Greetings for the Midwest Aberdeen Association, 2017 saw a lot of changes for the Aberdeen breed. Primarily the name change to better reflect the type of cattle American Aberdeen Breeders are raising. 2018 will see more as the breed develops new programs and marketing to better promote the breed. The buzz word in the cattle industry is Moderation and Efficiency. This is one breed that can work to keep more money in your pocket in the form of feed expenses. A lot of commercial cattleman like to think their females are 1,200 pound females but don’t realize until hauling culls to the sale barn they are closer to the 1,600 and up range. The question to ask yourself if you have those types of females, are they weaning their body weight. Kristen and Jeff have worked hard to put together a great group of cattle that represent the Aberdeen Breed. If you’re not familiar with the breed be sure to give them a call or come to the sale to these cattle in person and talk with breeders. Another great opportunity later this year is having the American Aberdeen Junior National just up the road in Ames. Doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced showman or just starting out, great opportunity to be part of a national show and what better way to start then with a purchase at this sale. Be sure to join us February 11th at 2:30 for the Iowa Beef Expo American Aberdeen Sale in the north Annex. Sincerely, Curtis Ohlde -Midwest Aberdeen Association President Terms & Conditions: Terms of the sale will be cash or check payable immediately upon the conclusion of the sale and before animals will be released. Seller reserves the right to require a certified check before releasing any cattle. All animals are at the risk of the seller prior to their sale, the will become property of the buyer as soon as the auctioneer declared the animal sold. Insurance may be placed on the animal, and will be made available at the settlement desk. Animals will sell to the highest bidder. All challenges or disputes regarding bids will be settled by the auctioneer and his word will be final. All animals sell with registration papers from the American Aberdeen Association and will be transferred at the seller’s expense. Announcements made the day of the sale take precedence over any printed materials. All bred females stated as safe in calf have been examined by a veterinarian, all open heifers selling are guaranteed to be breeders. If a female appears to be a non-breeder within 6 months of the sale (or within 6 months of when she reaches breeding age), she may be returned to the seller at the buyer’s expense. The seller will then serve the right to prove the animal is a breeder within a six-month period, using any fullblood registered Aberdeen bull of his/her choice, either through AI or natural service. If successful, seller will return the animal to the buyer, at the buyer’s expense. Should the animal fail to breed, the seller at his option may either return the purchase price or replace the animal with an animal of equal value in full settlement of all claims. In no event shall the owner be responsible for more than the purchase price. Sellers guarantee does not apply if the animal should become a nonbreeder due to negligence of the buyer from improper management or hormonal or surgical procedures. No guarantees will be given that the female will have a life calf, nor will she produce eggs for transplant. All bulls over 14 months of age are semen tested. No guarantee is given that semen will freeze. All bull calves under 14 months of age are guaranteed to pass a test after 14 months of age. Should the animals fail to pass the semen test, the seller at his option may either return the buyers purchase price or replace the bull with another of equal value in full settlement of all claims. All persons who attend this sale do so at their own risk, the sale manager, nor the auctioneer assume no liability for accidents that may occur. The sale manager, nor auctioneer assumes no liability for the loss of livestock due to theft, mysterious disappearance, sickness, improper handling or an Act of God. They are not responsible for the failure of any guarantees of the seller or buyer. The sale manager and auctioneer act only as the medium between the buyer and seller. All legal action on animals shall be between the buyer and seller. The above terms and conditions shall constitute a contract between the buyer and sell for the animal sold. Mail or wire bids must be in in the hands of the sale manager or auctioneer prior to the start of the sale and will be handled in strict confidence. No warranties are express or implied.
