Please allow me to thank you, on behalf of the Wyoming Angus Association and the consignors, for your interest in the 7th Annual Wyoming Angus Association Select Female Sale. I can’t express enough how grateful we are to you for your support of our sale. Every year I sit down to write this letter and reflect on the past sales and the great Angus females that have passed through them.

It makes me proud when I am visiting with a past buyer and how well an animal they purchased though this sale has done within their herd. It is with equal satisfaction that I watched the Wyoming Angus Association Select Female Sale Futurity Show, and the Open Angus Show for that matter, at the Wyoming State Fair this year. You couldn’t help but appreciate the depth of quality of the females purchased at last year’s sale and the superb job that group of young Angus breeders did in presenting them.

Getting back to this year’s sale, it looks to be another strong and diverse offering of Angus genetics. There is once again an incredibly deep set of bred heifers that should go right into any program and have an immediate impact. There is an equally impressive set of heifer calves, whether you are looking for your next Futurity Show heifer or a young female to add to the front end of your replacement pen. As an exiting addition this year the sale includes a pregnant recip carrying a really exiting mating, which is something we have never had in the sale before. There are also a couple of embryo lots out of two very well proven donor dams and one registered Angus show steer prospect. As you can see this offering has a little something for everyone.

As has become our tradition the Wyoming Angus Association will again be holding its Annual Meeting and Banquet the night before the sale at the Central Wyoming Fairgrounds in Casper. We invite you to join us for an evening of Angus fellowship topped off by a complimentary Certified Angus Beef ® steak dinner.

A Message From The Sale Manager:

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the pages of the 2017 Wyoming Angus Association’s Select Female Sale Catalog.

Throughout most of 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 we have witnessed unprecedented price levels in all segments of the beef complex. Despite a serious downturn in the market last fall, our commercial markets, feeder cattle and fed cattle, have rebounded to profitable levels. With the current strength of the economy comes solid domestic demand for our great tasting US beef, the opening of the Chinese market and strengthening of all beef exports, our future indeed looks bright. With that comes opportunity to broaden one’s margins with superior genetics, technology and management. Now’s the time to invest in superior and proven genetics to insure optimum production & performance in your breeding operation.

As Curt and I evaluated the sale cattle candidates, my conclusion: This is a serious set of bred heifers, open heifer calves, embryos and a pregnancy offered by a very serious, reputable group of consignors who utilize only the very top Angus genetics to provide a genetic product with value and reliability.

You will find a long list of females in this catalog that are bred to contribute positively in all aspects of the efficient production of high quality beef.

This classy looking Registered Angus Steer is stout featured, wide based and big middled. He is sired by the phenotypical standout, SAC Conversation and is out of a fancy Brilliance daughter that was one of the high selling bred heifers from the 2014 Select Female Sale. He is eligible to win up to $750 at the Wyoming Angus Association Steer Show at State Fair next summer.

‘Rita 752’ blends the maternal goodness of EXT, Bando 598, Bismarck and Alliance 6595 into a moderate framed, docile package. Her sire, FRANK Lookout 175, is a six-year old and still going strong. We continue to use him heavily because of his tendency to improve feet, structure and udders-We keep nearly every heifer calf. Her dam is a first calf heifer and a daughter of one of our most maternally reliable cows, SMR Rita 0227. We normally don’t let a heifer like this leave the ranch, but one of the partners needs to pay for college, so here she is.

Wyoming Angus Association Futurity Who is eligible?

Any member of the Wyoming Junior Angus Association, 4-H or FFA who purchases an open heifer calf at the Wyoming Angus Association Select Female Sale.

How do I sign up?

When you are going through the clerking process following the sale let them know you would like to participate in the futurity. The clerks will ad a $50/head entry fee to your purchase price, which the consignor will match. You will then have until January 1, 2018 to have your Angus female transferred to your American Angus Association (AAA) Membership Number. If you are not currently a member of the AAA do not worry it is a very simple process and only requires a $20 annual Junior membership with the AAA. This can be completed at anytime following the sale as long as the registration transfer is completed prior to January 1st.

When is the show?

Emma Mercer of Hyattville exhibited the Champion Futurity Female at the 2017 Show. She purchased this heifer from Nickel Cattle Co. of Veteran at the 2016 WAA Select Angus Female Sale. Emma received $1,000 and a buckle presented by Kevin and Jackie Nickel.

The futurity show will take place at the 2018 Wyoming State Fair during the Open Angus Show.

What can I win?

You will be competing for $2,500 in cash prizes with the Champion receiving $1,000 along with a buckle.

Reserve Champion will also receive a cash award along with a buckle and the remaining purse will be divided among the remaining participants on a basis of placing.
