OPEN HOUSE & VIEWING OF THE BULLS

Bulls will be penned in the barn for viewing on April 16th from 11am –all afternoon, at the ranch 6 miles south of Stegall, Nebraska. A meal & refreshments will be available for anyone who wants to visit & look over the lots. Contact us if you need to make arrangements to view the bulls before the 16th. Videos, pedigrees, & photos will be available online at staircasebulls.com & dvauction.com.

SALE FORMAT

The sale will be held as an online timed auction on www.dvauction.com, beginning April 11th at 8:00am(MDT) & closing April 16th at 6:00pm(MDT).

BIDDER REGISTRATION

All buyers must register with DVAuction.com at least one day prior to the sale closing day to bid. High speed internet access is necessary to bid on DVAuction. If you do not have access to high speed internet or need assistance with bidding, please contact one of our representatives. High speed internet will be available at the sale location.

SALE TERMS

The terms of the sale are cash or check only, made payable to Staircase Charolais & Red Angus. The right & possession of the bulls shall not pass until settlement has been made.

HEALTH & PAPERS

All sale bulls have been vaccinated with Vista 5 VL5, Fusogard, & Wart Vaccine, & have passed a Breeding Soundness Exam. Health papers will be provided for interstate transactions. Registration papers will be furnished upon request.

GUARANTEE

All bulls are guaranteed for the first breeding season; if a bull is injured in such a way that makes him incapable of breeding, he will be replaced or a credit minus salvage value will be issued for our next sale. Negligence/ mistreatment will void the guarantee. A veterinary inspection must be provided for all claims. Under no circumstances will a cash refund be available. Claims must be made by September 1st, 2026.

DELIVERY

Free delivery within 250 miles. Deliveries will begin directly after the 16th. $100/bull discount if you haul your own bull within one week after the sale. Delivery beyond 250 miles will be at buyers cost.

All persons visiting Staircase Charolais & Red Angus premises do so at their own risk. Staircase Charolais & Red Angus owners, staff, & hosts assume no responsibility for any property loss or accidents that may occur.

BULL DEVELOPMENT

Our bulls are developed slow & steady on a high roughage ration. We don’t push our bulls on feed, we want them to be able to maintain their condition & stay structurally sound so they are ready to go to work & hold up for years to come. The BW & WW listed for each individual bull is their Actual weight, not Adjusted. The Final Weight is the bull’s weight adjusted to what he is expected to weigh on sale day, based on his ADG.

DISPOSITION SCORE

We walk through our bulls every day to gentle their disposition & ease of handling. Although some of our bulls will allow you to touch them, we don’t make them into pets as we want them to remain respectful when being handled.

We score our bulls’ disposition on a 5 star scale as follows:

5 star: Very Gentle

4 star: Gentle

3 star: Average

2 star: Nervous

1 star: Flighty

Please note we do not recommend buying a 1-2 star bull by himself, especially if the delivery location is a long distance from Staircase.

CALVING EASE SCORE

Our bulls’ Calving Ease is scored on a 5 star scale as follows:

5 star: Heifers

4 star: Large Framed Heifers, Young Cows

3 star: Young Cows, Mature Cows

2 star: Mature Cows

1 star: Large Framed Mature Cows

GENOMIC TESTING

All bulls have been GGP (100k) tested to improve the accuracy of their EPDs. All Charolais bulls are PA Free by pedigree, or will be PA tested before sale. A supplement sheet will be provided to show if there are any PA Carriers.

DIRECTIONS

13 miles west of Scottsbluff, NE on Hwy 92, then 6 miles south on Stegall Rd, then west just off the highway.

HOW DOES DVAUCTION, ONLINE AUCTION WORK?

Bidders will be able to preview all lots online with complete information, including pedigree, EPDs & videos for several days before the sale. In that time, bidders can leave a maximum bid on dvauction.com, or they can bid incrementally. The auction will be held “horse race style”. All lots will close at the same time. If a bid is placed within 5 minutes of the closing time, closing times for all lots will remain open for bidding for another 5 minutes after that bid. This continues until no more bids are placed on any lot.

Welcome to the Staircase Charolais & Red Angus 2026 Bull Sale!

What a great year 2025 was to be in the cattle business! It was awesome to see our friends and customers get record high prices for quality calves and be rewarded for all the work they put into their operations. It’s an exciting time to say the least.

Our 2026 offering is an impressive & solid set of yearling bulls that are ready to go out & go to work! They are bred to be practical for the commercial cattleman, with balanced traits, functionality, consistency, disposition, efficiency, and quality.

We don’t chase fads, we chase proven genetics that work. We like to spend time visiting other seedstock operations before we purchase any potential herd sires, so that we can see in person if their genetics are a good fit to use in our own herd. And it’s always enjoyable getting to know new people in the cattle business and learning about their operations!

Our bulls are grown out slow on a high roughage ration, targeting 2.5 – 3.0 lb/day gain. We don’t push them on feed so they can maintain their condition & soundness when they go to work & hold up for years to come.

Our catalog is organized by sire group, with Charolais Lots 1-33 and Red Angus Lots 34-64. We like to group them this way so you can see each sire’s highlights and what his sons have to offer.

Oaklee is without a doubt our top Charolais Herd Sire. He is a proven sire who offers not only growth but an exceptionally well-rounded set of carcass EPDs. He consistently passes all of these traits on to his sons, who will sire calves that can truly smash a scale. We have seen the proof over and over again in our commercial calves sired by his sons, & those of many of our customers. At 9 years of age, we plan to turn Oaklee on cows natural service again this spring, as well as continuing to use him in our A.I. & E.T. programs. Lots 1 & 2 are flush mates sired by Oaklee & our 8849 donor co-owned with Fink Beef Genetics (a lot more progeny coming from this great cow in the future). Lots 3-6 are another set of flush brothers out of one of our own top females, Cross Ledger 596, a cow that hails from our strongest cow line.

Cracker Jack is another bull that originated from Eggleston Charolais. We used him A.I. on mostly first calf heifers and were very impressed. He offered great calving ease and an impressive spread from birth to weaning, especially on the first calf heifers. The Cracker Jack sons are a very high quality set of bulls, with an excellent & consistent balance of traits across the board. We will continue to use Cracker Jack in our A.I. program again this spring.

We first used Craftsman as an AI sire on a large group of commercial heifers 11 years ago & we still have many daughters in the herd that are top producers. We purchased CMK Life is Good 3222 in 2024 from Milk Creek Red Angus. He is an exceptionally thick, solid built bull with a gentle disposition. With top 26% ProS, 42% HB, 23% GM, 5% CE, 15% ADG, 4% HPG, & 19% MB, he brings plenty to the table. His first calf crop all calved easily with low birth weights, & his sons and daughters display the same wide-topped, solid build that he has.

Fusion is another dark cherry red sire that is extremely well-rounded in his traits. He is a high accuracy, proven sire with top 13% ProS, 21% HB, & 21% GM, he offers a nice balance of everything. We have used him on our AI program on commercial heifers for 2 years & we are very pleased with his calving ease & growth (most of his steer calves on first calf heifers weaned at an avg of just over 600 lbs), as well as the excellent phenotype on his daughters.
