Hello friends! We hope you’re all doing well, keeping healthy and safe, too. We’re sorry it’s taken us a bit this year to get these out. Thank you for your patience. We’re sure you’re probably wondering if we’ve forgotten about you. I think we’ve been running behind (well, since forever), but definitely since this spring. Along with several other adjoining landowners, we’ve been preparing for a prescribed burn for about five years now and on a quiet, beautiful April morning, we lit it up. We were supposed to have three more weeks to finish stuffing trees into ravines and cutting ones out of the fence lines, but everyone was worried if we’d be shut down due to regulations, (because it definitely takes more than ten people to pull it off). So, with about a 36 hour notice to tie up the boundary lines, the match was struck. I’m sure we could’ve tinkered another year and still would’ve found more to do.

Thanks to a good bunch of friends & neighbors, it went off without a hitch. A little scary as it was right up to the perimeter of our yard. The old mares & studs stayed by the farmstead, the rest of the herd was a mile away.

We’re still rebuilding fence lines. And while normally we’d be able to turn back out to grass, there hasn’t been enough rain for good regrowth, so most of the horses have been getting supplemented with hay and grain this year. So, you might say, the foals were all eating good before we weaned them. The bad part? No rain has meant hauling water at a pretty steady pace the past couple months.

If anything, the hard work is a welcome distraction to hearing about all the unrest, evil and destruction in our country and in the hearts of so many people. We are thankful for our quiet, little corner of the world where most folks still have some common sense, morals & values, but our thoughts and prayers are with all of our fellow Americans who aren’t as fortunate. With the election fast approaching, we, like everyone else, wonder if things will get better or worse. Harris hopes to make most of the deliveries before the election if possible, so if you’re interested in a horse, please get in touch as soon as possible so we can get it tucked in on a trip. Currently, we have horses bound for Montana, Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

We’ve took the majority of these pictures middle of August. My goodness, they’ve grown since then! We’ve got a few additions in our stallion line up that we’re pretty excited about and we think you will be too! They’re some of those solid, foundation lines that our program was built on, just coming from a bit of a different direction.

We also have some changes coming in the form of “taking deposits.”

After several years of doing this at customers’ requests, we will honor the ones we currently have on hand but we will not be taking any new ones. The deposits consist of a handful of planned crosses as well as a couple carryovers and affect about a third of our 2021 crop. We’re sorry if that’s letting some of you down, we just know we need do something different and we hope you understand. We think we’ll be able to be more efficient, get the catalogs out sooner and be a lot less confusing for everyone and a lot less stressful for us!

To have to call someone and let them know, “The mare you chose slipped her foal”, or “didn’t settle” or “We lost the mare”, or “We know you wanted a black colt but she had a filly” and they’ve got to either choose another foal of similar bloodlines or wait another year? It definitely upsets our nerves and the applecart. So, when we build our catalog next year, we’ll be looking ahead to make sure to allow a sufficient amount of time for the catalogs to reach everyone and as well as some time for you to read through it and call with questions or requests for more info. There will be specific date will be listed, that we’ll start taking “sale” calls. We hope you understand. Please call if you have any questions.

We are also going with a different print company this year! We heard about a place in Kansas called Livestock Direct. Seen some examples of their work and it looks pretty nice! Please know, that if you see any errors, it’s due to us, not them! Not only do they print the catalogs, but they will also be mailing them out directly to you! I’m sure this will sound silly, but I’ll miss the opportunity to include a hand written scribble when time allowed, but as Harris said, you all are reading plenty of my scribbles throughout this catalog and most people would rather get the catalog! We’re pretty sure these folks will get this out to you quicker than we do around our kitchen table.

Therefore, in the future, if you have any changes to your contact information, please let us know so we can make sure we “find you”. And by chance, if you hear someone say that they’d called for a catalog but never received one? Please tell them to call again!! Trying to simplify life, I made an address book on the computer so I could more easily add names in alphabetical order. Apparently I hadn’t “saved my changes” and one day, the computer automatically restarted. The new names I added didn’t save to the list and by then, I’d thrown out our handwritten notes from some new callers.

Unfortunately, there are about fifteen people whose names we’re missing. We even dug through the burn barrel that hadn’t yet been lit, but only recovered a couple. All I know, is for all the digging through rubbish, notebooks, etc., we did? And knowing there’s a few people out there who think we don’t care?

Ugh. Life definitely did NOT get any “more simple.” We now keep a hand written notebook and one on the computer.

These last two paragraphs haven’t changed much in a few years. It’s just impossible to word this any differently. But please know, it’s meant as sincerely, as ever.

We thank you all for your calls, letters and visits! We appreciate them all. And we hope we can continue to do this for many more. We enjoy everything about raising Morgans and helping people find what they’re looking for. But most especially, it’s the people…the friendships that are most rewarding. We are so grateful for all the wonderful folks we’ve met over the years!

A Bit of History Harris’ family has been raising registered Morgans since 1969. His parents, Harvey & Myrna, were looking a smoother riding horse for ranch work to help Harvey’s ailing back as well as a kind hearted, dependable horse for their young family, too. They soon fell in love with the beauty, work ethic and kind disposition of the Morgan horse. The common sense, stamina and heart of the Morgan, were exactly what they were looking for. They built their herd with Flyhawk and those wonderful western working lines. We aren’t trying to change what they built, just enhance it as best we can. We’ll always be grateful for the trust & knowledge they shared with us.

In 2002, with a handful of mares we leased from Harris’ folks and three of our own, we built our home just a few miles down the road. A little town called Denmark once existed in the hills behind our place, so we thought it only fitting to call our new homestead RG Morgans/Denmark Ranch. We make our living raising kids, cattle and Morgan horses. To support that hobby, we also drive a school bus; do a bit of catering and clear cedar trees from pastures.

As for our horses…we put just as much stock in our broodmares as we do the stallions. There isn’t one on the place that doesn’t have a job. They earn their keep by raising the foals out in the pastures and by being good mamas. With the exception of three, all of the mature mares in our band have had at least 30 days of saddle work before joining our program. Some are also trained to drive and we still call upon a few of them for ranch work. This enables us to have a better idea of how their work ethic, capabilities & personalities. It also gives us more insight on what they may pass on to their foals. They also handle easier at breeding and foaling time, are friendlier and of course all that makes for a more calm, quiet, friendly herd. They will literally, peacefully surround you in the pasture, waiting for your attention.

Unless otherwise stated, every horse for sale in this catalog has been imprinted, halter and lead broke. They are all current on vaccinations, worming and trimming. They stand well for the farrier. If the proper age, they have had dental work, wolf teeth pulled, etc. Our foals are handled often, and even after they are weaned, we continue with the attention we give them. We keep the weanlings in a large corral or small pasture to grain and hay separately from the herd until they are at least a year and a half old. As yearlings and two year olds, they are often haltered, lead, have their feet picked up, etc. Saddle work begins around two and a half years of age.

All our stallions are trained to ride and drive at the appropriate age.

They are occasionally taken to town for a show or presentation but are mainly used for ranch work. They have an excellent work ethic, manners and disposition.

Zeus desperately needed to be in a home where he could not only be with mares over the winter, but pasture breed as well. We are just not set up to safely do that, here. Nor could we be, very easily. Zeus now happily makes his home in Indiana. He had such a high percentage of fillies vs. colt ratio. But we helped the colt average considerably. We had several folks ask to keep us in mind for his fillies, but only had two. We retained them and one of his colts for our future. We hope you enjoy the catalog! If you see something you’re interested in and would like to visit, the best time to reach us is early mornings or late evenings. We are always up until at least midnight so don’t think it’s ever “too late to call.” It’s not!! And if it’s during calving season, you might be doing us a favor by waking us up for a night check!

Mom & Dad had a tradition of delivering for actual cost of fuel & lodging. We continued to honor that tradition for 17 years, but we’re sorry to say, we’ve got to add $100/horse now, to help breakeven on the wear & tear on pickup/trailer and lost wages of being gone, etc., that are just adding up to be too much…We hope you understand. (But don’t fret…we’re still several hundred dollars cheaper than professional haulers). Before we make a “run”, we figure the closest and quickest path of travel to the different location. Then, the cost is divided amongst the number of horses on the trailer, up to each drop off point.

Anyone “off the beaten path” of that main route, is responsible for their share of the fuel/extra lodging that it took to reach their point and back to the main trail.

We try to make it as fair & reasonable as possible for everyone.

We do not charge board for foals when purchased as weanlings for fall delivery. As for older stock, charging for board depends on when they’re spoken for and when the time of delivery or pick up is scheduled. We do not profit on board, we just charge our cost of feed. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please give us a call.

Coggins and health papers are required for delivery and are at the expense of the buyer. Registration papers provided upon complete payment.

The foals were weaned near the end of September. They’ve all been vaccinated and wormed. The farrier will be out before delivery. If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to ask.

For those of you folks that remember our long-time producing mare, Bessia’s Abishag, Carmela is a full sister. And like Abishag, she’s also 15.3-16.0 hands and built like a brick. He’s got a lovely arch to his neck and stands proud. He’s broad chested, big boned with strong legs and feet. He’s not homozygous black but has dark undertones, just like his dam. We just can’t say enough about his sire. We think Eagle would make an excellent stallion prospect or excel in any discipline you choose. Unfortunately, his dam is open for 2021. Honor’s dam is a ¾ sib to Eagle and she also falls in that 15.3-16.0 hand range.

Main difference between the two, besides Honor being homozygous black, is Honor’s neck is just a little thicker and shorter and he himself is a little more compact. RG Denmark’s Leo (RG Denmark’s Justa Farmer x RG Denmark’s Kiss Me Kate) Black Colt, H. Black, 99.75% June 11, 2020 Although we ultrasound every mare to confirm pregnancy and to check for twins, Kate was hiding one. This first time mama not only carried them full term but almost two weeks past her due date. This colt was born first, followed only minutes later by a smaller colt. Kate wanted them both and we tried hard but lost the second colt 36 hours later. Leo is as proud & typy as they come. The only thing we’d fault him for would be he’s a little pinched in his hocks. At first, we figured it might be due to being out of room as they were a little scrunched up! We’ve not had him trimmed yet so that might make a difference but we just wanted to point it out to you and let you decide from there if you would like him as a stallion prospect. If not, he’d make a wonderful family horse for your littles to grow up with.

RG Love’s Enduring Promise. We lost Coal Creek Taylor Jo to colic, her foal just a few weeks old. Refusing the bottle, bucket, etc., when separated, she would nurse any broodmare that would allow it.

Decided she was doing better that way, so we left her with the band.

Of all the mares, Apache took her completely in, raising her own colt and the orphan filly without skipping a beat. Love this kind, beautiful mare!

RG Guardian of the Night (MUR Royal’s Joyride x Ragtime Tiz A Dun) Bay Colt, H. Black, H. Bay*98.4% May 21, 2020 We’ve crossed Tizzie with Dandy and Farmer (several times now) and the results have always been outstanding.

Her colts have sold as stud prospects and fillies are the “keeping kind”. Last year, we decided to go a different route and matched her and her daughter Caroline, (you’ll see on the following page) with Royal. We consider both of them stallion prospects! He’s correct, head carriage. If you don’t need a stallion, he’d be a very fancy mover under saddle, in harness or the show ring. One of the friendliest foals of the crop, he’d make a great family horse, too. He should finish out 15.2+ easily.

Victoria’s dam, “Dolly”, is a 23 year old mare we retired from breeding a few years ago after she suffered a stroke. She was a steadfast ranch working horse Jo used for close to 15 years.

Dolly is a daughter of Cattle Kate who was a constant producer of reliable, hardworking yet loving, versatile partners in several disciplines. You can also find her lines in the sweet, black colt by Farmer x Kiss Me Kate). Our extended families have all retained stock by Cattle Kate, too. Her lines have served us and our customers for over 40 years.

Liberty is the only filly we have available this year but don’t think it’s for lack of quality. We honestly feel she’s one of the best. We retained a 2018 full sib and think this one is actually put together a little nicer. And, no, we aren’t just saying that. Liberty is a good one. We’ve lost 2 of the 3 Déjà vu fillies/mares we’d retained over the years, (one to predator, the other to colic). Déjà vu has a foundation outcross we really like and could use in our herd.

We’d be holding onto this one for ourselves but with our hopes high on his half-brother, Denver’s Sensation in our lineup, we’re letting him go. Banner was the last foal born this year. Hard to believe it’s been almost 20 years since we let Lark go, but we finally have a daughter of his on the place. Her dam goes back to some good old Caduceus blood that we’ll gladly add, too.

Glacier is a classic style mare and we sure like how she’s maturing. How we were hoping for a filly from this cross! But as we were trying to figure out what Zeus colt to retain, it took us until Sept. to decide if we were keeping this colt. We like him, his lines and his style that much. He’s a sweet, sharp, friendly, up-headed fellow! Stud quality at birth, he’s a couple months younger than some of the others, so a little smaller right now. But don’t overlook him because of that. Sometime during the winter of 2018/2019, Gypsy had unknowingly slipped or absorbed her foal. Needing to winter Zeus with some bred mares, we’d put him in a small pasture with her and a handful of others. That spring, without the arrival of a foal but no sign of coming into heat, we took her in for an ultrasound and discovered she was already bred back for a very early 2020 foal. This colt has been weaned for a few months. He’s got a bit of a hay belly on him right now but he’s got a better chance of getting rid of that, than I do mine. We’ve had some inquiries on if we think he’s stud material. Everyone has their own thoughts on what they feel or consider. We think there are stronger prospects in the group but feel he could grow into a decent one. He has the face of his sire, conformation of his dam. Beautiful trot. Should finish out 15.1½ h. RG Kate’s Cattle Call (RG Black Dandy x RG Cattle Kate) 2005 Bay Mare H. Black, 100% One of the last mares we have by Dandy, Call has done a little bit of everything for us. Started as a 2 ½ year old, ridden steady for a short while before being a broodmare for several years. We gave her a refresher course and put 60 days on her a couple years ago and the kids were starting to use her for 4-H practice and to move cows. Then life kicked in…the horses the kids had retained were old enough to start using and Call was left grazing. This spring, we tried to put her back in production. As it’d been a few years since she was bred, we did a culture. She came back clean but after servicing her through 4 or 5 heat cycles, she still didn’t settle. At 15 and trained to ride, we’d still consider her green due to being a broodmare most of her life and our inconsistency at steady riding. Very friendly mare who ALWAYS comes up for attention, even in big pastures, but she can be a boss/dominant of the pen.

We don’t think she’d make a good driving prospect and won’t guarantee her for breeding. We’d like to see her go to a good home for riding or companionship. Priced reasonably to allow for training: $2500

RG Denmark Northern Star (RG Black Dandy x RG Southern Star) 2013 Black Gelding 100% Foundation

This is a tough one to post.

Northern has been Jace’s horse for a few years but as he’s getting older and handling more horses, he’s finding he grabs one of our other geldings more often. It’s been 3 months since Northern’s been ridden and he had a pretty soft winter. Jace said he’d still consider him green. But he has that friendly, loving “Dandy” disposition we love so much.

Same can be said of his dam. Jace can lay his hand on his neck and move him to wherever he wants, when we’re moving horses around. Northern is one of the first to come up and greet us out in the big pasture or the small pen. He gets along great with mares and other geldings. We have never seen him boss or bite another horse. In the past, he’s had a good 30-60 day run, usually in the spring/early summer but then our work shifts and he sits for a while. He’s been quiet to catch and crawl on but doesn’t always care for the gentle nudge of spurs. With some more wet saddle pads, we think he’d finish to be a pretty good ranch hand, western style show or trail horse. He has not been introduced to any type of driving whatsoever. RG Denmark’s Swagger (BAM Jett Prince x RG Skipahawke) 2018 Black, H. Black Stallion 98.38%, if I figured right

Well, I lost out. Harris said it was easier to let Swagger go, than figure out where to keep him. With a couple young guns waiting in the wings, as well as holding back a Zeus colt this year, we are plum out of room and a decision was needing made. Swagger is by a son of Dandy and a sweetheart of a Black Prince daughter, doubling up both sides of his pedigree with that good, old Rimlo blood. Swagger is quiet, gentle, has plenty of Morgan type and a beautiful trot. We only used him on one mare this year. We had three two year olds studs to work with and Swagger was the least mature. If we’d have realized we’d be offering him for sale this fall, we would have settled a couple more. Swagger is actually the first black offspring born to the Skip lines and we’ve been using them since the early 80’s! He’s homozygous black, too! He has not yet been started but is quiet and has been easy to handle, care for. Currently, he’s nose to nose with another young stallion and no bickering at all. Can’t say the same for this household, when I was out voted on posting this horse.

There’s a pretty good chance they’ll be more black foals than what are marked on this list.
