President Letter
Well…what a way to bring in the new year! I hope as you're reading this that things have relaxed and come back to a near normal way of life. For those of you that don’t know me, we farm in Hartland. My wife, Kari, and I have three children: Brittany, Jordan and Joe. Together with Kari's dad, we have 50 cow/calf pairs consisting of registered Herefords and commercial cows, as well as a few dairy heifers. We cash crop corn, soybeans, wheat and hay.

It was nice to see some of you at the annual meeting in February. Just a reminder to make sure you have your dues paid for this year to continue receiving the Review as well as other information regarding Wisconsin Hereford Association.
Our State Sale was well attended with our consignors and buyers happy with the sale results. Make sure you're thinking about being a consignor for next year. A big thank you to Mellissa Berggren for doing another great job as sale manager. Our tour this year is planned for the southeast part of the state. Dates and visits have not been finalized yet. If you would like to be a part of this year's tour, be sure to get in touch with Nathan Reinke at ndreinke@gmail.com.
The Wisconsin Junior Hereford Association is getting ready for the 2021 Junior National from July 2-9 in Madison. They have a number of fundraisers in the works to make this a success. Be sure to help as you are able for this great event for the youth in our home state. I'm sure BJ Jones and Sondra Brancel will need many hands to make all this happen! All the additional time we have been able to spend with family in the same household has been great. It's really nice to have the extra help on the farm and their show prospects have gotten an early start. Let's all hope and pray we will be able see each other in person to showcase everyone’s hard work at the upcoming shows that have not been canceled. All is not lost if there is not a show. The valuable life lessons in agriculture are forever. Remember to be kind to each other. Reach out to a friend you haven't heard from in a while.

In the past 75 days our world has certainly changed. The coronavirus (COVID-19) has made our lives more uncertain, changed the markets, and even halted some primary elections and many church services. The press has put fear and panic in some people of America.
I am here to share some GOOD NEWS! The sun is still coming up every morning and going down every night. Your cattle do not care about COVID-19, thus you need to get out to the barn, feed, water, and care for them. The seeds you are going to plant this spring are going to grow and produce a crop. People around the world want to buy and eat the products that you are producing. American farmers are resilient, dedicated and trustworthy. Hereford breeders are intelligent, progressive, and leaders in the cattle industry. You as breeders of Hereford cattle are raising the very best cattle that the industry has ever witnessed. The demand for Hereford genetics has been extremely strong this spring. Why? Herefords provide, growth, efficiency, fertility, and docility to the commercial sector better than any other. In addition, consumers love this high-quality beef that you are providing them. The coronavirus will pass, and the markets will recover. We live in the greatest country in the world – AMERICA. Keep up the GREAT WORK!
