We have been raising Quarter Horses since 1972. We are located northeast of Sturgis SD, living on the place that was homesteaded by Gary’s grandfather. During these 47 years of raising QHs we have continually worked on developing strong pedigrees that will make multitalented horses for use in several competitive events. Raised or purchased we look for horses with the qualities to fit a versatile performance profile. Our program now consists of YO Easy Onapepto, a 2015 black, own son of Peptos Blueprint by Peptoboonsmal. Peptos Blueprint has get that are proving themselves in cutting, WCH, ranch horse, roping and in the barrel pen. “Y”s bottom includes grandfather, Dash For Perks and Blondys Dude. He totally compliments the versatility aspect of our program. Our stallion battery also consists of the following: True Sparks A Flying, an own son of Smoke N Sparks; Hickorys Cash Wheel, with Peppy San Badger, Doc’s Hickory, Miss N Cash and Colonel Freckles all on his papers; Cowboys Shinin 811, a grandson of Shining Spark on top and Gunsmoke breeding on the bottom and last but not least Cowboys Boon A 411, who is a grandson of Boonlight Dancer by Peptoboonsmal and is Shining Spark bred on the bottom. We are members of the Ranchers Heritage Breeders, which makes any of our colts eligible to be paid up for Rancher Heritage Challenges. Our goal in breeding horses is to continue to raise the kind of appealing colts with strong pedigrees that will become intelligent, trainable and versatile riders.

Chaffee - Herron Ranch Sharon Herron

605.985.5235 | 15880 Chaffee Place, Union Center, SD

This is my 19th year with the RQHBA. I have been a member of AQHA since 1972 as a Breeders Referral and as a Ranching Heritage Breeder both since their inception. I strive to produce foals with super dispositions, conformation, strapped with colorful hides and the ability to compete in any venue. The mares and stallions run in large pastures with minimal human contact until I gather the 1st of August to halter break the foals. My parents always told me as a baby, I couldn’t tolerate ordinary milk so I was raised on wild mares milk. Guess you could say horses have been in my blood for a lifetime.

Welcome to the 2019 RQHBA sale. The Bender Ranch consignments this year are sure to please you. A lot of people/ranches were affected by the long, extremely cold, record setting snowfall/blizzards this year followed by relentless rain during the calving and foaling season. This weather sure made the pastures look good and if Mother Nature cooperates, there should be hay to put up again this year. I’m excited to present my foals for your consideration and have great expectations for them. All the foals from the Bender Ranch are AQHA Heritage Challenge eligible and I encourage you to enroll them, information is provided in the foal folders on sale day. Bender Ranch foals are eligible for RQHBA Futurities as well. Whether you are looking for talented athletes for futurities, gentle beauties for the show ring, dispositions for you 4-H’er, ranch or rodeo horses in a variety of colors, stop by our pen and check out my offering. I also have top bred weanlings for sale at the ranch. Our colts are raised in open country where they have continual exposure to day to day elements, terrain and other animals including our cattle. Currently standing stallions with the bloodlines consisting of Orphan Drift, Sak Em San, Colonel Freckles, Docs Oak Sugar, Doc Bar, Sun Frost, Miss N Cash, Snippy’s Cowboy, Badgers Rodeo Red, Cee Booger Red, Look Whos Larkin, and Sugar Bars. 605.993.3256 | 24900 Spring Draw Rd., Scenic, SD 57780 | HMQH@gwtc.net | www.HMQH.com Welcome to the 19th Annual RQHBA Sale! For over 25 years we have been breeding the kind of horse that can do whatever you want them to – ranch, rodeo, go to the show pen or just down the trails. In 2019, Harlan was inducted into the AQHA Hall Of Fame. These Harlan horses will provide an outcross on any of the modern bloodlines and you will be pleased with the result. In 2019, another of our favorite bloodlines, Zan Parr Jack, will also go into the Hall of Fame. You will find both of their influences in our offerings. Our mares predominately carry the blood of Harlan with outcrosses to Zan Parr Jack, Roan Wolf and Cee Booger Red. We know that the broodmares are the heart of any program. Our mares all run out 24/7/365, get along well, and raise a good foal.

We currently stand 3 stallions. Harlans Top Gun, is siring colts that have his looks, disposition, athletic ability and, as an added bonus, color. Sabre Charged, is 25% Harlan. Sabre has 27 AQHA performance points in heading and heeling and a World Show Qualifier, and point earning offspring. Watch Joe Gamble, is a big, gentle, smooth moving horse, his blood combines some of the best from two great South Dakota breeding programs (Crago and Stearns). We always have some young horses and foals at the ranch, that are not in the sale. If you are interested, give us a call, friend us on Facebook or check out the web site for what is currently available. Come see us anytime! We are located just on the western edge of the badlands. We always like any reason to go look at the horses. — Tom, Mary and Reva

He may be bay but he won’t be plain. Take a look at the build on him - then take a look at his pedigree. It’s not hard to imagine him going down the road in 6 or 7 years as someone’s main horse. We can’t say enough about these Cee Booger Red bred mares - they are producers. The cross of Harlan on Cee Booger Red has been a proven rodeo cross for years. Horses bred this way have carried many cowboys to the pay window and they aren’t easy to find.

Stirrup branded horses are known for disposition, bone, brains and speed. The ranch horse needs these traits along with endurance to travel big country. They carry the foundation bloodlines of Leo, Joe Reed II, Driftwood and high percentage of Sugar Bars plus a lot of color genetics. The Stirrup Branded horses are winning in the performance arena, including roping, barrels, 4-H, halter, and ranch rodeos and even in the equestrian jumping. People say they are a family one horse trailer horse. We have rode most of the mares before entering the broodmare band. All horses purchased from the Stirrup Ranch are eligible to compete in the AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenge. Stop by the ranch and see these horses in the ranch environment. Hello All. We have had a very blessed year and hope you have too! We continue to raise top quality AQHA horses. DASHING MOVE FAME had an exciting year coming out of retirement to be competed on by T. He ran in the top of the 1D barrels at his first three races and had a 20.5 second pole run. He competed in the barrels at the 2019 Young Guns and the Patriot. Then turned right around and was used in the Jr. American in the Heading! Ft. Worth was good to us and we couldn’t have been more honored to showcase our VERSATILE stallion there! His babies are making a name for themselves and his offspring are sought after. We still have our other “special” guy, STREAKIN HOTROD, holding his own at age 24. One of the few own sons of the great Streakin Six standing. He has tremendous muscle and bone with an excellent disposition all of which he passes on to his chromed up babies. We are sad to say we will not have an offering at this year’s sale. Our busy rodeo schedule just won’t allow it. We do hope you have a great time at the sale and we will see u all there next yr!

Where has the time gone? In the blink of an eye, it is horse sale time again! We are honored to be part of such a great sale and work with an awesome group of people! As a family, we share a passion for horses; from eagerly awaiting to see what the foals will be, halter breaking babies, starting the young ones, and enjoying the older ones. We believe that a true ranch horse can do anything, and we are seeing that with our babies! They have been successful in all walks of life - English and Western! We have 3 stallions that each hold a special place in our hearts. We are very excited that we have daughters of our 2 older stallions, Mr Royal Blake and Boonylensma in the broodmare band. They are crossing on our young stallion, Shield Five Ole Cat well! We feel we are finally getting our breeding program to where we want it to be; cow! Feel free to call, email, or stop by and visit us anytime, and ‘like’ us on Facebook: Shield Five Quarter Horses!
