The entire McCabe family would like to invite you to our first ever fall bull and commercial female sale. You will notice several changes from our usual spring sale setting. One of the most notable starts with the catalog as there are no individual bull pictures and no footnotes. We spend a lot of time and effort to get videos that represent each bull and we have comments to go along with the video. So, turn on the volume and listen as we give an honest appraisal of the bulls. These videos will start going up on our website early in October and we add them as we get them videoed and the voice over added. These have proven to be very popular with the potential buyers in the past. We have a really good selection of Angus, Hereford and a few select Red Angus bulls that have enough age to go right to work. Several bulls we have used here in our own operation, so they are among the best we have available throughout the year. We will notate which bulls have seen service here in the videos. While these bulls might not have as much flesh because of serving cows over the summer, they are Trich tested, ready to go to work and among the best we have to offer. Besides the older bulls we have a really nice set of 18 mo old bulls that have not had any bulls picked out of their age group. They have been on crab grass and silage with some distillers all summer with no added grain and I don’t know when we have had a set of bulls do better than these bulls have performed. They have grown out well, are slick haired in moderate flesh ready to go to work. We will also sell some select commercial females as we do in the spring sale although we will offer fewer in this first fall sale. They will be either from ourselves or our bull customers and they will be the foundation kind. The sale will be broadcast on Liveauctions TV so internet bidding will be available. Also, we or any of the sale staff will be glad to assist you in handling your bids should you not be able to attend the sale. Herd Health: The cow herd is annually vaccinated against, IBR, BVD, and P13. The females were vaccinated for Blackleg, IBR, BVD, P13 and Lepto. Cattle will be accompanied by proper health certificates as needed. Cattle sold into other states will begin any additional required health tests the week following the sale. All bulls selling are tested negative for BVD-PI, AM/NH/CA free. All 2 yr. old bulls have been Trich tested and the rest of the bulls sell under the Kansas Herd Management Plan. McCabe Genetics Breeding Guarantee The bulls that sell are fertile to the best of our knowledge and are backed by a first breeding season guarantee. If, while breeding cows, they sustain injury to their reproductive system, making them unable to service females we will provide you with a satisfactory replacement if available, or issue you credit equal to your purchase minus salvage value that may be used toward the purchase of any animal for sale at McCabe Genetics through our annual sale or private treaty. We request that you notify us before you cull the injured or infertile bull. This is not a life insurance policy against death or disasters and does not cover health problems or injury due to mismanagement, negligence, or risks you choose to take (running bulls together can cause bull fights and injury). All bulls have passed a semen examination performed by the Shnurman Sire Service located at Martensdale, Iowa.

Interest Retained in Bulls
We are retaining 1/3 semen revenue sharing interest in all of the bulls. The buyer will be purchasing two-thirds interest and full possession of the bull. This means we are reserving the right to one-third of the semen sales revenue from the bull if at sometime in the future semen sales become a reality. We also reserve the right to collect semen on the bull for our own inherd use if we choose to at some time in the future. If you sell the bull to some other party we still retain one-third interest. You will have control of the bull and receive 100% of the salvage value whenever that occurs.

Calving Ease Direct (CED), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which an sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers. Birth EPD - expressed in pounds, is the difference between average progeny birth weights for sires. Birth weight cannot be used to predict actual birth weights due to maternal differences and differences in environment. Experience has taught us that the use of sires with lower birth weight EPD’s can reduce the risk of calving difficulty. Weaning Wt. Direct EPD - expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sires ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny. Milk EPD - is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters. Yearling Wt.
