Greetings from the crew at Bar CK... Welcome to our 9th annual “Profit Sharing Bull & Female Sale” which will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2020. This has been an interesting year at Bar CK; we've asked our cattle do more with less - and their response has been impressive. The cow herd and first-calf heifers calved out on the desert, kept their calves safe, picked them up and traveled miles each day to water and feed, and came back with healthy calves, cycling and ready to breed back for another year. For years we've selected for fertility and longevity traits as we turned generations in our cow herd, and this year - more than ever before - we made those females function in an environment that reflects some of the tougher country of our customers. We always believed our genetics were well suited for the high desert environments of eastern Oregon, Idaho and Nevada, this year our cows proved that to be true. Likewise, we've put more pressure on our bull development and pulled all the Corn out of our Bull Ration. The result has been a very healthy, good-footed set of bulls that still gained admirably and did so while developing excellent rumen health and good hard feet. More than any of our prior sales, our slogan, “Bred for Profit and Raised to Work”, speaks to our commitment to develop those bulls in a manner that enhances their potential to be a serviceable and dependable vector for superior genetics over years of heavy service. All of this has only strengthened our commitment to provide genetics that achieve profitability through excelling in those traits that have the greatest impact on your bottom line - not just coffee shop bragging rights. Higher CED and MCE result in a higher percentage of live calves. Higher Stayability (STAY) results in cows getting pregnant, calving on time, and staying productive in the herd – all of which requires lower replacement rates and allows a higher percentage of heifer calves to be sold. Together these traits deliver more pounds of calf per acre and when coupled with elite marbling EPDs – those extra pounds of calves sell for higher prices since they are capable of earning higher carcass premiums. All bulls are greater than 13 months of age and have passed a breeding soundness exam. Bulls have received BoviSheild Gold, Ultrabac 8, Long Range injectable wormer, Saber pour on, Vibrin, and Endovac-Beef. If bulls are going out of state, they may need additional tests. This process may take a few days. Bar CK Ranch will feed and house animals during this process.

For more than a decade Bar CK has focused on developing elite marbling genetics, equal to the top Angus sires, but without sacrificing the longevity, fertility and overall reproductive efficiency that comes through maternal heterosis which is captured in crossbred females. This strategy has required us to continually sample the Angus Breed's Top Marbling Genetics, and identify those that fit our demands of "heifer bull" caliber calving ease, moderate mature size and problem free disposition and phenotype. The result is a 2 & 3 generation deep hybrid SimAngus program (120 of the 126 SimAngus bulls in our sale are between 3/8th Angus and 5/8th Angus - with most being half-bloods) and where more than 100 bulls rank in the top 1% for Marbling EPD. Over 40 of these bulls exceed 1.0 for Marbling EPD which compares to popular proven Angus bulls that rank in the best 5% of the Angus breed for Marbling. In addition to greater access to Prime and Upper Choice premiums, our elite Marbling SimAngus genetics deliver significantly greater heterosis than Angus bulls when used on the average commercial cow in the western United States. Heterosis (Hybrid Vigor) contributes to both improved animal health during the stocker- feeder phase and to improved fertility and longevity seen in the retained females. If you run in big country and/or in the high desert you’ll appreciate the mothering ability, reproductive efficiency and foraging inherent in SimAngus females. And, your cattle feeder will appreciate the lower treatment and mortality rates that come from feeding elite Marbling SimAngus.

How the Auction Works
EPD Terminology & DV Auction's Internet Bidding Instructions EPD (Expected Progeny Difference): EPDs predict differences in progeny performance and are the most meaningful predictor of animals’ genetic merit. API (All-Purpose Index): Predicts differences in sires’ contribution to profitabiity when mated to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold on a grade & yield basis.
MILK (Milk): Predicts differences in weaning weight due to milk. MCE (Maternal Calving Ease): Predicts the probability of 2-yr-old daughters calving unassisted. DOC (Docility): Predicts differences in docility of progeny. Higher DOC EPD is more desirable.
TI (Terminal Index): Predicts differences in sires’ contribution to profitabiity when mated to Angus mature cows and all offspring are put on feed and sold on a grade & yield basis.
STAY (Stayability): Predicts probability of daughters staying productive past 6 yrs of age.
CED (Calving Ease): Predicts the probability of calves being born unassisted out of 2-yr-old heifers.
MARB (Marbling Score): Predicts differences in marbling score.
BW (Birth Weight): Predicts differences in pounds of birth weight. WW (Weaning Weight): Predicts differences in pounds of weaning weight. ADG (Average Daily Gain):Predicts differences in post-weaning gain, expressed in lbs/day.

Volume Discounts: $50.00/bull discounts if 5 or more are purchased and $100/bull if 10 or more are purchased.
Guarantee:
All cattle sell under the suggested terms and conditions of the American Simmental Association (ASA). All efforts will be made to disclose any known defects. No bulls were DD tested. In addition all bulls are guaranteed to be fertile and come with a 90 day first breeding season warranty by Bar CK. Should one of these bulls become incapable of breeding cows, Bar CK will exchange the bull with a suitable replacement or provide you with a credit equal to the bull’s purchase price less his salvage value. This guarantee does not apply bulls that die or are killed and is not transferable to another buyer.
Livestock Mortality insurance - can be obtained at settlement. Sale Females - Breeding/Calving Information:
With the exception of the open heifers, all females will have either calved and/or been bred (AI an/or pasture service) prior to the sale. Status updates for the female offering will be made available through the Bar CK website www.barckcattle.com and DV Auction dvauction.com.
Announcements from the auction block shall take precedence over this catalog and all other printed material.
Retained Semen Interest: We are selling full possession, full salvage
value and 50% revenue sharing semen interest in every bull. The buyer has total control of how bull is handled plus gets 100% of the salvage value. This simply gives Bar CK the right to half of the semen sales revenue if at sometime in the future semen sales becomes a possibility. If a buyer is not interested in marketing the semen from a bull then Bar CK has the right to collect a semen bank on the bull at our cost and the buyer’s convenience. This semen bank would be 100% owned by Bar CK for our use or marketing. Realistically speaking it is unlikely that large amounts of semen will be sold from very many bulls. However, we have several top end bulls whose true breeding value will only be known after progeny data has been recorded and evaluated. Even bulls sold to commercial herds may become popular at a later time, especially if carcass data is collected on their calves. Contact us for different options on how data can be collected on sires relatively inexpensively. If you choose to collect semen from one of these bulls as an “insurance policy” for your own use that semen is 100% yours. We want to have a great partnership with you.
Feeding and Possession Options:
Bar CK Ranch will offer a $100 discount per lot for buyers picking up their purchases on sale day. Any bulls left after the sale will be kept free of charge until March 1, 2020, after which Bar CK will charge feed cost of $4.00/day. All bulls must be removed from Bar CK by May 1, 2020. We will take care of the bulls to the best of our ability, but we recommend that you protect your investment with insurance.
