Terms & Conditions:
The cattle sell under the suggested terms and conditions of the American Angus Association (02/18/2009). Terms of the sale are cash unless prior arrangements have been made. All supplements to this catalog or announcements made from the block take precedence over what is written in this sale book.
Liability:
All persons attending the sale and related functions do so at their own risk. JR Ranch, its staff and representatives assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents or injuries that may occur.
Inspection of Cattle:
Cattle are available for inspection at their respective ranches any time prior to the sale and at the sale barn on November 20th. Buyers are invited to come early, view the cattle and enjoy refreshments on sale day.
Health and Fertility:
All bulls have passed a complete semen evaluation. OUT OF STATE BUYERS: bulls will not be TRICH tested prior to the sale. Bulls selling to out of state buyers will be TRICH tested after the sale and delivered. Call Jeff with any questions. Bulls are guaranteed to be fertile.
Delivery:
Bulls: Pick up your BULLS within 5 days and receive a $50/hd credit. Bulls will be delivered as soon as possible (weather permitting). Females: We will not be providing delivery. We would like to have all females to their new homes within five days of the sale. We will assist with trucking arrangements if needed.
Satisfaction Guarantee:
Bull Wintering: We will keep bulls and deliver them in the spring for $300/hd. Wintering fee is due sale day.
All bulls are guaranteed against injury or death for the first breeding season. If for any reason, you are not satisfied with a bull, we will bring you another one, or refund your money (minus salvage value). Cows sold as bred are guaranteed to calve by May 25th. If a bred female fails to calve we will refund your purchase price (minus salvage value). We intend for our cattle to be profitable for you to own.

I hope this annual letter for our Fall Sale finds everyone doing well as we progress into fall. I hear it’s been raining a bit which is almost always welcome. Our fall season tends to be pretty hectic at times with our farming operation (pumpkins!) running head on into the cattle work in October. But I am blessed with capable, energetic young men that help us out with the cattle. A huge tip of my hat to Ruben and Richard, they are hands on every day and talented and love the cowboy life. Thanks guys. I struggled to find the motivation to get this process in gear this fall. As you are aware, we had a BIG sale in June that was an arduous task. It felt like we had all done just about enough cow paperwork to last until 2020. Not quite. So here I am trying to fill this page with witty, informative words that keep it interesting. Jeff and Jaime Sackmann graciously offered to make this sale catalog. Thanks! As we all remember, last February and March were long, bitter and unforgiving. We certainly had a different set of challenges than most, being that we calve in April and May. But we had some struggles. This set of bulls was the group that wintered the hardest. They were on some wheat pasture in some pretty open country that blew hard and long. They ended up without any hay or water for the better part of February. They all survived but a couple. It was a pretty sober day when we finally got to them and were able to move them home to better feed. They were hungry and most had lost any extra condition they had when winter hit. I guess I think this is important info for two reasons. First, these bulls are probably 150-200 lbs. lighter than most years and a little smaller. Second, these bulls have been put to the test. They did winter out. They did survive with no supplement beyond mineral last winter. They remained on grass until Sept. 10th of this fall, never having seen a feedlot or a hay feeder. At some point I think this will lead to a bull that is better suited to work for more years than a “typical” feedlot developed bull. Only time will tell I guess. We have shortened up the female offering significantly this fall. With the June sale of all the older cows, I guess I felt it was a good spot to calve a bunch of these heifers again. We do have a nice set of commercial heifers and a pen of really nice commercial cows that are bred to calve Feb/Mar. The handful of registered heifers offers some of our better genetics. Cattle like this have consistently moved us forward here. We even have a few bred to JR Borghi 532E, our new bull that I am really liking a bunch. Plans are to use him everywhere here this coming season. I feel compelled to acknowledge the loss of our good friend Josh Dykes. Most people in the cow business had met Josh or knew who he was. I still haven’t really wrapped my mind around it all but I guess it’s easy to tell you that our family was blessed to have gotten to know Josh and Kristin and the kids. We rejoice with Josh knowing he is in the presence of his Savior, and share the broken hearts of so many at our earthly loss of him and the big void of not having him with us here. I ask that we all keep his family and crew in our thoughts and prayers as they go forward. Josh Dykes rode a fast horse and swung a big loop. This calf has really stood out in his contemporary group this summer and fall. He has got a double shot of Unmistakable, which to me simply takes most of the guesswork out of him. His maternal granddam (139) raised an Emblazon son that we liked enough to use on the cover of our 2010 catalog, and was the second high selling bull for us that year. She has been raising good calves for a lot of years. He isn’t anything but solid from top to bottom and end to end. In this era of poor feet and big, flat carcass type cattle, a calf like this backed by consistent genetics really fits this lot 1 slot. He has proven to be very quiet to this point as well.
