All bulls have been semen tested and given a complete breeding physical by Dr. Bob Schmitt of Chinook Veterinary Clinic, (406)357-2850. They are current on immunizations, have been vaccinated with Fusoguard for footrot, Maxi/ Guard for pinkeye and tested negative for BVD-PI.

The bulls are on feed and available for viewing at Hould Bull Development Center, located at 5867 Hwy 363 southwest of Malta, MT. They will be available for inspection at the Blaine County Fairgrounds in Chinook, MT starting the afternoon of Monday, April 1st.

Retained Interest

Nissen Angus and Schmitt Angus are retaining 1/3 revenue share on every bull sold in this sale. This allows for the right to share in the collection of semen and the right to share semen and certificate revenue should the opportunity arise. Full possession and full salvage value sells on all bulls.

Trucking and Delivery

We will offer free delivery within Montana on all bulls purchased. Further distances will be billed at cost. Buyers who pick up their bulls at the sale site on sale day or the day after will be given a $50 rebate per bull.

Performance Information

EPDs are current as of March 7, 2019. Updated EPDs can be viewed online at www.angus.org. All bulls selling were HD50K tested and their EPDs are genomically enhanced. The spring bulls were ultrasounded for carcass merit by AAA certified technician, Sonja Gregory.

Hello Fellow Producers! We’d like to invite you to our Annual Production Sale on April 3, 2019 at the Blaine County Fairgrounds in Chinook, MT. The bulls will be available at the fairgrounds for you to view starting on the afternoon of Monday, April 1st. 2018 proved to have many challenges – we endured one of the toughest winters on record and then before our snow had even melted, we started flooding. Despite the difficult conditions, the calves came through and performed well for us again this year. As we continue to grow our herd, we are focusing on mother cows that exhibit performance, structural correctness, strong maternal traits and carcass ability - all in a low-input, practical package. We are working hard to provide our customers with low maintenance, highly functional cattle that perform and pay in pounds. Our customer’s success is a direct reflection of our program’s success and we place a big emphasis on making sure our customers are happy with their purchases. We have converted our fall calving cows to our spring program to better manage our resources. This will be our last year offering fall born bulls. All the bulls have been parent verified, carcass ultrasounded, performance and fertility tested. To provide you with the most predictable and accurate selection tools, we have also HD50K tested every bull in our sale offering. These genomicenhanced EPDs offer increased predictability and valuable insight for the selection process. We have continued to ultrasound our bulls for carcass merit. We feel it’s important to provide that data along with all the other selection tools as it gives you a complete representation of each bull’s full potential. The bulls are on feed at Hould Bull Development Center west of Malta, MT and available for you to view at any time. The bulls have been fed a high roughage ration to ensure soundness and longevity. All have been given Fusogard to help prevent footrot, Maxi/Guard for pinkeye and tested negative for BVD-PI. Although it started out mild, this winter turned out to be brutal for everyone and we can’t thank Bruce, Linda, Lance and their crew enough for the great care they gave these bulls. They are great to work with and always try to accommodate everyone’s schedules and deadlines. It gives us a great peace of mind knowing our bulls are in such great hands. Lane, Taryn and Scott Schmitt of Schmitt Angus continue to be our special guests and offer some of their own bulls for sale. Barb Korenjak of Corey A Ranch in Oregon continues to partner on some cows with us and any bulls resulting from those cows will be offered in the sale. The Schmitt and Korenjak families are good friends and we are fortunate to have the opportunity to work with them. We are blessed to be surrounded by family and friends who support us. We could not do what we love to do without them. Sale time is one of our most favorite times of the year and it is truly a family affair. We aren’t always able to get together as a family on holidays, but every year our family comes together during sale time. Everyone does their part in helping us put on the sale and it ends up being our version of holiday family time. Renown is a full brother to Resource with less birth weight. We used him to produce thick, deep bulls with good performance and moderate framed, easy fleshing, good uddered, and good footed females. We have been very impressed with the Renown progeny and used him again this year.

Thank you for your interest in our offering at the 2019 Nissen Angus Bull Sale. We are extremely grateful to our past customers for your support and look forward to gaining new customers and friends this year. Our sincere thanks to Jeff and Christie for their friendship and allowing us to market our bulls through their annual sale. We also need to thank our parents, Bob and Maureen, for their support of our cowherd. We are very excited about the 10 bulls we are offering. We think this is the best set of bulls we have raised. These bulls represent the top 50% of our calf crop and are 90% AI sired. 7 of these bulls are sired by SAV Renown 3439 and we are very impressed with the muscle and performance of these bulls in a moderate package. We are also very excited for the easy fleshing, good footed Renown females with sensible mature size and milk. It has been a busy year for us, with Lane graduating veterinary school from Washington State and Scott graduating in Engineering from Montana Tech. We purchased NA Registry 547 in the 2016 sale and have been pleased with his calves the last few years. They have comparably weighed up with the earlier born AI calves at weaning. The bonus has been the bull calves we’ve marketed. They are a favorite sire group to those that see them. Mike Nissen - Jeff ’s brother keeps everything going at the farm in Harlem all year round. We can’t thank him enough for all he does for us. Dennis Donoven - We’ve gotten to be good friends with Dennis these past few years. He helps us out with cattle work when we need him and is always good for a laugh or two. Brad Weaver - Christie’s brother is always a reliable source of extra help. From farming, to working cows to helping take pictures, he always takes time out of his busy schedule to help us out and we sure appreciate it. Bronc Speak Thunder - Bronc is a good friend and great hand to have around. He was in a scary horse accident this past year and we are so thankful for the recovery he has made. Tyson is Bronc’s shadow whenever he’s around! Bob & Cindy Berg - Jeff ’s sister and brother-in-law are always on hand to help with the sale and any other task we ask of them. Cindy’s cooking is second to none and we are fortunate to have her and Bob handle the details for the meal and refreshments at the sale. The kids are always excited to see Uncle Bobby and Auntie Cindy! Jim & Louise Nissen - Jeff ’s uncle and aunt help in the kitchen during the sale and Jim helps with the cattle when we need an extra hand. The kids always manage to talk them out of some hugs and treats whenever they see them too! Bill & Duan Drugge - We’ve been blessed with the opportunity to get to know and work with Bill and Duan and their family. They are like grandparents to our children and we appreciate all they do for us. Carol Murch and Samantha Weaver - Our sister-in-laws are always on hand to help out whenever we ask. From sale day food service to watching kids, we are grateful to have them around Lane, Taryn and Scott - We are excited to have Lane and Taryn back in the area and look forward to watching them grow their family and careers. It’s also been fun to see Scott succeed in the career he has chosen and we are anxious to see what his future holds.
