie the fleece and strain the milk. Somebody who’d bale a family together with the soft, strong bonds of sharing. Who would laugh, and then sigh, and then reply with smiling eyes, when his son says that he wants to spend his life doing what Dad does.
