DEJONG RANCH Cattlemen, Our 55th annual bull sale marks another year of progress toward our goal of producing and marketing quality cattle that have been developed through multi-trait selection. Our bulls are designed to be ready to work in almost any conditions as they have continually performed in the challenging terrain of south central South Dakota. Hardiness and endurance have allowed us to produce bulls that are designed to work for many years.

In the 60 years of artificial insemination work coupled with 30 years of embryo transfer technology, DeJong Ranch has selected key breed traits to strive to produce and improve. We aim to provide quality stock that possess the ability to perform and make a profit. Livestock that convert to yield marketable pounds and be superior in terms of carcass merit has been a key goal. We hope you see our progress through our animals' EPD's and phenotype. We will share the results of scan data on our website leading up to the sale as well as have it available on March 2nd.

There has been much excitement on the ranch over this set of genetics. We are confident in the ability of these individuals to offer something for each producer. We hope that you will find the benefit of growth, carcass merit, maternal endurance, and calving vigor within these lots. DeJong Ranch stands behind the genetics and strives to develop bulls and females that will positively impact specific breed development and the cattle industry in general.

We are retaining an in-herd semen interest in all bulls at sellers' expense and buyers' convenience.

3. Tune into the sale and make your purchases.

Ultrasound Data The bulls will be ultrasounded and weighed in February by Kama Bruns and sent to the National CUP Lab. The results will be available on our website as we receive them. Bulls that are too young or too old from the 365 day target will lack adjusted data.

Breeding Guarantee All bulls are guaranteed breeders. The 18month-old bulls are fertility tested. It will be the responsibility of the buyer to have the yearling bulls fertility tested before they are turned out with the cows or before 15 months of age. The seller reserves the privilege to prove a bull is a breeder. If the bull fails to prove a breeder, the seller will either replace the bull with another of equal quality or give credit to the buyer at the next sale less any salvage value of the bull. In the event that a bull becomes permanently injured or dies within the first breeding season, if notified promptly, the seller shall allow credit to the buyer or one half the purchase price toward another bull less any salvage value.

Delivery We are offering free delivery in South Dakota and Nebraska and will assist as we can to other states. It is the responsibility of the buyer to contact the seller to discuss delivery options. At the conclusion of the auction, all SAL E U PD A T E S A V A I L A B L E : lots purchased in the auction become the legal property of their respective buyers. Bulls and heifers are penned and ready to be seen from February 20th to February 28th at the ranch. Bulls and heifers will be transported to Kimball Livestock Exchange on Wednesday, March 1st and will be available for viewing.

With a wide range of interests and customer needs we have developed a star system to aid you in selecting the best bull for your operation.

Bulls have been evaluated on the following characteristics: 1. Calving Ease 2. Pound Making Ability 3. Carcass Merit 4. Structure 5. Show Appeal 6. Female Making Ability 7. Cow Family Each bull or heifer in our offering must hit the minimum requirements of our sale standard. Each animal that has met the sale standard has been evaluated in the seven categories on a five star scale.

60 Plus Open Heifers for Your Consideration Heifer Lot Criteria

Genetics: The heifers being offered on the sale are genetically between 25%-100% Angus with the rest being Maine-Anjou. From the beginning of DeJong Ranch, the promotion of the multitrait selection and power of hybrid vigor has been a key to making cows that have longevity and a production focus. We feel that having a strong Angus base on all of these heifers keeps the functionality in their production while adding a shot of Maine-Anjou genetics will improve their offspring’s’ carcass and muscle production.

Condition: We have been developing all of these heifers on the same ration program as our registered heifers to promote healthy growth with the emphasis on complete nutrition and a high roughage diet. All of these heifers being offered are still in their lean growth phase to help ensure sound breeding and correctness of fat development. These heifers range in age and development from February 1st to April 30th of 2022.

Sale format: The heifers will be split into lots of five or ten head that match up in their genetics, age, and performance. Some of these heifers will be able to be registered and we will group those heifers within the same lots.

Open heifers from previous sales, representing the type of quality to expect.

2023 Sale Format Full details on how lots will be grouped, and data will be made available one week prior to the sale through a supplemental sheet. This will also be posted on DVAuction and be available at the sale facility.

If you want to register those heifers that have that option, there will be an additional $25 per head charge for registration.
