Burwell Livestock Market | Burwell, NE
SELLING: 50 Yearlings & 20 Fall Bulls/Coming Two’s
2020 Dethlefs/Treffer Production Sale Once again I’ve been asked to write a welcome letter to our production sale. It’s hard to believe that this is our 52nd annual event! My how things have changed in that time. Some of the things that haven’t changed though is the pleasure of seeing our old customers and visiting with new ones. Without you, we could not have continued for over 50 years! This last year has put us all to the test with the flood and late winter weather. One has to be truly dedicated to their lifestyle. The one thing we all do is look to a better future and that is how we look at raising our registered Angus cattle. We are always trying to improve. This year’s selection of bulls have some old blood lines and several new ones. There will be some to fit most any need for herd improvement. We look forward to seeing you on March 26th at the Burwell Livestock Market! Dethlefs Angus Ranch I don’t know about you but so far I’m likng 2020 a whole lot better than 2019. Most of the creek fences are still there, the extra 50 degrees of average temperature is appreciated and none of the calves so far are nicknamed “Bob” or “Bobette”. The highs and lows in the cattle business are somewhat like the difference in the last 2 years. This year is a great reminder that things can get better. We’re excited to be offering our genetics on a new sale date and at a new location. The thing that didn’t change is the long-time commitment our families have made to raising quality Angus cattle. The breed, and some of the bulls you’ll see here, offer growth and carcass. Others take most of the worry out of calving heifers. There are the bulls that will sire calves that come light, grow fast, fit premium carcass programs, are low input, and check many of the other profit boxes. Hopefully you’ll find what you need to move your herd forward. The bulls in the catalog are grouped by sires. Mom reminded me the other day that while we focus on the sire lines we are offering, their dams have a huge influence. Cow families matter and are woven through decades of our pedigrees. I think Mom may have also been reminding me that our family didn’t get all of our good looks from just Dad. Thanks for your interest and let us know if we can assist you in any way! Dutch and Marian donated a heifer for the 2019 Aspiring Young Cattlemen Program at the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic. Megan Amos of Stapleton, Nebraska was the recipient. Over the last year, she raised the heifer, attended our bull sale, bred the heifer and exhibited her at multiple shows. Megan brought her to the 2020 NCC as a bred heifer and was the Champion AYC Heifer. She sold to Dennis Heim and had twin bull calves the week of March 1. Dutch, Marian and Megan really enjoyed the experience!
