A big thank you to all of the customers and consignors for making RedFest a great place to buy and sell Red Angus Cattle. This year we have 200+ Red Angus females. You have probably noticed that you are seeing more and more Red Angus cows in the Tri-State area.

People are discovering that Red Angus make great momma cows.

They are easy to work with, bring big calves, and breed back on time.

In many parts of the country Red Angus influenced cattle outsell all other cattle. The RedFest Bull Group works hard to bring the very best genetics and performance to the Tri-State area. — ANIMALS SELL IN CATALOG ORDER — FERTILITY/DISPOSITION GUARANTEE: We guarantee the fertility and disposition of every bull selling. All bulls sell with a breeding soundness exam (BSE) certificate. Each Bull is guaranteed to be a satisfactory breeder; assuming the buyer provides acceptable nutrition, health and management.

• If a bull proves to be a non-breeder, the buyer must contact the Seller on or before Oct. 31, 2021, to make a claim.

• RedFest reserves the right to request a statement from a veterinarian and/or the bull being returned to RedFest at the buyer’s expense.

• If proper claim is made, the buyer will be given full credit if the bull is returned, OR full credit minus salvage value if the bull was sold with the credit to be used in a future RedFest sale.

RedFest retains a 1/3 semen interest in all bulls selling.

We are selling 100% possession and 100% salvage or resale value. This gives RedFest the option to collect, use and market semen from the bull and does not restrict the buyer from doing the same.

HOUSING BULLS: Housing and Feeding up to July 1st for a Bull purchased at RedFest has been arranged at a $3.50 per day charge. Buyers taking advantage of this offer will be required to purchase 6 months of Mortality Insurance. RedFest will pay ½ of the cost of the mortality insurance policy (up to 2% of the price of the bull).

— Terms and Conditions — TERMS: Terms of the sale are cash, check, or other terms agreed to in writing between seller, buyer, and sale manager payable immediately upon conclusion of the sale before animals will be moved. We reserve the right to require a certified check as settlement before releasing any cattle.

PURCHASER’S RISK: All animals are the owner’s risk prior to their sale and become property of the purchaser as soon as declared sold by the auctioneer.

BIDDING: Any disputes or challenges regarding bids or tie bids will be settled by the auctioneer and his decision will be final.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: A certificate of registry for each animal will be transferred to the buyer at the seller’s expense.

ANNOUNCMENTS: Any errors or changes in information contained in the catalog will be announced from the block and such announcements shall take precedence over the information contained herein.

HEALTH: All animals are eligible for interstate shipment. Interstate health papers prepared by an accredited veterinarian will be furnished on each animal sold.

LIABILITIES: All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk. The seller, auction facility, and RedFest assume no liability for any accidents that may occur. Neither does the seller, auction facility, or RedFest assume liability for the loss or injury to livestock due to theft, mysterious disappearance, sickness, improper handling or Act of God. It is to be clearly understood that RedFest and its representatives act only as a medium between the buyer and the seller. They are not responsible in any way for the failure on the part of the buyer and seller to live up to their obligations or for the truth of any warranties or representation, express or implied.

Neither does RedFest assume any financial obligations to collect or enforce collection of monies between parties. Any legal action, that may in exceptional cases be taken, must be between the buyer and the seller. This catalog has been prepared by RedFest from pedigrees and information supplied by sources deemed reliable, however, RedFest will in no way guarantee the pedigree, percentages of the animals selling, or data included in this catalog.

Any exceptions taken are between the buyer and the seller.

TRUCKING: Trucking can be arranged to coordinate loads for the least possible cost. If you know you’ll need trucking, please contact the seller to coordinate trucking.

CONTRACT: The above terms and conditions of sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller of each animal and shall be equally binding upon both. Each sale or resale of an animal constitutes a separate transaction.

Bull Mortality Insurance Liberty Mutual Equine & Livestock Insurance Representative:

Jim Gies 970-590-0500 RedFest bull breeders are offering to pay for half of a 6-Month Term Mortality Insurance Policy.

This policy covers death as a result of all natural causes including accident, sickness or disease, or euthanasia if recommended by your veterinarian.

This policy does not cover Fertility Insurance.

The premium is 4% of the purchase price of the bull.

The minimum policy premium is $100.

E.g. a $2,000 bull x 4% = $80, but $100 is the minimum premium, so Buyer pays $50 and seller pays $50.

E.g. a $3000 bull x 4% = $120 premium, Buyer pays $60 and Seller pays $60.

E.g. a $4,000 bull x 4% = $160 premium, Buyer pays $80 and Seller pays $80.

Docility Docility is one of the most important traits in cattle! Docility is known as a convenience trait, but docility is absolutely an economic trait as well.

Feedlots have found a correlation between docility and improved feed efficiency and rate of gain. Calmer cattle are not startled away from the bunk, and will spend more time efficiently processing feed into meat. Cattle that are easily upset are more likely to go off feed, get sick, and slow down their growth.

Nervous cattle can be dangerous; they are more likely to injure themselves as well as the people working them. Injuries to people, cattle, and equipment can take the profit right out of an operation.

Some ranchers believe that a more aggressive bull will be a more aggressive breeder. This appears to be opposite. Some aggressive bulls are constantly fighting when they should be breeding. A fighter bull will likely be less effective at breeding cows and will definitely make other bulls less effective. We have seen no correlation between docility of a bull and its desire to make the rounds checking the cows for heats.

Masculinity A bull should have a Square Bull Head. A long cow head, or steer head on a bull is an indication of lack of testosterone, just as a cow or steer lacks testosterone. Lack of testosterone is an indicator of poor fertility. A bull with more testosterone, will have more libido, and will service more cows. A very fertile bull has the ability to pass fertility traits to his daughters in your herd.

BULL LONGEVITY One of the biggest things that lead to unsound bulls is their ability to walk. The longevity of your bull is directly affected by the correctness and the structure of his feet and legs. To get your cows bred requires a bull to walk the pastures, steadily, to find the cows in heat, and even a slight foot problem can slow them down. In other words, bad feet in bulls will lead to reduced breeding activity.

Pastern Angle Low heel or too much angle equates into longer toes, more lameness, and early culling.

Straight Legs Cattle have been bred to gain weight rapidly. Cattle that are Bow-legged, hock-legged, knock kneed, and toeing in or out do not correctly transfer the weight straight down to the ground. This problem causes improper claw and foot growth. An imbalanced bull is much more likely to have a shorter life.

Hoof Formation Long, curled, and scissor toes are a major reason for culling. Long and curled claws will distribute weight unevenly and result in lameness. It is extremely important not to bring this into your herd with a bull, i.e. your replacement heifers could inherit this weak trait.

Rear Leg Correctness A bull that is correctly made in the rear legs is much more athletic and can cover more cows. Post legged and sickle hock cattle are more likely to injure themselves mounting and dismounting. They tend to be clumsier cattle, more likely to get injured on ice, mud and rough pastureland.
