It is a crazy time to be in the cattle business right now with these all-time highs! As I write this, we are seeing kill cows bringing $1.30+, kill bulls bringing $1.60+ a lb and fat cattle bringing well north of $2.00 lb! This is a good time to sell those old herd bulls to trade them in on a younger bull with fresh genetics! With feeder calves selling for around $2,000 a head and fat cattle selling for around $3,000 a head it only takes 2-3 head to trade in to purchase your next herd sire that will have a long lasting impact on your herd and bottom line!

Our bulls are developed on a high roughage diet that consists of silage, alfalfa, corn, protein pellet and dry hay. We feel it is very important to keep the bulls full on dry hay, so we offer a choice of dry hay. The bulls are developed in a 5-acre pasture to let them get enough exercise and play around like bulls like to do! Our goal is that these bulls last for our customers, bulls remain sound, problem free and long-time genetic contributors to your herd! Our bulls are not pushed! We shoot for 3 lb a day gain so they are ready to be breeding machines when we deliver them to your ranch! The bulls are parent-verified, genomic-enhanced EPD’s, carcass ultrasound and complete performance data! The bulls are on a full mineral and vaccine protocol! Bulls will be semen tested a week before the sale so you can buy with confidence!

The females are fed a TMR ration consisting of dry hay, sorghum sudan grass mix baleage, and ryelage. We also roll out dry bale of hay in the corn field for them to graze and get their exercise. We make the cows walk a ¼ mile back to the yard for water. The bred heifers & cows on the sale are not pampered or sorted off from the main cowherd. The cows get free choice blueprint loose mineral, salt blocks and are on a full vaccine protocol, Johnes tested and cleared and have received guardian for scour protection for the calves! Bred females will be preg checked a week before the sale to confirm they are pregnant!

We feel a solid foundation is very important in the cow calf operation and that it all starts with the momma cow! We focus hard on a maternal foundation, and you will see many of the bulls we use are backed by momma cows that produce well into their teens! Our cattle are bred for balance with a strict culling criteria so they can be productive and have longevity built into the pedigrees to equal profitability! We also cull for disposition, udder quality and structural soundness.

Feeding & Delivery

Bulls are kept till May 1st free of charge. After that there will be a $4/ day charge. Free delivery in MN and surrounding states for accumulated purchases of $3,500 or more (bulls & heifers). Take your bull home sale day and receive $50 off per bull.

Freeport Veterinary Service 320-836-2788 All animals are guaranteed healthy on sale day and on delivery day.

Terms and Conditions

Terms of sale are cash or check. No animals will be released from the farm until full payment is made. Cattle will sell according to the terms and conditions suggested by the Red Angus Association of America.

Guarantee

All animals are sold to be guaranteed breeders. Bulls will pass a breeding soundness exam before delivery. Open heifers will be confirmed open and breedable before the sale. Bred heifers will be confirmed bred before the sale. In the events of unsatisfactory breeding performance, either a replacement bull or sale credit will be provided, when the defective animal is returned to us in a good state of health.

Semen Interest

A&R Red Angus is retaining 1/3 semen interest and selling 100% possession in all the bulls unless other terms are state. If semen is collected it will be done at sellers’ expense and buyers’ convenience.

Supplement Sheet

A supplement sheet will be available prior to sale day. Supplement sheet will include carcass ultrasound data, scrotal circumference, current weights, and average daily gain.

Insurance

Animals become the property of the buyer when the sale is over. We recommend getting insurance on the animals.

Liability

Any person attending the sale does so at their own risk. Neither the owners, or any person connected with this sale assumes any liability, legal or otherwise for any accidents or injuries that happen on the farm.

Sale Credit

Anyone who contacts us to discuss the bulls will receive $150 sale credit.

Sale credit is only good for bulls. Sale day is always a busy day so we encourage you to call ahead of time so we can go over the offering with you. We want you to be 100% satisfied with your purchase when the sale is over!

Auction Format

The sale will be broadcasted entirely online at www.DVAuction. All lots will close at 4:00 PM CDT on March 15th.

If any lot is bid on with 5 minutes prior to 4:00 PM CDT March 15th, bidding will be extended for an additional 5 minutes on all lots. Bidding will then close when there are no bids placed on any lots for a period of 5 minutes.

It’s no secret that the commercial guy gets paid by the pounds he brings to town. Scale Crusher is the heaviest weaning weight bull we’ve ever raised and he sure is to add substantial weight to your calf crop. On test he gained 3.9 lbs. a day ratioing 124 and weighing 1405 lbs. on Feb 2nd! He brings this performance with style, featuring a nice Angus skull, smooth front shoulders, excellent depth of body, extra length of spine, extra bone and stands on a great set of jet-black feet! M419 is backed by one of the most fertile cows on the ranch 9171. M419’s flush sister is the top heifer in our replacement pen. Be sure to check her out on sale day as well as Scale Crusher! RED ANGUS BULLS If you are looking for 2 bulls to run on a group of cows together take a look at these two Working Class sons! As both bulls pushed down the scale at weaning time with M427 weighing 650 lbs. ranking 1 out of 6 and ratio’d 108! M418 was right behind him at 631 lbs. ranking 2 out of 6 and ratio’d 105! On Feb 2nd both bulls weighed the exact same at 1090 lbs. with M427 having an ADG of 3.2 and M418 having an ADG of 3.6!

M427 goes back to NSFR TJ B115 who was the first bred heifer we purchased that got us started in the seedstock business! At the age of 10 she stands on a good set of feet and sets down a good functional udder! M427’s dam 113H settled AI the first 3 years and has a calving interval of 371 days! M403 has been a standout all summer long! If you are looking for a calving ease option with good growth, be sure to check out M403! M403 came into this world at 69 lbs. and weaned off at 709 lbs. by a first-calf heifer! The 5L Foreman 370E are good cattle. His sons sold well in our sale last year and have made happy customers! This will more than likely be the last Foreman son to sell as we used up his semen and now purchased a Foreman son (Dahlke Working Class 231K) ourselves to use. M403 is out of a 2-year-old Bieber CL Stockmarket E119 daughter that had a beautiful, tight udder and perfect teat placement at calving time last year. M403’s granddam on the bottom side is our donor cow Bieber Sam 358Z who is turning 13 years old and will be calving at the beginning of our calving window! M403 is wide topped and stands on black hoof! His dam sells as lot 17!

Stout! That’s the first word that comes to mind when walking into the bull pen and laying your eyes on M422. M422 is a calving ease option that is big middle, extra length and easy fleshing. He is out of our old proven donor cow Bieber Rose 478Z who is turning 13 this spring and will be calving at the beginning of our calving window and is setting down a very nice functional udder! We sold 3 full brothers to M422 on our 3rd sale. One was our high seller for $5,500 to Paxton Carrier in Nebraska. If you are looking for older proven genetics M422 is your bull as his sire is a 2013 model and his dam is a 2012 model! M422’s flush sister sells as lot 19.

M431 is the only Bieber Tiberius G413 son to sell and probably the last son to sell! Bieber Tiberius G413 has done a great job for us and past customers have gotten along well with his progeny! RED ANGUS FEMALES Red Angus Guide to EPDS and Indexes ProS ... Profitability and Sustainability is an all-purpose index that predicts average economic differences in all segments in the beef supply chain. This index is a combination of the breeding objectives modeled in the HerdBuilder and GridMaster selection indexes.

In this index, replacement heifers are retained from within the herd and all remaining progeny are fed out to slaughter and sold on a quality-based grid. Traits included in this index include calving ease, growth, HPG, STAY, Mature Weight, Dry Matter Intake and carcass traits. The resulting index is expressed in dollars per head born (Index/High Value).

HB ..... HerdBuilder is a maternal selection index that predicts the economic differences of animals for traits that are important from conception through weaning. Expressed as dollars per head born, HB is calculated based on the scenario that bulls are mated to heifers and cows, replacement heifers are retained and all remaining progeny are marketed at weaning. Traits included in the HB index include Calving Ease Direct, Calving Ease Maternal, Weaning Weight, Milk, Mature Weight, Heifer Pregnancy and Stayability (Index/High Value).

GM..... GridMaster is a selection index that predicts the average economic difference of non-replacement calves through the postweaning phase of production. GM places selection pressure on growth, feedyard performance and carcass traits. Expressed as dollars per head born, GM is calculated based on the scenario that progeny are fed out to slaughter and marketed on a quality-based carcass grid. Traits included in GM include Average Daily Gain, Carcass Weight, Dry Matter Intake, Marbling, Back Fat and Rib Eye Area (Index/High Value).

CED ....... Calving Ease Direct predicts differences in the percent of calves born unassisted out of 2-year-old dams. (Percent/High Value)

CEM ...... Calving Ease Maternal predicts differences in the percent of daughters who are able to calve unassisted as 2-year-old heifers. (Percent/High Value)

BW ........ Birth Weight predicts differences in actual birth weight of progeny.

STAY...... Stayability predicts differences in the ability of an animals’ retained daughters to remain productive in the herd – calve every year – through 6 years of age. (Percent/High Value)
