Springtime. Well, that sure came fast, and we are already well into 2026 at the Nebraska Angus Association. Member production sales have been in full swing, with a sale nearly every day throughout February and March. Sales have been trending upward with record highs, and producers are earning top dollar for Angus genetics. Hard work is paying off, and I hope that continues for all our cattle producers.
In January, I had the opportunity to represent the Nebraska Angus Association at the National Western Stock Show in Denver. The weather was phenomenal this year, and the new facility for the cattle shows and breed association gatherings made for a great experience. It feels like a completely different place compared to six years ago, but the updates are impressive and tie into the stockyards very well. Nebraska was represented strongly this year, and we hope even more breeders will participate next year at this outstanding venue. You can find results from the NWSS on page 28.
Next up for the Association is the Cattlemen’s Classic in Kearney. By the time you receive this issue, the event will either be underway or just wrapping up. Angus breeders from across the state will be exhibiting at this 35th annual event. We encourage you to check out the sale and results afterward on our Facebook page or on the Cattlemen’s Classic website.
Summer will be here before we know it, and planning for Association events is already underway. The annual Nebraska Angus Tour is currently in the works. The exact location, date, and additional details will be announced soon. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page and the annual directory in July for more information.
Also happening this summer is our heifer raffle for youth scholarships. This program has been very successful from the start, and we hope to keep it going strong. If you are interested in donating a heifer, please reach out to any member of the Nebraska Angus Board of Directors, Will Harsh with the American Angus Association, or myself. Donating is a great way to promote your operation and Angus genetics. The heifer will be drawn for during the Nebraska Angus Tour.
A busy year is already in full swing, and I’m sure this one will go by even faster than the last. I hope each and every one of you has a safe and prosperous spring, and I look forward to seeing you at events throughout the year. As always, please let the Association office or Board of Directors know if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Margo Lehn NAA, Secretary/Manager

AMERICAN ANGUS ASS. BOARD OF DIRECTORS
By: Danny Poss, AAA Board Member
Dear Nebraska Angus Members,
As I write this update, winter has treated us kindly across much of the state. Warmerthan-normal temperatures, very little snow to push, and favorable calving conditions have made for a smoother start to the season. After a few challenging years of weather extremes, it’s been a welcome change and one we’re grateful for.
I’d like to extend congratulations to Bill Rishel on his recent induction into the Saddle & Sirloin Club. Bill has left an incredible and lasting mark on Nebraska Angus through his commitment to education and his leadership in advancing the Angus breed. His early influence in strengthening genetics that helped shape today’s Certified Angus Beef program has benefited not only our state, but the entire beef industry. We appreciate his years of dedication and the legacy he has built.
As you read this issue, I encourage you to consider using the tools available through the American Angus Association to help add value to your operation and strengthen your genetics. It starts with investing in a registered Angus bull. If improving the genetics in your cowherd is your goal, GeneMax Advantage can help you evaluate and mate females with confidence and purpose. The Angus Genetic Merit Scorecard helps document your progress and ensures you’re getting paid for the genetic investment you’ve made. And if you sell feeder calves, Angus Link is a great way to capture more of the premiums paid for high-quality Angus genetics, while continuing to support demand for Certified Angus Beef. When these tools are used together, they take the guesswork out of decisions and help put more dollars back into your operation.
Looking ahead, national cow inventory numbers continue to decline. With tighter supplies, we expect the strong market for quality, high-priced angus feeder calves to continue. Producers who focus on documented genetics and added value will be well positioned to capitalize on these opportunities.
Thank you for the work you do every day to represent Nebraska Angus with integrity and excellence. It’s an honor to serve you at the national level and to advocate for our state’s cattlemen.
Warm regards,
Danny Poss AAA Board Member (308) 571-0417

PRESIDENT SPEAKS
By: Adam Sellman, NAA President
Hello from western Nebraska and Happy New Year!
It continues to be a beautiful calm winter with nice temperatures. Getting into the spring bull sale season and calving makes for a fun time of year. The bull sales have gotten off to a great start and it is a great time to add Nebraska Angus genetics across this great country.
In December, Bailey and I attended the winter classic banquet in Kearney. We enjoyed seeing a great crowd of Angus breeders. I encourage all juniors to take advantage of the scholarships available, there are many great opportunities for the youth both in the Nebraska and American Junior Angus Association. Don't forget to mark your calendars on May 29-31 for the State Junior Show in Albion, NE.
A round of applause to all the exhibitors who traveled to Cattleman's Congress and the National Western Stock Show in January. We were very proud how well Nebraska breeders showcased their livestock and represented our state, just another reminder how high our standards are in Nebraska.
It has been a fun time watching Angus genetics reach premium levels. Bred cows and replacement heifers at record levels. Fat cattle have remained steady with boxed beef continuing to move as consumers enjoy CAB steaks and hamburgers.
I encourage everyone to watch for upcoming information about the Nebraska Angus Tour this fall. The tour is a great time to get acquainted with people all over the state and see some good cattle and new country.
With that I hope everyone has a safe calving season, profitable sale season and a good early spring. Hope to see you down the road.
Sincerely,
Adam Sellman

Her family includes her parents, Brian and Tiffany Stoller, and her older sister, Reagan Cavanaugh, along with Reagan’s husband, Dennis. Mckinley has been around Angus cattle her entire life, and she truly believes it’s the best breed out there. When asked what inspired her to become the next Nebraska Angus Queen, she replied, “I’ve always wanted to be the Angus Queen. I grew up watching my sister serve and saw all the amazing opportunities she had. She was the Nebraska Angus Queen, and I loved helping her at shows. When I was the Nebraska Angus Princess, I got to see Addi Crouse be such a great role model. That made me want to become a role model for other girls someday as the Nebraska Angus Queen.”

I’ve been a member of the Nebraska Junior Angus Association for eight years.” When asked about her history in the Angus business and how she got started, she said, “My dad started Bear Mountain Angus as a 4-H project when he was younger. It’s also a big leadership role, so don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and meet new people. I’m still working on being more outgoing myself.”
Mckinley has set future goals for herself, including running for the National Junior Angus Board of Directors and earning a green coat. From being in the Ag industry, I have chosen to continue my education studying Ag Business. I look forward to learning more about the industry and giving back to the community. Once I have finished my college education, I plan to come back to Sellman Ranch and help my family in all ways possible. I would also love to get into coaching volleyball and encourage girls to love the sport as I have.
Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to help me in my future education. I really appreciate everything the Nebraska Angus Association does for our communities. I'm extremely excited to see what's in store for me in the next couple years!
