Welcome to our 28th Annual Genetics with Vision Bull and Female sale and our 47th year of selling Simmental Genetics. Thank you for your interest!
Our growing season had just enough rain and lots of sunshine. Our pastures held up longer than usual and our crops yielded well. Weaning weights on the calves were very good and the cows maintained their condition.
Once again we retained ownership of our steers and finished them at a custom feed lot. We again were very pleased with how they performed and the premiums we earned. This is evidence that the economic indexes work.
The black purebred program is strong with several standouts from RFS Credentials, RFS Roll Call, Breakaway, and Pontiac. If you are in the market for a percentage bull, check out the impressive Cochise group. The red purebred side has a large sire group by our outcross Guardian son, Octane and a smaller group of RFS Bruno sons that are super stout. For the first time, our aged bulls spent most of their time at Justis’ place this year and really did well there.
The bred heifers are sired by some of the top sires in the breed and are carrying cutting edge progeny. It is the best group we have ever offered. The open heifers absolutely come from the top of the herd! This class of open heifers is exceptional. We’d love to have you come and take a look yourself and see. They. Are. Good. Happily, we are able to offer some elite embryo packages as well. New this year—we are excited to offer commercial bred heifers from Holm Family Farms and Joel, Amy and Daniel Stenseng. Quality programs bringing quality red and black heifers. You can read more about this new offering at the end of the catalog. Also new this year—we are excited to offer the Right Bull program. If you have been following our program, you know that we try to make use of every tool available to eliminate as many as the un -
knowns as possible in our breeding stock. Allied Genetic Resources and Top Genomics now have a program known as Right Bull to help in the breeding livestock selection process. Commercial cattlemen can now take a tissue sample from their females and get the genomic information including parent verification to help select the best herd sire to move their program forward. This precision breeding program is known as Right Bull. There are lots of excellent genetics out there and this helps narrow the search for the Right Bull. We would like to partner with any of our customers who would like to pursue this. We will provide the sample kits and tool for collecting the tissue sample for DNA analysis and will give sale credit for ½ the DNA cost. We also will give sale credit for the Right Bull information ($300.00). We know an investment in genetics is an important decision and want you to have confidence in your decision. Feel free to contact us if you have questions regarding this program. We will have people from Allied Genetic Resources here sale day as well to answer any questions. We would love to see you in person on sale day, however, if that is not an option, join us on DVAuction or contact one of our sale representatives. Finally, we thank you for your past support and friendship. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help you in your selection process. Feel free to stop by the farm before the sale-visitors are always welcome!
Sincerely, The Rydeen Family

DONOR DAM TO LOTS 1-3
Prelude was one of the most sought-after females in the 2024 season: a Genesis daughter with “the look.” Produced by Bridle Bit Simmental’s, we knew she had to come to Minnesota. We named her Prelude- “an introduction to something important” as we knew she would be the beginning of something great! She exhibits the pen presence of a superstar donor. Objectively, she possesses all the attributes of an excellent donor but also has the attributes that are harder to measure--temperament, fertility and mothering abilities--it’s all there! The Prelude X RFS Credentials and the Prelude X Cochise progeny are different phenotypically, but, all really, really good! They are foundational genetics you could build a herd from. The first Prelude X RFS Credentials embryos sold in last year’s sale commanded $4500.00 each. We have elite embryos of Prelude in the embryo division.

Flush mates in top economic percentiles with eye appeal and capacity • All have the G+ rating
Outstanding genomic value

RFS Credentials was sold in our 2024 sale to Black Summit in Wyoming. Very smooth made, his progeny are exceptional. We mated him to our powerhouse donor Prelude and were fortunate to get a bunch of elite bulls and females to offer. With 800# weaning weights, double digit calving ease and a gorgeous phenotype, we think you will like the yearling bulls as much as we do! But, wait, there’s more! Take a look at the open heifer offering. When the first RFS Credentials daughter walked int o the pen, our photographer, Riley, put down his camera and asked “Are you sure you want to sell her?” They are special alright.

• The only one in the world!

RFS Traveler was our high selling bull in 2024. Unfortunately, it was a struggle to freeze semen so there was a very limited supply. Undeterred, we decided we wanted to try him using fresh semen in an IVF flush and in a fresh conventional flush here at the farm. The problem was that Traveler was being collected in Nebraska. So, we called on my brother Carl, the pilot, to help us out. He and Justis flew to Nebraska, picked up the semen, flew to Madison, Wisconsin dropped some off, then flew back to Minnesota and Justis drove the rest of it back to the farm just in time. It worked! We got 3 heifers and 1 bull out of the conventional flush at the farm.

SIRE TO LOTS 13-29
The Breakaway progeny are superb and are our largest sire group. With nearly every bull in the sale with a triple digit TI these boys are stout! Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using EPDs, the difference between two sires’ EPDs represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A and B have EPDs of +10 and -5, a 15-unit difference would be expected in their progeny (moving from -5 to +10 yields 15 units). Key to using EPDs is knowing in what units they are expressed. For example, if the above case referred to weaning weight EPDs, sire A would be expected to sire 15 pounds more weaning weight than sire B. If calving ease was the trait, sire A would be expected to sire 15 percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers; in other words, if sire B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we would expect sire A to require 15 assists. A percentileranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s EPDs rank him relative to other bulls in the breed. For more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes, visit www.simmental.org. Listed below are the units in which ASA EPDs are expressed:
Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers.
Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight.
Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight.
Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight.
Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters.
Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk.
Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth.
Stayability (STAY): Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at six years of age.
Docility (DOC): Percent of offspring receiving a disposition score of 1 (docile).
Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight at 475 days.
Yield Grade (YG): Carcass yield grade score at 475 days.
Marbling (Marb): Carcass marbling score at 475 days.

GALILEO 210G

Back Fat (BF): Inches of carcass back fat at 475 days.
Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of carcass ribeye at 475 days.
Warner-Bratzler Shear Force (WBSF): Pounds of force required to shear a rib-eye steak.
All-Purpose Index (API): Dollars per cow exposed under an all-purpose-sire scenario. (See $ Indexes for more details.)
Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario. (See TI for more details.)
$ Indexes: Though EPDs allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide pieces of the economic puzzle. This is where $ indexes come in. Through well-conceived, rigorous mathematical computation, $ indexes blend EPDs and economics to estimate an animal’s overall impact on integrated commercial production. The same technology that led to the dramatic progress in swine, poultry and dairy genetics over the last several decades was used to develop the following $ indexes:
All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield.
Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sires for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield.
Using API and TI: First, determine which index to use; if you are keeping replacements use API, if not, use TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described above, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a +50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr.=$6,000). A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes, visit: www.simmental.org

RFS Roll Call sold in our 2024 sale to ST Genetics and Gibbs Farms. A son out of our Global bull, he produces fancy bulls and females with big hips and wide tops! He is the sire to Lots 30-32 in the yearling bull group and Lot 127 in the open heifer division.

The high selling bull in Cow Camp Ranch’s 2022 sale. Purchased for use on heifers, this sleek, smooth sided stud is a senior herd sire at Rydeen Farms. The progeny have incredible maternal traits. Cochise is a ½ blood so his progeny are ideal for those looking for a smaller amount of Simmental punch in their herd without sacrificing performance while maintaining a frame score we like.

SIRE TO LOTS 45-56
Pontiac was our pick and the high seller at the Great Lakes Beef Connection Sale from John Miller’s program. This high selling Essential son sires cattle with performance and physical correctness. Performance, Profit and Peace of Mind. His sons were popular in our 2025 sale due to their outcross pedigree and overall attractiveness. This group of Pontiacs all weaned in the 800# range.

Octane was the “plus one” when we purchased the Genome donor from Clear Springs Cattle. He was the bull calf at side when we bought his dam. The Octane sire group is our largest red sire group. This dark red Guardian grandson has a lot to appreciate. As a yearling bull, he bred every red cow in the pasture that didn’t settle AI. Top tier carcass quality and top tier economic indexes in an outcross purebred package.

RFS Bruno was sold in our 2023 sale to Diamond H Ranch in Kansas. With Electra and Gadget in his pedigree, he has really performed well. Mated to our Lucy donor, the results speak for themselves. Powerful bulls and powerful females! Check out Lot 130 in the open heifer section. She is nice!

• They are powerful with excellent weaning and yearling weights
• All are G+ rated and 3 are ATMs

REUBEN L. RYDEEN 1927-2025

Dad passed away this past spring while watching TV with Mom. He was born here in Section 27 of Leon Township and was a part of Rydeen Farms for nearly 100 years. A problem solver with an unmatched work ethic, we see his handiwork daily. Trained in World War II as an electrician, we can’t turn on a light switch without thinking about how he was such an integral part of building our infrastructure. When Mom and Dad weren’t wintering in warmer climates, Dad would come to the farm and see where we needed help. Extremely versatile and always willing, he would help the kids with their Homecoming float or install a new breaker box or jump in a tractor to finish tillage. He loved to plant corn and drive the combine. We miss him.

Look closely at this class of bred heifers, they are the best we have raised. The females themselves are beautiful and the progeny they are carrying are special. Take a look at the estimated calf epds on this group! They are top notch! We start this division with a couple of knockout Breakaway daughters--we have many sons in the yearling and aged bull division, and his daughters are just as impressive! We are extremely pleased with the females out of Pontiac. They. Are. Good. Then, the Cochise daughters come along and they are brood cow deluxe! The red bred heifer division is small but mighty. All four are carrying AI calves and are radiant!

Holm Family Farm is family run operation near Shevlin, MN. We are beef producers, heifer developers and grain farmers. We’ve always had a soft spot in our hearts for the red cattle but we ventured into some black hides this year and we couldn’t be happier. We greatly appreciate this partnership opportunity with Rydeen Farms and can’t thank them enough for the knowledge and generosity! Great people and great cattle!
These 25 heifers were purchased directly from Rydeen Farms and also from Stenseng Farms (a herd that is heavily influenced by Rydeen genetics). This group of heifers been a “fan favorite” of ours ever since they got to our farm! All heifers were synchronized and AI bred on June 24th and will be due to start calving on or near April 2nd, 2025. The red gals were AI’d to RFS Electrify L46 (ASA# 4220293) and the blacks were AI’d to TRIF Gridmaster 207K (ASA# 4115567). They were cleaned up with a hetero black Purebred Simmental (ASA# 4255613) for 45 days. Heifers were confirmed pregnant by Turtle River Veterinary Service. Heifers have been recipients of a very complete vaccine program (including RFID bangs) and a complete Purina mineral program. If heifers are sold out of state, the proper health inspection paperwork will be provided. A supplemental sheet will be provided sale day.
The heifers will be on-site at Rydeen Farms on sale day for viewing. They are also available to view prior to the sale. For more information, please contact Ryan Holm at 218-556-8448.
We would like to thank the Rydeen’s for the opportunity to offer a select group (20) of our home raised black SimAngus and Angus heifers on their 2026 sale.
Our cow herd is predominantly Angus based and have been crossbred with Simmental and SimAngus genetics from Rydeen Farms for the past several years. All heifers were AI bred to TRIF Gridmaster 207K ( owned by Rydeen Farms) on 6/16/25 and pasture exposed to two Angus heifer bulls, (+11 CED, BW -2.1 and +13 CED, BW -1.2) from 6/29/25 to 9/16/25. All heifers in the sale were ultrasounded on 12/23/25 by Turtle River Veterinary Service and confirmed 5-5+ months bred. All heifers were vaccinated in May with ViraShield 6L5 and UltraBac 8 and wormed with Long Range, they were re-vaccinated in November and poured with Clean Up II. Heifers will have 2 doses of ScourBos prior to sale day. Please call Joel at 218-556-7381 with any questions.
