“Another exciting year at Lienetics Ranch. . . .” That is how last year’s welcome letter began. It is difficult to know how to begin this year’s letter. This will be our 10th Annual Lienetics Performance Bull Sale, which is certainly of note, and there were a lot of exciting things that happened on the ranch and with our family this year. . .we got our barn “branded” by Certified Angus Beef, Sydni served her term as the Angus Ambassador, Maci graduated with her Masters in Animal Science (but continues on for a PhD), Skylar graduated from high school and started college at UNL, and Taylon got to “live the dream” as a real cowboy on the R.A. Brown Ranch in TX for 9 months. . .just to name a few. There is no doubt 2018 was filled with excitement and change. Life is about change. Sometimes it’s beautiful. Sometimes it’s painful. But often, it’s both. On November 25th, Trevor was granted eternal life. We can clearly see the beauty in that, but there is no doubt it is painful. We rest in knowing, “God promises to make something good out of the storms that bring devastation to your life.” ~Romans 8:28. We don’t have to look far to see the “good” God promises to make. Last year we entered into a strong, long term partnership with Willer Timber Ridge (“WTR Angus”). That is not just “good;” it has been great. Last year’s inaugural partnership sale was a huge success. Like Lienetics, WTR is a family run operation. Ted and Kathy Willer began the program 24 years ago, and their son, Josh, serves as current herd manager. Ted’s background in business and finance naturally drew him toward the “business breed.” Lienetics & WTR were built by business men with a passion for cattle, Angus genetics, and profitability. Our families look forward to future generations carrying on that legacy and progress. Lienetics and WTR have developed and marketed top quality Angus bulls across the country, and gained national prominence. Our partnership offers a broader selection of proven genetics to advance your herd’s performance, carcass quality, and maternal strength; increasing your overall profitability. We carry the same guarantees backing the bulls you buy. We add to your profitability through our ‘buyback assistance’ program and after sale service. We are Angus breeders with a program based upon the needs of the progressive commercial cattleman. We will continue to prove our “Bull Maker Moms” by testing their progeny for growth and carcass quality at the toughest competitions in the nation! We believe this is the strongest way we can provide you with the real confidence to acquire your herd bulls from our joint program. We’ve taken the guesswork out of your purchase decision by the years and expense developing elite females and by the selection and evaluation of the bulls included in the sale.

These bulls have been “put to the test.” Their performance test results can give you confidence that you know what you’re getting. For added value and assurance we’ve gone to the extra expense of utilizing the unique ‘Angus GS’ DNA test to enhance the accuracy of the EPD’s. Bulls have been ultrasounded, they have been given Breeding Soundness Exams, and we have maintained a premium health program and full set of vaccinations. Look for the “Target the Brand” CAB logo identifying those bulls with greater genetic potential to meet the rigorous standards of the Certified Angus Beef brand and its accompanying premiums at market. Due to unforeseen circumstances, DNA enhanced accuracies were not available on all bulls prior to the sale book being printed; however, they will be available at the sale, on the website, or by special request. We look forward to seeing you on sale day. Be sure and give us a call if you have ANY questions about our offering in the sale. Buy with confidence. We stand ready to assist you with your purchase, before and after the sale.
Sincerely, Torri Lienemann Ted Willer

EPDS EXPLAINED We have the following abbreviations throughout this book with regard to EPDs and actual data. $ Values are expressed in terms of real dollars for a combination of related traits. Expected Progeny Difference (EPD), is the prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the database. EPDs are expressed in units of measure for the trait, plus or minus. Remember, no EPD is an absolute. It simply allows you to compare genetic differences in sires.

PERFORMANCE
FEED EFFICIENCY
Birth Weight (BW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of the animals ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
Dry Matter Intake (DMI), expressed in pounds per day, is a predictor of difference transmitting ability for feed intake during the postweaning phase, compared to that of other sires.
Calving Ease Direct (CED), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers.
Weaning Weight (WW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires. Yearling Weight (YW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to other sires.
M AT E R N A L
Heifer Pregnancy (HP), is a selection tool to increase the probability or chance of a sire’s daughters becoming pregnant as first-calf heifers during a normal breeding season. A higher EPD is the more favorable direction and the EPD is reported in percentage units. Maternal Milk EPD (Milk), is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability.
CARCASS
Marbling EPD (Marb), expressed as a fraction of the difference in USDA marbling score of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. Ribeye Area EPD (RE), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. Fat Thickness EPD (Fat), expressed in inches, is a predictor of the differences in external fat thickness at the 12th rib (as measured between the 12th and 13th ribs) of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. Carcass Weight EPD (CW), expressed in pounds is a predictor of the differences in hot carcass weight of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
Residual Average Daily Gain (RADG), expressed in pounds per day, is a predictor of a sire’s genetic ability for postweaning gain in future progeny compared to that of other sires, given a constant amount of feed consumed.
$VALUE INDEXES
$Value indexes, are multi-trait selection indexes to assist beef producers by adding simplicity to genetic selection decisions. $Values are reported in dollars per head, where a higher value is more favorable. The $Value is an estimate of how future progeny of each sire are expected to perform, on average, compared to progeny of other sires in the database if the sires were randomly mated to cows and if calves were exposed to the same environment. Weaned Calf Value ($W), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for preweaning merit. $W includes both revenue and cost adjustments associated with differences in birth weight, weaning direct growth, maternal milk and mature cow size. Feedlot Value ($F), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for postweaning merit compared to progeny of other sires. Grid Value ($G), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for carcass grid merit compared to progeny of other sires. Beef Value ($B), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for postweaning and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires.

He will leave great females, as his 10 year old Pathfinder dam records 9 calves with a BWR of 100, WWR of 102 and a CI of 365. A wise cattleman once told me the most masculine bulls produce the most feminine females. That is certainly true with this bull and his maternally consistent family. — Top: 3% (TENDERNESS), 15% (WW, DMI), 25% ($W, $F), 30% ($EN, YW), 35% (CED, SC)

FEED EFFICIENCY for the future As ranchers, feed is the single largest input cost. Selecting for feed efficient animals is one way to decrease cost without compromising performance. Toward that goal, this year Lienetics put 8 fall bulls and WTR placed 12 spring bulls on the Werner Feed Efficiency test in Iowa. Data collected at the test is included in the American Angus Association’s EPD calculations for Feed Efficiency (RADG and DMI). Understanding inherent traits in our cattle and their feed efficiency genetics, helps us better select for optimum genetics to pass on to our customers. Collecting high quality data is the catalyst for genetic improvement and economic sustainability.

MIDLAND BULL TEST Lo n g Time Pe r fo r m er s i n t h e M i dl a n d Bu l l Te st Lienetics Ranch and Willer Timber Ridge have placed bulls at the toughest bull tests in the country for over twenty years…Midland Bull Tests (MT) and IBEP (Purdue/IN). Lienetics Ranch had the Champion ADG bull at Midland Bull Test (MT) in 2012 and in a prior test, had the #4 High Gain Sire Group. Willer Timber Ridge had the #2 ADG bull in 2009, #2 ADG get-of-sire in 2010, and the Champion ADG bull, over all breeds, in 2015. WTR has also had the #1 Performance index bull and #1 carcass merit bull at the IBEP (Purdue/IN) bull test in 2016. For over a decade, our two programs have consistently been in the top tier of performance at both of these highly competitive and highly respected bull tests, and sold to renowned ranches such as Vermilion, Wagonhamer, and Krebs.
MIDLAND BULL TEST
We are Angus breeders with a program…based upon the needs of the progressive commercial cattleman. We will continue to prove our “Bull Maker Moms” by testing their progeny for growth, feed efficiency, and carcass quality at the toughest competitions in the nation! This year at Midland Lientics Ranch has (3) bulls on test that are prospects to sell April 5th. You can view these bulls at midlandbulltest.com and can find them by the lot numbers shown on the bulls below. If you have questions or further interest, please contact Sydni (402-560-3792) or Ted (765-721-0420). We can assist with your purchase and delivery.

For the past few years we’ve included heifers on our sale; however, we don’t often offer our elite females. Over the years we’ve worked on our genetic selections to produce optimum influence females. This year we are excited to offer you some of those top females. They are cross section of our replacement pen, and will offer you many opportunities for both show potential and production advancement, as a foundation cow or donor. You will find these females to be ultra feminine in their type, structurally correct, highly fertile, moderate, efficient, great udders, and raise big calves with minimal input. As well, these females are built for longevity and will have great maternal instincts and value.

Trevor L. Lienemann
August 12, 1967 — November 25, 2018
I struggled to figure out the perfect thing to say about Trevor. He was so much more than a husband, father, son, friend, cattleman, neighbor, host. I wanted to share how impactful his life was, and how he strived to emulated the “Good to Great” principle (i.e., Good is the enemy of Great) in everything he did, but anyone who encountered him already knows that. He was a Great guy! Instead, I will share that Trevor’s life on this earth was not easy, from work, to play and everything in between Trevor went hard; life was hard. Trevor suffered from depression for many years. As a family, we enjoyed many ups, but also struggled through numerous downs and fought hard alongside him. However, on November 25th, 2018 he lost his earthly battle, but gained eternal peace. Looking through photos to prepare for the memorial, I found one of my all time favorites of Trevor reading to the kids. These words seem more relevant now than ever. The last page reads:
Small said, "But what about when we are dead and gone, will you love me then, does love go on?" …Large (replied) "Look at the stars, how they shine and glow, some of the stars died a long time ago. Still they shine in the evening skies, for you see…love like starlight never dies…” Trevor’s love will never die. It will live on through his family. He loved his family very much. Trevor wrote notes about everything; his desk was full of them. Some mean more than others.
Trevor and I started this life adventure in 1992. Twenty six years later, it’s hard to imagine! He started with a dream of building a cattle operation 1992 for his children and grandchildren. We started small with 6 registered 2018 Angus cows. We didn’t have anything to speak of for resources, so we improvised. The picture to the left shows how we “rolled” early on (I painted that sign). Trevor worked very hard to build a quality herd and teach our children that through hard work, honesty and dedication anything was possible.
2003
Trevor and I once heard someone say, “We don’t use our kids to raise our cattle; we use our cattle to raise our kids.” That was certainly true for us. In the short 26 years we were married, and the 25 years of raising kids with cattle, we learned that there is no better teacher. Our children have learned so much and grown into people we are proud to turn the brand over to. They helped build everything we have, so it only makes sense that they would carry on the tradition. There is no doubt Trevor will be missed, but the kids and I will do our very best to ensure that every animal with the LC brand represents everything Trevor worked so hard for. Trevor wanted so much to leave a legacy for his children; however, the legacy he left was his children. 2017
