Friends & Family, We welcome you to the Cattleman’s Kind Private Treaty Bull sale. This is our 5th annual sale and a special one for us as we reflect on the five generations of family members who have been raising cattle and farming this land for almost a century. It is that legacy that has inspired us to breed and select bulls that are built both phenotypically and genetically to be the cattleman’s kind. We are the first generation of our families to branch out and produce purebred seed stock. Given our terrain and the high standards of our family’s commercial operation we knew we were going to have to raise the best if we were going to make it into the herd bull pen. To provide you with a variety of options to suit your program’s needs we have grown our Gelbvieh operation into the largest in the west while also curating an elite set of Red Angus genetics. Loyalty to our customers goes far beyond sale day. We stand behind our bulls because this business is our passion. Both of us are actively involved in the Gelbvieh and Red Angus breeds. Samee was named the 2016 Gelbvieh Breeder of the year and Pete currently holds the position of Vice President for the Western States Red Angus Association in addition to being named the district Representative for the Washington Cattleman’s Association. Herd Health All bulls have passed a breeding soundness exam. All Gelbvieh bulls are BVD tested negative and parentage confirmed to their sire. Bulls are on a strong vaccination program including a full round of shots at semen testing. 18-month-old bulls will be Trich tested upon request. All are 840 EID tagged.
Bull Development Bulls were weaned on to Purina Precon 5 and then switched over to Purina Accuration Complete and grass hay. The bulls are fed in a rocky hillside pen to be fit, not fat! They are handled regularly with dogs and are easy to walk through. The coming two-year-old bulls were turned out this last summer and brought back in November 15 and placed on a grass hay and brewers grain diet until sale time. We will continue to feed the yearling bulls until April 1 but would prefer the older bulls make their way to their new homes.
end of the breeding season is September 1, unless you have previously made arrangements with Ledgerwood Gelbvieh; all claims must be made by that time. If a replacement bull is needed to finish the season, one will be delivered. We also provide a sight unseen guarantee on any purchase made absentee. If you don’t like him when we deliver him, you don’t own him.
Delivery We will deliver the bulls the first 250 miles free of charge. Beyond that distance, we appreciate you working with us to meet at central points.
How does the sale format work? The sale is operated at a private treaty opening day. All bulls are priced with a base value, which is listed on a white board. When bidding opens, bids can be placed silent auction style in $100 increments. We will close the sale one pen at a time. Any bull that does not receive a bid will be available for his base price after the sale.
Guarantees - Best in the business Unconditional first breeding season guarantee against death or injury. If something were to happen to your bull, Ledgerwood Gelbvieh or Rafter C Reds will provide you a sale credit.
